I think I'll go copy a review of directors I did on the other thread and paste it here. It seems unfair now that I've overlooked some directors. Maybe I'll add to that list too. Jennifer is at least passable. That Monique is scary. Forget being politically correct. She doesn't turn me on. And does Monique have anything to do with, uh, being big?

I can't say any of the winners really surprised me. I was only mildly and pleasantly surprised with Meryl Streep's and Monique's wins but that's cuz I had forgotten about the two films. Unfortunately I don't see a golden road to a glorious career for Monique. She's gonna be a one off. Bite me. I bet Mariah Carey thought if she could look more like the rest of us, she could win something. Try again. All in all, I'm pleased with this year's winners. Absolutely. Watch out for Up In The Air at the Oscars. And I think Up was great, tee.

I haven't heard of or seen that trailer o.

Ah. Somebody has a short fuse. Hmmm. I think maybe no fuse at all. I like fireworks. Inglorious Basterds get my nod if for nothing else.

Hehe. Darthmaul is a fine tiemaker. Good for you, bro. I remember scenes from Schindler's List and I know why I'm for SS. The guy's under fire though. The last indie film wasn't all it could be. I just hope Avatar sets him in the right mood for the Tin Tin thing. Hmmm that rhymes. Though I'd gladly be an island on the A.I. thing, it's nice to have some company Darthmaul.

I've not heard of Percy Jackson and I'm finding it hard to envision an epic film by that name. Anyways, I agree with teeluv. I don't think Pierce will thrive in a movie where he'll not be the center of attraction. If this one doesn't have all the characters revolving around him, I think he will suck. But it's also true he's been above average atleast in most of his film. Also, teeluv, I perceive you don't know that iice is talking of a new Clash of the Titans with Avatar's Sam Worthington. Golden Globes anybody?

Y'all should listen to Max. Though I suspect you won't. I was at first excited by the film cuz it had a decent trailer and cuz the director was black and I'm tired of Spike Lee and I love Gerard Butler and Jamie recently impressed me in The Soloist. So it seems the film had a lot going for it right? Well I'm taking her word for it cuz I hate spurious agendas and senseless murders as she had me believe the film is rife with. I've not seen it yet but I think anything would be better than 2012. Thinking aloud: I do not really like the roles Butler's been getting. Seem single-minded and requiring no heart or passion. Save the film he was in with Heigl anyways. What gives?
TV/Movies › Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by vescucci(op): 2:59am On Jan 17, 2010
Ah, but your question is not one I can answer in a straight-forward manner. You see, I like A.I. for reasons that do not make any sense. I like sad themes and graphic storytelling. I like noir and minimalist films. I like a movie to be stripped bare of extraneous characters and superfluous dialogue. This is why I love The Ladykillers for example. I like to see B&W too. Stuff like these appeal to me on a PERSONAL level. Personally I'd rate A.I. from 8.5 to 9. Objectively, I'd rate it like 7 or so. The idea for the film was Stanley Kubrick's who I like very much also. I think he croaked or something and the baton fell, quite naturally, to Steven.

Almost forgot. Y'all should stop hating on A.I. I thought it was awesome. But, tee, it wasn't initially Spielberg's idea.
TV/Movies › Re: Hollywood directors: Rate or hate? What's your Take? by vescucci(op): 1:11am On Jan 17, 2010
Steven is finally in front!

teeluv reminds me of me when I first joined this forum. Hey, tee, I noticed I don't have James Cameron on the list but I put the poll up way back in '07 and how was I to know the son of a 9mm will go and make a thing like Avatar? I'll see if I can adjust the poll but it'd pointless as he'd already be 71 eligible votes disadvantaged. I like Quentin but I'm beginning to fear he might become unpopular if he doesn't zone out. Another Kill Bill won't come easy. He needs to find a muse and fast. Even Inglorious Basterds had a tepid reception. I can't say anything about Sherlock Holmes till I see it. After 2012, I'm not trusting trailers.

iice, mi cara, give it your best shot!

TV/Movies › Re: The Movie Club by vescucci(m): 9:14pm On Jan 15, 2010
Yikes, Spike. I loves you too.

I don't think Roland is a bad director but a good anything knows when to quit. Reminds me of a saying: if at first you don't succeed, QUIT! Apparently 2012 is one of those films with an awesome trailer. If you waste your money watching it, your evil side wants other people to waste their money too and thus more money for bullshit 2012. I even forgot to rate it. 20 plus 12 equal 32. 32% is more than enough.
TV/Movies › Re: Hollywood: Favourite Movies, Actors and Awards. Tinseltown reviews & Gossip by vescucci(m): 8:22pm On Jan 15, 2010
When you were 5? Chai! It musta made some impression. I've never heard of the film and I thought I knew all Denzel's films. I probably can never find it. Oh well.
TV/Movies › Re: The Movie Club by vescucci(m): 8:14pm On Jan 15, 2010
After seeing this film, I had a little affection for The Knowing. I started counting ridiculous close calls and eventually gave up. They were that many and that stupid. Doomsday films are having some sort of an uprising and I can't figure out why that is. Since Armaggedon no doomsday film has impressed me but 2012 left me really pissed. On the plausibility of the world ending that way, I might disagree with Spiked. I'm no expert but I think it's possible that the earth kicks the bucket that way. Our sun is gonna go out one day, but preceding the supernova the earth will be long gone. At least as we know it. The earth supports life and does so ever so delicately. Any significant increased solar activity will upset that balance and plunge us into the doomsday age. I must be boring by now but there's a purpose for this monologue.

What I can't accept is that doomsday will come about so suddenly and like a thief in space. What? As far as the film goes, it's less than two years. Space is pretty elastic but you can only stretch it that far. Another thing is there would be no safe haven anywhere after the shit hits the fan. Not in Africa especially that's freaking tropical and largely equatorial but we all know how the U.S. is the centre of the universe, lol. And that ridiculous ship. They ended the film as though everybody lived happily ever after. I think I might've stayed behind and enjoy the fireworks like Woody Harrelson. I'm already spent talking about this. Spike was so right about the foolishness of not exploiting the Mayan prophecy. Frankly I'd have happily accepted doomsday based on planetary alignment rather than this solar flare crap. Bullshit you can't disprove is actually yummy. Bullshit you can disprove spoils the pudding. I liked the Russian billionaire. I like Woody. I liked John Cusack (and I love his sister). I think Chiwetel's was the best performance and that's not only cuz he's my neighbour's uncle's son-in-law's best friend.

Haba! Curb your enthusiasm. You're fueling the fire of haters like JK. Cheap shot, lol. I know you don't hate it. I'm just kidding witcha man. Summarise this thing if no one else wants to review and let's move on to something that'll provide an outlet for some of my frustration, say 2012
TV/Movies › Re: The Movie Club by vescucci(m): 8:37pm On Jan 14, 2010
Titanic was a complete package but not really my cup of tea. Excellent tea I'll pass on and have cocoa. Strip it of many things and it's just boy meets girl. I'd rather watch Look Who's Talking.

And Avatar does not have an original story. Not by a long shot but that doesn't automatically make the story bad. Two questions: did you like Pocahontas and Dances With Wolves? Surely yes. There you go. I remember when we were having a go at Eagle Eye. It kinda sucked only cuz we were tired of the overused deranged A.I. thingie. Dances With Wolves and Pocahontas are almost relics now. Avatar is refreshing jare. It makes 3D seem like a new invention. Even if you puked afterwards.
Family › Re: Intimacy After Traditional Wedding: Fornication Or Not? by vescucci(m): 8:22pm On Jan 14, 2010
Truly, this is why I stay in the movies section. Marriage is nothing but an agreement between two families that their children be together. Finito. So called white weddings are great if you like a show of holiness. But you shouldn't do that secular thingie called divorce afterwards even if you discover you'd married a serial killer/child rapist for that's not holy

@poster. I could have read the whole thread but I lost patience. Living alone is not a crime. You can do all the crazy stuff under your parents' nose so I see this as the ball being in your court. If you have to stay at home for reasons best known to you, then you have got to be very very busy. Failing that, you've gotta learn how to live in your head and lead an alternate virtual life. Trust me

Family › Re: Is Divorce The Answer? by vescucci(m): 8:05pm On Jan 14, 2010
Some people do not think this is an option for religious reasons. Some for the same religious reasons revel in it. I think in extreme cases divorce is definitely wise but marriage is a serious thing and people should generally look to go back to how things were when they got married.

Where will it leave you when he gives up the ghost

You bash in his head, heat him up and cause him to empty his bowel

To dig both our graves, you better bring a shovel.

Got the whole family in grand hysteria

You unruly pair of typhoid and malaria

You unruly pair of malaria and typhoid

Have got the whole family paranoid
