justmondris:How is it that you guys are all missing the point? £10 spent in the original post is earned PER HOUR in UK. Which is minimum wage here that is being reviewed upwards in January 2024 across the country. Not per month. Average weekly hours is between 16hrs and 40hrs. For those earning minimum wage, calculate it. N30k monthly minimum wage in Naija and u take out 12k to buy an almost empty trolley of food, no be die be that? That's the point here. |
VeeVeeMyLuv:Omo! That bad Its not as if I have been away long o. I hear stories but what you have typed is unfortunate. Sorry about that. Just have hope.... |
Tohsynetita1:You can download it from their app and use the QR code or barcode with your phone each time at the till. some stores like Coop and Tesco also send you the cards, like debit cards via royal mail to your home so u can also swipe it. With it, you get discounts and loyalty points whenever you shop be it self service or with customer service assistants. Most of the major discounters do it. |
sukkot:I am not in London though. Somewhere in UK. Naturally, you have to enjoy it, grumbling everyday will give a person heart problems and una politicians will be glowing up dey go. Nigeria go better sha. Cheers |
money121:If you really meant original phone number, then my glo is since 2005. But I changed to Nano sim cos of a new phone in 2018 while retaining same phone number |
sukkot:Not everyone sold landed properties. Most just sold household items. Again, this amount is mostly for new Masters grad students not experienced Hires. Check Indeed for yourself. Most that entered School, how many had own properties back in naija? Na beans? |
sukkot:That's for barest minimum start on average which is far higher than £22k average for other areas around the country. My assessment is quite correct. Also I have seen starting jobs where employers advertise to pay a lump sum of about £2k addition to help with moving costs to London. Network Rail that came to one Uni was offering £2.5k for 2.1 and 1st class grads. Most of those kind of people will rent house shares or studios way less than that and share bills. I have explained before that Water, electricity etc are all about £300 total. TV license is nothing and nit everyone pays. I have never. Phone bills if you want to go Boougie is about £25/ month. Council tax btw £150 / £200. I do £5 phone as there is free WiFi everywhere. All those that are doing it, how many wash in a "library" My brother, rest. I live here and I am telling you facts not going by assumptions of what I think I know from Nigeria. |
sukkot:Bro, my rent was N550k per year at OPIC estate outside Lagos o. And then drive through that horrible traffic into the expressway daily to work. And that was because we formed bond with the landlord. The minute we told our landlord we were leaving, I got him a new tenant I met here on nairaland. Landlord jacked the rent for the guy to N1mn - 3 bed flat. The guy was telling me via WhatsApp. I swear! They finally agreed on N850k. Same compound, we pumped our water - which was basically clay and spend N4k to buy chemicals plus a small bag of alum every month to throw inside the tank on every pump. I kid you not. My phcn bill with prepaid meter was N22k / month excluding previous gbese that accumulated after we paid for meter and they were still sending us inflated bills and this was then o. With some SERIOUS rationing. I swich off fridge and completely offloaded my freezer when I go to work. So I was paying crazy in naija for utilities I didn't even enjoy or had to provide for myself. let's not even talk of medicines when ill. The bills are NOT crazy at all like you guys think else, why do people stay? As for your London comment earlier, Londoners pay the highest percentile in rent truly but also earn the highest percentile in income averaging £28k to the high £60Ks. Trust me, my naija secondary school friend who lives there, it's chicken change compared to her net pay at month end o. If you have a partner, it's even better cos u share bills for a single hhousehold.I repeat, its not as crazy as you think and u can save quite well in such a short time too. |
Panda7:I shop in Lidl and what was posted by OP is true o. Only thing i dont buy is the chicken and onions as I get them from proper Al-Halal shops run by Arabs which are cheaper. The spaghetti I bought last (May 2023) - I got 6 packs and paid 0.30p each then so e don even cost. Pls just go to Lidl store online on Google and check for yourself. I have attached straight from their app for you to comfirm and these are their current leaflet. The best part is that when you have a clubcard (loyalty card which is free), you even get some discount more at the till! Not everything that seems too good to be true to you, is now a blatant lie. sukkot:But are you earning that every HOUR? This analysis is easy to grasp bro. In UK, that's lower than minimum wage per hour. And most work between 20 to 40 hours per week. Now please, do the math. I think that's what the OP has been trying to state.

femi4:Actually, that is not totally true o. I didn't pay Council tax for my entire first year as I was exempt. Now I pay £100 / month which is shared between my partner and I as we both work. Around London, council tax is higher usually around £150 to £200 per household and they earn the highest so that's child's play to them. Gas, electric bills? Lol, are NOT expensive at all. All Is paid in my current rent for e.g. - gas, electric, garbage, WiFi and even cleaning less than £700 a month. We only pay £5 for the washer and dryer per laundry day and they are so huge, u can pack 2 weeks worth of laundry sef and spend that every 2 weeks. For households bringing in an average of £4k monthly after tax, that's nothing na. TV license isn't compulsory as we haven't paid that at all. My best friend and her hubby pay £7 monthly. Very reasonable. Case in point, a place called Leamington Spa which is viewed as expensive for a suburb in West Midlands, all bills is less than £300 per household. Most water bills dont go above £15 sef. And such people renting there (upper middle whites) earn between £30k and £60k annually on average, again very affordable for them. Brand new clothes, bags, shoes and electronics are also not crazy at all. The shopping centres are always packed full with people shopping like crazy. Trust me, these people love their fashion...and pets! Remember most produce locally. Trust me, you can save real good here within 3 months even on a starter graduate salary of £22k annually. fastseo:Bless you! Most don't believe it. Sometimes,I think some Nigerians over hype these things so folks back home don't ask them for money or are just being wicked so they don't join them. Until I came, a close fam that was lamenting since, I just found out owns 2 homes. One completely mortgage free. |
Angelfrost:God bless you! I recall shortly before my plane took off and I had to put my phones on Aeroplane mode, I called my 3 closest friends from Uni days and told them. One was annoyed sha, a bit understandably. Kept it to only very few fam members. Its even WhatsApp that casted me more when I changed sim months after. Learn to succeed in private o! |
Ahmed0336:No vex, what happened in Owerri bike? |
Very Good interception. Kudos to them. Btw, Some of these corrupt souls will think it's another kinda of banana 🍌 🙄. Thank God all of us at MANNA are no longer in the world....
Childish talk as usual |
OkpaNsukkaisBae:I am honestly still in shock. They purportedly have one of the most sophisticated and expensive underground Intel network in the world. How the attacks failed to reach their Intel units is still baffling. The Islreali defense minister has a case to answer as well imo. Baffling! |
Kobicove:I don't think it's the regular Xmas type fireworks. I belive it's those colored indoor fireworks that they use here in Nigerian weddings too. The ones that shoot from the ground and can reach up to 10feet even. Some have smaller types they put on Champhage bottles and cakes used in nightclubs. When I read the story earlier on cnn this morning, they mentioned the cheap type of roofing and building bond materials used in the building which are highly flammable. It's a shame really, all the needless deaths at a time of celebration. |
Treasure17:Exactly what was on my mind when I saw Nursing ![]() |
Dreamhighnow:Exactly. Putin that doesn't even have the liver to travel out of Russia. Even to SA, his supposed ally, he had to beam in for all the meetings. |
DenreleDave:You should have written sports personalities. Aren't athletes only the ones engaged in the field of athletics proper? Like Sha'Carri Richardson and Bolt for example? |
oluwaseyi0:I studied Economics and this was the first thing that came to my mind. Now, I am confused. The policy seems to be coming at the wrong time. |
ghettowriter:Omo! FireUpNow:I am unsure the Coalition has enough resources- manpower, ammo, other military hardware and funds to coordinate 2 interventions simultaneously. Niger would be laughing now. |
Eriokanmi:Dr. Pepper is sold in packs and single cans in the UK as we speak. Any COOP food and Mom n Pop store sells it. tonyshine01:This was a soda too ![]() |
Racoon:Singapore is NOT classified as a third world country, bro. |
Nigeria's former oil minister Diezani Alison-Madueke has been charged with bribery offences in the UK. She is suspected of accepting financial rewards for awarding multi-million dollar oil and gas contracts. A key figure in ex-President Goodluck Jonathan's administration, she also served as the first female president of the oil exporters group Opec. The 63-year-old, who has been on bail since her arrest in London in 2015, has denied corruption allegations. Assets worth millions of pounds relating to the alleged offences have been frozen as part of an ongoing probe by the UK's National Crime Agency (NCA). "These charges are a milestone in what has been a thorough and complex international investigation," Andy Kelly, from the NCA's International Corruption Unit, said. The NCA says Ms Alison-Madueke, who served as oil minister from 2010 until 2015, is alleged to have benefited from: At least £100,000 ($127,000) in cash Chauffeur-driven cars Flights on private jets Luxury family holidays Use of multiple London properties Furniture, renovation work and staff for the properties Payment of private school fees Gifts from designer shops such as Cartier jewellery and Louis Vuitton goods. The US Department of Justice has been able to recover assets totalling $53.1m linked to Ms Alison-Madueke's alleged corruption thanks to evidence provided by the NCA in March, the agency says. The NCA added that its agents had also worked closely with Nigeria's anti-corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Ms Alison-Madueke, who currently lives in London's St John's Wood suburb, will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on 2 October, the NCA says. Nigeria is one of the world's largest oil producers, but few of its more than 225 million inhabitants have benefited from this wealth. source: BBC news https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-66582585.amp

datola:NET salary bro. |
Fineman2:I am honestly really sorry for you and I say that without an ounce of sarcasm. The mere fact that you are here pondering between your own flesh and blood and a heartless sadist of a wife evokes such sympathy. |
huptin:Check out the story of retired US basket baller Stephen Jackson. This one is even small. I read the story on Twitter this morning. Bro is now my newest legend! |
insidelife22:I had erroneously gone with the flow of the media when they dubbed him "the dancing governor" a while back. I was irritated that I didn't hear much concerning his manifesto during his campaign and couldn't understand why anyone would vote him in. I was wrong. This man is clearly working. I am glad I was probed wrong and the people of Osun are reaping some dividends from his appointment. |
