Interesting. You see in the end it is finding the best formula that works for you. Also 20w50 is not bad oil sir. What is bad is the quality we have here in nigeria. Sincere apologies if that is how i sounded. When i used the 1999 nissan altima, i used oando 20w50. That was the only one i trusted. And it served me well. I ensured i serviced every 3 months. Whether i use d car or not. I do my service. And that engine was amazing. Purring like a kitten. Instant power when i throttle. Quiet engine even at about 20 year old and mileage of about 250miles plus. Ofcourse there are 20w50s that are synthetic, if i cld lay my hands on that, i will use it. And my choice of using that oil grade is the engine mileage.
^^^
No offense taken at all. I actually wanted to start a discussion. A little background info:

I used 20w 50 oil for donkey years. In fact there was a time when it was the only viscosity available, if I remember correctly.

I then joined NL and some people on here who know quite a bit about cars said 20w 50 oil is simply not suitable for modern engines. The arguments for and against have been on ever since.

I switched to 5w 30 some years ago and have been using it without any issues. The question though is why motor manufacturers would approve certain viscosities only for the Middle east/Africa? What is the reason?

Nigerians are a people sick with a nameless disease not known to medical science. May be I will call it the nigerian syndrome. We can protest over an old rape case involving a single woman( a rape case that is even suspicious as the victim put up no resistance neither in her house nor on the street corner. She never shouted for help nor fought back. No wonder someone called it consentual rape) but keep mute while the whole country is been brutally raped by buhari and his gang. Nigerian syndrome is real and incurable.
^^^
You can condemn the criminal negligence of the Nigerian government and the equally criminal docility of Nigerians without casting doubt on the rape allegations made by Bukola Dakolo. What is the relationship between them and why would you go out of your way to diminish whatever argument you have by conflating the two? undecided

You evidently do not know enough about the crime of rape - and that's why you can confidently make the assertions you made - even though those assertions are completely wrong.

Not all rape victims resist. Some are too scared to do so. Others are just confused and simply do not know what to do. That is a fact.

Not all rape victims shout for help or fight back. The reasons for this are many. You mention 'medical science' in your post - well, medical science also talks about how some rape victims literally go into shock because of the trauma - the normal fight or flight reaction just shuts down and the victim goes numb.

None of us has the full facts about this Dakolo/Fatoyinbo saga. You were not there with them and you do not know what happened. The sensible thing to do is to wait for the facts to unfold.
Car TalkRe: My First Ever Car by VolvoS60(m): 6:49am On Jul 07, 2019
AutoMoTech:
when it comes to oil change, i have discovered one size never fits all. oil change is dependent on alot of factors ranging from where the car is being used (dusty area or not), average distance travelled per trip, state of engine (low mileage or high mileage.)
Now this is what i personally advice,
1. for a car dt does long trips often, i will suggest long service intervals as U stated above since d engine gets to work at optimal temperature for long.
2. however for short trips i would advice shorter service intervals since in some instances the engine might not heat up as required. tho 1 month might be a little extreme, probably something in between.
3. For areas that have alot of dust - short service intervals.
4. high mileage vehicles - short service intervals. probably a step up on oil grade depending on engine cylinder compression state.
In light of this I would also like to point out manufacturers of lubes are really advancing in the oils dey manufacture now that whether long or short trip, the oil does the job. However considering the naija factor where in most users use 20w50 or lower grade oil, there is need to advice them right based on each user.
So as an automobile technician, i consider such factors as location, type of user, drive style, maintenance culture, average distance travelled, engine mileage and maintenance history and also recommended oil grade. based on this i dont ever suggest 5000miles or whatever for anybody as a general rule.... this is my personal preference pls...
^^^
You have a point about there not being a one size fits all method. The problem (if I can call it that) is that 'long' and 'short' are relative. That's why I prefer specific mileage or time intervals to guide me in the choices I make.

I use my 12 year old vehicle (Toyota Corolla) primarily for short trips (intracity transport). It has about 86,000 miles (probably more since I suspect the odometer was rolled back before purchase), and I drive on both good and bad (dusty) roads - in dense, bumper to bumper traffic (most of the time). I typically do not cover up to 5,000 miles before the maintenance required light comes on - the light usually comes on within 6 to 8 months after the last oil change. I would go bankrupt if I had to do an oil change every month!

I have another 11 year old vehicle driven under roughly similar conditions - but the car doesn't have an oil life monitor or a maintenance required light. It has about 126,000km and I do oil changes every 8 months or so on average. The car's still running fine.

As an aside, why does 20w 50 oil get such a bad rep? Brand new Toyotas sold in Nigeria as recently as 2012 have 20w 50 oils as one of the approved viscosities. If it is so bad why would Toyota approve it?

The only real 4WD of that segment is the Subaru Tribeca and Volvo V70
^^^
Worked for me...

I know that the leaders (in no particular order) of 4wd are Audi, Subaru and Volvo but I found the RAV4's system to be competent - more than competent actually.

Of course there are limits to how far the RAV4 can go. For the purists, it isn't a real 4wd - after all, it doesn't have low and high range. But it got the job done for me most of the time - in beach sand and deep mud. If anything, the real problem with that car was the limited ground clearance and not the 4wd/AWD system.

Without going into the jargon of comparing viscous couplings and Haldex clutches and all the other stuff - i'll say the RAV4's 4wd is a basic system that delivers well for the money.

Hello please I’m trying to buy a new mini suv and my options are between the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. I have spoken to two top mechanics and they have both given me opposing views. One is for Honda CR-V one is for Toyota RAV4

What do I want in a car?
I don’t want stress. I don’t want to be fixing one thing every other month. I just sold my Kia and it showed me pepper. I need a break from constant trips to the mechanic. Which of these cars would give me less stress? Which is easy to maintain? Which has cheaper parts? Please let me know. I don’t care about appearance of the car just functionality. Like I said I really just don’t want stress anymore. Thanks!
^^^
Don't know much about the CR-V but I can say a little about my experience with the 2008 RAV4 (Euro Spec, 1AZ FE engine).

Engines are strong and durable, if slightly underpowered. If properly maintained (oil changes done when due) they are trouble free.
Transmissions (AISIN) are also quite strong. Stick with (OEM) ATF to avoid trouble. Transmissions may heat up occasionally during high speed, long distance driving - prompting a warning message on the dash. Park the vehicle and let it cool down for a while and it'll be fine.
Electric steering racks seem to have a tendency to fail.
4wd models are more than equal to the task in poor road conditions. In its class, only a few models (from other car makers) can match the RAV4 in muddy/sandy terrain. However, failure to monitor fluid levels in the rear diff/transfer case can lead to premature failure - expensive to repair or replace.
Fuel economy is average in its class. Using low viscosity oils and regularly cleaning the fuel lines, fuel pump assembly and injectors helps a great deal.
Electricals/electronics are top notch. Trouble free.
Suspension is average - firm ride with quite a bit of road noise. Tyres can be expensive to replace (225/65R17). Regular servicing of brakes is essential to avoid problems with calipers.
Cooling systems are also strong and generally trouble free. Stick with OEM coolant to avoid problems.
Struts and shocks are not as strong (perhaps because 4wd models carry a little more weight) so they may need replacement sooner than later. Rotors also need replacement quite often.

Summary - the RAV4 is a durable car. Running costs are moderate to high, depending on the model and history. If running costs and reliability are key for you, you may want to consider a Corolla. I found the Corolla to be better in these areas.

Every month is excessive (I'm assuming your engine doesn't have any problems). Most auto manufacturers recommend an oil change after thousands of kilometres (5,000 and above) or several months (6 months and above). Modern motor oil is designed around these specifications.

I believe US spec Hondas have oil life monitors. Not sure Euro spec models do - if they don't then your owners manual should have oil change intervals with values similar to what I mentioned above.

Christianity EtcRe: The Guardian UK: Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo's Rape Allegation Goes International by VolvoS60(m): 1:03am On Jul 03, 2019
Chriswazo:
My best read on this episode;

COZA Rape Controversy & The Age of Social Lunacy by Dodoh Okafor

1. On what basis did hundreds of people abandon their morning chores this Sunday to go picket the premises of the Common Wealth of Zion Assembly Church in Guzape Area of Abuja and Lagos?

2. Because a certain woman alleged (without any scintilla of proof) that she was raped? Because 5 women said the Church Pastor had inappropriate sexual relationships with them? Or because Segun Awosika said he has "30" women willing to testify against the COZA founder in law court?

3. What really was the essence of the nasty, rowdy, uncoordinated protests? To embarrass the church? To humiliate the pastor? To get the pastor to step down?

4. Pray- are those protesters really interested in pursuing a strong campaign against rape or were they on a vendetta mission?

5. I do not know what other people may think but here's what I am convinced about: many of those who jumped into this rape issue are being manipulated, misled and used as pawns in a complex game of chess by those who are adept at using the media to manipulate the gullible.

6. The man who conducted the interview that sparked the outrage is a certain Chude Jideonwo- one of the many crafty revisionists Nair El Rufai, Bola Tinubu and their lackeys employed to market Buhari in 2015. You are entitled to your opinion but I am convinced by Jideowno's involvement that a lie is involved, that a campaign to hoodwink the masses has been set in motion and with what I know of social media- a mechanism for creating a media storm has been activated.

7. The lady is probably dishonest and no rational thinker should believe her without at least asking a few important questions. I consider her motive to be suspect at best- reason being- what does she intend to achieve by coming out to tell a story that sound poorly fabricated, lacking in substance and designed to bring opprobrium to a man she had a choice to either deal with or avoid.

8. Many would remember the old Igbo adage that can be simply translated to imply that a raging ocean cannot drown a man whose feet it did not see. Fact is- Mr Fatoyinbo never dragged or nailed the buttocks of any man or woman to his church. Anyone always had the option of walking away the minute you became uncomfortable with his body body language or suggestions.

9. Mr Fatoyinbo did not just see anyone and grabbed her by the waist neither is there any report that he ever saw anyone on the street and pulled his car by the roadside, pushed her side and "opened his zip"

10. To be certain, I am not one to support the violation of trust by anyone in authority especially people from whom much is expected. Pastors, priests, teachers, uncle's and aunties, office superiors and village elders have a great responsibility to carry themselves with dignity and restraint at all times.

11. I am not one to blame the victim but when forceful sexual acts keep occurring and the victim never summoned up the courage to report to anyone but rather submits herself whenever her molester comes around for me has a different interpretation.

12. To imagine that the said Busola Dakolo kept submitting herself to Mr Fatoyinbo, attending his church, singing in his Choir, and as I heard- allowing him to wed her tells an entirely different story. It does not add up. Mrs Dakolo in my estimation may not have told us the entire story or perhaps she is playing a terrible game.

13. It pains me to see Nigerians swallowing that story hook line and sinker because some known social media influencers bought into it. This says a lot about how we have deteriorated in our capacity to think and reason.

14. When did we sublet our thinking power to social media influencers and celebrities? If these men and women care so much about rape- why are they not protesting against the mindless rape and killing of women by fulani cattle rearer/terrorists across most states in southern Nigeria?

15. If they care about women, where were they when a certain Elizabeth Ochanya was raped to death by a man and his son? How much did today's sudden philanthropists donate to support the prosecution of the perpetrators of what undoubtedly is a grave act of wickedness?

16. How much social media awareness did they raise when Eunice Elijah was killed by a band of lunatics in Kubwa Abuja? Why are they not interested in seeing that those behind the dastardly act are brought to book?

17. Where am I driving to? Again to be clear: I would be eager to see rapists and other criminals or those who violate the trust of young girls prosecuted and made to serve their punishment. But I would do everything I can to stop the triumph of online mob action against an assumedly innocent man.

18. Accusation is never conviction. Speaking emotionally while being filmed does not amount to presenting a hard evidence before a court of law. Has social media replaced conventional courts or is there something I am unaware of? Aren't injured people supposed to take their matter to court?

18. Is Mrs Dakolo seeking for justice, revenge, emotional appeal, to create mischief or just to destroy Mr Fatoyinbo? What exactly is this all about? Blackmail or some publicity stunts because none of it is clear to me.

19. Again I ask: what was the protest about? Was the protest against Fatoyinbo or COZA? Shouldn't a protest against Mr Fatoyinbo happen in front of his house? Why did they go to disrupt church programs at COZA today? Shouldn't COZA and Fatoyinbo be separate entities? How come the so-called lawyers who lined up at Guzape today missed this point? So COZA should be brought down because a certain woman told a disjointed story to Chude on camera?

20. Why are people so silly? Where's Stephanie Otobo? Why did she stop regalling us with tales of how Mr Johnson Suleiman "raped" her in Jamaica?

21. I would conclude by advising everyone to be circumspect about what's presented on social media. Truth is- the social media in most cases is structured to weaken your capacity to think, steal your power of logical and deductive reasoning from you and what else? Make you a fool.

22. Buhari and his handlers understood that it is very easy to sell lunacy on social media and the leveraged it to come to power- Ill prepared, with a vindictive mindset and you know where that has landed Nigeria.

23. Interestingly - the same group that sold Buhari to Nigerians in 2015 are behind this Busola Dakolo rape tale. I insist that there's a whole lot more to this hullabaloo.

24. You ask- what of the other 1000 girls that also accused the pastor of rape? I reply with: when did public opinion become the basis of adjudication in matters that require sensitivity and tack? Remember millions of people have voted for Buhari since 2015. Does that confer on Buhari the administrative skill he does not have?

25. What else? Who remembers the women who came forward to accuse Brett Kavanaug of rape soon after he was nominated for a Supreme Court position? When are we picking the US Supreme Court?

Let me end with an advice: never sublet your thinking to anyone- especially people whose agenda you do not understand.

See the audacity of Arewa man exhibited by the senator.
See how the slapped girl refused to retaliate having heard the senator speaking Hausa language.

But few years from now, that ugly and badly educated senator can easily become president of Nigeria if Nigeria remains with this roguish political structure of 20 whooping number of STATES created by northern soldiers in one region - north, but allowed just 17 states in two southern regions that entered independent Nigeria with the northern region in 1960.

A presidential candidate must win 25% votes in 24 states. No southern candidate can easily win 24 states unless Hausa/Fulani is tired of ruling.

Fraud is using land mass or population statistics as parameter to litter excess number of 20 states in one northern region. New political units in a country formed by different regions are not created with population or land mass as parameter in any other country in the world.

The rogue political structure makes southern politicians second class in the country's political process.
Every one in the store watched as one man speaking Hausa was slapping a young girl, fear wouldn't let anyone retaliate.

For those praising the governor, I have a couple of questions: Are the NLTP and Ruga the same thing? Are they related in any way? grin

The more things change, the more they remain the same...

So Osinbanjo is actually in charge of RUGA?

Aboki really get sense. Imagine pushing the most unpopular policy of Buhari to Osinbanjo.

The deceived him with long english National Livestock Transformation Plan while in reality, it is actually RUGA

Prof, make sure you start in Ogun.

The analogy with piggery is of course wrong as we know that in Edo state they eat beef.

Her case may sound silly but it MIGHT be true. My sister was sexually molested even at a younger age. It was very many years later she told me. The weird thing was that my brother's and I were at home that day. We were in the living room watching television while they were in the guest room. He told her to keep saying a particular thing so we wouldn't suspect what was going on while he abused her. We were all very young then and were NTA 2 channel 5 addicts, so we didn't see it out of the ordinary that our senior cousin was with our sister alone in the room.

I asked her why she didn't speak up then so the guy would be lynched. She said she was afraid no one would believe her, the fear of being called a spoilt child for saying such things and the fear of my cousin too who began treating her like dirt but we were too young to notice then. She was traumatized too.

So don't ask why rape victims don't come out early to talk. No one in our family knows this except me. It would hurt my parents terribly if they did, so it's our little secret

I don't know if Busola is saying the truth or not, just saying there are many rape victims out there who can't talk out of fear or one reason or the other.
