So how do we explain that?
Ten Millionires Who Committed Suicide
by Julian Crowley
We live in a society filled with dreams and aspirations of wealth, a society that likes to believe that money will bring with it happiness and success. The following men were all successful businessmen who committed suicide. The millions in their bank accounts did nothing to ease their suffering…
10. Jonathan Wraith
Thirty-five-year-old Jonathan Wraith — a young British millionaire by virtue of selling his and his father’s portable cabin business for £30 million ($46 million) — was by all accounts a happy and well-adjusted young man. However, in 2009 he picked up his shotgun and shot himself, leaving no suicide note. No clear reason could be found for Wraith’s action, but there has been some speculation that he was extremely worried about his father David’s recent stroke. It seems that this may have proven too much for the young man to take.
9. Eli M. Black
Eli M. Black, whose death was immortalized on screen in the Coen Brothers comedy The Hudsucker Proxy, was a Jewish-American businessman and millionaire controller of the United Brands Company. An astute and forward thinking capitalist, Black’s career included stints with Lehman Brothers and then the American Seal-Kap Company, which he renamed AMK. The early ’70s saw AMK merge with United Fruit Company. With that, Black’s fate was sealed. His downfall was rooted in the discovery of his $2.5 million bribe offered to the President of Honduras, to reduce export taxes on bananas. Taking matters into his own hands before the scandal broke, Black climbed the 44 floors of his office building and leapt out onto crowded Park Avenue to the horror of onlookers below.
8. Huibert Boumeester
At 49, father-of-two Huibert Boumeester took his own life after becoming seriously depressed in the fallout of the £50 billion ($77 billion) takeover of ABN Amro by the Royal Bank of Scotland. The Dutch millionaire banker’s body was discovered in a woodland area several miles away from his home in London. A suicide note to his wife Frederique that was found on his body read that he could not “go on.” The coroner confirmed that Mr. Boumeester had ended his life while depressed, explaining: “He drove to a very isolated location in woodland, sat down and used the shotgun to end his own life.”
7. Christopher Foster
In August 2008, Christopher Foster, a 50-year-old British businessman, murdered his wife and daughter before burning down his house and killing himself. The businessman shot his wife Jillian and daughter Kirstie, prior to succumbing to smoke inhalation. Foster, wealthy by virtue of his company’s work creating oil rig insulation technology, was nevertheless beset by financial concerns. Despite being a millionaire residing in a five-bedroom country mansion, he was living beyond his means, with debts of £4 million ($6.2 million). It seems that, tragically, these financial worries may well have pushed him over the edge.
6. John Lawrenson
John Lawrenson was a successful businessman who lived in a £1.2 million ($1.8 million) mansion (the Old Rectory, above). He was healthy and seemingly happy, and had earned the right to enjoy the profits from a lucrative life in the publishing world. This all would have been fine, except for one thing: his beloved wife Caroline was dying of cancer. The devoted couple, married for 47 years, poisoned themselves with a substance bought via mail order from Mexico. A suicide note found near their bodies confirms the truth: Mr. Lawrenson could not bear the thought of living alone and decided to take the matter into his own hands.
5. Wayne Pai
Wayne Pai was a successful Taiwanese businessman, and founder and chairman of the securities broker the Polaris Group. In the wake of rumors of insider trading, the nevertheless well respected Pai was found dead in July 2008. His wife and members of Polaris’ staff flew to the outlying island of Penghu to assist police with their inquiries. Pai’s suicide came at a time when allegations were being made that a former president of National Chiao Tung University had been receiving regular payments from Polaris. Pai’s body was found floating in waters surrounding the outlying island.
4. Paul Castle
Paul Castle — a self-styled businessman and property tycoon who had met the Queen of England and played polo with Prince Charles — killed himself in 2010. The 54-year-old threw himself in front of a London Underground train, leaving no chance of survival. The businessman, described as a “workaholic,” had seen several property deals go awry over the last year of his life and had also lost capital in a gas and oil surveying company. Castle, who suffered from chronic heart problems and tumors, had been married three times and was due to be wedded for a fourth time, to his girlfriend Natalie Theo.
3. Peter Smedley
Peter Smedley was an enormously successful millionaire hotelier and businessman with a tinned food empire that provided him with a sizable income. He and his wife Christine — who had been married for 33 years — enjoyed a luxurious lifestyle befitting of their riches. However, Mr. Smedley was also an extremely ill man, suffering from motor neurone disease. He ended his life by his own volition, at an assisted dying organization, the Dignitas clinic, in Switzerland. In a further twist to the story, Mr. Smedley’s death was filmed by the BBC, with segments televised as part of documentary about assisted suicides.
2. Howard Worthington
In an alarming case of destructive emotion, self-proclaimed “lord of the manor” millionaire Howard Worthington shot himself with one of his prized shotguns just moments after shooting his lover Julie Rees. The 52-year-old English former businessman, who made his fortune in the steel industry, had been ordered to stay away from his £1.3 million ($2 million) country home after threatening her with a gun a few weeks prior. While Rees recovered, Worthington did not. Verdict: suicide.
1. ReiJane Huai
Long Island resident and computer software high flyer ReiJane Huai killed himself with a single shot in September 2011. The former president and CEO of FalconStor, a data storage company, had resigned suddenly in 2010 following a lawsuit filed against him. The millionaire committed suicide on the front lawn of the $2.5 million home he shared with his wife, ShuWen. The Taiwanese-born Huai — who had traveled to the USA to study in 1984 — had several adult children living in the US and was described as a “visionary and leader” by a FalconStor spokesman. brainhgeek: @immhotep, I stated very clearly that my claims (just like Reno's claims) are mere assumptions and theories and not facts. They only hold out to substantial evidences from naked history which is accessible to all who care to know the truth. Yorubas don't make noise about it because no one can say it is a fact yet. In fact, many believe that the queen of Sheba came to Nigeria, died in Ijebu ode and was buried there but because there is not substantial fact to prove this, no one is holding on to that as a fact. http://www.informationng.com/2015/06/confirmed-biblical-queen-sheba-died-and-buried-in-nigeria-photos.html .My friend, Yorubas are not into self deceit. They are indeed omoluabi and deep thinkers. The ibos on the other side are yet to come up with a substantial evidence on their self acclaimed connection with Israel. One fact however in this whole argument is that ibos have no genetic connection to Israel. DNA test proved this last year during Kanu's saga. maybe you should read this news to get the shock you did not expect if you have not read it before or have but still refusing to wake up https://forward.com/fast-forward/379533/igbo-men-have-no-known-jewish-dna-controversial-test-shows/
Jonathan Bernis, an Israeli and a Rabbi, in company of three of his compatriots said none of the 124 specimens taken from Nigeria matched the samples in the Houston laboratory which is as old as 17 years in DNA business. Jonathan Bernice said and i quote “Our purpose for providing this DNA testing… was to assist them in their pursuit of truth concerning their historical lineage and identity,” Jonathan Bernis, head of Jewish Voice Ministries International, wrote in an email to the Forward. The DNA test results “did not support their claim to be descendants of the ancient people of Israel… [but] we consider them our brothers through our common faith in the Messiah Yeshua.”
I was in Israel once and I know what a typical Israeli look like, my doubt over all these claims is that 'how much have we (Ibos or Yorubas) evolved over a long time to have diluted our gene pool so much that we have lost total DNA relationship with our alleged Israeli root?' History and cultural evidences are not enough. DNA test will lay all doubts to rest. Lastly, God will not punish you for not being an Israeli or bless you for being one. My pilgrimage made me understand that a lot of aged Israelites are in wheel chairs. Being an Israeli is not a sure bet to blessing from God. Your identity in Christ is |

My parent told me that
Onicha Uku Onicha Olona Onicha Ugbo and Onicha Nmili (Onitsha)
were of the same parent. When they became adult they settled down in where they are today in Delta State. But the brothers had a bitter quarrel and this got Onicha Nmili very angry that he decided to cross the Niger river to settle down where Onitsha is today.
I don't know how true this story is, but Onitsha people has similar dialect with the other Onicha's. that is quite different from other typical Igbo speaking people in the core south east. Onicha Ado N'Idu. |

arcnomec: At Senate Hearing, Emirs, Herdsmen Clash with N’Central, Southern Leaders over Grazing Reserves 6 FG unfolds plan for ranches Senator: Govt has monopoly of violence Omololu Ogunmade in Abuja
Stakeholders at a one-day public hearing on farmers and herdsmen’s clashes organised by the joint Senate Committees on Agriculture and National Security and Intelligence in Abuja were shocked on Tuesday when herdsmen rejected the federal government’s proposal to create ranches for cattle rearing. Stakeholders were even more shocked when prominent Northern leaders threw their weight behind the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association. The government’s proposal was conceived to stop the incessant killings of innocent Nigerians by herdsmen as well as perpetual hostility between the farmers and herdsmen in different parts of the country. However, the herdsmen, under the aegis of Miyetti Allah, pushed for the creation of grazing reserves and routes, which would sustain their nomadic tradition of moving cattle from one part of the country to the other. But representatives of the South-east and North-central zones sharply opposed their submission and threw their weight behind federal government’s presentation by the Minister of State for Agriculture, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, on the government’s plan to create ranches for cattle rearers and consequently restrict their movement. But Miyetti Allah which was represented by its legal adviser, Tukur Bello, asked respective governments and community leaders to “preserve and demarcate trans-human routes and cattle resting points with support from technical and financial partners.” The group also asked the governments to review past interventions and reports, and simultaneously work out a comprehensive development action plan under the auspices of the National Council on Agriculture for the smooth transformation of livestock production, including all actors in the value chain from pastoralists to transporters, markers, consumers and dealers in livestock by-products. They also demanded the creation of a Federal Ministry for Livestock Development in Nigeria in line with practices in most African countries that have a large livestock population like Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, Chad, Cameroun and Central Africa Republic. The group also demanded the funding of grazing reserves development from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) intervention fund and SDG fund, and asked for support from technical financial and development partners like the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of United Nations, European Union and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (lFAD), among others. The submission of Miyetti Allah was strongly supported by the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III; Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, Emir of Zazzau and Emir of Katsina, who were all represented by individuals and affirmed that they had been sent to support the position of cattle rearers. Their position was also supported by Professor Ango Abdullahi and Senator Jubril Aminu who claimed that grazing reserves were created by the late Sardauna of Sokoto, Ahmadu Bello, and should be sustained. But Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which was represented by Mr. Paddy Njoku, opposed Miyetti Allah’s demand for grazing routes, saying the nomadic tradition of raising cattle was archaic and outdated and should be phased out. Njoku also said Ohanaeze supported the idea of ranching as against grazing reserves, and advised the federal government to immediately disarm herdsmen and forthwith commence moves for the rehabilitation of communities. He insisted that cattle rearing was a private business and hence, it would be wrong for the government which belongs to all to deploy state resources to fund it. Earlier in his submission, Lopkobiri said Nigerians needed to embrace the United States and Saudi Arabian models which created ranches for cattle rearing. He said the development made their cattle more productive, pointing out that Saudi Arabia currently produces 4.7 million litres of milk daily for the entire Middle East. Lokpobiri added that restricting the movement of cattle had become imperative if cows were expected to be productive, adding that when ranches are created, cattle will be healthy because they will be provided with water and grass. He also said the development would curtail the spread and transmission of cattle-borne diseases to man. Lokpobiri recalled that when there were repeated cases of conflicts between farmers and herdsmen in the United States, the problem was resolved through the creation of ranches for cattle rearers. He disclosed further that since Saudi Arabia did not have fertile land to grow grass, they contracted the business of growing grass to a United States firm which he said grows the grass for them and periodically exports it to Saudi Arabia. The junior minister also compared cattle rearing in Nigeria with Brazil, noting that whereas Brazil has 220 million cows, Nigeria has less than 19 million, recalling that 415 grazing reserves which once existed in Nigeria had been taken over by buildings and land acquisition. He added that 5,000 hectares of land had been provided by governors from nine states to aid the provision of ranches, disclosing that the land would be well utilised for the provision of boreholes, dams and medical facilities for the treatment of cows. Lokpobiri also said in view of the projection that Nigeria would become the third most populous country in the world, the government had earmarked plans to import animal semen for artificial insemination to aid in the productivity of cattle and avert starvation in future. In his submission, the Chief of Defence of Staff (CDS), Lt.-General Gabriel Olonisakin, who was represented by Major-General Edward Nzeh, said following the presidential order to end the killings by herdsmen, the CDS had cultivated the collaboration of military agencies with paramilitary agencies to tackle the menace. He also said the CDS was working on the establishment of a joint task force to patrol affected areas and simultaneously mop up illegal arms in circulation among herdsmen, adding that the military was working with other security outfits to protect the borders. On his part, the Inspector General of Police (IG), Solomon Arase, who was represented by an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Ibrahim Idris, said sharing borders with neighbouring conflict-prone countries of Cameroun, Niger and Chad had led to the proliferation of arms among herdsmen whom he said migrate to the southern part country. He also said the police are prepared to control the possession of firearms, even as he described cattle rustling as a criminal activity which must be duly punished. The IG also disclosed that 70 cases of cattle rustling had been recorded while 99 conflicts between farmers and herdsmen had also been documented. But contrary to Lokpobiri’s claim that the killers were not Fulani, a representative of Southern Kaduna insisted that killers of Southern Kaduna people were Fulani men whom he said wanted to seize communities in the area. He warned that Southern Kaduna people would resist any attempt to take their land and give to another group of persons. But the chairman of the joint committee, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, interrupted him, saying all land belonged to the federal government and the government reserved the right to take any land anywhere it wishes, threatening further that only “government has the monopoly on violence.”

Business › Re: Here Is Why Cryptocurrency, U.s-dollar Quoted Commodities Drop This Week by wealthtrak: 11:41am On Sep 23, 2021 |
Truth234: The United States is the world's largest economy and cryptocurrency's biggest investor, it means large number of capital inflow into the crypto space are from the United States and with the U.S economy battered and unstable due to COVID-19, foreign policy, etc US investors, mainly institutional investors, have been increasing their investments in crypto space, the new safe haven, in the last one year.
However, on Friday, the U.S commerce department released retail sales report, which measures US consumer spending that contributed over 70% of US GDP estimated at about $13.4 trillion. Retail sales that has been on the decline for months and was predicted to come out at - 0.8%, unexpectedly came out at 0.7% in the month of August.
The unexpected improvement in consumer spending, in fact against the Consumer Confidence report that came out previously, bolstered U.S dollar attractiveness to 94 on dollar index as investors jumped on it and other dollar assets.
Why did investors jump on Dollar and how does it affect crypto and U.S dollar-quoted commodities?
The US dollar rose to a three-week high because capital inflow into American assets jumped as investors started predicting that the Federal Reserve (US central bank) could announce tapering (cutting down on bond buying -quantitative easing) at the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting scheduled to be hold next week.
Quantitative easing is when government is buying debt (bonds) to support the economy. However, when government is cutting bonds purchase, it means the economy has started doing well enough to sustain itself without support.
This is why capital flow out of crypto space rose as institutional investors that are sustaining the crypto are now dumping their money on dollar assets - the very reason dollar value rose since Friday.
Market is about demand and supply, no demand in crypto space means falling/bearish market and demand in dollar means stronger US dollar - I actually bought dollar -sold GBPUSD- on Monday.
Here is why dollar quoted commodities like crude oil dropped. It is simple, because dollar products is now expensive for holders of other currencies. Therefore, demand for crude oil dropped against constant supply.
If FOMC announces tapering earlier than expected next week, crypto could fall even more!

Business › Re: Story Of Ibadan’s First Entrepreneur, Enigmatic Adebisi Idi-ikan: An Unsung Hero by wealthtrak: 8:08am On Sep 23, 2021 |
Queseda: The Nigerian firmament, is replete with the stories of unsung heroes, be it in commerce, politics, enterprise, education, sports, medicine, traditional institutions and so on. Sanusi Adebisi Idikan was an enigmatic personality that traversed Ibadan’s landscape in commerce, engaged in philanthropy and humaneness in the late 19th and 20th centuries. COMING OF THE OFI- CLOTHE WEAVING HERO He was born in 1882, in Ibadan during the reign of Aare Latoosa, the Baale of Ibadan, and died in 1938, during the reign of his bosom friend and Father In Law, Olubadan Okunola Abass Aleshinloye. Despite being the biggest story of his time, Sanusi remained an unsung hero. Adebisi’s father, Adesina, migrated from Efon Alaaye (Ijesha Stock) in present day Ondo State. He was an itinerant Ofi clothe weaver- a traditional Yoruba clothe, earmarked for ceremonies, marriages, burials and so on. He moved to Ibadan with his paternal half-brother- Alabi and settled in Aremo, in the household of Lanase. Ibadan had become then, the most cosmopolitan city in Nigeria and perhaps black Africa. It was secure, accommodating and prosperous. Adesina whilst plying his trade of Ofi weaving, was also spiritual consultant to Alaafin Atiba, who had betrothed his most precious daughter- Princess Ogboja to him, in recognition of Adesina’s great spiritual impact in his life. Adesina, begat three children- Adetinrin, Adeoti and Adebisi. Adetinrin and Adeoti were 20 years and 15 years respectively, older than Adebisi. Adebisi grew up to join his siblings in the hawking of their father’s Ofi clothes in and outside the city of Ibadan. Within a short spade of time, he enlarged the space of the business by hawking the Ofi clothes outside Ibadan- Iwo, Ile Ogbo, Ikire, Oshogbo, Ife, Ondo and even the far flung place of Benin and before the age of 18 years, he became an instant success and even had to retire his siblings from the business. … AND THE COCOA PLANTATIONS FOLLOW Aside Ofi business, he ventured into large scale farming, in Ashipa village, Mamu, where he developed a large cocoa plantation. Cocoa had been introduced into Nigeria since 1874 and had by the 1890s, become Nigeria’s most notable cash crop, most especially in Yoruba land. In Ashipa, he built a farmstead and numerous houses, for his farm workers. The success in the Mamu cocoa plantation, encouraged him to acquire about 200 Acres of land in Apata Ibadan, where he developed another cocoa plantation. ADEBISI BECOMES SOCIETY LEADER In recognition of his success as a cocoa farmer and entrepreneur, he was made the Giwa Egbe (head of the society) by his other successful merchants, like Otiti, Ekolo, Afunleyin, Ladimeji from Isale Ijebu and Adeyemo Owonbuwo from Oopo-yeosa. As Giwa of the society, he added Giwa to his name, to become Sanusi Adebisi Giwa. Sanusi Adebisi Giwa’s acts of philanthropy were demonstrated in his first tax rescue effort in Ibadan. Payment of tax by every male adult was made compulsory by the colonial government. Most Ibadan adults were subsistent farmers, who could not afford the payment of tax and that the punishment for tax evasion was, detention in Mapo, which also served as the Treasury Office. A detained tax defaulter, usually found it difficult to get a contemporary who would bail him out, because most adults were tax evaders and an attempt by a tax evader to bail a tax evader, would certainly land such rescue effort into another detention. TAX EVASION: THE SUICIDE STORY OF BAALE’S SON This tax problem became such an agony, that a Balogun of Ibadan- Balogun Ola, son of Baale Orowusi, would rather commit suicide, than to see Ibadan Young men in perpetual tax agony and detention. This valiant self murder, was recognized by the Ibadan people, who named him Kobomoje (the one who displayed gallantry against timidity) The payment of tax became a social symbol and tax defaulters were usually mocked and despised by the popular song-”Owo ori ti d’ ode o, o o’ode o baba wa loko san” –”payment of taxation has come, our fathers were the first to pay, the idiots and lazy ones who have not paid are in detention in Mapo”- “Awon ode ti o le san o, won nbe lati mole ni Mapo.” Adebisi was displeased with the tax situation in Ibadan. His philosophy had always been- (the rich must help the poor who are vulnerable) Adebisi had at this time been one of the first set of Ibadan elites, perhaps if not the first person, to ride a car, apart from his hordes of horses. ADEBISI SHOCKS COLONIAL TAX OFFICER For effect, he had his horse dispatch rider- Ladimeji, to ride in front of his car, on his way to Mapo, to see the Chief Tax Officer for the Ibadan Colonial Office. In his meeting with the officer in the colonial office, he brokered an understanding- “I want to be paying tax on behalf of every taxable adult in Ibadan”. The officer was shocked, nonplussed and asked him, if he knew the financial implication of his gesture? But he still insisted on paying. Henceforth, the colonial officer would calculate the amount of tax expected from all Ibadan taxable adults and would go to Adebisi Idikan’s residence to collect the money. SALAMI AGBAJE JOINS ADEBISI Ibadan of this era had certainly produced Salami Agbaje and Adebisi Idikan as its two wealthiest citizens. Salami Agbaje was born in Lagos in 1880, to Arowodu, an Arabic migrant from Iseyin. His mother was an Ibadan woman and he had begun his early life as a tailor, apprentice driver and later a sawyer. He eventually supplied all the timbers (slippers) needed for the Lagos-Ibadan railway, between 1898 and 1901, when fortune smiled on him. Ibadan train station was opened in 1901. His fortune in the timber business encouraged him to venture into the newly, money spinning cocoa market. However, whilst Sanusi Adebisi indulged his money in philanthropy, Salami indulged his own, in the education of his children and had produced the first Ibadan Medical Doctor- Dr. Saka Anthony Agbaje, Mojeed Agbaje, First Ibadan Lawyer, a retired Supreme Court Judge, Gani Agbaje and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria- Yekeen Agbaje. As an acknowledgement of these two great wealthy men, a notable Ibadan diarist- Akinpade Obisesan, in his diary in 1922 noted: “nobody in this town will revere anyone of no-means, he would be counted as no-man, the great presents made to us, forced me to recognise that Messers Agbaje and Adebisi are being held in high esteem- after all, what is our intelligence, our school going and reading of books, without getting money to back these three things” Akinpade Obisesan, after he retired from the Lagos railway, had returned to Ibadan, where he worked in many European mercantile firms and also made efforts to establish himself as a trader, like Adebisi and Salami. In furtherance of his aspiration, he ordered a book entitled: Six Hundred Ways to Get Rich” from a book seller in the United States. However, despite the book knowledge, the burden entrepreneur could still not make it in the way of Salami Agbaje and Adebisi Idikan. Fortune is a product of not only hard work, but mother luck. IBADAN’S FIRST UNIVERSITY GRADUATE Bishop Alexander Babatunde Akinleye, was Ibadan’s first University Graduate in 1912 and founded Ibadan’s first Secondary School- Ibadan Grammar School in 1913. Two of Adebisi’s children- Azeez Zakariyyah and Salawu Adebisi had attended Ibadan Grammar School under Bishop Akinleye. There were usually, no higher schools in Ibadan, after Ibadan Grammar School. WHY ADEBISI REJECTED UNIVERSITY EDUCATION FOR HIS CHILDREN Bishop Akinleye had visited Salami Adebisi, to encourage him and also to intimate him, on the prospect of gaining a university admission for his two sons in Europe, who had just left his college, with the hope that it would be an encouragement to other Ibadan wealthy men. But Adebisi, whilst thanking Bishop Akinleye for his concern and also acknowledging his episcopal visit, told the Bishop and Principal, that he would not like to expose his children, to the danger associated with schooling abroad. According to him, the man of means would always employ the man of knowledge. Around 1920, the Miller brothers of the United Kingdom, arrived Ibadan looking for business prospects, opportunities and business associates. They needed a native of immense wealth, who could be an intermediary and associate. Sanusi even though unlettered, had secretaries and Personal Assistants, who were lettered. THE MILLER BROTHERS ENGAGE HIM The Miller brothers made him their Factor. Whatever goods imported to Nigeria by the Miller brothers, would reach Ibadan, the main depot, for Adebisi to chat its mode of distribution and marketing, as its main distributor and marketer. Adebisi’s fortune soared and the Miller brothers, became a conglomerate and a multi-national. Adebisi later became a share holder in the multi-national and Miller brothers, later changed their name to United African Company (U.A.C) HOW HE JOINED TRADITIONAL RULING CLASS Adebisi, having traversed the world of business, commerce, enterprise and philanthropy, he needed to expand his frontiers, by joining the traditional ruling elites of Ibadan. As Ibadan’s notable wealthy man, he approached the reigning monarch- Baale Shittu Aare in 1924 for a Chieftaincy title, which Baale gladly obliged. Unfortunately, before he could be conferred with the chieftaincy title, Baale Shittu Aare was on May 1925, deposed by the Alaafin of Oyo- Oba Shiyanbola Ladigbolu, for “disloyalty and having an unsatisfactory attitude.” As the diarist Akinpelu saw the matter, Shittu was” wrongfully and wickedly deposed”. Baale Shittu Aare, remained in Oyo for a year and was then deported further north to Shaki where he died in 1935. His corpse was returned to Ibadan to be buried in his compound- Ile Latoosa. Aare was succeeded by Baale Oyewole Foko in 1925. On the 26th of November, 1926, Adebisi was installed, the Ashaju Baale of Ibadan, jumping about 10 lines on the rung of the ladder- Otun Olubadan (civil) line. Money “is the god of the world” rhapsodised Akinpelu Obisesan. In June 1925, the foundation stone of Mapo Hall was laid by Alaafin Shiyanbola Ladigbolu and the British Resident- Captain W.A Ross. ADEBISI UNDERSCORES THE INFLUENCE OF MONEY At this impressive ceremony, Adebisi was gorgeously dressed in flamboyant traditional attires, with befitting caps to match, which caught the instant admiration of the British Resident. Alaafin Shiyanbola Ladigbolu accused Adebisi of stealing the show. Before Alaafin Ladigbolu left Ibadan, for Oyo, he dropped a message for Baale Shittu, that Adebisi must see him in Oyo and that when coming, Adebisi must come along with him, the apparel- clothes, cap and shoes used when he met the Resident governor-Captain W.A Ross. Sensing danger, Adebisi refused to go, but rather, sent a truck load of clothes, food items and drinks with an emissary, led by his senior sister- Adetinrin, who was a sparkling beauty. Having assuaged the ego of Iku Baba Yeye, he later paid him a visit where he was heralded with songs and drums. Adebisi who had earlier been targeted for extinction, became Alaafin Ladigbolu’s favourite friend, amiable consult and loyalist. Sanusi Adebisi having joined the Otun Olubadan line from the 11th on the rung of the ladder, of 22 lines, later shortly thereafter, rose to become the Ashipa in 1936, and was installed by the incumbent Olubadan- Abass Okunola Aleshinloye, who succeeded Oyewole Foko, in 1930 as the new Olubadan of Ibadan. Akinpelu Obisesan, again, dumbfounded by Adebisi’s meteoric rise, wrote in his diary_ “Adebisi rose from the rank of political servants to the rank of political masters. Surely, money is the god of the world; in this way, he fulfilled one of his life’s greatest ambitions.” With the Ashipa title in the Olubadan line, Adebisi had just few steps into becoming the Olubadan of Ibadan land. Oba Abass Okunola Aleshinloye in further recognition of Adebisi’s Wealth and philanthropy, also gave his beloved daughter in marriage to him. Oba Abass Aleshinloye, had promoted Adebisi three times, within six years. Adebisi having been impressed with the construction of Mapo hall in 1925, also started the construction of his own mansion in 1927- an edifice that looked like Mapo Hall in elegance, grandeur and splendour. The architectural design and construction of the Adebisi mansion, could only be found in Europe. The building/mansion was simply non-pariel, i.e. no equal, that it was the folk tale that “eni ti o ba fe ko iru ile Adebisi, ko tin i ile ko” meaning- “he who wants to build a house like Adebisi’s mansion, is not ready to build any house”. The top of the triangular dome was designed with an elephant, which is engraved “S.A.G” abbreviation for Sanusi Adebisi Giwa. The Mapo Hall was commissioned in October 5, 1929 and Adebisi’s Mansion was opened before the opening of Mapo Hall. Both buildings were constructed by Europeans, and a local Engineer- Mr Carew (Keru), with some foreign professional builders and Engineers working as a consortium. THE MAN OF GENEROSITY Sanusi Adebisi was a man of excessive generosity, whose milk of human kindness was ceaseless. Coming from a visit from Ede, where he had gone to see the reigning Monarch- the Timi of Ede, he saw a handcuffed man, being taken to the Agodi prison yard Ibadan, by some prison warders. He stopped to ask for the man’s offence- he was a debtor. Adebisi there and then instructed the warders to follow him to collect the money and release the debtor. Despite Adebisi’s intervention, the freed debtor, refused to leave Adebisi’s household and stated that he would rather remain and live with him, as one of his boys and this Adebisi gladly obliged. Adebisi’s driver- Ereola, was reported to him by some jealous folks for stealing Adebisi’s money and had used proceeds of that theft in building a house. Adebisi promised to investigate the matter. The following morning, he challenged the driver- Ereola and asked him to take him straight to the house he was building. On reaching the site, he saw the building construction going on and the builders were shocked to see Ereola’s master. Unbelievably, Adebisi asked the builders to start dismantling the structure already constructed and start to rebuild it in the mode that would befit Ereola’s master- Adebisi. Adebisi directed the builders to go into his building material stores at Ogunpa and ordered them to go and collect thousands of blocks and all the necessary building materials, like roofing sheets and so on. At completion, Ereola’s house became a cynosure of all eyes and also broke the record, as the first lowly person in Ibadan, to build a house of blocks, that was incomparable. Adebisi had a legendary style of writing off debts, without being prompted. He would ask his secretary / personal assistant- Adesokan, to read out the names of debtors and how much they owed. He would tear the pages and order for a match stick. He would strike the match stick and burn all the papers containing the debtors names. He would write off the debts whilst saying- “nobody likes to be a debtor”. Aside from his foray into the Ibadan traditional ruling council, he also became the President of the Ibadan Land Court in 1936. At the Land Court, he displayed exceptional brilliance, humaneness and deep knowledge of the Ibadan traditional Justice system. He would rather arbitrate a dispute, and would always prefer a fine option to a jail sentence. At this period, Captain Ward Price, an Ibadan apologist, had succeeded Captain W.A Ross, as the Resident of Ibadan. HIS GLORIOUS EXIT Adebisi in ill health, had visited the then renowned surgeon- Dr Doherty in Lagos. He was advised by the surgeon, to stay in Lagos for three weeks in order to reduce his stressful activities. In order to stay in Lagos for three weeks, he bought a house at 34, Whitman Street, Ebute Meta in Lagos, to enjoy a well-deserved rest. In January, 1938, in his last few moments, he brought out money to assist insolvent debtors. He brought out the papers containing the debtors’ names, tore and burnt them, without anyone noticing any premonition. After a brief illness of some few hours, he joined the saints triumphant on Friday June 21, 1938, at the age of 56 Years, and such was the glorious exit of the unparalleled, uncommon benefactor and philanthropist, who had impacted on souls and communities,- the Ibadan communities, Ibadan societies, Western Region and Nigeria. In the Ibadan folklore- “Ile Adebisi lati je Malu tawo tawo, awa o je dodo, nile Salami”, meaning-it is in Adebisi’s house that cow meat is eaten wholly with its skin, while we have not eaten fried plantain in the house of Salami (another notable Ibadan wealthy man of Adebisi’s generation). This piece is in response to a clarion call for the celebration of the times and lives of men, who had impacted successfully on the society and who had also made life worth living for the less privileged of their times, as a demonstration of how best to live a worthy and exemplary life. Human memory being short, the likes of Adebisi Idikan must be continually applauded and celebrated at all times! Sanusi Adebisi Giwa Akanji Idikan, Omo Ogboja, may your soul continually find peaceful repose with the Lord.

Politics › Re: CBN Lists Benefits Of Its Digital Currency, E-naira In Financial System by wealthtrak: 10:17am On Sep 10, 2021 |
milann: The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said that its soon to be launched digital currency, e-Naira, will strengthen the stability of the banking system as deposits become more diversified when more people are banked.
The Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) will also make it easier for the banking system to comply with existing laws such as anti-money laundering, customer protection against fraud and ensuring the safety and stability of the payment system.
This was made known by CBN’s Deputy Governor, Operations, Mr Folashodun Shonubi, at the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) advocacy dialogue series 4 webinar held on Thursday in Lagos.
The theme of the event was, ‘Central Bank Digital Currencies: Insights for the 21st Century Banker.’
What the Deputy Governor of CBN said
Shonubi said, “The Central Bank in its implementation has ensured the e-Naira feeds our economy and provides greater value.
“The central bank digital currency offers all the benefits of cash but in digital form. Every single digital currency is an electronic version of the cash, the legal tender. When you make a cash payment, settlement is done instantly; digital currencies entail the same promises and even more.
“CBDC offers a safer option from the privately issued cryptocurrency which have been based on the possibility to enable cheaper transactions but have now been used for investment.
“The intention is not to eliminate other forms of payment but to complement the current areas of payment options, thereby ensuring the stability of the payment system in the long run.
I expect in the coming days we will see rapid inclusion rates.
“For banks in developing nations, it will enhance their liquidity, efficiency in national remittances and challenge the high cost of remittances as the world rebounds in the post-pandemic. I am of the view that the era of CBDC promotes greater opportunities, and the central bank must be aware of the risks and mitigate them.”
Speaking at the event, Lamido Yuguda, the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), one of the key players in the successful operation of the digital currency, said that the e-Naira, which is about to be launched in October, would help improve the capital market when combined with vibrant inter-developmental policies, which would lead to financial inclusion, especially in the capital market.
The SEC boss said, “This is an opportunity for the fintech market to connect our people to existing opportunities in the financial market, connecting our people with investment opportunities in other climes. Once we do that, we would grow our market, Nigeria has 200 million people. We are blessed with a hardworking youthful population.
“This capital market would in turn finance the necessary infrastructure investment that this country needs today.”
What you should know
Recall that on July 27, 2021, the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, after the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting, confirmed the launch of its digital currency (e-Naira) pilot program in October. He also spoke on the importance of eNaira in Africa’s largest economy that included cross-border trade facilitation, financial inclusion, monetary policy effectiveness, improved payment efficiency, revenue tax collection, remittance improvement, and targeted social interventions.
Earlier in September, SEC, which had sought to regulate crypto on the grounds that they qualify as securities transactions, disclosed that the recent launch of the country’s digital currency, e-naira, is the result of its engagement with the CBN.
https://nairametrics.com/2021/09/10/cbn-lists-benefits-of-its-digital-currency-e-naira-in-financial-system/ China is one of the major countries that have adopted the digital currency format. More countries will follow but if you don't have an economy with the right fundamentals then this is going to beuseless. Period! |

Romance › Re: How To Know If A Girl Likes You – Ladies Deepest Secrets Revealed by wealthtrak: 6:45am On Aug 20, 2021 |
Writercruze: Girls are beautiful creatures. Yet they are very complicated to handle. Sometimes, it’s almost impossible to know if a lady is into you. But in this article, you will learn how to know if a girl likes you.
Understanding a lady is more complicated than engineering mathematics. It’s a puzzle most guys find extremely difficult to crack.
Ladies manifest their love for you in different ways. Annoyingly, they expect you to understand their body language.
A friend of mine once asked a lady out, and the lady outrightly declined. He tried for a while, and she said no. The guy started dating another girl because the one he initially asked out rejected him.
Guess what happened? The girl came back to my friend that she loves him just that she was trying to play hard to get. It sounds funny, huh? Well, that’s how ladies behave…
So, here are some tricky ways to know if a girl likes you.
How to Know If a Girl Likes You
#1. When She Always Smiles at You
One of the green lights girls give when they like you is to always smile at you. Whenever you are having a conversation with her, she smiles at you a lot.
Once you see a lady smiling at you always, there are chances that she likes you. However, I would advise you not to rush things. Just take your time and follow the flow.
Like I mentioned earlier, ladies are very complicated sometimes. So, it will be unwise to ask her out because she smiled at you one or two times.
The smile must be natural and real. I mean, the ones that crinkle up her eyes
#2. She Finds Whatever You Say Funny
When a girl always laughs at whatever you say, it’s a sign that she likes you. And when both of you spend most of the time laughing and cracking jokes together, the bond will become stronger.
My friend (John) once told me that he didn’t ask his first girlfriend out. He was always cracking her up with funny jokes.
Sometimes, they will spend time together saying funny things and laughing out loud.
However, one afternoon, when they were together, the girl kissed him. Guess what? That was how the relationship started.
Surprisingly, that girl became his wife, and they are both happy together. Most times, love happens in the least expected ways.
#3. She Always Feels Uneasy When She Meets Your eyes
Another tip on how to know if a girl likes you is when she feels Uneasy whenever she meets your eyes.
Some girls will always want to shoot a short glance at you when you are with them.
But they don’t want you to know that they are looking at you. That’s why they always feel uneasy when they meet your eyes.
Although a girl can still love you and confidently look at your eyes, it’s not common…
#4. She Always Notices You
When a girl likes you, she notices you even in the crowd. She observes you from a distance and will always commend your actions.
However, ladies may notice you differently in different situations. But the important thing is that when a lady always notices you from a crowd, it’s an indication that he loves.
#5. She Always Licks Her Lips When She’s With You
You don’t need a soothsayer to know that a girl likes you when she licks her lips whenever she’s with you. It’s an obvious green light that ladies usually give when they are attracted to you.
According to experts, when a lady licks her lips, it’s a way of drawing your attention to her lips. In other words, she is inviting you to kiss her.
However, you have to be patient when interpreting some of these signs. And try as much as possible not to take action too early. Again, sometimes, when a lady licks her lips frequently, it could just be a bad habit. But if she’s doing it because she wants you to take action, you will be able to interpret it.
#6. She Always Enjoys Your Company
When a lady likes you, she will always want to be around you. She will have a great conversation with you and even tell you some of her deepest secrets. And when you speak, she will give you full attention.
#7. She Gets Really Jealous When You Flirt With Other Girls
When a lady likes you, she tends to get jealous when she sees other girls around you. She may not react immediately when she sees you flirting with other girls.
But she will bring up the topic later in the future to confirm if the lady in question is your lover. She may say something like, “Please leave me alone so that your girlfriend, I saw the other day would not break my head.”
A statement like this may seem like a joke to you. But she’s indirectly asking if you are in a relationship with the girl she saw you with the other time.
#8. She Always Put Her Hand On Your Thigh
Another tip on how to know that a girl likes you is when she put her hands on your thigh too often. If she only does it once, it could be an honest mistake. But if she repeats the same action regularly, she may be trying to send you a greenlight.
Most times, guys usually feel uncomfortable and nervous when a lady places her hand on their thigh. But the players will keep calm and look into the girl’s eyes for the next action.
#9. She Jokily Asks You Out for a Date
When a lady tells you to go out for a date with her jokily, she may be indirectly telling you to ask her out. As a rule, don’t get too excited when she casually asks you out for a date. But if she keeps pushing for it, you can make the first move.
Sometimes, a girl can even playfully tell you that “we will look good together as a couple.” Even though she says it casually, it could be an indirect way of telling you she likes you.
#10. She’s Fond of Touching Whenever You Are With Her
This is another helpful tip on how to know if a girl likes you once you notice that a girl is fond of touching you whenever you are together; it a sign that she ones to be with you.
Depending on the girl, she can come up with different excuses to touch you. Whatever her reasons are, when the touch is becoming too frequent, it’s an indication that she wants you to ask her out.
#11. Her Friends Indirectly Give You Clues That She Likes You
Sometimes, her friends may give you a lot of clues that she loves you. In fact, it’s one of the most straightforward tips on how to know if a girl likes you.
What her friends do or how they react when you are around them can give you a clue of what she’s been telling them in your absence.
Some of the ways her friends will behave to give you a clue about a lady’s fondness for you are;
1. They also glance at you when you are approaching them.
2. Sometimes, they may be smiling when they see you.
3. Her friends tend to tease her a lot when you are together.
4. She is always not comfortable around her friends when you are with her. It could be that she’s afraid that any of her friends may unconsciously tell you the truth.
Conclusion
Once you understand these tips on how to know if a girl likes you, you will not always find yourself in the friendzone. Also, if you fail to take action when a lady sends you a greenlight/signal, you will end up being a ‘bestie’.
And we all know that nothing breaks the heart more than seeing the girl you love so much in a relationship with another guy and call you her ‘bestie’.

lindaikeji: Parents of the secondary school students, who were attacked in an Ekene Dili Chukwu luxury bus at the Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State have resolved to take the transport company to court. The parents, who met yesterday at the St. Agnes Catholic Church, Maryland, Lagos said they were suing the company for negligence.
The chairman of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), Lagos branch, Mr. Cyril Akinyeli, who addressed newsmen, said based on the conducts of the transport company and the revelation of their negligence of the children placed under their care, the PTA had no other alternative than to take the company to court. The PTA chairman, who explained why the company must be taken to the court, said: “Two days to the fateful Saturday, we have paid the transport company and they assured us of a sound vehicle.”
He said the manager of the transport company in Enugu assured him that the company had made arrangement for a good vehicle. He said he was shocked when he called on Saturday and he was told that the vehicle broke down.“Even when our children begged the driver that they should stop over at Ore as they had been warned of robbery attacks on the road, the driver said his bus had been booked for Sunday.”
He denied the reports that their children were raped saying, “only one woman said the robbers made attempt to rape her and when she told them she was pregnant, they allowed her to go. On why some students were with bloodstains when they arrived Lagos on Sunday he said: “The blood stains were that of bullet wounds sustained by some of them.” However, more revelations continued to trail the attack as more victims narrated their ordeals. One of the parents, who was in the bus during the robbery attack, told the gathering how she escaped being raped by the hoodlums.
According to her (names withheld), when the armed robbers stopped the vehicle and ordered the occupants to alight, the occupants obeyed. She said while they were out of the bus, they began to hear gunshots and the armed robbers who suspected that the gunshots were from the police, ordered the passengers to go back into the vehicle. She said while about 25 occupants had entered, the armed robbers zoomed off with those already in the bus leaving many others on the road. She said when the robbers had driven a reasonable distance inside the bush, the driver of the bus was ordered to stop.
According to her, “immediately the driver stopped, the robbers ordered everybody out of the vehicle again and warned us to strip ourselves, which we did. The robbers tried to rape me but I told them that I was pregnant.” Continuing, she said: “As I told them that I was pregnant, they left me alone and I regained my freedom.” On whether she saw any other person being raped, she said: “I can only speak for myself, I was not raped. They made attempt but I told them that I was pregnant and they left me alone.”
The woman, who blamed the transport company for carelessness that made them to be attacked, said they begged the driver to stop over at Ore, but he refused. Another male parent, who simply identified himself as Sunday narrated how he went through hell trying to make sure that the lives of the children were saved. He said on the fateful Saturday, he and other parents had gone to the Ekene Dili-Chukwu park at Jibowu, Lagos to pick their children but were disappointed that at 3.00pm, the bus had not arrived.
He said when he made enquiries, he discovered that the vehicle broke down on the way and he quickly informed the manager. He said at about 7.30pm, the manager arranged for another vehicle to go and pick up the children. He said he was one of the three parents who volunteered to follow the new bus to Ondo State. He said when they arrived Ondo, the driver of the faulty bus ordered the new bus back to Lagos, claiming that the broken down bus had been repaired. According to him, on their way back in the bus conveying the students, many drivers and some policemen were warning the driver to return to Ore that armed robbers were operating on the way.
He said: “Our driver refused to stop saying that the vehicle has been booked as the first bus to go back to the East on Sunday. We begged him to heed the advice of his fellow drivers and the police but he refused.” He said when the robbers barricaded the road, the driver ran away leaving them to their fate.“He even abandoned the key to the vehicle in the ignition. “I was among the 17 passengers left on the road, whether the robbers raped anybody in the bush, I cannot tell but nobody was raped in my presence,” he said.
Nice one Fact-checking is very critical in the mainstream media and offline. |
