Interesting. God is not speaking and if He did, he'd be ADDING to His Word or watering down the sufficiency of the scriptures. This despite the countless accounts he spoke in the scriptures without adding nothing.

How shameless of you when the church put Galileo on house arrest!

We have enough of Catholic garbage to explore, let's stick to this one. There are no findings to explore in the first place. This is hearsay touted to the hopelessly deluded as miraculous.

italo:
If you want to know all those details, reach Dr Ricardo Castanon. He is alive and reachable.

He doesn't owe you anything. He has made his findings. If the peers want to review it, they are always free to apply to do so to the Church, as many have done one the liquefying blood of St. Janarius. The still cant explain why the blood keeps liquefying every year after 1700 years.

But you...you're just a noise maker who does nothing but hide behind your keypads and say anything you like.

And the worst is number 6.

6. We don't need the Holy Spirit to understand the word of God. All we need is scriptures and our brains and we are good to go.

I have heard it here severally implied that Sola Scriptura is alien in the continuists camp but is the cornerstone of cessationism. Exactly what does the Holy Spirit do today in the body of Christ now that the gifts have ceased and we have ALL the truth we need in the Bible?

Misunderstanding Sola Scriptura is far much dangerous than disregarding the sufficiency of the Word of God

Here is how,
1. Theology and I mean any theology which is the VERY means by which we arrive at the Scriptures is thrown out of the window. Who needs Greek or Hebrews or any commentaries? We just need scriptures!

2. Preaching should effectively cease. Any attempt to preach or share the Word of God other than reading scriptures carries an inherent risk of adding to the scriptures. God should have left us sermons but He left us 66 books. What are sermons anyway other than manmade efforts at (mis)understanding scriptures? If preaching does not 'add' to the scriptures, then just recite the scriptures!

3. Evangelism too for the same reasons as 2. should cease.

4. Fellowship is pretty much useless. Why should we fellowship? Is it possible that calls to fellowship as recorded in the NT were birthed by the insufficiency of the then scriptures and now that we have the canon we don't need fellowship?

5. Bible translation is lethal. What if you add to scriptures while translating? How do we even know what version to use? Should it be the oldest/newest?

Christianity Etc › Re: N'landers, Who Is Melchizedek As Described In Hebrew 7vs1-3? by vooks: 9:22am On Dec 13, 2014
Ever since before Christ, many have ascribed divinity to Melchizedek. So am not surprised at mbaemeka's assertions. At least my good debater buddy does not believe it was Jesus.

Calling him Jesus lands you into trouble because Jesus became flesh when he was born/conceived of Mary and not before.

But calling him Holy Spirit is equally problematic. Melchizedek was a king of a literal city called Salem. Theophanies usually came and left. Holy Spirit would have to have be theophanic for extended time to function as Melchizedek. Besides,if his priesthood is eternal and that is taken to mean that there was always a priest in the office, then Melchizedek must have remained in office until Jesus ascended and assumed his high priestly role. He must have been a priest over Canaan while Israel was stuck in Egypt among the Perrizites and Jebusites.....Do you honestly see God making covenants after covenants with Israel and preserving a record of the same while there is total silence over this superior priesthood? Jesus is promising to send a helper to the church, the same helper who has been busy operating here in the office of Melchizedek!

Melchizedek was just another guy. The 'trouble' with regarding him as another guy is purely a matter of arguments about words in Hebrews, arguments which nobody can claim to be better at than the other. Semantics really.

I favor Shem, Noah's son for his identity. Shem outlived Abraham by 35 years or so. When you study Job which is dated around Genesis (Pre-Mosaic era), the head of the family was also the priest who offered sacrifices for the family. Either this or the oldest in the family. Shem was the OLDEST man around Abraham so he could have doubled as a priest.

Lyrical satire apart, and now on a serious note, sammied has succintly answered or responded very well to ALL your knee jerk questions about the voice of God (i.e. the speaking, hearing and listening)

Really loved sammied's earlier response and I quote here:

- © sammied

"All I ask is for you to tell us what you hear.
You declined the request so I went further to ask how often you hear what you hear, you refuse to give an answer to that as well.

You have tugged, pulled and tried yanking out of sammied, how God spoke and speaks with him or how he hears from God (i.e. is it audibly, is it in the silence of His presence, etctera)
but I am surprised why you didnt ask questions like: how others makes love with their partners,
surprised you havent asked, what sound they make at org@sms etcetera

They are similar or are the same things shdemidemi, it is not that it is inexplicable but some things are private or personal
you, shdemidemi, just have to give the benefit of the doubt since you have no idea of what happens when God speaks, have no idea how it happens when God speaks etcetera.
Since if like the man in the story earlier shared, one who refuses to listen, refuses to acknowledge, refuses to recognise, hardens one heart to the voice of God then one is missing out a huge and great deal

You asked me the question "Baba G... Have you heard God's audible voice outside scripture? This is no joke, I will really like to know"
but before that you said "God isn't a talkative neither is he a reactive God"
well, I'll supplement that with, God the Holy Spirit is a gentleman and wont force gift(s) not desired, recognised, wanted or wont impress gift(s) against anyones wish

Does God have to always speak audibly shdemidemi? Does the bible speak to you at all shdemidemi? If yes, is it audibly?
Stop these ludicrous voice questions, no offense meant.
Just because "God speaking" is abused, it's no excuse to expunge it

Put it this way shdemidemi, and answering you back, sometimes I hear God speak in the quietness or stillness of moments
however importantly, part of my daily and continual prayer is:
"God, please, as I go about by daily runnings and activities, let me hear your voice.
Let me hear your voice, clearly and loudly as I go about things,
and guide me in all or everything with/by your voice"

I liked your 1 Thessalonians 5:21 quotation, it is a good "litmus paper" verse

So shdemidemi, why not prove all things and hold fast that which is good.
If what God spoke or what was heard spoken doesnt complement God's word or the Bible, drop it and flee from it nau LOL

Christmas is of pagan origins and nobody knows for sure Jesus birthday. The fact that scriptures are quite hazy on the exact date means that is not important. A Christian as such is not bound by Christmas. I don't celebrate Christmas, it is irrelevant for me. But I have nothing against those who chose to celebrate it. That's their problem

Except this is not knowledge but DOCTRINE from God's only voice on earth. The question then is how can we have ANY confidence in any of their current junk? What if that changes? What if they discover they were wrong on the identity of the 144,0000? What if they discover that NWT is a piece of BS?

The changing doctrines means this body is not reliable and as such a genuine truth seeker should not be bound by their pronouncements
BIBLESPEAKS:
When u take a closer look at knowledge u realise that it grows with time. Sometime ago for example, blood letting was a medical practice belived to aid in recovery(US president, George Washinton died while undergoing this treatment), but with the passage of time due to better understanding of the human body it was abandoned. Man used to think of the earth as flat, but with better understanding with time they concluded that the earth was a sphere. Also as man better understands certain phenomena and processes in the earth system, advancements in technology is seen.

In certain ways, knowledge of the scriptures and the principles therein is very much the same.
This is seen in several Bible examples. For example, regarding the prophecy by Daniel through God, God told Daniel: "As for you, Daniel, keep the words secret, and seal up the book until the time of the end. Many will rove about and the true knowledge will become abundant."
The hebrew verb here translated "rove about" conveys the idea of a careful examination. And true to this, many have carefully examined and understood these prophecies by Daniel even much more than paul and the other apostles. This certainly does not mean that God was not with the apostles.

Note also that the disciples of Christ had been with him throughout his ministry on earth but they had wrong expectations regarding the kingdom of God, for they hadnt fully grasped Jesus' teachings. Luke records: "He was near Jerusalem and they were imagining that the kingdom of God was going to display itself instantly." - Luke 19:11. To readjust their thinking, Jesus gave an illustration.

However, just before jesus' ascension, his disciples asked: "Lord, are you restoring the kingdom to israel at this time?" (Acts 1:6) Did their wrong expectation or lack of knowledge regarding this issue indicate that God wasn't with them? NO. Did Jesus reject them for asking this? NO. He explained that it was not yet the time and that they were to busy themselves with the important work of witnessing about the true messiah. (Acts 1:7,cool

God's perfect justice is so endearing. He searches the hearts of earthling man. If a person worships him according to his approved way, but has certain mistaken understanding or wrong expectation of prophecy, God blesses his effort and search for true knowledge. I think Jehovah's witnesses have been down-right humble and sincere to abandon sometimes cherished beliefs and understanding of the scriptures in order to align themselve more fully to the healthful teachings found in the Bible.

WinsomeX:
That Charismatics do not preach nor believe in the sufficiency of scriptures is an unfortunate statement but it is true. It is a fact I have gathered from my long association with them. Anyone is free to disagree with it. I, however, think Cessationists take the doctrine to an unhealthy extreme. God's words are fully documented in scriptures but a wonderful and personal God has chosen to walk with us mere mortals and to relate to us as friends. A friend will speak to his friend, only that what God will say us within the limits of scriptures. How this relates to specific prophecies is not what I can explain at the moment. However, a doctrine of Sufficient Scriptures help guard against all sorts of error. Example:
1. Not tithing is anathema in Nigeria because supposed popular preaching heard God say to them that those who do not tithe are either cursed are headed to hell. It is not very difficult to discern the spirit speaking here; a self serving, merchandizing spirit
2. A Pastor friend told how their Pastor instructed to double their tithe for that year. By the following year, he had to be reminded if God's instruction subsisted or not.

Etc.
My broda, i been in the continuists camp for a better part of my life in Christ and I have never seen nobody disregarding scriptures as insufficient. What I mostly find lacking is the noble spirit of Beroa; checking whatever is preached against scriptures. Ignorance almost akin to Catholism where Rome's garbage is infallible. but even among Cessationist here, I find the same ignorance. Some 'traditional' doctrines such as dispensationalism are 'inspired'. Their ignorance is more systematic, you have creeds and statements of faith which are seldom thought through.

A perfect example of what I am talking about. God does speak but most of those speaking for God today are false prophets.
If you knew the influence of this man, you would weep. He is always berating prosperity gospel, witchcraft, indecency in churches and so forth. He is a 'miracle' worker and he believes he is the Malachi Elijah who was to come supposedly to prepare the church for rapture. I have met immense opposition from his fans for merely pointing to his fraudulent claims and failed prophecies.

I like the way the cessationists distinguish BTW foretelling and forthtelling. Fourth telling is preaching. God can give a word and that word can be preached. The listeners have the right to judge what the preacher is saying and decide whether it is God or not. The same right is given to them in foretelling, which is popularly called prophecy.
Forthtelling and foretelling roles of prophecies are arbitrally. You can't distinguish teaching, preaching from forthtelling. Cessationists are basically telling you that one of the roles of prophets ceased while the other persisted. They are watering down prophecies
That is why they were apostles. They could teach doctrines that are "new" so to speak. No one after them can and that why the apostolic office in that sense is ceased. If the apostolic office will cease, we mist then agree that some apostolic gifts too can cease. This is the point of the cessationists.
What are apostolic gifts? Cessationists are dishonest. They would have us believe that the miraculous in the first century was reserved for the apostles. But we had non apostles prophets like Philip's daughters and Agabus.

Personally, I see apostles as defined in Acts 1, witnesses of the resurrection of Jesus, and those who had walked with Him for a better part of his earthly ministry. This of course with exception of Paul. Those guys were going to die and there would be no living witnesses of the resurrection. That's what Paul suggests in 1 Cor 15 where he says some of the 500 are still alive. The apostolic office ceased not because of any esoteric reasons as canon but simply because of the mortality of men.

There are three test for true prophecy:

1. The Word or orthodoxy.
2. Fruit or character.
3. Prophetic fulfillment.

No matter the prophet all the three must fit. So you predict an earthquake over Lagos. If you have predicted five prophecies in the past and all but one failed, you are a false prophet and the Lagos prophecy should not be believed.

If all your prophecy has come to pass but your wife accuses you of "inappropriate relations" with female members of staff or you are a aerial divorcee, you are a false prophet and you are not to be believed.

If you scale the two above but you preach a prosperity gospel, you are a false prophet and you are not to be believed.

In 1965, Dr D M Lloyd Jones was speaking at the Centenary celebrations of the building of the Westminster chapel, London. He is Reformed in doctrine and a cessationists. He spoke of how at the height of the Second World War God gave him a witness (a prophetic word) that that building will not be bombed. He told a story of how all building around it were leveled save for the church. That's a prophecy one can believe.

Lloyd Jones was orthodox; he was not flippant so you can never accuse him if "prophelying" and so you could not point him to unfulfilled prophecies. He was not the type that will say in a sermon God told me. What was a prophecy in WW2 was revealed long after the war; and lastly he was an upright man.

That's was a man of God and that the sort of prophecy God can give today. It is still not authoritative. And if Lloyd Jones were to rise from the dead and say a church will not be bombed in a war, I as a member of that church will Stoll watch my back during service.
I agree 120%. But what Cessationists should avoid is the outrageous claim that modern prophecies are attempts at adding to the canon because clearly not every word of God is meant to be preserved for future generations with the same authority as Revelation

It is a matter of faith. Either you believe or you do not. application of science for confirmation is just mere unnecessary bonus.

Luke 10: 21 - 24

21 At that time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit and said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and made them known to the little ones.
22 Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. I have been given all things by my Father, so that no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and he to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."
23 Then Jesus turned to his disciples and said to them privately, "Fortunate are you to see what you see,
24 for I tell you that many prophets and kings would have liked to see what you see but did not, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it."

Italo has made his choice and you also. Anybody who wants and insists on scientific confirmation should appeal/ protest to OUR Father in Heaven to be illumined or to JESUS.

John 6: 48 - 64
48 I am the bread of life.
49 Though your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, they died.
50 But here you have the bread which comes from heaven so that you may eat of it and not die.
51 I am the living bread which has come from heaven; whoever eats of this bread will live forever. The bread I shall give is my flesh and I will give it for the life of the world."
52 The Jews were arguing among themselves, "How can this man give us flesh to eat?"
53 So Jesus replied, "Truly, I say to you, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
54 The one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood live with eternal life and I will raise him up on the last day.
55 My flesh is really food and my blood is drink.
56 Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood, live in me and I in them.
57 Just as the Father, who is life, sent me and I have life from the Father, so whoever eats me will have life from me.
58 This is the bread which came from heaven; unlike that of your ancestors, who ate and later died. Those who eat this bread will live forever."
59 Jesus spoke in this way in Capernaum when he taught them in the synagogue.
60 After hearing this, many of Jesus' followers said, "This language is very hard! Who can accept it?"
61 Jesus was aware that his disciples were murmuring about this and so he said to them, "Does this offend you?
62 Then how will you react when you see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?
63 It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh cannot help. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.
64 But among you there are some who do not believe."

You are familiar with the the Neolithic or Agricultural Age, the Industrial Age, the Space Age, and the current Information Age we are in

Are all these fantansies?
Sola scriptura wont necessarily have these other stuff related to or for living on Earth in red or black and white
- Sola scriptura is more about or for the Kingdom
God, apart from hermeneutics gave "primates" the processing ability to recognise other truths or patterns

Dispensations aren't extra biblical trash which you believe shdemidemi isn't hesitating to spew

When primates discard the word of God and start reading between the lines instead of the lines, they end up with such fantasies as seven dispensations. But we are used to Shdemidemi open disdain for scriptures so am not surprised if he spews eloquent garbage and pretends it is from God. Quite funny given he believes God ONLY speaks from scriptures yet he has tons of extra biblical trash which he does not hesitate to spew

shdemidemi:
No, it is not written verbatim in scripture as that but it makes for easier study so we don't jumble everything together like a novel.

God's relationship with Adam and Eve is different from his relationship with Moses for example.

Apostle Paul also made mention of the administration and dispensation of grace to the church as that which was given unto him.
Ephesians 3:2
King James Bible
If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

The book of Acts is an historical book that recorded the acts of the apostles. It was a period where the church was birthed- jews first. There was a transition after Paul was called. The gospel was taken to a people who were strangers to the oracle and promise of God-Gentiles. Paul gradually took these people on as the Apostle to the gentiles- He revealed unto them the power of God unto salvation to anyone who will believe in the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The old testament was a progressive revelation that led to Christ. After the death of Christ He appeared to Paul and commissioned him to herald a message He taught the Apostle.

I don't have proclivity for concocting garbage out of the Word. It says God has spoken. Period. My thinking is not important, God's word is

I aksd you something. You imagine that God ONLY reaches to us through His Word and misery/pain?
shdemidemi:
Is it! Is that all you can deduce from the verse?

I will have to ignore your post from now if you can't comprehensively explain what you think the verse is saying.

It seem you are yet in one of those situations where you find yourself between a hard place and a rock. A time where you quickly resort to incivility.

Father of lights,

2 Corinthians 4:3-4 King James Version (KJV)
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

Let the light of your glorious gospel shine through every dark crevice of this man's heart. In Jesus name I pray Amen

I advice you to think through your theories before regurgitating them.
When you flash Hebrews 1:1 to support your God-is-not-speaking theory you are clearly out of your depth and I showed you why.

The words HAS SPOKEN were written circa 66 AD and AFTER these words we had Revelation of Jesus Christ which He gave to John. If 'has spoken' means that we no longer need revelations, then any further revelation after 66AD would have been a violation of this statement.

You are inventing a false dilemma by imagining that when God speaks, it MUST be outside His Word. John tells us the Spirit will lead us to the truth. If the Spirit speaks to me the very Word of God, what is the problem?

Let me ask you a simple question, does the Holy Spirit help you understand scriptures?
shdemidemi:
I advice you take time to study more than you argue. Moreover, You don't have to agree with me. If you think God will speak to the church or to you outside His word, fine. All I ask is show me where you made such outlandish summations from.

2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son

What do you understand by this statement- 'God spoke by His son'?

Keeping in hindsight that the son is the heir to to the father.

He did not speak by Jesus in the old but by the prophets. God presented a shadow of what is to come in the last days by and through the son in the old.
