Politics / Atiku’s Running Mate: PDP Raises Panel As Wike, Okowa Lobby For VP Slot by Weneda(m): 10:24am On Jun 10, 2022
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and his Delta State counterpart, Ifeanyi OkawaThe All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday stepped up moves to choose running mates for their presidential candidates.

The PDP set up a committee comprising its governors, the National Working Committee and the Board of Trustees members as well as former governors with the mandate of picking its vice-presidential candidate.

The committee met on Wednesday and Thursday in Abuja. The PDP spokesman, Debo Ologunagba, confirmed the setting up of the committee to The PUNCH last night.

It was gathered that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his Delta State counterpart, Ifeanyi Okowa, had intensified lobby of the PDP stakeholders as part of moves to clinch the post.
On his part, the APC presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, began the search for his running mate with a meeting with northern governors.

As Tinubu met northern governors, the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday gave parties June 17 deadline to submit the names of their presidential candidates and running mates.

The commission had on May 27 extended the deadline for parties to conduct primaries from June 4 to June 9.
It also fixed June 17 as the deadline for parties to submit lists of their candidates.

At the PDP primary held on May 29, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who emerged as the presidential candidate, polled 371 votes while his closest challenger, Wike, came second with 237 votes.

On Wednesday, Tinubu defeated aspirants including a former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and the Vice-President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo.
The PUNCH had on Thursday reported that Atiku met with the PDP governors as part of efforts to pick his running mate.

Ologunagba in the interview with The PUNCH, indicated that the PDP would announce its vice-presidential candidate next week.

He, however, declined to reveal the names of those being considered as the running mate.

He said, “Yes, we have set up a committee on the running mate; when it comes out with its decision, it would be announced. We don’t do things by speculations. There is a process, we don’t work without planning. We would follow due process, we consult, that’s what we are doing.
“When we are done with consultations, you would hear the outcome. Whether they met today (Thursday), whether they didn’t meet, that’s not relevant. When they have done their work, you would know the outcome.”

When asked about the names of the committee members, Ologunagba stated, “You don’t need the names. All the organs of our party are represented: the National Working Committee, the Governors Forum, the Board of Trustees, and the Former Governors Forum are all represented. All the organs of the party and relevant stakeholders are involved in the consultations.”

On the efforts to reconcile the aspirants who lost during the primaries, the party said a reconciliation process was ongoing.

Wike
It was gathered that Wike and Okowa had reached out to their fellow governors as part of efforts to clinch the post.

A close source to Wike told The PUNCH that the governor was in Abuja lobbying to be named Atiku’s running mate.

The source stated, “The governor is not in town as we speak. It is not out of place if he is pushing to become the running mate of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
correspondents if his principal should be picked as the vice presidential running mate, although Ebiri picked his call, he did not speak. He also did not reply a text message sent to him

Okowa
On his part, the Chief Press Secretary to the Delta State governor, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, confirmed that the governor was one the people being tipped as Atiku’s running mate.

Ifeajika said Okowa was eminently qualified for the post. He said, “Yes, they (governors) met yesterday and today, Thursday, in Abuja. Of course, it is no longer news that the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is among the people being tipped as the running mate.
“Okowa is one those being considered. He is not only eminently qualified but acceptable by all. If there is an election, all governors, even those in the APC, will attest that Okowa is the best man for the position. He has worked hard for it.”

A source close to the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, told The PUNCH that the governor believed the party should pick somebody who could mobilise votes for the party.

Meanwhile, the PDP presidential candidate on Thursday met with some former PDP governors.
Those who attended the meeting included Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Emeka Ihedioha (Imo); Olagunsoye Oyinlola (Osun); Chimaroke Nnamani (Enugu); Achike Udenwa (Imo); Theodore Orji (Abia); Celestine Omehia (Rivers); Ibrahim Idris (Kogi); Sam Egwu (Ebonyi); Fidelis Tapgun (Plateau), Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta); Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara); Sule Lamido (Jigawa) and Boni Haruna (Adamawa)Others were Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna), Ibrahim Shema (Katsina) Lyel Imoke (Cross River) Jim Nwobodo (Enugu); Attahiru Bafarawa (Sokoto) and Babangida Aliyu (Niger).

The meeting which was held at Jimmy Carter, Asokoro, Abuja, focused on how to strengthen the opposition party amidst the crisis rocking some state chapters of the party.
The PUNCH also gathered that Atiku was also scheduled to meet with former ministers who served under the PDP administrations as part of moves to present a formidable front and get the input of stakeholders on the choice of a running mate ahead of the 2023 presidential poll.
Atiku’s spokesman, Mr Paul Ibe, confirmed to one of our correspondents that the Thursday night parley was part of the ongoing consultations by the former vice-president to build a formidable party ahead of the polls.

This newspaper could not confirm if the meeting slated to hold at the Legacy House in Abuja started at 8pm as planned.

Meanwhile, a PDP chieftain, Chief Bode George, has said the running mate would be an individual that could assist the party to garner votes.

He said, “Definitely, it (running mate) must come from the South; South-West, South-East and South-South. They will be looking for the best man that will be able to assist the party; who will have character, respect for the rule of law and be fair to Nigerians.”

On the choice of the running mate, a PDP presidential aspirant, Sam Ohuabunwa, said the party would choose someone who could give the party leverage.

He added, “PDP will choose whoever they want between the party leadership and candidate; they will choose whoever they think will give them best electoral leverage, that’s what I think.

“I don’t understand who they will pick; my consideration is whoever will give them electoral leverage to win the election because it has to do with what will make them win the election in 2023.
A former PDP National Publicity Secretary, Diran Odeyemi said Governor Wike as the running mate to Atiku would guarantee the party’s victory in the 2023 presidential election.

According to him, Wike could rally support for the party in the South-East, South- West and the South-South where he hails from.

Odeyemi said, “I will be categorical with my comment. The best bet for the PDP is to pick Wike. Apart from the fact that he is capable and has shown intention, he is the only one that can assist the party. I am very sure he will get votes in the South-East, South-South and South-West. Their combinations would be good not only to get a victory for the party but to also bring development to the country.”

Meanwhile, the APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and other members of the party’s National Working Committee on Thursday, visited Tinubu.

The APC national youths leader, Dayo Isreal, also took to the official Twitter handle to explain the purpose of their visit in a series of tweets.

He stated, “Our National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, today led us on a courtesy visit to our Presidential Candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu this afternoon. The full NWC are behind our candidate.”

I didn't remember going to bank to tell them to renew my ATM card, i don't know if is their new policy now and i don't know if this from First bank or internet fraudster. If it is from the bank, then is against customer's right and they are desperate to swindle(Let me use that word) customers money. This method needs to stop! This is the message;

I later called one of the numbers to decline the request after series of questions on my account. I asked the customer care what will happen to the old Mama's and papa's that can't read becos sending this message doesn't make sense to me. He said the message is normal, that they wouldn't print the card until a request of whether to issue the card or not is made. I don't know if there's sense in this.

Celebrities / Portable Apologises To Headies After Police Report by Weneda(m): 12:21pm On May 28, 2022
Fast rising controversial singer, Portable has apologised to the organisers of Headies Awards 2022 for threatening co-nominees.

Portable’s apology is coming few hours after the organisers threatened to disqualify him.

Vanguard reports that Portable had takento his Instagram page on Wednesday and he made death threats to other artistes featured in the categories he was nominated in.

“Those are my awards, anybody else who wins I will ask for them to be killed. I will ask them to kill the person. If the organisers give my award to someone else, they will die,” he said in Yoruba. “No go give my award to another person, he go die o”

Smooth Productions, however, made a report to the police as regards the concerning video and also warned the singer to retract his statement and make a written apology to his colleagues.

The statement read in part, “The Headies condemns such actions and is vehemently opposed to the utterance of any threats or actions that contravene our laws. We have notified the Nigerian Police Force of Okikiola’s actions to fellow nominees of the awards.

“Also, demand that the immediate retraction of the video from Mr. Okikiola’s social media platforms, as well as a written apology to the nominees of both categories and to the Headies, must be made.

“Should Mr. Okikiola fail to meet our demands, we would not only disqualify him from participating in the Headies but also enforce the instrumentalities of the law to the fullest.”

Portable, however, took to social media to tender what could be described as a non-pology.

“Headies, Headies, Headies, how many times did I call you, you invited a mad man and you will still see madness,” the singer said in Yoruba in his apology video.

In another part of the apology video, the singer referred to the organizers as “bros”

“Bros, no vex o, If I Bleep up no be me first to Bleep up,” the singer added.

Politics / Primaries: TMG Worries Over Extension Of Deadline, Knocks INEC by Weneda(m): 12:14pm On May 28, 2022
The Transition Monitoring Group has berated the Independent National Electoral Commission for extending the deadline for the conduct of primary elections and submission of the list of nominated candidates for the 2023 general elections, from 4th to 9th of June 2022.

Chairman of the foremost election monitoring group, Comrade Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, in a statement on Friday, lamented the extension, noting that the group received the news with great worries and concerns.

He said that at a time when Nigerians are beginning to have confidence in the electoral umpire, some powerful forces are trying to undermine and pressurise it to do their biddings.

Rafsanjani stated,“A lot of political parties have made efforts in conducting their primaries and if the ruling party is still uncertain about the day to conduct its presidential primary elections that shouldn’t be the basis for the extension.”

The group also condemned the vote-buying incidents in the ongoing political party primaries across the country, stating that “any financial inducements on delegates were tantamount to the mortgaging of the country’s future.”

Mr Rafsanjani said, “We are appalled by the incidents of vote-buying and sundry financial inducements on the delegates in the ongoing political party primaries across the country.

“Delegates should note that they don’t have to go to the extent of mortgaging Nigeria’s future on the altar of ephemeral financial gratifications. They should think of Nigeria first before any other considerations.

“It should be noted that the influence of money in an election has far-reaching implications in Nigerian politics because any politician that spends to be voted for will surely work towards recouping the money at the end of the day, and it is still the voters that will be at the receiving end.”
The TMG boss, therefore, noted that the group will continue to monitor the electoral processes with a view to ascertaining the level of transparency and fairness in the process and report the same to Nigerians in the build-up to the 2023 general elections.

The group, however, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for ensuring the smooth conduct of the party primaries across the country.

Music/Radio / Stanley Okorie- Why Are Nigeria Movies Soundtrack Artistes Underrated? by Weneda(m): 9:02am On May 20, 2022
Have been wondering why one of the popular movies soundtrack artiste in the likes of Stanley Okorie who sings in mostly all Nigeria movies is being under rated. He started this carreer way back 1990s and still kicking. When watching a Nigeria movie, even though u didn't start it from the beginning, when he sings u know what is likely going to happen. He summarize the movie with his angelic voice. His song Happy Mumu is mostly heard everywhere and he's straight to the point. Don't know why he wasn't nominated in the recent 2022 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA). This is my humble observation. Please mod push to front page

I remember vividly when i was in 100level in Unizik precisely. I have never been to Onitsha, so i was budgeting buying buying some clothes at Eke Akwa market but later opted for Onitsha. So i zoom off, got to Onitsha and bought what i wanted nd about coming back. I was looking for a bus heading to Awka and i have already been told how dangerous that place is especially when u re a JJC. Out of fear i saw a bus around upper iweka, the conductor told me this bus is heading to Awka direct. I entered looking at the passengers one after the other, some of them look like Fulani, some looks like farmers. Something inside of me told me this bus might be heading to another state. Then thank God as an ikwerre guy and with the little igbo understanding in me, i overheard the conductor telling a passenger that the bus will get to somewhere in Abakaliki. I said "na them", thank God he has not collected money from me. I jumped out immediately and starting searching where to get a bus to Awka

Business / Re: Mobil Filling Station, ₦10,000 & POS Wahala: How Can I Resolve This Issue? by Weneda(m): 2:13pm On Jun 24, 2021
tunbosun002:
Does Anyone Know How I Can Resolve This Issue?

Good morning nairalanders,

Please I have an issue with MobilinNigeria(Mobil petroleum station) in one of their branches in Lekki axis and the manager seems not to know what to do about it or he’s trying to play me.

On the 12th of this month, I was at one of the branches to buy diesel worth N10,000 with my atm card using POS..the fuel attendant whose name starts with M tried using my card with their POS machine and after about 30mins, he gave me the card saying the transaction was declined and opted that I transfer 10k to his personal account and he would pay later when the POS machine starts working, which I did and I left the petrol station.

On getting home, N10,000 from the declined transaction was deducted from my account. I sent an email to my bank(FCMB) immediately asking them to make a reversal of the N10,000 deducted from my account and I got a response stating that they will investigate for 3 working days.

After the said working days was completed, I got an email from FCMB saying the POS merchant got credited with the money with proof. I went back to mobil petrol station and I met with one of the attendants, asking to see their manager and I explained why I needed to see the manager but when the guy he called their manager came, the first thing he said is “IT IS A POS TRANSACTION and IT CANNOT be traced”, I immediately told him he cannot tell me there’s no way to keep track of their account records and I needed my money back since FCMB said the money went through, I also showed him the receipt FCMB sent to me. He promised to investigate and call back on Monday noon which he didn’t, I gave him till past 6pm of the said day before calling him, he asked that I call back so he can check and when I did, he said he didn’t see the N10,000 transaction in their account.
I called FCMB yesterday and they still insisted that they received the money and they asked that I go back there and give them a call to talk to the manager.

Note, the manager has refused to check with the bank copy receipt FCMB sent to me saying since the one they gave me at the petrol station says declined, then the money is not with them.
Please I need help from bankers in the house and nairalanders on how to get this money, N10,000 is really a lot this period as I have not been working for the past six weeks now.

I will attach the declined receipt I got from the petrol station and the receipt FCMB sent to me after their investigations.

Attached is the declined receipt I got from the fuel attendant and the receipt FCMB sent to me after their investigations.
Hmm madam thesame happened to my wife but i thank God is 1k nd it was refunded by the POS agent. She try using her card but the guy said it was declined. She came back and got alert of 1k deducted from her account by the POS. She went back the next day and showed the guy the lert, he was still adamant. She went to the bank and layed a complain, the customer care checked her system it showed money was deducted. The customer care told my wife to go and collect her money from the POS. I followed her, saw the guy told him that we are coming from the bank now, he should give me the 1k. He was just ranting here nd there but after everything he gave us the 1k. We should be careful of using POS for transactions. Some of this guy's are not smiling. So madam in my humble opinion, go to the bank and print ur statement of account from that day u made that transaction, go with some older guys or ur husband (if u are married), present the statement to him, he can't deny it.

The women that called thesame customer care needs to be trained on how to handle customers. They don't want to listen to u. Inshort if not for the love i have for the bank i would have close that account. A little change of name on my BVN they couldn't do after waiting for 3hrs was done in another GT bank.
