Lol! Thnx smiley
Tee Tee and others who may have issues with SEVIS payment...my own advice will be to try to go to Seme border or Cotonou to make your payment...Your hustle has begun ooo...you will face more hustle when you arrive here so i think it's best to start the learning process right from back home...I tell you the truth, paying at Seme border isn't as difficult as you think...instead of waiting for someone to make the payment for you from here which to me seems more complex...

imperiouxx: How do you know that one of the Romney's descendant or loyal isn't a VO?
Hahahahaha...that will be serious oooo....Guys pray harder, fast sef....
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by walex57(m):
This is a reminder to all spring applicants in tha house should in-case you have forgotten....
1. You have to eliminate nervousness (either shoot it with gun or whatever) but u have to,
2. Be bold! i can tell you that if you are bold enough, the VO might not even ask for any documents including GRE or/and TOEFL, Yes i repeat including GRE or/and TOEFL,
3. Know about your school, i think Wikipedia will be a good source for those going next week, know about your course as well
4. Don't give unnecessary lengthy answers, be concise except when explanation is needed and the VO should give you that look or ask you to buttress (e.g; don't talk about a professor you met in the school while answering "why this school", i think there are better reasons for choosing a school than meeting a professor you wish to work with, God forbid what if he or she dies or gets fired before you resume the school nko, shei you go still work with am ni?)...but also don't be annoyingly shallow in answering ("one word" answers can be annoying)
5. Demonstrate (use body gestures) while answering some certain questions like "why this course" and the likes, it shows sign of confidence
6. Don't bring out documents when you are to be answering questions (e.g; don't bring out financial statements when asked "what does your sponsor do"...answer first, if the VO needs the document he/she will ask), documents don't have mouth, they won't answer the questions for you.
7. Dress neatly and like a student, masters it's ok to where a shirt and tuck in for guys, with a polished shoe, for ladies ...em..i no know ooo..but you figure out....(e.g; don't sag your jeans or pants, don't wear a t-shirt with the inscription "awon boyz da, awa omo isale eko reee" or "Obama 2016"....just examples.
8. Pray to you God before going, I tell you prayer works...and all these have an attachment to favor(that's all you may need after-all)

I know some of these may be found in the previous threads but for ease i've decided to remind us....if there are other things to add...my oga(s) dem dem for here go add...

Wish y'all spring applicants the best and we here are waiting for success stories by next week.

dnpasion: House please I need your advice. On my I-20, it was beeen written and I quote "This School Requires English Proficiency" and under they wrote " The student has the required English Proficiency". Does this mean that they have given me a waiver in writing Toefl? Because the school told me that its not necessary for student from nigeria to write it and I was been given admission without the exam. So please I need u guys to explain in details to me what they meant by the sentences I quoted above. Thanks
Yeah it means they are satisfied with your English proficiency, and so no need for TOEFL but as an amour, you can still take a letter or email printout from your school saying in clear terms that it was actually waived....just gather yourself together and go with faith, confidence and favor. all the best

poopppyLiillyy: Wow,thanks a lot!but what of if d VO doesn't ask any of those Questions like Why US or d school? Cos both weren't askd from me in my 2previous interviews.

I just think there is somtn more than all the Qstns this ppl need that we don't knw,cos I was confidence enough,in fact confidence isn't the Problem.Mayb they just enjoy wastn our money or d seen d game of desperation in us,cos me ehn,I don tire o!!!
Not necessarily, The VOs are smart, they know that from statistics, only about 3% or less of all international students who school in the USA actually return back to their countries, Yes, it may be tough at the first instance but believe me, if you graduate here in the US especially at masters level, na the companies go dey look for you. so the VO wants to make sure that even if you don't return to Nigeria, you'll be useful in the US...another point to make here is that, when they say "ties" many of us streamline our knowledge to only tangible stuff, NO!....working experience alone is a tie, having to talk about companies and industries that can employ you on your return is a tie, in fact, applying also to a Nigeria university for masters is a tie (shows you aren't desperate for their country) and pls for others who wanna apply don't apply only to schools in US, apply to schools in the UK, Nigeria, Australia as well, i tell it's a strong point for you even if na only one school u apply to for US...Don't stand like number "1" while answering the VO especially when it comes to explanatory questions, demonstrate! it shows signs that you know what you're doing even if e no click. Also, many people don't wanna hear this but it's the fact. Your command of English matters, If you dey throway bombs at the VO, you don wound am already so in order to escape from you he or she go deny you quick quick...poppylilly, make sure if possible, you get an admission letter sent to you by air mail not online printout. and get new documents such as new bank details, new sponsorship letter, new almost everything, modified of course, u dig?...I wish you all the very best and expect a shout of joy from you...I hail everyone here from my base in CA. grin grin grin grin

poopppyLiillyy: huhI was denied my F1 visa yesterday and dis how d interview went;

VO;why ar u going to d USA?
Me;to pursue my master of science in ....at .... Uni.
VO;how many schools do u apply too?
Me;5(named them)
VO;what was ur undergraduate major?
Me;......
Vo;who is sponsoring you?
Me;my Dad
V0;.What does he do?
Me;....
VO;how much does he earn?(Showed her d finiancial docs, but she couldn't check,so she just askd)just tell me how much?
Me;....per month
VO;did u write any exams?
Me;my course doesnt require any and I was giving a letter from my school.(Showed her d letter)(she collected it,checked and looked for my I-20,looked and threw back my exam letter at me.she asked for my admission letter, checked also and give it back and later told me I was denied)
What happend is I did an interview for fall bt was denied,so I only contacted my school for another I-20,and I totally forgot to ask them for another docs lik a new admssion letter,so it was still d same dated docs for fall that I took for a spring interview.
But now I av new docs, paid for another interview and I automatically got Oct 22 for another appointment,am so scared its too early and close. So scared I might be denied even entry for d interview talkless of being granted on any ground.Am thinkn its too close and dey can deny me due to that, cos I did one 18 Oct and got another 22.Pls I need an advice fast on what to do.is it safe for me to go.......pls advice me,its just monday and am pretty scared.
The date doesn't really matter, what matters is if your overall condition since your last interview has changed significantly...that is if you were given any white paper...check for what reason you were denied, it should be "ticked" on the rejection paper/letter you were given...another thing you need is confidence and favor, Pray before you go and have the belief that you'll get it. Moreover how come you still went for a visa interview yesterday when you were expecting new docs? undecided...

Me: OK, Thnak you very much (with the same face)

NOTE to be taken: I am in no position to give advice cos my own experience had more to do with divine intervention than my skills. However, I'll tell you on thing ALWAYS TELL THE UNDILUTED TRUTH, look them in the eye when you speak and be yourself. Do not treat it like a Job interview relax and let God take control. BECAUSE NO ONE CAN SAY DEY KNOW HOW D VOs think. Your situation may be different, but confidence and honesty might do the trick. I hope this boost ur confidence and do not be intimidated by other (i.e their result and stuff) belief in urself.

I've read everyone's comments and I dunno where to even start from...some talk about GA's(of course which everyone cannot get),average family (doesn't have to be the same as yours), california is expensive (not all that true), and sorts...We are all different and came in here with different intentions and orientations...Life in USA ain't easy..yes! and No!....maybe i should say this...before you came here you had an upbringing from home...why not use that as a factor of your living here if you intend coming here...I think the issue here is many Nigerians still calculate and exchange dollars to Naira in their heads before making a decision on finances...this is wrong!...i think if i'm correct (GboyegaD, Imperiouxx, Biofem, and co can please correct me if i'm wrong), the minimum wage in america is around $8.50 per hour (40 or 20 hours a week) and in Naija it's N18,000 (40 hours a week) per month (that should be around 70cents per hour)so of course if you pay 40,000 naira per year in naija...you shouldn't expect to pay the same or equivalent here when you arrive...i think that settles the complaint on $500 per month rent (with or without utilities)...Live low (Biofem or someone else said so)....Naija wan show...we wan quickly toast girl and so we flaunt ever our next semester tuition fee wey never complete sef around....pls be wise...USA is ok if you get your priorities right and maybe very bad if you've got it all wrong from the start...americans are nice people (at least from my point of view)...so make friends...Please don't come to america via student visa just because you wanna live the "American Dream" else that Dream will just pafuka!....if you wanna do that, wait patiently till when your visa lottery pulls through...for those that are here...list your problems and ways you can get around it legally and then have priorities...for those wey never come but wan come...abeg take am jeje...cheers!

RomanceRe: PLSSSS Y'ALL I NEED ADVISE! by walex57(m): 5:46am On Aug 30, 2012
ennkey: My bf and i started dating in 2005. He was an undergraduate when we met and i was yet to be admitted into a higher institution. I was not from a well to do home same as my bf too.I had lost my dad in 1998 and my mum did all she could to raise my siblings and i.she hawked through rain and shine jst to put food on the table. To cut d story short in 2008, fortune smiled on us.My aunt in the states showed a colleague of her's (An American) my mum's picture and he fell in love with her instantly. He came down to Africa to see her, he fell in love with her and was moved to tears at the story of how we suffered after we lost my dad. They got married and after 10 months we all moved down to the united states and have been living there since 2009. It wasnt easy for me and my guy as we were soooo much in love,we both cried our eyes out for a whole week before i travelled because we couldnt bear the thought of being seperated from each other. We made promises to each other that we would wait and distance would not be a barrier to what we both shared. It wasnt easy being apart but we did all we could to make sure it worked and it did. We decided to formalize our union last year and i informed my mother of our intention but to my shock! she said over her dead body would i marry him. she said i have moved out of Nigeria for good and there's no looking back that i should look for someone else here in the states and settle down with. My mum and my aunt had tried matchmaking me with people they deemed fit for me to marry but i made them know that my heart belongs to someone else back in Nigeria. My mum turned the whole family against me and they all would not even give me a listening ear, they say my mum has suffered too much in the past for my siblings and i, and that now i have to make her happy by marrying who she wills. I did what i deemed the best thing at dat moment i travelled down to naija in january this year without notifying any of my family members xcept for my sis who is also my best friend. my bf nd i went down to marriage registry to consolidate our relationship with the hope that my mum would change her mind soon so we can have a white wedding. I returned back to d states after 4weeks only to find out dat my mum had found out frm a friend of her's who saw me @d registry on d day of the marriage. Right now as i write my entire family does not talk to me, my mum had called nd left voice messages saying dat i should neva call her fone or d house fone, nd dat i should nt even attend her funeral should incase she dies. I dont know what to do right now, i mean where or wat did i do wrong by loving a man who loves me equally or even more! i have begged nd sent piple to beg her on my behalf bt all to no avail. plssssssssssssss wat do i do nxt?
I'm sorry if this is coming in late...well i dunno whatever might have caused ur mum to react the way she did and you also d way u did but i guess two wrongs doesn't make a right...if the reason for your mum's refusal is because life wasn't fair on her in nigeria and 'cos of that reacting to whoever you love...then that's very wrong (permit me to say) whether she likes it or yes...Nigeria still flows in her system even if she ends up becoming a citizen or even a governor or congresswoman in the states...she was born and bred in nigeria...everything happens for a reason and if she never suffered back home she may never have met her husband now...everything in life is a puzzle (pls pardon me to say...the death of your dad was also part of the puzzle) she should put all these into consideration...and yes about your bf, well did u ever ask your mum to give very "private" and "convincing" reasons why she didn't accept the guy?...something may have happened and she doesn't wanna say it out....you going ahead to get married without your mum's consent was equally wrong...parents blessings are very essential to the success of a marriage ( call me superstitious) but it's the fact....since u could still live apart from ur bf (i.e return to the states without him) then why the rush for a marriage....why not convince your mum and family even if it'll take a decade...yes!a decade to show how much u really love this guy...remember a thousand broken relatnshps is better than a broken marriage or a broken home...IMHO..Cheers

biofem2000: For those having problem with food in the US, this is my advise. If it doesn`t look farmiliar, do not eat it. If it does look farmiliar, be careful how much you eat. You will soon discover how unhealthy most fast food are and how negatively eating out can affect your health and your pocket. There are too many fat people here and its so easy to become fat here with all the junk and the rest of them.
Here`s a few tip:
In place of egusi, I use sun flower seed. I get that from whole food. You`ll never miss egusi again.
When you buy rice, go for long grain perboiled ( Ha ha ha, i learnt the heard way). If you know someone with Sams club membership, you can get a box of long grain perboiled rice. Otherwise, buy the cheap perboiled long grain rice from walmark.
For beans, not everything that looks like beans is really beans (learnt that too). Go for black eye beans in small sachets at walmart( its your regular white beans)
Look for people who buy in bulk that you can share with.

If you live in the MD area, I can be of help.

Good luck.
Thanks so much...point taken...i stay far away in CA...but i don see naija peeps wey dey put me thru already...sun flower seed...need that badly...egusi levels...
