donborg: you are just beating about the bush by being clever by half. if hassan katsina seceded, it will be an affront on the authority of the federal govt led by aguiyi ironsi who will have no choice but to quell the secessionists just like he did to adaka boro and his niger delta republic. back to ur question abt zik, the act of independence as signed by awolowo, zik and ahmadu bello strictly stipulated that d secession of any of the 3 regions was an act of treason and an act of war(this was d main reason zik neva supported biafra). ojukwu clearly knew what he was going to get when he seceeded but as a warmonger he thought it better to sacrifice millions of lives instead of playing by the rules of the game. This is the same thing I have been trying to say. Ojukwu waking up one morning to declare independence was treason, and that act was a declaration of war. Dragged my people for 30 months in a war that obviously they were not prepared for, and oblivious of the dire consequences of yhat foolish act. And instead of the coward to surrender months before to end the suffering of the people, he let that thing drag on, now see the mess. That said, the sad reality of this topic is that Nigeria cannot split, as there is no provision for that in the constitution, the only way to split is war, and that is not an option because of Syria tragedy. And as long as Britain lives, they will never assent to a U.N. backed referendum, because they will rather work with the certain, or status quo, than try out an experiment into uncertainty. So the reality is that this country will remain the same. We just have to work out how we can live together |

OjukwuWarBird: When Nigeria was created, were the ethnic nations consulted.?
Some of you guys need to have your heads checked again
You don't force unity You are the one who needs to reason properly. Luggard is absolved from all responsibility of Nigeria when the founding fathers of Nigeria had the chance to split Nigeria just before independence. But since Azikwe and co agreed that it will be in our best interest to remain together instead of splitting, thus having no secession clause and referendum clause in our constitution, how is that now Luggards fault? You people will just be reasoning based on sentiment instead of looking at this subject matter dispassionately |

pchukwudi: Go and research your history, kid. The coup that brought Gowon to power failed totally in the Eastern region, so Ojukwu and the entire Eastern region never recognized Gowon (a junior soldier) as head of state prior to the war.
So when Nigeria systematically cleansed Eastern soldiers in both North and West, massacred tens of thousands of Eastern civilians in the North, and still had the guts to mess up the Aburi accord and other peace effort, it became morally and politically mandatory for Ojukwu and the Eastern region to declare independence, since it was clear that the Federal government was against the interest and security of the people of the Eastern region. Oga listen..... There is no such thing as politically and morally mandatory on this matter. Look at this thing without sentiment Nigeria is a sovereign entity, and you don't just wake up to divide it as you wish without agreement and due process. The fact remains that with out sentiment, declaring independence was declaration of war, Period. Where in this world has such thing happened without war? |
Politics › Re: Nigeria Will Never Break Up: Here Is Why by Ugosample(m): 6:18pm On Apr 19, 2017 |
pchukwudi: You are lying.
Ojukwu did not declare the civil war. Gowon did. Ojukwu merely declared the independent state of Biafra - and the West was NOT part of the terriotry.
The Biafran army that moved towards Lagos was led by a Yoruba man, and Ojukwu's aim was to liberate the West from nothern domination. He thought you guys would stand up for yourselves in the West the way he was doing in the East. But obviously he over-estimated your folks. So Ojukwu just took one part of the country out, and that is not declaration of war Don't you know that anywhere in the world, when this is done, it is declaration of war? How can you just wake up one morning and just take out one part of the country out of the map Use your common sense na No president will tolerate that at all. |

codemaniacs: 99% of southern Nigerians are extremely hardworking, independent, resilient and work towards been successful... So there is a very high possibility in the "constituent units" been better off and very successful as long as rebel groups are not sponsored by foreigners to cause mayhem like the case of Ojukwu and Ironsi been used to destroy regionalism(I believe the civil war was orchestrated by foreigners because the north wanted to separate during that time and the "foreigners" knew if the resources was left with southern Nigeria there was a possibility of there been a very powerful African country)..
Unlike 1966/1967 where the SE leaders wanted to rule SW(even Biafran army targeted the SW)... Present day Igbos(not igbo politicians) are more concerned about developing the SE. If Ojukwu had focused on developing the SE and not on trying to conquer other tribes then there would have never been a civil war (that's why I suspect that some northern leaders, Ojukwu and other SE leaders were cajoled into starting a war with the same north by foreigners then try to drag the SW into the war). And you think those from the north are not hard working? There are millions of farmers in the north, our silos and good basin is up there If that route is cut off for just two weeks, we in the south would be in serious trouble. The thing is that, as the OP said, we are interdependent and we need each other. It will be big folly to believe that the north is completely useless or "parasitic" as some people call it. If that is the case, how much does the SE contribute to the national coffers that they are collecting money from the proceeds of oil too. Judging by that definition, it means that the SE is parasitic too. What of the SW states minus Lagos? The only solution is for us to work out our differences, and know that more Unite us than separate us. |

All these my people shouting that the country should disintegrate, what is the guarantee that any constituent unit will be better off if they leave,?
The constituent units of Nigeria will be worse off if the country sinks tomorrow Or do you think you just draw new borders and all will be fine?
Let's reason this thing na |

Freethought: Last year was a very rough year for me until september when I managed to get a security job( gateman as the kids do call me) in one primary school in lagos( I had to take the job because iv been jobless for 3years after I graduated), but each time I sit at that gate opening and closing for pupils, parent and teachers , I always felt a part of me is being wasted, so I decided that I must always send at least two applications per day( just like I hav bn doing since I graduated).
As fate will have it, I was called for an interview for a particular post I av always loved to occupy( an account officer), I prepared for the interview like I was preparing for my ICAN Diet Exam.
Well, to cut the whole story short, I received my employment letter yesterday with a very favourable working conditions except for not too fat salary( which I'm still quite comfortable with because its double my previous salary as a security man).
Please, Let us all learn to leave the comfort of our house when searching for job, don't stay idle, do anything until you finally get that dream job. I wish every other person looking for job good luck in their search for better jobs.
Lalasticlala, I just took few minutes to motivate the remaining unemployed people on nairaland.. Back to work before someone notice I'm on nairaland Congrats o But let me ask you tho Are you a chartered accountant? |

All I see on this thread are VERY insecure men. What makes you think the Husband will be a house boy The way i see it, they respect each other, and that's why the marriage is still going on To me, there is nothing wrong with the ideals she believes in, and only bush men with archaic mentality will be threatened by a woman like this 13 Likes 2 Shares |

Ndiofe: Dude, u sound like one of those people that went to lagos and dont visit ur village.
Marriage is not a bed of roses and inter-tribal marriage is not better, it comes with alot of complications.
In the kindred where i come from, i am yet to see an igbo man married to a yoruba woman, believe me i attend meeting. However, we do meet yoruba inlaws at wedding or funerals. It is always yoruba men married to igbo women.
Igbo men may date other tribe but always come up with excuse as u find in this article by the OP, i.e. my mother dont like you. Igbo men listen and take into consideration parental opinion in marriage. Ah no wonder.... I know your type... And that of your kindred Sorry boss, mine, and the Igbo families in our circle are not like that Lol @ travel to village too Not every Igbo "Kindred" is like yours, and I can bet that you are from Anambra too. the ones I know that behave that way are mostly anambra peeps. I'm not from there, so we behave differently; D And we have also come to the maturity that indeed, a mother's cultural background is as important as that if the dad, so from the names, to the offspring of such relationships speaking both languages, and even the man making effort to learn the woman's language and vice versa, there is minimal friction in the relationships. You people on the other hand, from what I have observed will do the opposite. Making excuses like cowards My mother does not like you Just imagine So, stick to what works for you guys, let we on the other side stick to what is working for us too. |

Ndiofe: I doubt that, becos we have families and we dont see yoruba wife. I tell u wat we see more, yoruba men (inlaw) married to an igbo lady. Igbo men married to yoruba women are very few. But on my own side of the family, plus parents friends plus associates, plus my years of growing up in Lagos, there are FAR more Igbo guys with Yoruba girls than vice versa. Even some Igbolecturers in SW are marriedto Yoruba women. the same may even happen to me sef, judging by my circles and all. The Wedding party (the movie) was made based on that observation. Come to Lagos and see for yourself |
Family › Re: The Dilemma Of Inter-tribal Marriage by Ugosample(m): 12:49am On Apr 19, 2017 |
Ndiofe: Definately not as much as Yoruba guys. This ones seem to have made igbo a criteria for marriage.
Many will be single waiting for igbo, this is confirmed, which igbo guy wait 4 yoruba? if i no see yoruba, i no go marry? Did you grow up in Lagos I bet not Because if you do, you will find out that Igbo man, Yoruba woman is more than vice versa. |

Ndiofe: There is wat we call uniformity,(u call it generalisation) one man grew a beard, in no time everybody starts wearing beard. It is called being in vogue or trend. Right now, igbo women is the thing for yorubas, it is in trend, u have to ask urself y? Particularly, since they are the only tribe doing this in the whole Nigeria. Y do they single out one tribe? Do You know a lot of Igbo guys marry Yoruba girls too it happens all the time lol. Does that mean Yoruba babes are the trend too? Many Igbo guys my age bracket who grew uo in Lagos are married to Yoruba baes So it's nothing special |

Ndiofe: Rwanda never happened in his twisted mind. Let us not even mention Biafra. In his mind Europe sold their brothers to African as slaves. Denial is the worst from of delusion.
White men will tell u that he has a slave fantasy, that is y he prefers black women, becos bleeping dem makes him feel powerful and dominating.(fetish) Yoruba men should tell us wat exactly is their case, becos we know dey hate igbos already. Point of correction tho that your last statement is a hasty generalisation that is not correct Some of them could be mumu sha But not all Yoruba people are like that tho. That's it. I grew up in a multicultural environment, so I'm talking based on that |
