The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, will tomorrow, August 3, 2020, roll out his campaign in Edo North Senatorial District of the state ahead of the September 19 governorship election.

In a statement, State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chris Osa Nehikhare, said plans have been concluded to roll out the campaign in Edo North for the re-election of the governor.

According to him, “The Edo State PDP Campaign Council will commence the Edo North leg of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s re-election on August 3, 2020. The governor would be touring the units and wards in the Senatorial District and would commission projects that have been completed.

“The governor would also be inspecting ongoing projects in the axis to ensure that contractors are up to speed with the projects. The gatherings will hold in adherence the coronavirus (COVID-19) as the governor would be meeting with the key leaders in the units and wards.”

The governor, who has continued to receive endorsements from different sectors of society, is riding on a groundswell of support going into the governorship election.

These are the real foot soldiers who mobilize their men to election monitoring and voters mobilisation. Obaseki went to placate PDP leaders at the national and regional level and failed to placate ward leaders. He didn't need anyone to tell him what to do.

He'd learn that political leadership is not a novice job and would learn to respect Oshiomole and Anenih. So he must be ready to spend and outwit people because he lacks the clout to naturally appeal to people.

These ward chairmen don't trust Obaseki, they know that after using them to win elections, he'd abandon them like he did the APC leaders, so their aim is to milk him dry and vote a man who'd protect their interests.

If I was Obaseki, I'd be careful spending state resources in prosecuting the election. Ize Iyamu seems like a vindictive man and may sponsor a petition to the EFCC against Obaseki.

I need not to answer you again because you are ignorant of what played out in 2016. I went to vote then, APC was sharing 5-6k in my polling units while PDP was sharing 1-2k per votes. I refused to collect the money and voted for who I intended to vote for. People voted for APC then because of Oshiomole performance. His performance was far higher than Igbinedion then but now, Oshiomole have lost his good will of the people because of his godfatherism attitude as well as what he said against Ize Iyamu in 2016, people see him now as two faced individual. Obaseki performance will win the vote for him. Obaseki have the workers, pensioners, market men and women, bus and car drivers in the State. I'm fully on ground, you can not deceive me on Edo politics

The last has not been heard of the infighting between the 192 PDP ward chairmen and the leadership of the PDP in the State, latest reports reaching our news desk has it on good authority that the PDP ward chairmen have refused to start campaigning for Obaseki if they don’t get their alerts.

A few days ago the ward chairmen in a discreet meeting held at a location in Edo Central passed on an ultimatum to Obaseki to make the sum of 10 Million Naira available for each of the ward chairmen across the State for proper electioneering campaign to commence.

According to the ward chairmen, it makes no sense for Obaseki to spend above 20 Billion to clinch the PDP’s ticket without the ward chairmen partaking in the largesse bearing in mind that the bulk of the work stops at their doorstep.

They started an agitation that the sum of 10 Million should be made available to them, Wike, Secondus and other top echelons of the party waded in and pleaded with the foot generals to CALM DOWN till the campaign was flagged off.

As at last night, Obaseki had agreed to make available a further sum of 1.92 Billion for the ward chairmen to avert a mass defection to the APC.

The money was expected to hit the personal accounts of the ward chairmen this morning, but as at the time of filing this report no such thing like an alert.

The aggrieved ward chairmen have vowed to keep to their threat if their demands are not met.

With some of the points you raised here, it shows you didn't took part in Oshiomole second term election. I was one of ACN party agents, money were not given to us to share. PDP paid voters 3k -5k for votes but majority of the people took the money and voted for Oshiomole because he was fighting godfatherism then and people loved him because he performed more than Igbinedion. Oshiomole have lost most of his good will. I love Edo people, they know how to collect money and vote the persons they want to vote for, it's only a few that will vote for money. May I let you know, i understand Edo and APC politics more than you.

You don't even understand campaign politics. Almost all persons you see on rally are paid on range of #500-#2000, only a few just come to see the candidate and his term. I graduated from federal University, candidates brought money to SUG executives to mobilize students for their rallies. They brought money to rent buses, students were given #1k each. In my area, APC gave money to the leaders to mobilize people for rallies. Stop lying to yourself. PDP and APC paid money to mobilize people to campaign grounds.

Ahead the September 19 Governorship election in Edo State deputy governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu engaged in a war of words with his boss, Godwin Obaseki at a leadership meeting Thursday following what they described as failure by the governor to release funds for the election.

Apart from the governor and his deputy who were at the meeting, others includes the secretary to the state government, Osarodion Ogie, Charles Idahosa and Domingo Obende.

It was gathered that trouble started when the governor commenced the meeting by saying all hands must be on deck for them to be able to defeat the APC.

But Shaibu raised his hands to speak, the governor later regretted why he allowed him to speak. The deputy governor was said to have told the governor that he (Obaseki) is not serious in winning the coming election.

He reminded the governor that different committees were set up in the past two weeks but the governor had refused to fund them. Lamenting that the APC has been busy in serious campaigns while nothing has happened regarding the PDP campaign.

Tension heightened when he accused the governor of luring him to fight his god father Oshiomhole and now showing no commitment or seriousness in funding the forthcoming election.

"We have been sitting here doing nothing while Oshiomhole is all over the town, we are losing members every day and all we do is setting up committees every day without funding. I will not take this nonsense and you pushed me into fighting a man that made me what I am today yet all we seeing everyday is committees with no funding.

"Mr governor I see you dont understand what this election is all about. You are not serious about it. Do you think is the little boys carrying laptops here that will do it. If you don't want to fund the election then I have no business being here. I will back out" Shaibu declared.

Attempts by Ogie to stop Shaibu further infuriated the deputy governor who told Ogie to shut his mouth and sit down. However, Charles Idahosa stood up and backed Shaibu, expressing his fear that Oshiomhole will send all of them to jail if they lose the election.

He further urged the governor to release money for the guber campaign. Obaseki who a source said looked visibly confused at that moment, requested for the budget of each of the committees, six of them in number.

His request furthered infuriated Shaibu who thundered that he was still asking for the budget when APC had been campaigning day and night. He warned the governor that if nothing serious is happening he will walk back to his APC which he said he left in pains.

The deputy governor walked out of the meeting after describing his boss as unserious.

Crowd on election campaigns dey determine election results?
Most of those people there were mobilized with money. PDP and APC will use money to mobilize people to campaign grounds. In 2019, it was on range of #500-#2000 depending on your level. Some will not even get the money because someone will pocket it.

Election results are not by the crowd on campaign grounds. Most of the people there were mobilized with money, some came to See Oshiomole and other personalities present because it will take them another four years to see them again. Alot of persons there don't even have voter's card. September 20, we will know the winner of the election. If Governor Obaseki and his campaign term go to that same venue tomorrow, same crowd will still turn out. Their turning out doesn't mean they love you.
