Dowry is not the main issue. That one na akamu case. The problem begins with demands of every tom, manliness and harry that happens to be related or associated with the bride. Umuada, number one culprit  Also, in some communities, u are expected to buy one big box (usually echolac) and fill that up to the brim with hollandis for the mother in law or the bride, whichever. Funny thing is that the mother in law has a rite to reject ur box if she thinks it is not rich enuff  or not to fill to the brim.
