KoiceReloaded: In basic terms, a screenwriter is a crew, while a director is a captain of the ship. When a ship is docked well, you don't praise the crew, rather, you praise the captain on the account of his nautical skills, yes?
In technical terms, a screenwriter is bound by a contract that stipulates their output only ends when they handed in their work to the contracting entity, whilst a director's contract stipulates their work only stops when all aspects of filmmaking are completed. So basically, directors receive more credit because they do most of the heavy lifting. What are some good examples of movies with a good script but terrible directing ? |

We're barely 3 months away from bidding this decade goodbye. This decade has been a fascinating period for filmmakers. Emergent talents caught a break, veteran filmmakers rediscovered their X-factor, while some got chewed up and spat out by the unforgiving movie machine. From the old to the new, who amongst the top filmmakers impressed you the most this decade (2010-2019)? My top 6 are;
- Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar, Dunkirk) - S. Craig Zahler (Bone Tomahawk, Brawl In Cell Block 99, Dragged Across Concrete). - The Russo Brothers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame). - David Fincher (The Social Network, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl). - Denis Villeneuve (Incendies, Prisoners, Enemy, Sicario, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049). - Quentin Tarantino (Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood ). Koice , quick question, why do people give a lot of homage to directors but not the script writers. |
Politics › Re: How To Make 1 Dollar = 1 Naira ? Apostle Suleman Asks Nigerians, Check Reactions by urahara(m): 6:14am On Oct 28, 2019 |
grandstar: It is almost impossible but it is possible.
First re-denominate. That means removing 2 zeros from the currency like Soludo wanted to do. That is what Ghana, Brazil, Argentina and many countries did
So, instead of $1 = 360, it will be $1 = N3.60. Note, all prices will also have 2 zeros removed from it. So, if a car cost N8,000,000, it will now cost N80,000.
So, the exchange rate will be N3.60 to $1.
How then can the currency get to $1 = N1? The only way possible is for the Naira to be increasing in value little by little overmany years. It might be up to thirty years. The country's budget must be balanced, and must have current account surpluses and inflation must stay below 2%. Also, the populace must be well educated and corporate tax rates low so that investment will flow in despite a strong currency and high wages.
However,, the country does not need $1 = N1. What the country needs is a currency that has a competitive value and not make Nigerian produced goods expensive. Also, inflation must be low, preferably below 5% for a country like Nigeria. The budget must either balance or must be very low.
The Japanese yen is about 100 Yen to $1. The South Korean Won is over 1,000 to $1. This did not stop these countries from becoming rich. How does a budget have an effect on exchange rate ? |

KoiceReloaded: The Wire would have come good at the top, if not for that dud of a season 5. That epic failure of a season took a lot out of the show. HBO should have ended it at season 4 IMO.
The Sopranos had an abundance of fillers, and it kinda reduced the quality, overall. Had more fun watching Broadwalk Empire and Gomorrah than The Sopranos, tbh. Still a great show nonetheless, but doesn't compare to BB in terms of core quality and consistency. Just my opinion though. So many series about narcotics Sha. |

Ishilove: I celebrate you, young brother. Lord knows I am terrible at even basic Maths so I can understand to some extent your battle. It takes sheer guts not to have given up. I really celebrate you o.
I have a friend here (you know yourself ) who I call from work to give me the answer to some basic calculations in the office. The first time I called him was for him to explain to me how to get the percentage of a figure, and since then it has become a regular occurrence.
I am not ashamed to admit that I giraffed to get a borderline C6 in mathematics in WASSCE. I first wrote GCE in SS2 and got F9 in Mathematics and Biology, but I wasn't really bothered because I was using it to practice. The following year, the only topics I studied in Maths was Mean, Median and Mode because it was easy. I didn't bother with other topics because everything was like Greek.
Exam day, i breezed through the only MMM question, dropped my pen and turned to my seat mate, Richard to see if he had gone far so I could copy from him. To my utmost chagrin, Richard was dubbing from me.
Toh.
I knew I was about to be fvcked anally with a ten foot pole, without lubes!
When my guy was done, we both sat twiddling our thumbs and occasionally glancing round the large, silent hall. It seemed like we were the only idle students. Everyone was writing.
The invigilator passed by and gave Richard and I side eyes. I quickly bent down and formed activity.
That's is how we stayed for the whole 2hours 15 minutes. At the final 15 minutes, we had started to panic. Richard managed to answer one more question but I was sure it was rubbish, but I still copied sha. I was close to tears at this point.
In desperation, he turned back and saw that his crush, one tall, foine sisi like that had not only finished her booklet, but was now using extra sheet.
Richard exclaimed "Ha, aye mi o!"
He proceeded to snatch her booklet off her table, unmindful of her gasped protests and the invigilator close by, dumped it in-between us and the next words he whispered to me are forever burned in my memory.
He said: "Ishi, if you know what is good for you, you better write as fast as you can."
And write fast I did.
At the end of 12 minutes which passed in a blur, I had dubbed the solutions to 6 questions.
We both got C6, thanks to the grace of God and bold dubbing.
This is my WAEC testimony.
I and Richie have long lost contact but I still bless God for him anytime I think back to that day, almost 2 decades ago. This is the most hilarious stuff I have read on nairaland today |

I really dont understand how people think Maoist China's great leap into starvation was a great policy. They literally called their own economic miracle " the opening of China " but yet some ignorant nairalanders keep on typing poo that Maoist China is the reason for China's success. |

chijioke17: Look at what I quoted, he said "name one country that has gotten rich by being self sufficient ". Cjina may no longer be self sufficient, but they got rich bt being self sufficient. If you research on the economical history of china, you'll realise that at a point, they closed their borders. No import or export. Took advantage of their man power. China is one of the biggest technology locations if not the biggest economy in the world. Thanks to their hard stand. Lastly, please be sure of facts before you counter a claim @ grandstar , see me see trouble , this guy thinks communist China laid the foundation for China's modern success. |
