Message me

Emmy2009:
Hello guys. Please I need help. And I will appreciate any answers I can get.
I'm a lawyer. Certified and trained in Nigeria for over 3 years now. I'm hoping to migrate to Canada and I'm prepping up to write the IELTS exams soon. I graduated with a 2.2 here in Nigeria in 2015 so I cant go for the full fledged masters because of that so I'm aiming for a diploma in something legal related in Canada and hopefully might upgrade to a masters in the future if I see the need to. I was wondering, hows it like migrating to Canada and practicing law there. MOST people I spoke to about the whole migrating thing adviced that's it's pretty difficult to get admission in a school in Canada if you dont go for a course which you already have a background on. So my questions are.
1. Is it easy to get a law practicing job or a job relating to the legal profession in general in Canada.
2. I'm not really a do or die lawyer so I dont mind having another profession after schooling there as long as it's a clean, professional and comfortable job. Because of this, is it reasonable to just forget the law thing and start thinking of something else if possible?
3. If 2 above is reasonable, what other options should I be opened to. The major point is to get a job in Canada, what sort of profession can someone easily get a job.
Thanks for the replies

Hello Ujeinijobog,

No worries. You can always renew your Passport in Canada so is your study permit. Go ahead to submit your passport for stamping. You can only renew your passport prior to 6 months to its expiration.

All the best

There's usually no need for a physical interview. As for the website, Google IRCC website for study permit.

Please help me with the website for study permit and when did you attend your interview before medical or after?

Hello all,

Please I'll appreciate if someone can help me with an answer. I just got my PPR and in the letter, ircc said they cannot issue visa for a date beyond the expiry of my passport. My passport will expire in April 2022 and this date will fall short of the one year I'll ordinarily be entitled to for my visa.

Please will the date on my passport will affect anything since it will expire before my program ends? On the contrary, is it a good idea to apply for a new one (considering the fact that I have to submit my passport to bad within 30 days)?
Also, if I don't apply for a new one, will it affect my status since the visa on my passport may not be up to a year?

Thank you.

Please for those who have sent their passport to Lagos, how do I get the consent form? And as a first time applicant, do I need to pay the processing fee at the VAC in Lagos (where I did my biometrics)?

Thank you!

Hello all

I got my passport request this morning.
I really want to thank everyone that has helped in answering my questions! You guys are awesome!

As for my profile, I am a first time applicant. I gained admission for fall 2020 but deferred to fall 2021.

My SOP was over a 100 pages (cause I included the evidence of all the facts I stated). It was also in my SOP that I attached and submitted the following documents:

1. A deed of gift showing that my dad transferred the house I'm residing in to me.

2. Proof of funds. (My mum was my sole sponsor and all I needed to show was my living expense cause I got full funding).

3. Study leave approval.

4. Evidence of the the awards I received in school.

5. Letter of employment.

6. My research proposal.

7. Previous travel history.

8. Medical documents corroborating my travel history.

9. Undergraduate research paper (I submitted this because of its relevance to my research).

10. Published articles (relevant to my research area).

11. CV.

12. Degree conferral certificate.

13. Copy of the various letters of appointments from organizations I'm currently volunteering in.

14. The contact of my assigned supervisor.

That's all I remember for now.
And yeah, I applied in May, medicals was in June, AIP in August, no BVL and passport request today.

Alright,thank you.

You do not need a letter of explanation. Just send a web form attaching the new letter of admission. This is exactly what happened to me. I deferred admission on the 18th of August, AIP dropped on the 19th. I sent a web form (google webform). You will fill the questionnaire on the webpage and attach your letter. A few days later you will get an acknowledgement from them that they have received your information

Hello everyone

I need some advice please.
I deferred my admission from fall 2020 to fall 2021 and I want to inform IRCC through a letter of explanation. My question are as follows:

1. How many pages should the LOE should be?

2. What I should include as the content of the LOE?

3. Is it necessary to include this as one of the actual reason I deferred i.e. the fact that I was interested in the PGWP and I deferred my admission when IRCC first made the rule that the time spent online will not count towards the eligibility for post graduation work permit. And by the time the two stage rule came in, it was too late to retract my admission because classes were full so I had to defer to fall 2021, the next session for my program.

Thank you.

Thank you!

My response is based on this link
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/prepare-arrival/study-permit-conditions.html

If their is a one year entry rule, then you should be fine. Hopefully, someone else can clarify the one year rule for you.

You don't have to talk about internet connection or complicate things. I recommend you say the truth. You deffered because CIC couldn't give processing time and because of the pandemic. You already deffered before you recieve AIP and your program start date is fall of every year. I really can't tell you what to do. But yeah, send me a PM. We'll call IRCC on Tuesday.

PPR means passport request.

Thanks again for your response. I will reach out now.

But please, it appears as though the content of what's in the link is for those who already have their study permit and are within Canada. Right?

Also, can someone help me confirm if the time period I have to enter Canada after my passport request and receiving my Visa is one year?

Thank you.

Thank you so much for your response.
But please, in view of your response, I will appreciate if you can help clarify some of my queries as follows:

1. You stated that if I get my SP approved this year, I'll have to start my program by spring and the new LOA will be rendered useless.
I thought I have a period of one year to enter into Canada when my Visa is approved? Does this then mean that even if I get the SP approved this year, the one year rule doesn't stand?
And even if the one year rule stands (or doesn't stand), will it be okay to wait to get the approval before sending in my new letter of admission?

2. Please what does PPR stand for?

3. Considering the regulation that you referred to, will it be okay to state in the LOE that I deferred because of poor internet connection and the fact that my program only run during fall semesters (which is actually the case)?

Lastly, I'll appreciate the three way call you suggested. Can I message you privately please?
I will also appreciate the link you spoke about.

Thank you once again for your time.

dommakavelli:
Okay, let's analyze the rules.

1. You are allowed to defer your study not later than the subsequent semester or 6 months after the semester you were supposed to begin. If you get SP approval this year, you have to start school by the spring semester. Then your deferred admission letter is technically useless.

2. I read somewhere on CIC website (regulations) that VO's are advised to proceed with applications if the admission letter expires but not later than the subsequent semester. For instance, if you applied with the fall 2020 admission letter and did not get PPR until the end of September 2020. The VO would not ask you for a new admission letter. They will issue your SP for the winter semester. Meaning you are allowed to defer your study until July 2021, I think.
Meanwhile, if you have a reason not to start until Fall 2021, You can always write a letter of explanation to CIC after getting your SP. For instance, if your program is only offered in fall semesters, I think that is a valid reason to get an exemption.

However, if your admission letter is fall 2020 and you did not get PPR until February 2021, VO will ask you for a new admission letter. So this means your Fall 2021 admission letter is good. I will share the link to this regulation when I have time.

3. If you submit a new admission letter now, I'm not sure how that would affect your SP application because it's a year deferral. Maybe it would only affect your SP issue date; I don't know.
4. You also need to think if CIC would call your school to confirm your admission. So, if you don't tell CIC, would that backfire? I don't know.

These are my personal opinion, but I'm happy to call IRCC for you on Tuesday. We'll do a three-way call, and we can find out the best thing to do without telling IRCC your info.

Goodluck

Hello everyone

Please I'll appreciate if someone can provide a response to my question.

I made a post last month saying that I deffered my admission to September 2021 and I was advised to wait for sometime. I just got the new letter of admission from my school but I'm skeptical about sending it via webform cause I don't know how it will affect my application (since I already received my AIP).

To my question, is now a good time to forward the new LOA via webform and if not, when is the best time for me to forward it?

Thank you.

Letter of deferral is fine provided that it covers relevant information about the program start date, duration, tuition fees, DLI number of the school etc. However, I would best suggest you chill until the end of the month before sending the updated letter to IRCC.

Alright, thank you so much for your response Frankrobbn1.
But a quick one please. I won't be getting my new letter of admission until next year. As such, will it be okay to send a letter of defferal (which is different from the LOA) to IRCC?

Thank you!

Why the rush? Please exercise a little more patience before sending the new LOA to IRCC. Give it end of this month, if you don't receive any update on your application, you may proceed with it.

Hello everyone

Please I will appreciate if someone can help answer my question.

I deferred my admission to next year fall. I contacted my school and I was told that a new letter of admission will be issued to me next spring(when admission letters will be issued to new admits). However, they said they are willing to issue a new me an official letter of defferal if I need one.

Now, to my question. Can I send the letter of defferal to IRCC via webform (cause I already got my AIP) or I should chill till they issue the new admission letter to me next year and then send the letter next year?

Hello everyone

Before the two step visa process came up, I deffered my admission to fall 2021 for a thesis based masters. My faculty initiated the deferral process on my behalf and haven't gotten back to me yet on my admission and scholarship status.
Now, on the one hand, I don't know if it's a good idea to see if I can recall my decision especially because all the classes I wanted to register for are already full. In addition, the deadline for registration of courses is 1st of August which is just few days away.

On the other hand, I don't know if I can take my thesis first but then again, I strongly feel like I'll be taken to be indecisive by my department (which isn't such a good thing).

Considering my situation and in view of the timing, is it wise to see if I can recall the defferal or I should just chill till next year?

Thank you.

Hello all,

Please I am a bit confused about what I saw in the screenshot below. Does this mean that if I defer my admission for fall 2020 which have been moved online temporarily I won't fufill the criteria? Or is this for people with study permit?
