Science/Technology / Re: Scientists Baffled By Mummified 'Mermaid' With 'Human Face' & Tail (Graphic Pic) by wheelchairboy(m): 5:52pm On Mar 04, 2022
ExAngel007:
A mummified "mermaid" said to grant immortality to whoever tastes its flesh will be examined by scientists in order to reveal its true nature.

The mysterious creature was allegedly caught in the Pacific Ocean, off the Japanese island of Shikoku, between 1736 and 1741, and is now kept in a temple in the city of Asakuchi.

The creature has a human appearance except for its fish-like lower half.

Researchers from the Kurashiki University of Science and the Arts have now taken the mummy for CT scanning in a bid to unravel its secrets.

Hiroshi Kinoshita of the Okayama Folklore Society, who came up with the project, said the bizarre creature could have religious significance.

Hiroshi Kinoshita "Japanese mermaids have a legend of immortality," he said.

"It is said that if you eat the flesh of a mermaid, you will never die."

"There is a legend in many parts of Japan that a woman accidentally ate the flesh of a mermaid and lived for 800 years.

"This ‘Yao-Bikuni’ legend is also preserved near the temple where the mermaid mummy was found.

"I heard that some people, believing in the legend, used to eat the scales of mermaid mummies."

The scientists examining the mummy will publish their findings later this year.

Nairaland / General / Re: Ideal Wheelchairs by wheelchairboy(m): 6:25pm On Sep 17, 2021
summerwilliam:
When taking care of wheelchair transportation, the first thing that comes to mind is the sort of wheelchair to utilize. It is necessary to invest in the ideal kind of wheelchair depending upon the individual that will certainly utilize it. When choosing a wheelchair, the interests of the disabled individual need to be considered. The comfort of the customer is one of the most important. What is using having the ability to walk around, when you're in a discomforting chair?

If you are the one thinking about buying a wheelchair, the possibilities are you might end up being a wheelchair assistant either on a regular or periodic basis. Having that in mind, it agrees with for you to have a wheelchair that can be pressed as well as turned conveniently.

There are 2 major sorts of wheelchairs. One is the hand-operated wheelchair, which is operated by the passenger by turning the large side wheels (generally around 20-26 inches wide). Manual wheelchairs can be adjusted or folded. Popular today are light-weight guidebook wheelchairs that give less complicated wheelchair transport for both the passenger and also the wheelchair assistant. One more type is the electric-powered wheelchair, which has navigational controls. This wheelchair appropriates for those with exceptionally minimal flexibility.

When acquiring a wheelchair whether for you or another person, attempt greater than one type of wheelchair. It is additionally recommended to ask a doctor's point of view. The doctor may recommend the optimal wheelchair depending on the individual's sort of injury, degree of injury, age, body framework, and endurance.

For the client, particular considerations must be observed as well. These are the anticipated length of leg stability, the environment of the person, and the lifestyle of the individual. Hands-on collapsible wheelchairs may be appropriate for momentarily disabled clients. A physician would need to be asked about better wheelchairs for people with long-term specials needs. Wheelchairs suitable for indoor use might not be appropriate for exterior usage. Nevertheless, it prevails for patients to use the same wheelchair in the house, at the park, and anywhere else.

Physical attributes of the chair should additionally be taken into consideration. The most crucial would certainly be the weight. A wheelchair that is very easy for motion is around 15-20 extra pounds. Light-weight folding wheelchairs would be convenient, especially the ones that can fit easily inside the trunk of your vehicle.

The comfort of the chair is also a relevant factor to consider. A lot of clients remain lengthy hrs in the wheelchair, so an ideal wheelchair must be comfortable. Normally, comfortable chairs are 19 inches vast. Bigger people need wheelchairs with broader seats and stronger bodies. On the other hand, seats normally have padding or pads to offer comfort to the resident.

You need to likewise ask the optimum weight capacity of the wheelchair. Challenging most of them can lug a weight of approximately 250 pounds. Compare the weight ability of the wheelchair with the weight of the patient.

The rate is the significant deciding element. Wheelchairs can be as affordable as $99, yet rates can go up to over $300, relying on the attributes.

If FFK and Dino choose to be married, it is their personal business. They may be doing it for political reasons, sociocultural reasons or for some validation. Politics / Re: Osinbajo: Working Together, Nigeria Will Realize Its True Potentials by wheelchairboy(m): 12:01pm On May 06, 2021
murecool:
STATE HOUSE PRESS RELEASE.*

*_WORKING TOGETHER, NIGERIA WILL REALIZE ITS TRUE POTENTIALS_* — *OSINBAJO.*

*Former Ogun Gov Daniel tells VP:* _We know your job is not easy, but we are proud of you._

Though Nigeria is facing diverse challenges, it will overcome the problems and realize its potentials especially if people who share progressive views continue to work together in the interest of the country, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Prof. Osinbajo stated this Wednesday when he received on a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa, members of a SouthWest Think-Tank known as IMODOYE led by former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel. (Imodoye means knowledge is valuable)

According to the Vice President, “I am very hopeful that this country will truly realize its potentials and I believe that all of us working together can make that happen. If the progressive ideas are put forward and we focus, then this country indeed will work.

“The country is ours, we should make it happen, there will be many challenges but I think that we must be prepared to face it until progressive views of improved welfare for the citizens that we represent, eventually prevail.”

Speaking on the efforts of the Buhari administration to address some of the challenges confronting Nigerians, the Vice President noted that “the best way out of where we are today is to have a massive plan for investment because that is really how to create opportunities for jobs, which is what we are hoping to achieve with the Economic Sustainability Plan, creating opportunities through the solar investments with 5 million connections, the Farms for Jobs Project and the Social Housing Scheme.”

The Vice President then reiterated that the welfare of the people and the progress of the country has always been and will remain the priority of the APC and the Buhari administration.

Earlier in his remark, former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, said the visit was to identify with and support the cause of Prof. Osinbajo whom he described as “intelligent, hardworking, articulate” and a very proud son of the Southwest region.

His words: “we want to let you know that you are appreciated, we are proud of you and the work that you are doing, we know it is not an easy job. We also want to let you know that we want to join you in nation-building, if there is anything, any assignment you want us to undertake, we are at your service, that is why we are here.”

Former Governor Daniel who is now an APC member led the Imodoye delegation which included some other new entrants into the party.
He said having joined the party he has visited the President, Governors, and other leaders including Chief Bisi Akande.

With him yesterday at the VP's office were Mr Dare Babarinsa, a veteran journalist; and Otunba Opeyemi Agbaje, a policy analyst. Others were, Mr Ayodele Olaoye, Mr Kole Omololu, Mr. Kole Abe, Mr Deola Sosanwo, Mr Steve Oliyide, Mr John Obafemi and Mr Demola Folarin.

Family / Re: Am I A Failure? Please Rate Me. by wheelchairboy(m): 6:39pm On May 05, 2021
WhiteRuler:
First of all, apologies for any errors you may come across as I am not at the right frame of mind now.

Secondly, this post is 100% real about my life. So nothing is fake in it.

I'm a man, precisely 33 years old. I graduated from the University in 2019 at age 31. You may ask why I was still in school till that age. Well, I have realized that family/parental background matters a lot in a child's life no matter how people try to twist the fact. My family/parental background wasn't a good one educationally and financially as my parents were just petty traders and this has contributed negatively in achieving my goals and aspirations in life. With the above, you can deduce that there was no sources of funding for my tertiary education so I had to find a job after my secondary school while very ambitious about my furthering my education because I always believed in acquiring education up to university level. This led me to doing several odd jobs such as construction site labourer, security guard, cleaning, barbing, hawking, even to remove soak away and many others just to feed and see myself through school. Let me also add that @33 now, there are some jobs I can't do again because of some changes in my health system occasioned by some of the odd jobs I exposed myself to. For example, any strenuous job now is not for me as it makes me breath heavily like an asthmatic patient; any job that requires standing for long or bending down not for me due to broken waist (although these might be solvable issues but for now, I can't tell cos I have no money to visit health facility).

Moving on, while I may be thanking God for the academic success (even though the school is yet to issue me certificate) but I'm having strong feelings about myself. I feel like I have failed in life. I feel like I am a failure. My mates who got admission into university immediately after secondary school are gainfully employed today, living in comfortable apartment (built or rented), married with kids, have their own car and generally doing well. Even the ones who didn't further but venture into learning trade are doing well too. On the other hand, at 33, I have virtually nothing to show for it. Still living in one thatch house, poor, hungry and starving, no wife, no kid(s) (not even a serious girlfriend), no job, no car and nothing to show for my 33 years on earth. This is why I'm feeling like I have failed in life and it has made me to always be ashamed of myself and always trying to avoid meeting my mates who are doing well.

Also, looking at the country Nigeria, most employers recruit under 30. @33, what are my chances of
landing a good job if I refuse to forge age and go for service but collect exemption letter? What are even the possibility of getting a job as I have no capital for business? Note: between 2019 and now, I've learnt several online money making skills but yet to make a kobo out of it all. Note also: ordinarily, I wouldn't seek employment (private or government) because I'm multi talented e.g in football, entertainment or business but these talents need money to develop which is what I'm lacking.

My questions:
Please what do you all think? Do you think I have failed or I'm a failure in life? What is the future holding for me? As at today, the only thing I can boast of is "I am a graduate". Nothing more...like I said, poor, hungry and starving.

Help me with good pieces of advice please before my mind begins to consider evil as fastest way of making money. Thanks.

Hustling is a beautiful thing, don't despise it. When things turn around it is the sweetest experience ever. Keep pushing and pulling, one day private jet go appear. Nothing is impossible.

For about 1-2 months, I've been experiencing rectal discharge (a lump above my anus which brings out bloody mucur), constant weakness and pain in my abdominal area. Initially, I thought it was a disease called Hemorrhoids, because the symptoms are exactly the same, and I never imagined this could happen to me. Two nights ago, my stool was filled with dark red blood; so I had to quickly inform my parents. They advised I go for a full scale test. To cut the story short, I've been diagnosed with stage 1 colon cancer. I really need your prayers.

I pray that God gives you the strength to overcome it in Jesus name, Amen
