IBB was only following the example established by Gowon whom Awolowo supported and empowered to destroy Nigeria and enshrine North-dominated military dictatorship. Localemperor: He took power in 1985 and promised to return to civilian government in 1990, the date was changed to 1992 and subsequently 1993. The 1993 election was annulled to keep him in office. And Orji is telling me that the GENERAL has no intention either through any means whatsoever to stay longer in office. IBB was power hungry and had no intention to handover even before the June 12 saga. |

You are entitled to console yourself with excuses. The development and prosperity of a nation has nothing to do with population. If that's the case ?Liberia, Ivory Coast and so many countries in West Africa that have similar small population like Switzerland would have become as developed as that country. United Arab Emirates (UAE) has two of the airlines( Emirate and Ethihad) among the World top 10 airlines. Not only does Nigeria not have any airline of reputed or in top 100, our once glorious Nigerian Airways established almost 30 years before Emirate is dead and forgotten - no thanks to mediocrity-driven mismanagement. My question: would you a attribute the above to factor of population? Rossinky: EXCUSE ME WHILE I DO A BIG FAT YAWN TO THIS...

By the way, do any of you realise that UAE has a population of 9.6 million people, which amounts to ONE QUARTER the population of Lagos, yet has THREE TIMES Nigeria's oil reserves, and exports TWO AND HALF TIMES MORE BARRELS PER DAY than Nigeria, a developing country of 200 million people?

Please can you list for us the unique development models that SW states have introduced in the last twenty years that has made the region developmental outliers and economic success worthy of emulation by other states - particularly Igbo states? “Restructure the country so that even if poor leadership is at the centre, it does not frustrate the constituent parts of the country. Each part will grow at its own rate" This is the nucleus of restructuring. ogododo: Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has kicked against the idea of engaging the Chinese people in the infrastructural development of Nigeria.
Duke stated this on Saturday at a 60th Independence Day Celebration Symposium co-organised by the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the Nehemiah Leadership Institute.
The Federal Government is currently engaging the Chinese Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation to develop various infrastructural projects across the country.
Reacting to the development, Duke said, “As long as we continue to outsource our development, we will never gain the confidence to develop our nation. It has to be developed by ourselves. We can talk of rail lines, we are bringing the Chinese to develop the world for us, well, you are outsourcing.
“We need to take it head-on, be prepared to make the mistakes, build those rail lines, build the things that you required.”
“We talk more of investment in infrastructure than skills and that ought not to be and the skills also should involve technology.”
Duke, who was governor between 1999 and 2007, stress the need to restructure Nigeria so that the failure at the centre does not affect the development of the sub-nationals.
[ At the symposium with the theme, ‘Where will Nigeria be in 2060?’, Duke said, “We had a faulty start from 1950. We started with sectional leadership.”
“Restructure the country so that even if poor leadership is at the centre, it does not frustrate the constituent parts of the country. Each part will grow at its own rate.
“As a nation, all the resources and ingredients to make Nigeria one of the greatest nations on earth are there but the chef is missing,” he noted.

Awesome if that's the reasonon! supereagle: Sadly not many people know the true story behind the lighting up of the Burj Khalifa by UAE to celebrate Nigeria’s independence.
A few months ago the UAE suspended granting visas to Nigeria (shortly after the arrest of Hushpuppi and co during Covid lockdowns.)
For the sake of one criminal and a few miscreants the UAE made that move unilaterally to discriminate against all Nigerians without consulting with the Nigerian government or considering diplomatic impact. There were also reports of Nigerians being maltreated in the UAE.
After lockdowns ended and flight resumed, the UAE reopened its borders to other countries but maintained the visa ban on Nigerians and said nothing about the maltreatment of Nigerians in the UAE during the covid lockdown period.
The Nigerian government (much to my surprise) refused to take that insult sitting down. The typically redundant government swung into action and issued an immediate ban on all Emirates flight from Nigeria (which happens to be the 3rd biggest revenue stream for Emirates airlines)
From the 23rd of September the Nigerian government refused to allow any Emirates plane touch Nigerian soil and banned flights from many other country’s airlines who do not regard Nigerians with thesame courtesy that we regard them.
7 days later, the UAE reversed the Visa ban and yesterday announced that they will now allow Nigerians visa access to UAE in the hopes that Nigeria restores Emirates flights. The lighting of Burj Khlaifa was a symbol of goodwill to appease Nigeria.
Im not often proud of the Nigerian government. But on this one, I say kudos. That’s the story behind the lighting of the Burj Khalifa.
Happy Independence Nigeria. #CPD |

Average Yoruba and selective amnesia. Always displaying a false narrative of history. As much as I am not a fan of Zik, he did it go behind Awo or betrayed him to form any government with the same North. It was your double-faced Awolowo that was responsible for the collapse of NCNC and Action Group(AG) attempt to form a coalition for the post-independent civilian government. He double-dealed by sending two different delegations to Zik and Ahmadu Bello, simultaneously, to discuss the possibility of coalition. When Zik found out through a call by Ahmadu Bello during the visit of AG's delegation to Eastern Nigeria, it foreclosed any chance of Zik - Awo political alliance. Remember once(1951 Western Election) beaten, twice shy. Ok let me agree with you that Zik was wrong for rejecting Awolowo's offer of partnership and forming the post-independent government with the North, did Awolowo not repeat the same 1960 mistake of Zik in 1967 by joining Gowon's dictatorship and aligning with the North to fight against the Igbos in Nigeria-Biafra War. In fact, Awo's mistake was worse and more grievous. Zik participated in a civilian democracy under a federal system where true federalism was adhered. Your anti-military Awolowo participated in a military dictatorship birthed and sustained in blood of innocent Nigerians( babies, children, pregnant women, old men) under a unitary system where the resources of the region's were hijack by the military administration. You're a typical Yoruba who deploys double standard of morality to judge Awolowo and Zik. You lampoon Zik for aligning with the North in 1960 but ignore Awo's alignment or second-fiddleship in 1967 with the North when he accepted the position of Finance Commisioner and Vice-Chairman of Federal Economic Council(FEC). Worse of all, when we spotlight Awo's similar action, you folks come with some "patriotic bullshit" behind his civil-war action. Deal with the truth: Both Zik and Awolowo were politically visionless and foolish. With all their education and exposure, they were outmoded and outwitted by the less educated Ahmadu Bello. The average Igbo can deal with this salient truth about Zik. It is the average Yoruba that has refused to face this reality about Awo. That's why they tirelessly engage in historical revisionism. apex0038: What else will you call that but is that you don't know record, if there is anything betrayal is majority of Easterners, Awo saw in 1950s that Hausas are not ready for independence or good enough to stay together with but Zik betrayed him by go behind and from government with the same North, why Biafra can not succeed is betrayal here and there Massob, ipob,Igbo renewal, pfrb, and so on .Many Yoruba resigned in Loyalty to their Oga,from Oyinlola 2xe,Bolaji Abdullahi 2xe,Muiz banire and so on,many Yoruba Governors were loyal to their predecessors even after gaining power. Trash! AttorneyTee: The beautiful Enugu state was the state I was posted to for my law school and as part of the Curriculum in the law school we were posted to a law firm so as to gain practical experience of things we were being taught in school. I was posted to Onyi Akpangbo and associates, a firm in Enugu city for my chambers attachment.
One of my trips to the law firm coincided with the Biafra day, I saw how shops were closed and radio presenters were extolling the virtues of Ojukwu and Nnamdi Kanu, comparing them to Moses and Joshua in the Bible.
Upon getting to the law firm, I asked my principal what he thinks about the Biafra war and Nnamdi Kanu’s clamor for secession. To my surprise, he told me that he actually participated actively in the Biafra war and decided to share his experience with me.
He told me that his parent gave birth to three male children and he was the last born. That at the beginning of the war his brothers were enlisted in the Baifran Army however due to the fact that he was the last born and very young at the time , his mum insisted that he would not join the Baifran Army. He said fighting in the war back then was a thing of pride and he didn’t want to be seen as a coward. So he strategized a way of joining the Army, and the strategy was for him to enter the Army truck coming to carrying people forcefully enlisted into the Baifran Army.
He successfully executed the plan and joined the army without the knowledge and approval of his mother or elder brothers. He was one of the best during Army recruit training, having this zest and readiness for war. He was posted to the war frontline, and during the war he had to share a gun with someone. He will shoot and then hand the gun over to the person he was sharing with, to try his luck on killing at least “one Nigerian soldier”. It was a traumatic experience and after the first few days he was already low on morale, coupled with the fact that they were basically scavenging for food.
His proudest moment while participating in the war was when they killed over 20 soldiers of the Nigerian Army and made them retreat, he and the other soldiers got a handshake from Ojukwu and praises on the radio. However, because his brothers were holding top positions in the army they were able to do an extensive search and found him. He was immediately taken back to his mum. As he regaled me with the woes of the war, he brought out a Biafran shilling and British shilling, and said that this was the means of exchange during the war.
He ended on the note that Igbos clamoring for violent secession were not born during the war and that nobody who fully participated in the war will want a reoccurrence. He further enjoined the Igbos to focus more on developing their region, that way they won’t depend on the Federal government for anything. |

You are drunkenly ahistorical and suffer from cognitive dissonance. How did Zik partner with North to remove the secession clause. Kapilta: Op, you are very funny. Even a todler knows the hatred azikiwe bred in his kinsmen and it all started when Awolowo told him to go back to his home state to contest for the seat of the House of rep he intended contesting for in Lagos. He returned back from abroad and saw yorubaland already developed and his greedy brain couldn't think of anything else than how to invade it.
It was on this sentiment that he partner with the north to remove the secession clause, the north have no problem about the clause because they don't even knows what secession clause meant, buh zik had to meet with Tafawa and Sardauna to make sure they suport his stance, Awolowo put secession clause because Yorubaland was all developed and then fear the norths have more number, they might override everyone and take over our already developed land, even though the thing affect our land as it really brought about underdevelopment because they all invaded the land, they came en masse seeking greener pasture buh at the end too, i'm glad Zik hatred consumed him and his kinsmen as about 3 million of them was wasted and as at today, they need the clause more than anyone in the entity.
Azikiwe presented the entire south to the north on a platter of gold since then cuz before then the north always fear the south as they are more educated and developed. Even Balewa was tired of Zik hatred and betrayal that he called the new country Nigeria a mistake. It was actually that his romance that rode on to become what he became and made sure Awo became the only premier to ever be jailed till God of Oduduwa answers by fire which led Igbos to jubilate and celebrate the killing of Bello and others in the 66 coup.
Isn't God of yorubaland so amazing?
Anyway, we've suffered enough in the hands of all the invaders and intruders and it's time to chase them all from our land, time to take back our fatherland from them all, our cities had potentials before they greedily invaded it. Think fatherland (Oduduwa) all the time. |
