RomanceRe: "I Was With Him Through Thick And Thin" by Welrez(m): 12:38pm On Dec 21, 2019
Ginaz:
Please what I hate most is general misconceptions. It’s not every woman who did nothing while the man was hustling , some women literally did odd jobs , side hustles and other things to make their lives better .

Some went to school, really hustle as much as the man. I hate stupid talks like these , do you people think women are brainless and useless? Majority I see Omo, dem Dey hustle and their bfs broke like mad.

You guys should stop preaching what you don’t know . My mom’s friend is a hustler , singlehandedly paid for rent for those years the guy was broke and hustling , did one or two things for the ungrateful guy only for him to abscond with another girl . Wasted her youthful years for nothing.

As for now sef, I won’t advise any girl to put up with a guy for any reasons cos of statements like these.

Some mumu will just write up and come to say you only asked for Brazilian hairs and shoes like they knew you or stayed with you in the house to know that.

All the girls I Dey see for street dem Dey hustle . Dem be hustlers , they gat dreams. Stop the stereotype!!!!

Just as there are good for nothing men, there are good for nothing women too.

On a ratio of 80% , girls Dey hustle even in relationships.
The danger of the single story. Unfortunately, it is the norm with the narrow-minded.
EducationRe: Ability To Speak English Is Truly A Measure Of Intelligence by Welrez(m): 7:18pm On Dec 08, 2019
Verbal-linguistics intelligence is measured through different verbal fluency tests or, simply put, one's language proficiency or one's ability to learn a new language. Therefore, one's proficiency in English is, technically, a measure of an intelligence.

Nairaland GeneralEtiquette Tips by Welrez(op):
I saw this post on Facebook and felt it would be nice to share it with a larger audience, especially in times like this that etiquette seems to be on the decline in the society. Have a nice read.

ETIQUETTE :

1. Don’t call someone more than twice continuously. If they don’t pick up your call, presume they have something important to attend to;

2. Return money that you have borrowed even before the other person remembers asking for it from you. It shows your integrity and character. Same goes with umbrellas, pens and lunch boxes;

3. Never order the expensive dish on the menu when someone is giving you a lunch/dinner. If possible ask them to order their choice of food for you;

4. Don’t ask awkward questions like ‘Oh so you aren’t married yet?’ Or ‘Don’t you have kids’ or ‘Why didn’t you buy a house?’ Or why don't you buy a car? For God’s sake it isn’t your problem;

5. Always open the door for the person coming behind you. It doesn’t matter if it is a guy or a girl, senior or junior. You don’t grow small by treating someone well in public;

6. If you take a taxi with a friend and he/she pays now, try paying next time;

7. Respect different shades of opinions. Remember what's 6 to you will appear 9 to someone facing you. Besides, second opinion is good for an alternative;

8. Never interrupt people talking. Allow them to pour it out. As they say, hear them all and filter them all;

9. If you tease someone, and they don’t seem to enjoy it, stop it and never do it again. It encourages one to do more and it shows how appreciative you're;

10. Say “thank you” when someone is helping you.

11. Praise publicly. Criticize privately;

12. There’s almost never a reason to comment on someone’s weight. Just say, “You look fantastic.” If they want to talk about losing weight, they will;

13. When someone shows you a photo on their phone, don’t swipe left or right. You never know what’s next;

14. If a colleague tells you they have a doctors' appointment, don’t ask what it’s for, just say "I hope you’re okay". Don’t put them in the uncomfortable position of having to tell you their personal illness. If they want you to know, they'll do so without your inquisitiveness;

15. Treat the cleaner with the same respect as the CEO. Nobody is impressed at how rude you can treat someone below you but people will notice if you treat them with respect;

16. If a person is speaking directly to you, staring at your phone is rude;

17. Never give advice until you’re asked;

18. When meeting someone after a long time, unless they want to talk about it, don’t ask them their age and salary;

19. Mind your business unless anything involves you directly - just stay out of it;

20. Remove your sunglasses if you are talking to anyone in the street. It is a sign of respect. Moreso, eye contact is as important as your speech; and

21. Never talk about your riches in the midst of the poor. Similarly, don't talk about your children in the midst of the barren...or talk about your spouses around those who don't have.

No, manually, through the exams and records unit. It took them a week to get my department to forward my details to them, another one week to put the transcript in place, and the last week was consumed on the courier. I paid 5k then but it is now 7k if the transcript is to be sent to another institution.

PoliticsRe: David Lyon Kicks Off His Campaign At Ogbia LGA, Bayelsa (Pictures) by Welrez(m):
If PDP loses this election, it is entirely Dickson's fault. The imposition of candidates has made a lot of Bayelsans sceptical about the PDP's ability to bring about genuine development in the state. A lot of Bayelsans see an election of Senator Diri as a direct continuation of Dickson's privation governance. The imposition of an Urhobo as senator Diri's vice does not sit well with many Bayelsans. I see PDP losing this election to Dickson's foolishness.

Remove electricity from the exclusive list and let's do away with the national grid. Everything nationally owned has a way of being supplied ineficiently and exploitatively in Nigeria. It is easier for citizens to hold states accountable for their electricity needs than the FG.

Science/TechnologyRe: Busted: Nigerian ‘Inventors’ Whose Claims Turned Out To Be False (Photos) by Welrez(m): 3:15pm On Sep 02, 2019
Neoteny:
You're contradicting yourself

Your initial statement was that lack of infrastructure was the the detriment to our self-important academics' failure to achieve anything of note

I argued that infrastructure, whatever you mean by it, is not that important and mentioned Einstein's genius and how he changed prior thinking of quantum physics, astrophysics, etc, using only his mind and mathematics (some of which was done for him) without the sort of infrastructure you no doubt meant. And I also pointed out how Einstein's contributions in photoelectric effects got him the Nobel Prize without inventing anything.

So you then argued that he worked in the patent office and thus was exposed to the works of others, as if he plagiarized his ideas, to which I said theoretical physics is not something that one comes across at the patent office.

And that's around the time you did an about-turn to muddle your point.

I'm not responsible for your apparent confusion
The emboldened is not mine. I never mentioned a thing like that. Wow!!!
Science/TechnologyRe: Busted: Nigerian ‘Inventors’ Whose Claims Turned Out To Be False (Photos) by Welrez(m): 12:55pm On Sep 02, 2019
Neoteny:
You're contradicting yourself

You implied that Einstein's working at the patent office predisposed him to radical new ideas which arguably formed the bedrock of his contributions to physics, and hence his Nobel Prize.

And I countered that theoretical physics is not patentable, it's only recognizable. I also said we don't need some fancy "infrastructure" to come up with novel new ideas in the body of knowledge; all we need are the visionaries, the dreamers, the curious, the driven....not the current pack of lazy, indolent, politicized academics who believe more in titles than discoveries.

But now you're changing tack.

When you say something, own up to it and admit when wrong. That's how we learn.
When I responded to that topic, I based my contribution on inventions. Theoretical Physics was off my mind. Even when I mentioned the Nobel Prize or a Global Prize, it was still in that context. Even in that context, I didn't totally ruled out the possibility of big inventions being made by Nigerians here in Nigeria, but I said it would be rare due to certain infrastructure which I didn't mention. You bringing in Albert Einstein in the reply was digression and an act of putting a word in my mouth and using it to crucify me. Maybe Economists need inventions to win a Nobel Prize. So don't tell me I am contradicting myself.
Science/TechnologyRe: Busted: Nigerian ‘Inventors’ Whose Claims Turned Out To Be False (Photos) by Welrez(m): 11:03am On Sep 02, 2019
Neoteny:
You don't have to invent something to win the Nobel Prize. Einstein did not invent a thing, all he did was think hard and have someone else do the math. And the only infrastructure he needed was his brain, a pad of paper and some light.
I didn't say that you needed inventions to win a Nobel Prize. I only said that the type that merits such awards would be difficult to achieve in our environment. Even then, there was no outright ruling out of such possibility. A theoretical physicist does not need to make any inventions to win the Nobel Prize and quite a number of them have won the Nobel Prize, ranging from Albert Einstein to Richard Feynman. Even then, the essence of inventions is not to win prizes but to contribute to the improvement of humanity as well as expand our understanding of the universe. Shalom.
