Afam:
1. Saro Wiwa may be a hero to you but he is not a hero to countless Igbos he spearheaded the seizure of their properties and termed them abandoned properties.

2. Abacha single handedly increased the oil derivation from 3% to 13% and not a single % was added to it in 10 years after his death.

3. No one has painted him a saint and no one can do so because he is not one.

4. What he did in Liberia may not be appreciated by you but millions of Liberians appreciated what he did.

5. Not all Nigerians rejoiced at his death, stop spreading such lies.
Due to the highlighted above, dear Nairalanders, i present to you the best leader we ever had!
I bet everyone is having a rethink already and we should probably declare a Public Holiday to celebrate a true Hero, who "single handedly" increased oil derivation from 3% to 13%.
I sincerely hope Nigerians will forget about
---Human rights that were violated, the brunt and pains of military boots, Journalists that were jailed for no just reasons and some others that were killed, Assassination of Kudirat Abiola, Injustice that went unchallenged, Billions that were stolen, i sincerely hope Nigerians will forget this and many more after all, he increased oil derivation!

Not only Dirty Stinking Hausa/Fulani North are Corrupt, Yorubas Studied how to be Corrupt from the Womb of their Mothers. They knew Corruption before birth, That's why they are perfect in it.
Isn't it high time we stopped attributing corruption to a particular sect or tribe? why dont you go ahead and tell me which tribe hasn't produced a corrupt leader in History, and i will give you a list that will take you another 10 years to read through

No doubt he'll go in record as one of our worst ever leaders. But do you know that many people who ruled with him are still in power in one form or the other ?
Secondly don't pin crimes he didn't commit on him. That'd be like blaming Hitler for Americas racial problems in the 60s . He was terrible no doubt but his death did not end evil and corrupt people/leadership in Nigeria cos it's still going on in gargantuan proportions as we speak.
Ooops! who then shall i pin those un forgivable crimes on? Yes, Ribadu or Sanusi will do

I maintain that the dude doesn't deserve to be painted in any slight shade of white, his regime was radical and totally corrupt, lets not try to re write History.
Politics › Re: Abacha’s Was Best Govt Nigeria Had – Arthur Eze by violent(m): 9:22pm On Dec 23, 2009
The fact that people are so fast to throw the pains of History into the nearest dustbin is totally disgusting, to even think anyone for that matter will try to paint the Abacha name in White makes me cringe to my marrows.
Generations unborn will never forget the man who brought us to where we are, stories about Ken Saro-Wiwa who was innocently killed and thousands of others whose Human rights were totally abused in the full glare of the whole world will never be forgotten, go ahead and tell their families Abacha was the second nicest thing after Peanut butter.
Google up the name and you will find articles tagging the late mudafuka has the fourth most corrupt leader in History, he sent troops to liberia to restore democracy while it was denied at home, do we even need to talk about the fact that the entire Nigerian populace rejoiced over his fortunate death?
In as much as i agree with the fact that the current civilian rule is a disappointment, but coming here to declare Abacha a saint is an insult to the entire Nigerian populace and even generations unborn lipsrsealed

Sisi Kill is right, your wife is unfortunate to have gotten herself an illiterate husband who reads her text an brings em to nairaland for Interpretation.
lol. . i didnt say nigeria is perfect. . but if we are talking size of economy and economic growth,then it will overtake south africa in some 5yrs or thereabouts

for example south african growth is negative 2% thats(-2%) for this yr 2009
while nigeria is 6%+

heres a link to both countrys GDP below. . .and i threw in ghana for good measure lol
http://www.google.com/publicdata?ds=wb-wdi&met=ny_gdp_mktp_cd&idim=country:NGA:ZAF:GHA&tstart=-315619200000&tunit=Y&tlen=48

note that if nigeria grows at 7% compounded for the next 5yrs
and south africa grows at 2% we overtake them as the largest economy in africa in 5yrs or so. . .if not then by 2020 for sure
Well, the question is can we guarantee a continuous growth of 7 percent in the economy over the next five years?
The economy can't be described as an expansionary one, coupled with the recent huge losses reported by the banks and subsequent mass loss of jobs. If banks refuse to give out loans in order to shore up capital, and they decide to pay low interest on savings and deposits, companies don't have enough funds to expand, shareholder's trust is diminished, and many would rather lock up their funds in a fixed deposit account than investing in either bonds or equities, how then are we set to achieve a continuous 7 percent growth over the next 5 years?
South Africa on the other hand with its recent BBB+ fitch rating, prudent fiscal and monetary policy, reduction of interest rates to about 450 basis point and smooth transmission of political process have weathered the crisis very well and although with a 2 percent drop in GDP are projected to perform better than Nigeria and Egypt by 2011
P.S : I am not trying to be pessimistic, i only write based on my understanding of recent economic events
yea 6% this yr, . .average of 6%- 8% since 2002. .

for him who said it will take 100yrs to catch south africa. . please go get educated. .south africa shrank by 2% this yr

and we will get larger than them sometime in the next 5yrs. . .
Are you sure about this sir? Have u put into consideration other economic indicators which shows that the Nigeria is headed for a likely decline in the next decade? The unemployment rate has risen in recent months along with soaring population growth, credit intermediation has suffered a backward trend which is not likely to improve anytime soon, the consequences of this of course will be a drop in investment rates, a nose dive drop in consumer confidence levels, constant poor results from investment in equity markets and generally a lagging economy {which has always been the case anyway}
And to add to the burden, the political system is higly fragile, having been ridiculed with elements of God fatherism, the president isn't even around to monitor the state of the economy {my apologies, he does so from a sick bed hundreds of miles away}, the educational sector keeps producing highly unemployable graduates { which of course will have a terrible detrimental effect in the nearest decade}, and the power sector? {let's not even go there}

Along with all these do you really believe that we are set to catch up with South Africa in the next 5 years? i will rather believe that the temperature in Finland in 45 degree cent.

250 million shocked on a car? u drive it in lagos and u get bashed by a danfo, what then? i bet u can't even find the spare parts and if you do, the cost of obtaining them will be enough to buy an island.
Lets say the guy who {owns the mac in the above post} decide to obtain the new 2010 mercedes E350 for 16 million naira, {a lot of money still, but trust me, the car is finer and more comfortable} and lets say he buys a 40 million naira house, if he decides to spend 1 million each of the remainder to improve another person's life, 194 people's life will be better because of him, and his name will never be forgotten in worlds to come,  but the slowpoke will rather buy a mac {something not appropriate for naija roads to begin with}

In our dear country, you can eat your cake and have it, and still sell the same cake to your neighbor and guess what, you don't have to worry about it, Ribadu can be blamed!
Nigeria sounds like a fairy tale, a country where the president's state of health is kept secret from the masses, a country where you can obtain billions of loans without collateral, a country where you can buy the entire Police force and the judiciary if you have the money, steal a million and you are a thief, steal hundreds of billions and "kini big deal"? afterall, its Ribadu's fault
A fairy tale! undecided

Alao Akala will come out tops by any yardstick, he outranks OGD as the worst governor, at least OGD can speak in good English and he does have tangible records of past achievement in his first tenure in Ogun, Alao on the other hand lacks every single word that could be used to describe credibility, all he does his bleach his skin like an idiot and attend Owambe parties.
