Skelewu: Wow. I never knew kidney transplant was possible in any Nigerian hospital. With the way people rush to India for kidney transplant you'd think there's no qualified urological surgeon in Nigeria.
But then again, it remains to be seen how successful they are in the long run. I mean out of all the transplants carried out in all the listed Nigerian hospitals over the years how many of the patients did not suffer a relapse. Relapse (Rejection) has nothing to do with the facility but on the persons body |

BluntBoy: What should he have called them? What is the meaning of Okoro? Stop kidding yourself. We are all Nigerians and we know “Awon Okoro“ is very derogatory. Its not about the meaning of Okoro but the ways it is said. The problem is that Nigerians are used to their vile nature that everything becomes ok. What will it have taken for him to say Awon igbo?. Just like people think saying “that Aboki” is cool instead of saying “that hausa guy” |

Politics › Re: Bill To Eradicate Age-induced Discrimination In Employment Passes Second Reading by Unemadu: 5:03am On Nov 08, 2018 |
Flango:
While I think these companies should be more considerate with regards to age, I can understand some situations.
First, tertiary institutions don't train employees for a particular company, hence, the need for companies to mould the employee to their taste. For some this can take some years of training and learning on the job which makes it necessary to recruit youngsters.
Secondly, the youngsters are most likely single, energetic and have less responsibilities. They are also flexible and highly mobile. This means that their jobs are the only thing they have to focus on, at least for the short term. It will be nice to get the best of their youthful period.
Finally, you might need employees who have served the company for many years and still have time to take up management positions.
Even football clubs go for certain age brackets when looking at the long term.
But I think 30 years and below is fine for such peculiar needs, not all those below 24 with 10 years experience.
I'm talking about graduate trainee, and not all job types No to discrimination based on age, gender, tribe, religion, point blank period! |

Ofuzo: For the past few days, I've been talking about land scaping/land management, erosion catastrophe, urban renewal projects, buying and selling land by individuals, building gutters and calling it drainage. I also talked about water and waste treatment plants on the imo state thread. Let me pivot to a different subject, something I briefly mentioned which you brought up in this post, when you said that state capitals should have MAYORS. Well, not just state capitals, but also major cities and small towns. Like I have repeatedly said, we practically do everything the wrong way in nigeria. The practice in developed countries, is to have administrators in all localities. In nigeria, after a state, you have local government areas. In the US, it's called COUNTIES. In these counties, you have towns and cities, major and minor. The prerequisites for having a locality tagged as a city is the population. Once a locality reaches that population milestone, the state awards them city status. There are certain advantages that accrues to a locality with city designation because it empowers them to do certain things like collecting TAXES, electing their own MAYORS, having their own police department etc. So, in the US, all the cities and towns collect their own taxes, of which REAL ESTATE taxes is the most important. But, they are saddled with responsibilities of which they MUST be able to fulfill and satisfy. Cities are essentially responsible for PAYING TEACHERS SALARIES, COLLECTING GARBAGE/THRASH, BUILDING AND MAINTAINING CITY ROADS, MAINTAINING LAW AND ORDER with their police department. And most importantly above all others, they are responsible for ENFORCING city ordinances, or rules and REGULATIONS. SO YES, this is how it's done in the US, unlike how it's done in nigeria. The same we are clamouring for decentralization from Abuja for powers to devolve to the states, we should also be fighting for state powers to devolve all the way to our VILLAGE COUNCILS. This set up where nigerian state governors are micro managing most things like GARBAGE COLLECTION in the entire state is a JOKE OF MONUMENTAL PROPORTION. I have to say that the USA is a very peculiar country, even to Europeans. What I would like is to see what we can learn from Europeans or developed asian countries. |

Purehuman: My vision is an igboland that will be the destination of everything positive in Africa. Moving at this pace will make others overtake us. Igboland is sitting in the middle of over 50million people. Anything you produce can get to 13states within 4hours. This is what Lagos cannot offer. If we play our game right, we should colonize the Akwa ibom seaport for our personal use. All our products should enter through that part and the monies spent in Lagos will reduce.
If we can call for an economic conference. The pharmaceutical industries, the transport, the commerce, the banking and insurance, the real estate and every sector, even ICT and entertainment, we should create an economic plan with them so as to make them expand and increase in market share. This will make the east the focus of all forms of investment. You can tax remittance but you cannot mandate a person in the diaspora to pay a certain amount on tax, that is absurd. You can talk about community development levy and that is fine which to me is an informal tax and is optional |
Politics › Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Unemadu: 8:40am On Jan 19, 2018 |
pazienza: That is ehn. As if the aggressive extortion from Nigerian security personnels from Lagos to Asaba is not a burden already too much to bear for a SE business person, some persons are pushing for more aggressive taxation from the SE state governments, that like the rest of the shithole country are not accountable, to implement another aggressive taxation on the already weary Igbo people, just so that they could do IGR dick measuring contest with some unscrupulous people online. Its true that people often do IGR dick measuring but the truth is that we need to boost revenue in the state. For me if people are much more involved in how their taxes are managed then no one will steal their money. Europeans bear a heavy tax burden, Naija own is small sef but they are satisfied ( not all though)with services |

If you want a project, you must think of how to fund it. I want to know Enugu tax policies and how they generate revenue.
For road infrastructure i propose a tax on every liter of petrol and diesel sold in the state.
Schools and clinics should be community based and lga should collect property taxes for building and maintenance.
There should be a uniform sales tax by percentage not by amount. We seriously need to formalize trade in the state
I’m not sure if theres imcome tax at state level but if so, it should be abolished. |

I agree, Enugu people should invest in the state and bring at least one big business in the state that can employ a substantial amount of people and reduce brain drain to Lagos |
