Nairaland GeneralRe: What's Your Fear (Phobia)? by WesleyanA(op): 7:36am On Apr 28, 2006
Sayoh:
My own phobia may sound a bit wack bt i hv a phobia for visiting guys in their house alone
bonchic:
its not wack mi tooo huh huh huh huh cry cry cry cry does any one understand y huh
Phobias are usually beyond the victims' control.
Usually people go to psychologist (or physiologists? idk) for help in overcoming it and what they do is make you think back to your childhood e.t.c because it's usually a horrible past childhood experience that leads to phobias.
not always though.

I used to have a phobia for snakes but not anymore because i've overcome that.
I think I got it from watching too many "evil spirit" nigerian home-videos at night when I was a little kid(that's also why I can't sleep at night w/o light or close my eyes for a long period of time. I just have to know what's going on around me)

taht's why i wouldn't advice any parent to expose their kids to violent movies thinking it's not going to make them turn violent. It might affect them psychologically because they're really sensitive. undecided

Usually people with phobias know that the object of their fear is harmless to them but they still have the irrational fear. I know sleeping w/o lights won't harm me. I just would freak out

especially when I wake up in the middle of the night in darkness shocked shocked

sorry for the long post guys lipsrsealed

Where'd You Go?
by Fort Minor

Where'd you go?
I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone.

She said "Some days I feel like rubbish,
Some days I want to quit, and just be normal for a bit,"
I don't understand why you have to always be gone,
I get along but the trips always feel so long,
And, I find myself trying to stay by the phone,
'Cause your voice always helps me to not feel so alone,
But I feel like an idiot, workin' my day around the call,
But when I pick up I don't have much to say,
So, I want you to know it's a little bleeped up,
That I'm stuck here waitin', at times debatin',
Tellin' you that I've had it with you and your career,
Me and the rest of the family here singing "Where'd you go?"

I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone.
Where'd you go?
I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone,
Please come back home,

You know the place where you used to live,
Used to barbecue up burgers and ribs,
Used to have a little party every Halloween with candy by the pile,
But now, you only stop by every once and a while,
Shit, I find myself just fillin' my time,
With anything to keep the thought of you from my mind,
I'm doin' fine, I plan to keep it that way,
You can call me if you find that you have something to say,
And I'll tell you, I want you to know it's a little bleeped up,
That I'm stuck here waitin', at times debatin',
Tellin' you that I've had it with you and your career,
Me and the rest of the family here singing "Where'd you go?"

I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone.
Where'd you go?
I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone,
Please come back home,

I want you to know it's a little bleeped up,
That I'm stuck here waitin', no longer debatin',
Tired of sittin' and hatin' and makin' these excuses,
For why you're not around, and feeling so useless,
It seems one thing has been true all along,
You don't really know what you've got 'til it's gone,
I guess I've had it with you and your career,
When you come back I won't be here and you can sing it,

Where'd you go?
I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone.
Where'd you go?
I miss you so,
Seems like it's been forever,
That you've been gone,
Please come back home,
Please come back home,
Please come back home,
Please come back home,

What's you phobia? or what are you just generally afraid of?

I'm especially scared of :

sleeping without lights : I don't care how dim the light is. I just have to have some light.

doing anything with my eyes closed: This is like my phobia!!!!! I would die if someone put a blindfold on me. I'm so terribly scared of it and might get a panic attack.
I had to get those small cleansing pads for my face so i don't have to wash my face w/ my eyes closed. It's scary.
You know when you hear your house is on fire or someone's trying to break in and  you get really frightned, that's what it feels like to have my eyes closed. like something's going to happen even though I know nothing's going to happen.

EducationRe: School Is Divided Into Cool Pple And Uncool Pple Why? by WesleyanA(f): 5:24am On Apr 24, 2006
It depends on your school.

If you go to a competitive school like mine, we aren't divided. we're actually very very diverse in lots of ways and what's uncool to some is always cool to others.

but if you go to a crappy school or a "stereotypical" high school, the jocks are the cool people and the nerds are the uncool people.
that wouldn't work in my school since almost over half the pop. participate in sports and most of the kids are smart (at least smarter than the average HS in my state). I feel so stupid sometimes it's not even funny  embarassed
so much pressure to get good grades and all that.

whereas in some other schools, getting good grades makes you "uncool."

so basically, it depends on your environment and similar factors.

for example:
you might call a nerd "uncool" in a community college because there are a few of them,  . .  but,
you wouldn't call a nerd "uncool" in a top school like Harvard or Yale because there are so many of them.

I'm just trying to work my hardest to get into a top school (like Duke or Rice) to make myself & parents proud. I'm not going to stress myself or try to compete w/ anybody.

they probabaly should also consider the health effects of alcohol.

it's okay to take a little alcohol. just don't get drunk. Lol cheesy

seriously, it depends on the church.
if your church says it's okay, it's okay. If your church says it's not, then it's not.

the main reason y i got into my culture was because my grandma was here and she taught me and now that she is dead (may her soul rest in peace) i put it on myself to keep my culture, study it, explore it, apply most of it to my life, and pass it on to my kids.
just like I said earlier, the best way to teach a kid Yoruba is to bring the grandma over cheesy.

for some reason, almost every person (nigerian american) I know/hear of who speaks yoruba was taught by a grandma.

Well, Wes, the protests were far from being peaceful in Nigeria. It took a catastrophic dimensions entirely, and I believe there was more to the Cartoon protests in the Nigerian case. It's more like ethnic cleansing, sort of.

Anyways, it's good you're back. And what led you in to the Politics section of Nairaland? No offence this time, unlike the underage thing at the romance section, remember?
Yes! It's funny how many muslims in Nigeria used the cartoons to justify violence that's a result of something totally different (ethnic, religious tension).

I was talking about the muslim boycott of danish goods and other peaceful ways non-violent Muslims in Europe protested (stuff like that don't happen in Nigeria  undecided)

I've always been in the Politics section  tongue I'm everywhere literally. Howl else do you think i get all my posts?
I'm never in the computer/tech blah blah. . . sections though.

and yes I remember that "underage" arguement. good times  cheesy

DivineOke:
@ WesleyanA

Yes, his statement tells us why Muslims in Nigeria had to go on a killing spree because of a cartoon that was not even published in Nigeria n u call that peaceful!!
I never said it was peaceful. I said there were some peaceful protests abroad and I wished Nigeria did the same instead of resorting to violence.

I still don't see where his statement gives his position. undecided He didn't say if he supported the killings or not he just gave his opinion as to why the killings took place. so why attack him?
In my opinion, the cartoons actually had little to do with the killlings.

Irony isn't a type or form of sarcasm.
It's the other way round.
sarcasm is mean/humorous Irony.

you know why do any of us care i mean it allways happen to us and that is the only thing they got in common angry
You need to know the difference if you want to become a writer or any kind of professional (screenwriting e.t.c). I guess it's for proper usage undecided
Seun's new satire site for example relies heavily on the use of satire. So it's not that bad to learn this stuff.

bolex:
I think irony is different from sarcasm because Irony is a form of Sarcasm

grin
actually, Sarcasm is a form of Irony.

Irony comes in many forms.
embarassedwhen you expect something but the opposite of what you expect happens
ex. there has been a drought for 10 years so a farmer starves himself to save all his money in that 10 years to build a well. the day after the comletion of the well, a heavy rain falls and rain continues to fall periodically after wards.

sad When your watching a movie. You know the character's husband died in a car accident (because you saw it happen in a scene) but the character doesn't know and prepares his dinner and waits for him until 12pm.
that's another example of irony.

something like this is ironic: "I'm not mad angry angry I'm happy actually angry angry"
you know the person is mad because of his facial expression/ emoticons.

Sarcasm is the same as Irony except it's meant to be funny or mean/rude
when someone accidentally drops his lunch, does something stupid and you clap and say "good job! cheesy" you're being sarcastic.
or if you say something like: "rolflmao you're sooo pretty lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed"
that's a sarcastic comment.

Though people see the cartoon as nothing, the muslims reacted the way they did because of their love, respect and dedication for the Holy prophet.

@ cushman
Ooh, so you support d reaction of the muslims!! :- how sad. I hope u were not part of them o!! Seems like the human life means nothing to you guys. Killin a human being is just like slaying a cow!! angrycry cryI think everybody should really run 4 cover.
@ Divine Oke, Cushman's statement in your post didn't state a position of support for muslim reactions.
It stated why the muslims reacted that way (because of their love for Muhammad).
I don't know why you're jumping into conclusions, and. . .
killing a human being is in fact different from slaying a cow (not that i would like to see a cow being slayed in my presence).

"[many] Muslims love the Prophet more than their families"
-- Dr Yunes Teinaz, London Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre.
so now tell me, you expected them to sit in their houses and laugh along at the humiliating cartoons?
I didn't support the violent reactions but I support the peaceful protests like I mentioned before.[
