Syncan: Frankly speaking, dear vickyO, If you trully want to know, even just for the sake of knowledge and not to convert, Catholics will gladly oblige you. However if you've already passed judgement on them and only have ridicule for their practices (despite not knowing why they do so), no need to ask.
Well, by answering me with appropriate scriptures, you'll prove my view wrong.

Christianity Etc › Re: Should Christians Celebrate Christmas? by vickyO(f): 10:18pm On Nov 21, 2013
This Enigma gives me joy. Nobody was able to counter his post successfully.

1)The Scripture says no one should judge us according to the days we keep. so if I decide to celebrate Christmas as a Christian, it ain't nobody's wahala.
Even if anyone decides to celebrate the day Jesus began his ministry or the day he overcame temptation, it isn't any one's business.

2)Who cares where it originated from? all I know is my motive behind celebrating on that day is pure. why? because I am celebrating the birth of Christ thereby evangelizing indirectly.....

3)And any Roman Catholic who isn't happy with Enigma's findings (the one that debunks the claim that Roman Catholic started Christmas), you can tell the Pope to change the date for una.

chukwudi44: Unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood, you will never have life in you~Jesus Christ.

My flesh is real food and my blood is real blood~Jesus christ

St ignatius of antioch one of the apostolic fathers. Was a direct successor of the apostles. He had the benefit of hearing directly from the apostles himself.his words echoes with the above words of Jesus Christ and the teachings of the holy Catholic church.I will rather go with them than abide with the teachings of Charles Russel
Oh really, why didn't the disciples cut the flesh of Jesus on the cross after he died or suck his dripping blood?
and even save some for later.............huhhuhhuh??

try69: You could not point out my lies, rather you are going back and forth your emptiness..that's what people that know nothing do. You don't even know bible history..you were only told there is a book called bible. Do you know there were books quoted in the bible that are not in the bible? I guess this is also new to you

I believe you couldn't even comprehend what enigma wrote there because he didn't drive you anywhere.. But anything anti-catholic is ok.. That's how I define hypocrisy

If working out your salvation means hypocrisy like you are doing in condeming what you do not understand, and without good inference, without thorough reason, without logical construct, without any rationality, then I can conclude that you lack the christ-likeness you proclaim..

I wonder how all the fires you have been calling have not burned up the catholics you call idol worshippers..

Funny people grin
1)If you say I'm empty when I say prove your doctrine, it shows what Christian you are.(you don't study the Bible)

2)Should I tell you some catholic stuff I think is cool? Making sure the Pope doesn't leave with anything the church gave him while he ruled, holding unto doctrines in oneness, and a little others.

3)Some Pentecostal beliefs are far fetched and you should have seen posts scrutinizing some of them on nairaland and I speak on them too.

4)The thread states the faults in some of your doctrines and I concurred with them. all you guys have to do is show us where and where in the scriptures that supports the doctrines listed not sprouting unnecessary talks and insults.

5)And no one calls fire to burn Catholics, well, none that I know of.

6)Ok, in the Gospels, Jesus told us to test every prophet and doctrines they teach by their fruits. do you know the Greek and Roman Catholics martyred thousands of Christianshuh the doctrine of praying to Mary makes you not to look only to Jesus as required of us by Christ himself. the prayers to the saints also. You make idols, which is forbidden. The truth is out there/here, blowing in the wind, dancing in the pages of the scriptures, the earlier you digest it, the better.

They claim they combined the Bible and are the first church yet they get carried away by traditions of men and fail to practice the doctrines written in the Bible. Jesus told us to pray to God in His (Jesus) name. that is the definition of prayer. He didn't say pray to Mary.....
Catholics, where did y'all get your doctrine of praying to Mary fromhuh The pope? the heathen? the Bible? Rome?

Alwaystrue:
Luke 4:17
And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written

Luke 24:45
44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.
45 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

What the early Christians had as written were the law of Moses, the prophets and the Psalms as seen in the quote above and this is what Jesus Christ, full of the Holy Spirit, drew His teaching from for He is the Word, opening the eyes of our underststanding to the deep mysteries and spirit of the laws to make us understand better the mind of God. This is what only Jesus and Holy Spirit can do...it is the same scripture.
One thing Jesus also said was that we should let His words abide in us. His words which He said are Life, Spirit, Light, Truth and Grace. The preaching of the life of Christ as said by the disciples I.e. The doctrines of Christ as well.

What happened after the death of Christ was the Chronicles of the Acts of the Apostles, the letters and epistles and the revelations as received by the Holy Spirit.
Holy Scriptures remain but if read wrongly will never profit the reader. Searching scriptures require eyes of our understanding being opened to understand the deep riches of God.

The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit agree, none contradict.
That is why Jesus said He did not come to abolish the law but fulfil it, that is give is full expression, meaning and life..

The bible is a collection of these books and letters. It documents the Word of God from the beginning to the end and it is the Word of God that we hear that brings us to Christ and gives us Faith. (Romans 10:14-15)
I always love when ^^^^^^^ comments....

try69: You have said nothing meaningful

Your problem is ignorance.. That was how a lady once asked me why I confess to God in the presence of a priest. I then asked her if she can get married without a pastor..she said NO, for what! Bla bla bla.. I told her to show me in the bible, she couldn't ..then I told her if marriage is so important that she would have to do it before a witness in the minister of God, then reconciling with God after I have sinned before a witness in the priest is of more importance to me..

You don't pay to think..it's free
He said meaningful things............. you guys don't follow the Bible traditions but that of your Popes. The example you gave doesn't relate to acidosis' post.
Acidosis: Funny how you always talk about the books removed bla bla bla..
Yet you haven't even practised one simple instruction from the same bible you "wrote"

I can imagine Satan (The one time greatest Chorister in Heaven), laughing at Don Moen and other worthy gospel singers, saying; "see them, singing as if they know how to sing.. I, who sang with various string instruments from my Crown to my feet in Heaven.. I am the father of songs, therefore, I am the father of gospel songs, I am the first singer, no one else..

Boomark: Don't you know there are 3 levels of heavens?

When God created heaven and earth, where was He?
When heaven and earth will pass away, where will He be?
His throne is established in the heavens and "i saw a new heaven and a new earth depending from the throne of God." did His throne pass away too?
When Paul said a man was caught up in the third heaven, 2Cor 12:2, did that not give you a clew?
When Jesus said no one has ascended into heaven, did you not believe him or you think Elijah went to where the Father is?

Go and read. Don't you see you are over-labouring her with unnecessary questions.

try69: The same word you call the bible was cannonised amongst many writings by the same catholic church you are taking and wasting your time to castigate.. Do you know there where many scriptures that were withdrawn from the bible you have today? Do you know the father of protesters in which you belong removed 7 books from the bible? That he wanted to remove the book of james and revelations but even his follower didn't succumb to that? That the 66 books you carry today is short of the same book you call the bible in whole? That 6 denotes incompleteness from bible and 7 (73) means completeness? Even 3 is unique for completeness I.e the trinity? That most of what you do in christianity was passed down to you by the same catholic church? where is it in the bible that marriages be performed in church? Have u ever wondered how it started

I BEG YOU IN THE NAME OF GOD, PLEASE MIND. YOUR BUSINESS AND LET CATHOLICS BE, YOU CAN'T DO NOTHING TO CHRIST's CHURCH

If you think because u know too much, what have being practised for almost 2,000 years and still being practised is for you to correct, then I don't see how you are different from the pharisees christ talked about in his time here on earth.. I repeat "YOU KNOW NOTHING" but the devil is using you to fight the church of christ in your foolishness.
Blah blah blah.... the scriptures I quoted on proving, aren't they in your so called Catholic Bibles? You must prove all things.... Why are you scared of proving the Catholic doctrines? I guess you already know the truth but you just don't want it to set you free.
And to pinpoint your level of ignorance, the Church of Christ isn't denomination but Christians. Until you see yourself as the temple of Christ, you will forever be imprisoned by the chains of doctrines imposed on you by your so called infallible leaders. Work out your salvation, prove all doctrines, sift it and digest the good ones, open your mind of knowledge and embrace knowledge before you perish for the lack of it.

Enigma: Roman Catholics are lying when they say Luther or "Protestants" removed 7 books from the Bible!

Here are just a few Roman Catholics who also "removed" the same 7 books from the Bible

Jerome, Erasmus, "pope" Gregory I, "Cardinal Cajetan (the same Luther's opponent)

Oh, meanwhile the Roman Catholics only voted to add the 7 books in 1546 by: 25 for, 15 against and 16 abstained --- they couldn't even get a clear majority! wink

Oh, and here is something from the Roman Catholic organisation's own encyclopaedia http://www.newadvent.org/fathers/2711.htm lol grin

"38. But it should be known that there are also other books which our fathers call not "Canonical" but "Ecclesiastical:" that is to say, Wisdom, called the Wisdom of Solomon, and another Wisdom, called the Wisdom of the Son of Syrach, which last-mentioned the Latins called by the general title Ecclesiasticus, designating not the author of the book, but the character of the writing. To the same class belong the Book of Tobit, and the Book of Judith, and the Books of the Maccabees. In the New Testament the little book which is called the Book of the Pastor of Hermas, [and that] which is called The Two Ways, or the Judgment of Peter; all of which they would have read in the Churches, but not appealed to for the confirmation of doctrine. The other writings they have named "Apocrypha." These they would not have read in the Churches.

These are the traditions which the Fathers have handed down to us, which, as I said, I have thought it opportune to set forth in this place, for the instruction of those who are being taught the first elements of the Church and of the Faith, that they may know from what fountains of the Word of God their draughts must be taken.
"

The Roman Catholic Bible of 25 for, 15 against and 16 abstained is even contrary to tradition. smiley

cool
No catholic has condemned this fact. Now we know you guys are the hypocrites.

Sal C: Yes op you are on point.

Many people think it takes just carrying the bible for one to be a christian.

No, being a christian entails living a christ-like life.

Since the early christians were christians without the bible, then it doesn't take the bible to be a christian.
The Bible helps you in your walk with God. it's not about carrying it all around, but by studying it daily.
the early Christians studied the scriptures o.
Paul and Peter quoted from it in the book of Acts.
Jesus quoted from it.
Phillip explained it to the Ethiopian Eunuch.

italo: The people who were converted at Pentecost...

1. When did they become Christians, before reading the Bible or not?
Don't misunderstand me. You become a Christian only when you accept Christ not when you read the Bible.
but how do we come to the knowledge of Christ? through the Bible.
How do we feed our soul with the word of God and thereby increase our faith? by reading the bible
How did Jesus overcome temptation? by quoting from the scriptures
How did Paul and Peter know about the prophecies? they read the scriptures
As Christian, we should know the Bible is the written word of God
vickyO: II Timothy 3: 16
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness..
and just as we should get acquainted with Christ, the living word, we must also get acquainted with the written word. If not we won't be fully aware of the basic doctrines of Christianity.
And how did we overcome the devil? By the word of the lamb and our testimonies.
It is necessary for us as Christians to study the Bible. God speaks to us through it.

POPE II: I guess implying that I'm animal is a not an insult on your book, anyway I don't owe you any apology.,

I have never seen you condemning your brothers here when they rain insults and abuses on our holy Mother which means you agree with them , in fact most of the time you are seconding their comments ,it tells a lot about you, you find nothing wrong with people insulting the Mother of your God but get angry when I say people/children will abuse you because you are not their biological mother, Abeg say amen that's all . Who do you think you are before Mary? You are a nonentity and I'm only serving you your own medicine. If you think Mary shouldn't be honoured then you worth nothing and people shouldn't respect you .

Quote someone who insulted Mary and quote any post of mine where I seconded any comment of that nature.

Matthew 12:50
For whosoever shall do the will of my father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister and mother.
Do y'all want to argue with him? He never called Mary his mother when speaking. why? cause he was trying to discourage what peeps like the catholics are doing today

2)As Christians the only channel of prayer is
God-Jesus-man
not
God-Jesus-Mary-Saints-Man.
He is the only mediator between God and man.

3)You keep Adopting the heathen style of worship instead of worshipping in spirit and in truth, repeating prayers like the heathens do, using images, candles, bowing the statue of Mary and praying to her, calling the Pope infallible and thereby being deceived by his words, Looking up to the saints and Mary instead of looking up to Christ alone, dwelling more on religion than on Christ.

Follow the things that make peace and edify others instead of making a hobby of meats, drinks, Sabbaths, circumcision, law keeping, rituals, dress styles, ornaments, customs, and outward religion- things which in themselves do not destroy the work of God, and concerning all things which all men will never perfectly agree. Romans 14:19-20, I Cor. 8:7-13, I Cor. 10:23-31
Romans 14:22 tells us not to condemn ourselves over anything not specifically forbidden in the scriptures by plain command. and not to permit our consciences to be swayed by wrong religious backgrounds or constant religious turmoil over doubtful things.
and lastly
Romans 14: 23 tells us not to do anything that is doubtful. If you are not clear on a matter, proceed no further.

I am clear on the issue of adornments. and I believe it doesn't contradict the scripture so let us be. Save your massage for folks with like minds.
