Compare to names like Jake; John; Dave; Sam; Ben and Ted, etc, that you hear with Westerners especially the Americans and the British, we have names like Igbinoghoduwa; Chukwumerije; Oluwaseun; Ilegbinosa; Chidiebere; Oladimeji and Majekudunmi etc. I'm not suggesting that we should imitate the Westerners, in fact, it's a proud thing that we still make use of our native names. But i'm just wondering if there are vernacular names with a single syllable in Nigeria, if you know any, please say. By the way, how long (how many syllables) are your own names without abbreviation? |
modath: Vicjustic,I'm not certain of how it is done in the US, but there could be elements of fact in this assertion. There are countries in Europe (especially a Baltic state like Latvia) where an invitation letter is required to pass through their ministry of foreign affairs, and once it gets approval, the visa applicant stands 90% chance of being granted the visa |
Dextra: Thank you for your frank response. if the 50% fund does not meet the required fund what should I do? ebyjoyken: Hi I applied for a visiting visa to finland, inorder to go and visit my husband. I provided all the documents they needed. But I was refused, on the ground that my intention to leave the teritory member state at the expire of your visa could not be ascertained. I appleid last year novmber. I want to re-apply by april. What can I do to avoid refusal again?Hi, your answers can be found in this link: https://www.nairaland.com/967110/main-reasons-many-refused-visas |
Dextra: I have a question Vicjustice. I have a saving account where my salary come in every month. However, I move out almost all the money for group contributions with my colleagues and give people who ask for loan. Now., I got an invitation to Canada and asked my debtors and friends I've helped in the past to pay back what they owe. Now, about 50% of my fund will come from my salary while the other 50% will be from friends. There will be record of these money going out in my statement of account, only one or two account credit was not recorded being from my brother and sister respectively. Will they consider this as "MONEY LODGEMENT? if yes, What should I do?If the 50% fund that accumulated from your salary savings is good enough to satisfy the visa officer, then there should be no worries about the Lump Lodgements. But if you are hoping to use lump lodgements as proof of your financial standings, i'm afraid it is not looking good at all. |
letsgohome: Hi VicJusticeNo, as there was a real money lodgement involved, such action is not considered as deceitful: however, you might want to read about it in this link: https://www.nairaland.com/967110/main-reasons-many-refused-visas: |
@poster; I was denied visa on my first application yesterday. please how soon can I reapply. ur urgent response wil be appreciated.

pls someone should assist me on what to do.
There is no time frame or duration or limit to apply for a visa after refusal, you can apply anytime you know that the reason(s) for your refusal is rectified. But i don't recommend an immediate reapplication if the reason(s) has got something to do with your financial standings |
Typical Nigerian conversation, a person can not say his own opinions without getting bashing words in retaliation of insults, what a shame. I am referring to you, lafflaff123, i followed the conversations, you made an analysis (of which myself, i disagree with some of your claims in silence): Now, as Justwise said your points are merely based on assumptions, wouldn't it have been a civilized thing to prove the validity of your claims instead of resorting to insult and mocking him for being "all knowing" and for being a moderator? |

dahonestboss: Hi Loreta, I am currently in Poland for a short course although I stay in the scandinavia.I beg to differ in regard to "cheap" Poland, Poland is not that cheap, the only cheap things in it are House Rentage and a few other bills or taxes: but essential things like food and clothing are considerably more expensive (than in western Europe), or at least, quite expensive in proportion to the level of wages in the country. |
tzetzefly: To answer this question about foreign trips done from your country of residence except to the UK in the last 10yrs,does it mean you have to start listing all the countries you have gone to, including African countries? If this is the case, the column/space provided for these details, is not sufficient. They are not compulsory, just write "VARIOUS COUNTRIES" |
Fox News always have ill people like such, unlike CNN, it's a known racist channel with racist hypocrites like Glenn Beck and a host of others conservative racists... Sad. |

Am sure he is very desperate to get some answers.I wasn't interested in replying to his query because, I saw that the reason for his unsuccessful outcome is narrated in the main article of this link: https://www.nairaland.com/967110/main-reasons-many-refused-visas |

osankem: Hi, Vicjustice and others, thanks so much for your help to people. Please i want to know the validity of a savings account statement for UK application. I will be co-sponsoring my mum with my brother who has a resident permit in the UK and has sent his bank statements to be included. I had my bank statement printed in the 2nd week of January because i wanted to apply for her then. just want to know if that statement is still valid cos am planning to submit her documents on Monday. I made some debits about a week ago and only have about 500k+ left, although i also have a dollar acct of abt $5k which i am also including the statement in the package. Please am i good to go?There is a good chance that the embassy will contact the bank to see if the money remains in the account after the statement had been taken. |
It is boring to hear people asking "what documents" that are required for this or for that visa, and i see that no matter how many individuals that are answered, there will continue to be many others who will ask the same question over and over and over again. It doesn't make much of a sense to ask this same question or to keep on answering it to everyone who asks it, so, i have decided to create this narrative list to answer the question conclusively. Here are the documents that are required of visa applicants of every category. This article is subject to modification and updates: * Invitation letter or accommodation details from the country you intend to visit; * (If on invitation by an individual,) a copy of the bio-data page of the passport of the person inviting you. * Your national passport or travel document with at least 6 months to expiration; * (If you are an alien resident in the country that you are applying from,) evidence of permission to remain in the country: ie, a residence permit or an appropriate long-term visa; * Proof of address: utility bills are valid proofs * Passport sized colour photographs, not more than 6 months old; * (If employed,) a letter from your employer granting leave of absence from your job for a specified period. The letter should also say how long you have been employed by that employer, in what job(s) and should indicate when you are expected back at work: Note, you must be at least one year in your employment; * (If sent or sponsored by your employer,) the evidence letter to this effect; expected to demonstrate the reasons and benefits for sponsoring you; * (If sent or sponsored by your employer,) the company's financial statement with evidence of fund availability for your own use; * (If self-employed,) evidence of your business activities and financial standing. Note, you must be running the company for at least one year; * (If self employed or if applicable to you as an employee,) your tax clearance certificate to show your tax compliance level and also your income; * (If a student,) a letter from your school stating what course you are on, its start and finish dates and the dates of the holiday period during which you intend to travel abroad; Note: if you are not working you should include financial documents of the person who is supporting you; if someone else is paying for your trip, You would be expected to explain why you are being sponsored and to demonstrate how your sponsor will benefit from your trip. * (If applicable,) evidence of any property you own in your home country (if applicable) Note: the property is expected to represent anything that could be considered a tie; such property may not be an isolated land or building that are not deemed to be taking more of your responsibilities: it is different if you own (let's say) business property that requires your obligatory management; * Details of any firm travel plans that you have made, ie itinerary: Warning! Do not book a flight because, you will forfeit your money if your visa is refused. Itinerary does not only mean flight ticket, it means travel plans which are, the preparations that you have put in place: such could be site seeing or tour guide arrangements, or onward flight tickets if applying for a transit or stopover visa; * Bank statements showing up to six months transaction details, must show sources of income: Warning! Avoid vast Money Lodgement (especially if it makes the majority of your finance), you will be refused without question. * (If applicable,) evidence of any income from other sources e.g. friends, family, savings, property etc * (If applicable and/or if the purpose of the trip has got something to do with family,) Evidence of family relationship and marital status ie Birth Certificate and/or Marriage or Civil Partnership Certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate (of spouse) * (If applying to join a spouse,) Evidence of relationship and communications or correspondences with your spouse: ie telephone details; emails; posts or/and photos of both of you together. * (If applying to join a spouse or family,) Birth certificate or Age Declaration document * It is very important to be able to show Ties or Obligations to return to. Note: Although, family or social ties and responsibilities are recommended, but logically, family ties aren't considered as strong as other ties because, there are vast cases of seekers involving in immigration fights to bring their family to join them, but yet, the magnitude of the family may be considered * (If an undisclosed ex-convict) The official record of any conviction(s), detailing the crime(s) you were convicted of and the sentence(s) you received * The appropriate fee Note: You must provide original documents (except the identification documents of another person). Failure to submit original documents may mean your application is delayed or refused. HARD DOCUMENTS are documents that carry Security Authentications; or Stamps; or Seals; or Signatures; or Apostiles, etc: (For example; a Marriage Certificate), such documents must be submitted in their original states (except the document is an identification document belonging to another person ie your sponsor's passport etc). Any other document that does not carry any of the mentioned authentication is allowed to be submitted in photocopy state: Your hard documents will be returned back to you in due time. Americanvisa: @vicjustice please come to my rescue,Last year i was sponsoring my wife to study in usa and we put in the application form that we have one child of whoch we dont yet have child, this is a wrong advice from one visa agent so as to show that she have a strong tie to Nigeria but i regretted doing such mistake after and she was denied the visa on the ground of account insufficiency. Now we want to reapply again and i dont like to put any thing like we have child when we dont, please what advice can you guys give me here pls.Really we are married but no child yet.Thank youFriend, this isn't looking good at all. The US embassy definitely keeps your records: so, it will be better to maintain your claim or you may get yourselves banned for life. You must have entered a (made-up) date of birth for the child, so even if you eventually have a child the DOB will not comply, I don't see how you can get over that easily; except perhaps you claim that the child is no more But i won't be surprised if they require you to provide the death cirtificate |
onezu: Please my sister cousin wants to visit her husband in the Uk and the company she is working for said they will sponsor her to meet with her husband for one month.please your urgent assistance, will the Uk Embassy accept thisLike i explained in the original post, if the company is offering her a complimentary vacation under its care, and she is able to satisfy the visa officer of her intention to return to Nigeria, she may be good to go. |
ibide: As a patrotic citizen of Nigeria . Can you fast & pray so that the super eagle will overcome ivory cost on our next game ?How did this unreasonable thing make it to Nairaland's homepage? This is a narrow minded mentality, or what makes you think you are the only people who can "pray and pray" and that the Ivorians can't do the same? God does not intervene in such partial matter, may the better side win. |
2bosun: I'll advise you to learn with automatic, take the test- which you'll surely pass on the first attempt. Start driving to get used to the roads and build some confidence, after 6 months- 1 year learn manual, it'll be so much easier for you to learn and you'll probably spend less money.I beg to differ on the automatic thing |
onezu: Good day,can some one Help a sister hear, how can we write an introduction letter to the EmbassyI expect you should be able to use the various samples as guidelines to compose the type that you require. |
2legit2qwt: I’m bringing this up because a friend of mine recently lost the opportunity of securing a job and I only got to know after the fact, meanwhile, I could have easily helped him considering that I’m a good friend to the recruiter. He was just being careful avoiding someone to use "witchcraft" to hinder his progress. Such superstitions are hard problems with Nigerians |
aysometin:I was forced to click the LIKE button not because of the sad thing that you experienced, but because your story is so real. Now, you would have (at least) one month before your next test appointment... And though it sometimes looks silly to have to drive according to the required manners, but you just have to play by the rules in order to pass the test (oh, how i hate the awkward way they want you to handle the steering-wheel like an old woman). Well, it is very important to remember everything that you were instructed during your lessons, and keep driving as instructed until you (unconsciously) get used to it. One major error is enough to fail the test, if not for the major error, it would take eight minor errors to fail it (in Ireland). I hope you do well next time Note: It is not "almost impossible" for a Nigerian experienced driver to pass the test, it is ABSOLUTELY impossible for any Nigerian to pass any test in any normal country without taking proper driving lessons. |
jfoxx: I am planning a road trip around 6 European countries in one week. Will fly from Lagos to Amsterdam, Netherland. Spend 2 nights in Amsterdam. From there, we will commence the road trip through Brussels (Belgium), Luxemburg, Melhouse (france), Milan (Italy), Austria and we head back to Amsterdam through Frankfurt (Germany). Please note that we have to spend the night if we like the city before preceeding. This suppose to be a fun trip and I intend it to be so.You neither specified your gender nor the gender(s) of your would be companion(s): this is very important, at least interested person(s) should be aware of who/what they are going to be involved with. By the way, what is your marital status, and would you welcome a gay person? |
Mike30890: Hello justiceI need you to give a honest answer to the below question, answering it honestly will save you a whole lot. Now, did you do anything to try to convince the Visa Officer that you have a relative in the UK, if so, what exactly did you do? |
influential01: @justwise, I was employ to a printing firm as a production asistant manager last year March and I earn six digit as monthly salary. Ve been able to save 800k in my acct.I wsh to visit uk bt I don't knw step to take.most important thing is that I don't know anyone in uk that can send me invitation letter. Pls I need your advice on steps I ll take on it.It is not a requirement to get invitation letter, you only need to provide your accommodation details, you can book a hotel. Note, the amount that you saved is not more important than the frequency of your income and the consistency of your bank statement. |
cheating Three years after he represented Nigeria last, Peter Ogaba was no longer playing active football. He was just 18 Article | August 19, 2011 - 3:00am | By China Acheru In 1985, Nigeria won the first ever FIFA U16 World Cup and there was a certain Fatai Atere on that team who was 14 years old. Two years later, at 16, Fatai Atere played in same World Cup and in three years he had faded out of the game. Atere was just 19 when he quit active football. In 1987, there was 13-year-old Peter Ogaba who played for Nigeria’s U16 team that won silver at the Canada 87 World Cup. He was the youngest player at that World Cup. Two years later, at 15, he played in the U16 World Cup again and the U20 World Cup in Saudi Arabia. Three years after that, Peter Ogaba was no longer playing active football. He was just 18. In 1987, Philip Osondu was named Most Valuable player at the FIFA U16 World Cup. At the time, he was 16 years old. A Super Eagles player who quit the game in 1996 told me that when he first got invited to the Eagles in 1981, Philip Osondu was in the same team but they both got dropped after the first phase of camping before qualifiers for the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup began. However, Osondu, after a sparkling performance at the U16 World Cup in 1987, was signed on by Anderlecht and was supposed to be a player for the future. He managed to play in the U20 World Cup in two years (1989) as an 18 year old, but two years later, Osondu could no longer play football actively. After he left Andelecht, he started selling African fabrics at the airport in Brussels and later on became a cleaner in the same airport. Fast-forward the hands of the clock a bit and that will take us to 2007 just before the Nigerian U17 team won the World Cup in Korea. The Nigerian goalkeeper had been married three years earlier and had three kids (2 from his wife and one from another). He was born in August 1979 and not August 1990 as his passport showed. The names of his kids, their ages and where they schooled were presented to the Nigeria Football Federation head of Technical Committee. This was five months before the tournament. Shockingly, this Federation member said the player will not be dropped. Yet another had his wife and kid at the airport to receive them as they returned home with the trophy and we can go on and on. In 2009 was another celebrated case of Fortune Chukwudi, the captain of Nigeria’s U17 team. Few people talked about the fact that Chukwudi was at least 10 years above the age limit. For those who do not remember, Fortune Chukwudi played for the Sharks feeder team in 2002 and at the time he said he was 18 years old. Unless he was actually 9 years old, then there is no way he could have been 17 in 2009. He actually registered with the Sharks feeder team as Fortune Chukwudi Ohakwe, grew up at Afikpo Street in Diobu, Port Harcourt, and left secondary school in 1998. He was five years old when he finished secondary school. That is an age cheat! I know not every player at youth level goes on to make it at the big stage but how many times do star players fail to make it on the big stage? Maybe 2 out of 10. Who have our star players been? How many played football ten years after the U17s? I know there are Nwankwo Kanu, Wilson Oruma, Jonathan Akpoboririe, Victor Ikpeba and a few others but we cheat at age group level and it has not helped Nigeria’s football. Can we kill age cheating in Nigerian football? Those who support age cheating will say there has never been any proof. They will say, “Lay the facts on the table and the players will be dropped” but they also know it is difficult to prove age cheating in Nigeria unless you were there when the player was born and you had a video recording of his birth including panning the camera to the calendar on the wall for good measure. How do you know an age cheat in Nigeria then? A few examples have been given above. If those were not age cheats, then no one is. Another example is Philemon Daniel who played regularly for Nigeria’s Kaduna United in 2001 but is still 20 years old ten years later and just played the U20 World Cup. Mackson Ojobo claims he was 12 when he won the Nigerian League with Ocean Boys in 2006. Twelve years old? Really? A regular player in the Nigerian League? Age cheat! These may not be all out proof but they are all symptoms of age cheating and the question on our lips should now be if there is a way out of this. The only way out is to go back to genuine school sports/ football in Nigeria. The average age to start secondary school in Nigeria is 10 and that means by the time you are in Senior Secondary School SS1 you could be between the ages of 13-16. Can the Nigeria Football Federation decide that only JSS3-SS3 students are eligible to play for the U16s? That way Nigerians can be sure they won’t have any one above 16, maybe 17, play for the U17 team. Can the NFF say that no Nigeria Premier League player should feature in the U20 team bearing in mind that with the way Nigeria’s football is run there is really no twenty year old playing in the Nigeria Premier League? Do Nigerians really want to change the trend? Does the Nigeria Football Federation want to change the trend? If they do, this could be a start. Nigeria has cheated for 26 years and it has hardly helped football in the country because there have been three wins at the U17 World Cup but it has never graduated to success at senior national team level. But one thing makes it seem that Nigeria/ Nigerians are not ready to stop cheating. When Adokiye Amiesimaka exposed the former captain of Nigeria’s U17 team in 2009, the widespread comments amongst Nigerians was, “Why is Amiesimaka trying to stop this boy’s chance of making money for himself?” An article I published five months ago ensured players like Mackson Ojobo and Gomo Onduku were dropped from the current U20 side. I spoke with Mackson Ojobo a few days ago and as soon as he knew I was the person on the other end he said, “I wonder why you are calling me now; you have done your worst.” He then hung up on me. If Nigerians do not change this attitude of elders trying to use U16 and U20 football to get into limelight, the fight against age cheating will fail. At the World Cup in Colombia, Nigeria bullied its way past Guatemala, Croatia and Saudi Arabia but as soon as we met opponents who knew how to play football, our strength and speed we used to overpower opponents because we were older could no longer help. The NFF must educate the public that every time an over age player wears our national jersey, we deprive the rightful owner of that jersey a chance to represent his country. Until then, this will certainly still be an exercise in futility. But do the NFF really want to stop age cheating? Still a matter of conjecture. http://dailytimes.com.ng/article/solution-age-cheating |

thegame: @vicjustice and other experienced nairalanders, I just want to ask to be sure after being redirected here.It is a requirement as an adult that you are employed or have an occupation with incomes. But yet, the visa officer has the power to make exceptions using his own initiative to determine your application especially (like in your case) as you claim to have a joint account with your mom who (you said) owns a business: what is important is to satisfy the VO that the money is available to you and that you have the power to use of it: it is also very important that you have something to return to Nigeria for. |

But i won't be surprised if they require you to provide the death cirtificate

I blew my chance. Five minutes to the end of the test, she said let's go back to the test centre and she directed me through a motor way, I messed up while trying to join the motor way and she had to apologise to the car behind me. At that instance, I knew I had failed. We arrived back at the test centre and she told me she is so sorry, that she really wanted me to pass but that was a serious fault. I got 1 serious fault and 5 minor faults. I am still so so depressed and can't help wishing I didnt make that silly mistake. I have booked the test again but what is the assurance I won't get a mean examiner
