Steve H Hanke, an American applied economist at John Hopkins University, Baltimore, United States, has taken a swipe at the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration as Nigerians continue to witness an upsurge in insecurity issues across the country.

Hanke, who is one of the Buhari-led administration’s critics, said this in a reaction to the recent attack on a Nigeria Air Force jet by bandits.

DAILY POST reported that Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha jet that flew out of base for an assault on Sunday, crashed.

It was gathered that the aircraft crashed in Kaduna during an operation after it was attacked by bandits but no casualty was reported.

Reacting, Hanke in a tweet via his Twitter account on Thursday slammed Buhari for allowing bandits to keep terrorizing Nigerian citizens under his watch.

Electoral Act: Process For 2023 Rigging Has Just Started, Says INC President


P/HARCOURT – The process for the rigging of the 2013 general elections has just started in view of the decision of the majority of members of the Senate who voted against the electronic transmission of election re­sults as envisaged by millions of Nigerians.

Expressing fears for possi­ble rigging in future elections, the President of Ijaw Nation­al Congress, INC, Prof Ben­jamin Okans said with the actions of members of the National Assembly who voted against the Act, “the process for the rigging of 2023 elec­tions has just started”.

Professor Okans believes that only credible elections can bring credible leader­ship in Nigeria, adding that the country is blessed with abundant human and ma­terial resources. “What we need as a people is a good leadership that can harness these resources. But one is worried about the actions of members of the National Assembly.

“We cannot at this point be­gin to blame a particular par­ty or region in this case. The issue of people clamoring for a President of this region or that region is because of our inability to have a leader that sees the whole country as his constituency”, he said.

The INC President not­ed that the Ijaw group had paved the way in electronic transmission of election re­sults which it adopted in the last election of the Congress. “INC recently conducted an e-election and the results were transmitted online. Ijaw peo­ple in all parts of the world were able to see the results as soon as elections were con­cluded”.

He said that over the years, Nigeria has had election that has been corruption-driven were soldiers and other se­curity agents have been de­ployed to guide the process. “Both security agents and civilians have been killed severally in the course of our elections. This is not the way to go. With electronic voting and electronic transmission of results, we will then begin to see real credible process”, he said.

Professor Okans believes that it is still possible for the National Assembly to have a rethink about the Act and en­sure that it reflects the will of millions of Nigerians who are desirous of seeing a change in the electoral process, adding that this could still be done before the 2023 elections.

Just last week, majority of the Senators particularly from the ruling All Progres­sives Congress, APC, voted against the popular demand of Nigerians to have results of elections transmitted elec­tronically starting with the 2023 elections.

President Muhammadu Buhari says he's shocked by the latest crash of an aircraft of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

An Alpha Jet aircraft returning from a bombing mission between the boundaries of Zamfara and Kaduna States was shot down by terrorists on Sunday, July 18, 2021.

Flight Lieutenant Abayomi Dairo who flew the jet ejected before the crash and was successfully rescued from a settlement he sought refuge.



Buhari applauded his gallantry in a statement released on Tuesday, July 20.

"I was shocked by the devastating news of the air crash but felt much relieved, following the successful ejection by the pilot and his eventual rescue.

"May the injured pilot recover at the earliest time," he said.

The president said he was pained by the crash, the fourth loss of a military plane since February.

Seven personnel were killed when a fighter jet crashed in Abuja on February 21, 2021 after reporting engine failure, and another one that went missing, with two personnel on board, on March 31 has been presumed to have crashed.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, and 10 other military personnel also died in a crash in Kaduna in May.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday trekked to his residence after observing Eid el-Kabir prayer at the Daura Eid ground in Katsina State.

In a video shared by his Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, President Buhari was seen trekking for a distance with other top officers.

Crowds were also seen hailing the president as he moved to his residence in his hometown.

Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has been reportedly arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic by security operatives in the West African country.

Igboho was said to been arrested Monday night after fleeing Nigeria to evade arrest by Nigeria’s secret police.

According to report, a source privy to his departure from Nigeria said he had perfected plans to secretly escape from Nigeria through Cotonou and was heading to Germany.

He was, however, nabbed by security operatives in the neighboring country.



Another source who is privy to the incident, said: “Sunday Igboho has been arrested in Cotonou. He was arrested about an hour ago.”

“He was supposed to travel to Germany through Cotonou this night. He wanted to leave Africa through Cotonou. He was arrested by security operatives in Cotonou.”

“They are planning to bring him back to Nigeria.”

It would be recalled that the Department of State Services had declared Igboho wanted after its operatives carried out a bloody midnight raid on his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Soldiers have reportedly killed seven people in at the Dangote Sugar Company, in Gyawana, Adamawa State owned by Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote.

It was gathered that soldiers opened fire on protesting workers around 5pm on Thursday. The facility situated not too far from the state Capital, Yola, was embroiled in tension as workers protested before the soldiers were deployed to the scene.

Flood submerges graveyard, exposes corpses in Senate President's home town

Flood caused by a heavy downpour has submerged a graveyard in Gashu’a town, the headquarters of Bade local government area of Yobe State.

The heavy rainfall, which lasted for several hours, was said to have started in the late hours of Sunday and spanned through the early hours of Monday.

DAILY POST learnt that the flood, which led to the washing away of many graves, also exposed some corpses.

A concerned citizen in the area, who identified himself as Alhaji Abba, said the whole town was bewildered with the disturbing development.

“What we saw here at our graveyard is shocking and disturbing as flood has completely taken over the yard. Corpses were exposed, hence making it extremely difficult to bury new bodies.

“We are appealing to the government and well meaning individuals to respond immediately. This place belongs to everyone, because sooner or later it is going to be the final destination for everyone”, he said.

Reacting to the development, the Executive Secretary Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA), Dr. Mohammed Goje, who confirmed the incident, said his agency had made all necessary arrangements with a view to rehabilitating the graveyard.

“We are going to provide cement, blocks, sand and other logistics for the rehabilitation work to commence at the graveyard”, he said.

Located near a low-cost housing estate, the graveyard is believed to be one of the biggest in the ancient town where remains are being committed to mother earth.

Perennial flooding is one of the environmental challenges bedeviling Gashu’a, a semi-urban community located at the northern part of Yobe State.

The Senate has rejected Lauretta Onochie as a National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Onochie was rejected following the consideration of the report of the Committee on INEC, chaired by Senator Kabiru Gaya (APC, Kano).

The Senate also stood down the approval of Professor Sani Mohammed Adam till further legislative action.

The panel recommended Onochie’s disqualification as INEC National Commissioner because her nomination is in violation of Section 14 (3) of the 1999 Constitution on the Principle of Federal Character.

The committee said there is currently a serving commissioner from Delta state, where Onochie hails from.

The church asked all first-timers to come out for prayers. The patriotic citizens obeyed the clarion call from the altar with their fully displayed BuhariMustGo shirts.
Some security guards attached to the Dunamis International Gospel Centre (Glory Dome) located along Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Road, Abuja have arrested six human rights activists for wearing #BuhariMustGo (Anti-President Muhammadu Buhari) T-Shirts to the church.

About ten activists went to the church on Sunday morning to worship at the church but some of them were surprisingly rounded up and arrested by the church security guards who later handed them over to the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).


Six of the activists were whisked away in a Hilux van and two power bikes.

The activists were manhandled and beaten by the DSS operatives on the church premises, who also seized their mobile phones.



Paul Enenche is the Senior Pastor of the church.

A source said, "Security men at Dunamis Gospel Church have arrested activists who wore #BuhariMustGo T-shirts to their church service: the church security later handed them over to DSS officials who are currently torturing them.

"I thought Pastor Dr Paul Enenche was also preaching about justice! The six activists were driven away in a DSS Hilux van and two power bikes. Shame on the house of God!

"About 10 activists decided to attend Dunamis church in their #BuhariMustGo T-shirts. The church asked all first-timers to come out for prayers. The patriotic citizens obeyed the clarion call from the altar with their fully displayed BuhariMustGo shirts.

"They were immediately apprehended by the church security on their way out of the church and subsequently handed to the DSS. Kudos to the courageous activists for this creativity. I'm certain if the activists had worn a shirt with the inscription 'Sai Buhari', they would have ranked as Pastor Enenche's new best friend."

Similarly, in April, violent youths descended on two middle-aged protesters– Larry Emmanuel and Anene Victor Udoka–who were pasting Buhari-Must-Go posters in Lokoja, the Kogi to State capital.

SaharaReporters learnt that the irate mob flogged the two youths, filmed them, and brutalised them before they were later handed over to the police.

It was gathered that the police thereafter quizzed the two protesters and detained them when they insisted on seeing their lawyer before making a statement.

In some viral videos, the protesters were seen being molested and questioned by the mob before they were flogged as the youths forced them to clean their painting of “Buhari Must Go".

The court, last Thursday, resumed trial of the two activists after being granted bail after spending 78 days in detention.

Prophet Joshua Iginla, founder, Champions International Ministry, has raised an alarm over a plot to frame him up for kidnap and murder.

Iginla alleged that the plot by some very powerful men of God was aimed at sending him to jail.

The cleric disclosed that the powerful syndicate being sponsored by high ranking pastors colluded with some ex-staff of his ministry who were sacked “over gross misconduct to rope him with kidnapping and murder of two kids and two women.”

Addressing members of his church, the prophet disclosed that “the cartel hatched the plan to kidnap two kids from the church’s children’s department, kill them, and bury them behind the bush in the church, Champions Royal Assembly at Kubwa, Abuja.”

Iginla narrated the plot: “After the parents of the missing children have reported the missing kids, a lady will be killed too and her friend who allegedly had been paid too would report to the police claiming her late friend’s last port of call was Iginla’s church.

“Two days after the report, another lady on their payroll would post her encounter on social media claiming Iginla threatened to kill her if she didn’t keep the secret to herself. Sadly, unknown to her too, another person had been paid by the cartel to kill her to make it look like Iginla did that as claimed by her.

“This would draw the attention of the police to Champions Royal Assembly where a witness in their payroll would attest to it that he had seen the missing kids in the church before and would lead them to where the kids were buried behind the church.

“The plot by the carted is aimed at implicating me with kidnap and multiple murders. These plots, according to them, would lead to me being jailed and the closure of my ministry.”

Iginla said the plot was disclosed by a newly employed staff of his ministry.

The prophet said the staff was asked to testify against him when the plot was executed.

He added: “These wicked ploys were exposed by one of the newly employed staff of the ministry which the cartel approached to witness against Iginla when their plots are fully hatched.

“In a series of chats made available to us, one of the arrowheads of the cartel with a pseudo name called Ebuka Kent approached the young staff who was just employed a month ago to work for them for N7 million with the promise of flying him to the country of his choice once the deed was done and also pledged to place his parents on a monthly salary of N200,000.

“Ebuka initially lured the lad with a mouth-watering offer of N3m as initial payment and a stay in any country of bis choice by their sponsor. The young boy, thinking it was a drug business, kindly turned down the offer. After much Cajoling, Ebuka opened up to him about the plot by the cartel to frame me up.

“The frightened boy who is just 19 years old, sent me an SMS requesting help. I called the boy through my PA to see me in my office and that was when he disclosed the whole saga to him with the evidence of their chats.

“After consultations with a certain senior police officer in Abuja, the lad was advised to play along with them and he called to agree that he was ready to be part of the cartel but insisted on nothing less than seven million to carry out their wicked ploy. Ebuka agreed immediately but blocked the lad immediately he requested an initial deposit in cash and not transfer.”

Iginla expressed sadness over the evils being perpetrated on the altar.

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested a Nigerian woman based in Brazil, Mrs. Anita Ugochinyere Ogbonna, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, NAIA, Abuja, with 100 pellets of cocaine concealed in her private part and handbag.

NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, July 4, said the mother of three was arrested on arrival in Abuja via Qatar Air from Sao Paulo, Brazil through Doha on Friday night, July 2.

"The suspect was arrested on Friday night on arrival in Abuja via Qatar Air from Sao Paulo, Brazil through Doha. Upon a proper search, 12 wraps of cocaine inserted in her private part were extracted while another 88 pellets stuffed in socks were discovered hidden in her handbag," Babafemi stated.




"During interrogation, Mrs. Ogbonna, who is a mother of three children, all resident in Brazil, claimed she lost her husband three years ago. She confessed she decided to traffick the illicit drug to raise money for the burial of her father scheduled for 22nd July in Imo state,"



"She said one Emeka, alias KC also based in Brazil gave her the drug to deliver in Nigeria for a fee of $3,000. She said she pushed the wraps of cocaine into her private part after her attempts to swallow the pellets failed. The suspect who owns a shop where she sells African foodstuffs in Brazil further claimed she had to drop her three young children with a Kenyan lady who is her neighbour in Brazil before she embarked on the quick-money-journey." he added. Lai Mohammed draws battle line with Gov AbdulRazaq, says Kwara entered ‘Once Chance’

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has denied diverting the 2019 APC general elections campaign funds in Kwara, saying that he single-handedly raised all the funds for the prosecution of the elections in the state.

He labelled added that Kwara entered a one-chance bus by voting Gov. Abdulrazaq as their governor.

Responding to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s recent allegation that some cabals within the party received hundreds of millions of naira as donations for the Kwara struggle from far and wide and did not deliver a kobo to him, the minister denied the allegations.




Speaking in Ilorin on Saturday while addressing party members at the new state APC party secretariat in GRA of the metropolis, the minister said that the last membership registration and revalidation in the state was a charade, saying no congress would take place in the state until all members are duly registered.

He said he got that assurance from the acting National Chairman of APC Mai Mala Buni.

“I never diverted All Progressives Congress (APC) 2019 general elections for my personal use as alleged by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrasaq.”

By the grace of God, I single-handedly with the support of friends, politicians and family raised all the monies for the Oke-Ero/Isin/Ekiti/Irepodun Federal Constituency bye-election of November 2019 that brought Hon. Tunji Olawuyi to the House of Representatives.

“And I challenge anybody here to say he gave the party one penny apart from what I gave them. I challenge anybody here to say he gave logistics support to the party too. I did that by the grace of God and I distributed 500 motorcycles and 20 vehicles. And many of the beneficiaries are here today.”

“I want them to explain to Nigerians about what happened to the N70million that Hon Olawuyi released but the governor refused to give us during the bye-election.

“I had to go to friends to raise another N150 million to prosecute that election. I remember very well that there are 42 wards in that constituency. We thank God today that was the beginning of our success.”

“When elections proper came, we did not see our governorship candidate.

“We could not wait. I say without any fear of contradictions that by the grace of God, with the money raised from friends, colleagues and associates we financed the four elections and we scored 100 per cent.”

“I remember a governor when we won the first election calling me to ask if it was true we won the bye-election. And I told him ‘yes sir.’

He said “I want to apologise to you when you came to me for money, they advised me not to give you. They told me you are a Lagos politician, that nobody can defeat saraki.”

On the forthcoming state congresses nationwide, Alhaji Mohammed said that: “The Acting National Chairman of APC, Mai Mala Buni has assured us that no congress will take place in Kwara State until all our members are registered. And that the congress will be free and fair by the grace of God.”

“About two weeks ago, myself in the company of for governorship aspirant, Prof Shuaib AbdulRaheem and others went to meet with the chairman and he assured us that Kwara State is a special case and there will be no congress until we are all registered. And we believe him. When they come, please come out in your thousands and let them know where the power lies.”

Obaseki’s reforms: Energy Park in Edo with modular refinery, gas, power plants, others to begin operations in October

BENIN CITY – On the back of ease of doing business reforms, by the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration, Duport Midstream Company Limited (DMCL) has announced that the newly built energy park in Egbokor, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State will kick-start operations in October 2021.

The Energy Park is the second industrial refinery facility in the state, different from the Edo Modular Refinery, which has been completed and set to receive feedstock from Escravos line in August.

The Park, which is the first of its kind in West Africa, is the only park with a refinery operation, gas processing plant and power plant sharing the same resources.

Powered by Platform Capital, the energy park has a 10,000 barrel-per-day refining capacity, a 50 megawatts plant capacity and a 60 million scf gas processing plant.



According to the Managing Director of Duport Midstream, Akintoye Akindele, “We realized that the best way to solve our energy problem is by making it last mile, where people can access it easily, thus making the cost lesser and the business scalable.”

“We decided to build an energy park that has refinery operation, a gas operation that does CNG with a potential LNG, and a power plant with all sharing the same resources,” Akindele said.

Akindele said the park will contribute to the availability of petroleum products, utilization of the country’s abundant gas resources and power generation for industries.

Noting that operations in the energy park facility will kick start in October 2021, the Managing Director stated, “Come October 1, 2021, the first energy park with a gas refinery, power and modular energy goes live, first time in the world.”

He explained that the energy park is 70 percent local content, as most of its parts were built locally by contractors, apart from the compressors and refinery done abroad.

Akindele disclosed that the park will commence operation with a 2,500 barrels per day refining, a five megawatts plant, and a 40 million scf gas processing from the installed capacities of each operation.

“We can produce and sell below the cost they ship abroad. It means kerosene and diesel can be cheaper.



“We plan to build all these small modular parks in strategic areas where trucks can drive-in and buy, this helps to cut about 30 percent of the cost,” he said.

The Nigerian Content Development Board (NCDMB) invested $15 million to acquire an equity stake in Duport Mid-stream for the development of the park. Duport Midstream is among the indigenous oil companies that were recently awarded one of the 57 marginal oil fields in the country.

This, according to the organisation, will enable them to further reduce their cost as they would be getting their gas and crude directly from the fields.

“We bid for the marginal field to process locally. Our game plan is to have refineries and gas plants. Get the gas to power and put electricity in homes and industries,” he said.
