madan: Hi my fellow nairalanders! I just want to know your take on this cus someone really close to me is about to do this. She's so crazy about her lover despite her parent's warnings. Her parents see the guy as not good enough for her considering their social status. This guy is from a very poor background and a drop out, still struggling to survive. He lives with a friend in Ikorodu, who is a driver in a water factory. Her parents have threatened to stop her education because of this relationship. But my friend doesn't give a kick about that knowing that she could destroy her dreams of becoming a Medical Doctor. She just want to be with this guy forever. Now she plans to elope with the guy. Is this rational? Please, what do you think?
ITS NOT WORTH IT O.

PoliticsRe: Economic Reforms Not Easy In Nigeria – Jonathan by vanstanzy(m): 7:10pm On Jan 16, 2013
take dat: Economic reforms are not easy because of the poor quality of leadership and our socio-political environment complicates the process of national development. The depravity of government makes them disoriented by churning out absurd policies and reforms without political will to see it through. A country that is still on zero industrialisation, double digit inflation rate, high interest rate, N6trillion debt and more borrowings to come, infrastructural deficit, massive corruption, failed political class, high unemployment rate and insecurity will NEVER achieve any sustainable development in the long run!
GBAM!!! U mean CORRUPTION is the reason.
PoliticsRe: Economic Reforms Not Easy In Nigeria – Jonathan by vanstanzy(m): 7:02pm On Jan 16, 2013
GEJ suppose know say na corruption be the reason. Economic reforms have no way of working in a very corrupt climate like ours.

dorothy111: Deep in Costa Rica jungle, a fisherman named Chito found a crocodile that have been shot in the eye by a cattle farmer and left for dead. Chito was able to drag the massive reptile into his boat and bought him to his house, where he stayed in his for months, nursing him back to health. Chico named the croc 'Pocho'. "I stayed by Pocho side while he was ill, sleeping next to him at night.
Pocho is roughly 17 feet long, He and Pocho play, wrestle and hug on daily basis. The bond, Chito said, it took years to forge.

PoliticsRe: World Bank: Poverty Has Reduced In Nigeria by vanstanzy(m): 5:04pm On Jan 16, 2013
fkaz: The World Bank has praised economic policies of the present administration declaring that it has led to slight reduction in the country’s poverty index from 48 to 46 percent.
Speaking when he visited President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday, World Bank’s vice president for Africa, Mr Mouktar Diop, said Nigeria’s economic indicators remained positive even times of recession.
He said “at the time when the economy is going down, we have seen that Nigeria has been keeping a growth rate which is rather significant. So, I was here to hear from the President’s priority and discuss other issues such as how poverty has been evolving in the country and what we can do to accelerate the reduction of poverty.
“Our work recently has shown that there is slight reduction in the level of poverty in Nigeria moving from 48 to 46 percent. The trend is good. It needs to be accelerated obviously. What we discussed are the policies that we can put in place to accelerate the pace of poverty reduction in Nigeria.”
Diop said the World Bank has decided to intervene in Nigeria’s energy crisis saying, “We decided at the World Bank to put up a task force which will include private sector branch to support the reform. It is good that the reform is really making progress. I was with the main players of the power sector today, and they were all happy with the reform process so far.”
On his part, Jonathan said though some of the reforms were not easy to push through, his administration would continue to do its best towards ensuring sustainable growth in the country.
“We will continue to do our best. We would have had more robust growth by now but for the global economic recession. With your continued support, we will certainly achieve more,” the president said.
Jonathan said that with the continued support of the World Bank, other international institutions and investors the Federal Government will achieve an even higher growth rate for the national economy.

415volt: Last year my monthly consumption was increased from 300kwhr to 700kwhr.All they could give me as excuse was that I have no meter(stolen since 2010) because of that we have to bear the cost of those that are connected to PHCN supply illegally in my area. The man in charge told me that the monthly energy supply to a particular area has to be accounted for by house with bill but no meter. We applied for prepaid meter but nothing came out it.I was informed about the promo @ Abule Egba district (pay half of your outstanding bill to clear the remaining half) and quickly fell for it not knowing that its a ruse.Since October when I paid half the remaining is still reflecting on my bill.Presently, I have N35,000 on my bill, what about you.
WHAT!!! shocked shocked shocked 35k? are u sure other houses are not connected to ur electric bill?

PoliticsRe: The Unending Rehabilitation Works On 3rd Mainland Bridge Lagos by vanstanzy(m):
Its good u have noticed this, though if the bridge isn't repaired and eventually fails, the magnitude of lose that Nigeria will suffer is unmentionable.huh huh huh But one of the problem of this frequent repair is that time is not given for any repairs on third mainland bridge to cure. In the construction industry, one doesn't make a repair especially on roads now and allow it to be used almost immediately. The repair of the bridge is kinda like the same thing. So how on earth won't there be frequent repairs.
I suggest alternate roads be used during repair periods, and the bridge be closed completely to traffic. While the repair takes a while, like 1-2 months to cure very well, depending on the extent of repair. But Nigerians are too impatient for this kinda solution to work.

kingingkinging: You wanted to say he should have set up a committee to look into why the pace is slow for 35 months, almost 3 years, like our dear presido. Later he should also set up another committee to look into what that committee has done and finally another committee to write white paper for the investigation of the first committee before withdrawing the contract.

Pls note that this is what we call SLA (Service Level Agreement) it must have been stated in the contractual agreement ab initio, so no reason for an unnecessary delay. Thank God Mr Fash is a lawyer by profession, he understands 'law of contract very well.

Abeg he is on point.

what the residents want to see is a motorable road and not a bunch of excuses for the delay like somebody (presido)was giving an alibi for corruption the other time. In fact people like Fashola actually saved my psyche because Jonathan would have made me to believe some things are not possible in governance in Nigeria.
U are so on-point, God bless ur brains.

PoliticsRe: Fashola Sacks Contractor Over Slow Road Construction by vanstanzy(m): 12:34pm On Jan 16, 2013
Na so e suppose be! That's my no nonsense Gov'nor, Fashola. Contractors should learn to be serious when executing projects, and Govt should learn how to award contracts to serious minded contractors, not to their unserious cohorts.
I too work on a road construction and i can categorically tell that, the gov'nor raised an important factor that scares contractors; "one of the challenges affecting contractors’ performance is incessant harassment by youths." The youths in Niger-Delta are far worse. Very stubborn, lazy and troublesome.
