Yvete: Congrats on the lotto! I gave up on that last year because they never chose me. sad To a certain extent, your career choices greatly affect you here. As a migrant, I'd advise you to pursue a degree that's easily marketable especially if you're gonna reside long term/permanently in the US.
Think critically. The Sciences, Technology, Heathcare...healthcare...healthcare...healthcare and education(quick jobs) = Bliss!
All others like communication, sociology, foreign language, yadda yadda yadda? Yawn. Could work in Nigeria though.
Don't give up on it just yet dearie, even as you are already in the states you can still use it to change your status from F-1 to a PR....well me still play am ooo even though i don dey yankee maybe until the STEM issue is resolved in the senate...i don't even know who to support on that one cos both affects me..if they cancel Visa lottery and give the green cards to STEM major i go get am and if they decided not to...i can still play the lottery and change my status...if it clicks!..... grin grin grin grin grin grin

Yvete: Virginia International University has vexed this semester loool. They're seriously on the hunt for money from lazy Nigerian Students.

Haha! So you're laughing at VIU too? You almost became an Alumnus of that interesting school. cheesy I like your attitude towards the visa situation. *Nice one* I think you deserve better than half-baked institutions with poor Alumni network. Forget about that joke of an interview and nail the GRE to increase your chances of better Grad Schools with funding. Its OK to change careers at any level so if IT is your passion, follow it.
Infact that school na serious International university seeking for intercontinental students....i'm sure that school is in the embassy's Black book...lol...

Yvete: Wow! So Mr. Imperiouxx would be visiting Houston and he tells Mamacita before me. cool

Hey, let's do lunch if you've got free time that day. Would be nice to see you in person (though I already know how you look grin). Mamacita is high yellow paw-paw, like sunlight so you don't need to see her. loooooooooool

Lil Mama, the best thing you can do for yourself is a weekend assignment. >> (Study this thread in its entirety. If you can't, just go through only part 3 this weekend). You will better understand the basics of what to say and what not to say. When you're done, all the explanations you're getting from everyone will make sense to you, and also register in your mind. Then I can help you if you still need it. I feel for you ((Girly hug))

I've been reading comments posted..and somehow no one seem to talk about the innocent man in the BMW returning from a vigil..while some people support drunk driving, others are just "whatever"....You need to pray that you don't become the innocent caught in the web, when the guilty are receiving their punishment....RIP to all that lost their lives especially "Lucky" who happened to be my secondary school mate...but my condolences go to the family of the innocent guy in the BMW.

imperiouxx: First of all, congrats that you went through the previous threads and I know by now, you should be confident and know what you are expecting/expected of you. Now to your questions

First bold: That has big effect on your chance. Few escape it by chance but many didn't.
Second bold: My passport was clean without any visa, blemish-less and shinning too, also many other people that got their visas the very first time.
Third bold: You remind of one of my best Joe song - Stutter Please, you have to control being tensed that could led to S...st...stu...stutt.......ering. Joe said the girl was lying even by stuttering.
Fourth bold: People said IT field is easy to cross to. If you look at it this way, many things are centralize on IT these days. You can relate what you called not much in geography and regional planning(Geographic Information System) to your crave for IT, magnify it, polish it well in the presence of the VO. Believe me, you are the only one that knows it's small part of geography but no one else, your brain is needed US and that starts from their embassy. You are a graduate student, US wants people like you of good talent who when integrated into their system, more value is added to their country.

Fourth bold: Best of Luck to you all
Seconded by Me grin grin grin grin grin

Yvete: See me see wahala! I don't wish to dig up any dirt, but I feel the need to respond to you. Did I ask you not to attend the community college or imply that your Dad is not rich? FYI: As a smart lady, grin I transferred to a community college for 2 years to "keep extra change in my pocket". The primary reason I stumbled on this thread is because two of my cousins need help.Everything I know, I learned on here. If I know-it-all, I wont encourage Mamacita to read over 300 pages of this thread in its entirety from part 1! Why would I intentionally discourage someone else when I'm praying for the same visa for family? Note: Anything you post online (facebook, twitter, nairaland, youtube...etc) is up for maybe-not-what-you-want-to-hear responses.

Everyone talks about OPT, OPT, OPT. After my undergrad, I didn't even use it because someone told me how to get the H1B directly. If I didn't talk about it, would I know what to do? Swallow your darn pride and learn. Obviously, not from me.

I work in front of a computer from 9-5, and occasional boredom brings me to Nairaland so your success or delay has nothing to do with me. We're not friends and may never see each other so learn NOT to take things personally. Please don't discourage yourself in quest for undue respect.

TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by walex57(m): 7:39pm On Nov 16, 2012
ferdimako: Guy, for the fact you have been using 23401 and 23402 and having your stuff delivered does not mean they are correct. When you go to the US pls get the correct zip code of where u live or work. 234 is for calling Nigeria and when you go to a NIPOST office your street zip code will be revealed to you. Because Nigeria does not make most use of their zip codes, should not make us tell others to stick to a wrong thing. My area zip code here in Jos is 930282.
I wasn't standing my ground that i was correct...i may be wrong...what i mean is the way some people approach others here is very annoying...i know the zip code thing isn't really necessary but i don't like people making an issue out of nothing...if i'm wrong tell me politely not in an annoying manner... and moreover i'm already in the US..
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by walex57(m): 5:15am On Nov 16, 2012
kpolli: I only responded to the poster not to be afraid cos naija's official zip code is not 23401 so that can't be the reason he wasnt seeing the tracked info until some ppl who knew best tried to challenge knowledge. . . .

Beware do not use 23401 on sites like paypal. . . . Your mailing international so the 23401 we all use is discarded. . . Zip code is for couriers to know their nearest location to ur residence is. . . I have used 23401 well before but I just needed to clear the air before we continue saying 23401 is naija's zip code. . . one day ur mail wud go to virginia. . . .

Plus seriously google 23401, and read what it says. . . . Before you know it, it would be blacklisted. . . . Biofem is actually right 00000 is supposed to be our official zip code
Kpolli...the only reason i didn't respond to your reply was just because you seem to want to put up a quarrel about the zip code thing and i like playing safe...all i know is that i do use 23401 or 23402 for ibadan and my mails got to me...but i don't think it should really be an issue...more so we all understand english and know how to seek answers (replying to your "what is a zip code" question)...i didn't expect such question in the context in which you used it 'cos i could read a thousand and one meanings to that question the way you asked it...no hard feelings bro.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by walex57(m): 6:44pm On Nov 15, 2012
kpolli: 23401 is not a naija zip code ooo, its for Keller, Virginia
Contrary to that...23401 is actually Nigeria's zip code for Lagos!....it's widely accepted...i dunno where you got your facts from bro...but i guess google is the best shot at seeking for info...

kaytee07: Thanks peeps. Interview was yesterday @ the Lagos Embassy with a black American guy. Here's how it went: Can't even remember if I greeted him.
VO: Please pass your documents
Me: Passed my docs (Passport, I-20, Admission letter, etc)
VO: What course are you going to study?
Me: Business administration and Management
VO: Why did you choose Bleep University?
Me: Spoke about the courses and how each of those courses can help achieve my overall career objective here in Nigeria
VO: How many schools did you apply to?
Me: I said "three" and mentioned them
VO: Why did you choose this school over the two?
Me: Re-iterated the answers I gave to the first question
VO: Did you write GMAT?
Me: Yes, I passed my score sheet (he looked through and passed it back)
VO: Who's paying for your education?
Me: My mum
VO: What does she do?
Me: I explained
VO: What do you do presently?
Me: I work with a company (mentioned the name) as an associate in the xyz unit
All the while, he was typing. When he finished, he gave me a white collection form and said "Your visa has been approved, pick it up @ ikeja on..." (didn't hear the guy after that)
That was the end of the interview. The only supporting document he requested was my GMAT score report. All glory to God
Congrats bro...sounds very similar to mine...did you go through my interview experience?...welcome on board!

mr swagger: Hello house, Oga imperioux and others I need your advice on this. I intend applying for admission for undergraduate fall 2013 resumption. I went to my high school to get all necessary documents with the transcripts from the school. My high school package everything for me.
My question here is; should I include the university in USA application form and the bank statements along with the package my school did for me. Because my school teacher said I shud send the bank statement and all other documents with a separate file directly to the school in USA by myself, but they said if I want they can help me include the bank statement and other documents and send it for me. Because this documents are too many and I hope to send everything at once. Pls will dis be accepted. Because many schools in USA said documents should come officially directly from the high school. Pls who is in d same similar situation here or who can help me on this. Pls I need advise before I make the wrong steps.
You can send all of them at once...as long as the transcripts and other documents being sent by the school are sealed....i sent all my documents at one through my school...they put all of them into one big envelope but my transcripts were sealed in smaller envelopes by the school...why waste too much money...

dnpasion: It was really a sad day for me because i got Denied today at Lagos Us Embassy and here is how my interview went. Firstly i was bit nervous when answering the questions.

Vo. Why this school?
Me. I chose this uni becos 99% of their classrooms are technology-enabled and the school offers intelligence cognate which combine the key elements of computer science with the skills needed for work in the security and business sector.
Vo. How many schools did you applied to?
Me. 3 and listed but only xyz admitted me.
Vo. Who is Jerry westfall?
Me. Thought he said Jerry Falwel so I said he is the founder of the school because Jerry Falwel is the founder and chancelor of the school not knowing he was referring to Westfall who happens to be one of the prof. In the computer sc. Department.
Vo. Why this major?
Me. I chose this major because almost every major challenge facing society is turning to computing for a solution.
Vo.What will you do after the completion of your study?
Me. Come back for my nysc after that I wish to work for the nigeria government.
Vo. Who is sponsoring you?
Me. My dad
Vo. What does he do?
Me. Business
Vo. Type of business?
Me. He is a major distributors of mouka and yinka oba foam, he is also into sales of building materials.
Vo. How much does it have in bank for your program?
Me. Told him the total on the bank statement but he didn't bother to look at the bank statement.
He typed for some minutes hoping that he is going to give me the green paper but unfortunately he gave me a white paper and said sorry can't grant you a visa.

On the white paper given to me, it was stated there and I quote that: After considering the information you supplied through your visa application, your responses to questions asked durong interview and information available in our databases, the consular officer who conducted your interview determined that you have not demonstrated that you qualify for a U.S. Nonimmingrant Visa.
This may have been because you either did not demonstrate strong ties outside the united states or you were unable to demonstrate that your intended activities would be consistent with the type of visa for which you applied.
I'm so sorry to hear this, Don't worry, Kit up very well...and pls try to know much about your school and the course which includes knowing all the faculties in your department...Wish you the best next time.
