Dotman1001:
This is becoming ridiculous. The government need to intervene now if part of the country's income diversification plan includes farming. I have experienced the same on my farmland.
My advice is to involve the local authority/politicians and make it public as much as possible
Farmers need to start erecting fences as soon as farmland is purchased, using barb wire fencing is considered the cheapest and will go a long way to stop cows from destroying your crops.

You may also need to get workers to live on your farm.

House,I contacted Cardinalstone registrars today for the E-dividend mandate.i was told to complete the form which they sent to my inbox and scan back to them so they can use it to mandate my subsequent e-dividend.i.
I want to ask the house if this is all i need or i will still need to process signature verification from my bank.
Most registrars always ask for Bankers Confirmation as they always insist that they dont have a specimen of your signature in their System.
FBN/GTB/Access registrar requested for BC for processing.

Just scan to them, if they dont have a specimen of your signature with them, they will definitely ask for it.

Do I really need to understudy or just get an agronomist
You need to understudy.

Just get a farm that do poultry, spend a month. Get someone with a tomato farm and work a month. You will have good knowledge of what you want to do and if you wish to continue.

Even if you finally get an agronomist, you will have a first hand knowledge of your business and be able to correct your workers.

People on this thread don't really go through results. They just check the PAT and that's it. I'm not of a Finance and Accounts background but some of the basics are there to read for whoever is interested.

Like has been posted before, which is not news, FX will be this biggest player on most bank results this year. FX gains/losses and loan losses

GTB (the almighty bank) in it's Q2 had to add FX translation gains to it's PAT (instead of under OCI as ZIB and UBA did or else it would have declared a loss for the 3 months ended June) due to very high Loan impairment charges. That's one of the most stable banks. FCMB did the same thing. So these are banks wit good NET FX Assets.

Now imagine banks with Net FX liabilities (rather than Assets), also having high loan loss to deal with this year. My take is this: for any bank whose Q3 you are expecting, just check the Q2. If there was a considerable increase in it's loan loss therein don't expect anything too fantastic in Q3. If even worse, it has a net FX liabilities rather than Assets, you might even want to sell because there'd be nothing to cushion the rise in loan losses (except cutting down drastically on operating expenses, I guess).

Or what do you think?
Most of us are aware of the component of these bank,s result but short term trading is the order of the day. I still make a N4 gain on the same GTB after releasing their H2 result and interim dividend while I made a loss on Zenith with a far better cleaner result with an almost non-existent fx-related gains in its PBT. You will wonder while folks still buy Skye Bank even with all their bad news and still make money, same goes for FBN and their loan portfolio.

Thats the wonder of NSE.

The jaw-dropping corruption in the judiciAry if unearthed will take the nation by storm.
Criminals plead with police and EFcc to quickly arraigne in court because they re sure if they can't get their way at the Police station they will surely be let off the hook in court.
Judges after collecting bribes and letting criminals off the hook hip the blame on the police and EFCC citing lack of diligent prosecution.
This crack down on corrupt judges is long overdue. Principled and impeccable judges ve nothing fear.
Wailers can wail to high heavens for all I care.
There is nothing like principled and impeccable judges in Nigeria. Everyone has a price, you just need to look around and get the right price.
I assured you that half of the money will disappear with DSS while they wont be able to account for the rest.

Go and ask Lamorde, former EFCC topgun on the recovered loots.

AgricultureRe: I Have 1 Million Naira To Invest In Agric by Willie2015: 7:07pm On Sep 21, 2016
bethnals:
Well thats what i want to do with this 1 million learn. But where does one go? is it to attend one of these seminars or what.

Where actually do you find the information on how to buy/lease land? Does government lease land to farmers? If so how do you access it. What are the breakdown input costs i.e. how would you spend the 1 million naira? what is the potential output? etc etc

Money is the relatively simple part. The harder part is knowledge and a practical plan.

Are you involved in the farming business?
Start with the internet, agric sites, nairaland etc.

There are enough information on Nairaland alone on different agric biz if you can take your time and read. Choose an aspect to focus on.
After that, you look for farms around you that you can work/train with them for some months. From your training, you will know your inputs, markets, strategy, environment, output and be able to develop your business plan for your project. U will get knowledge by reading wide and experience by working for some months on a farm. U will get practical plan by putting your knowledge and experience into a Business Plan.

Are you involved in the farming business? Yes

I want to invest 1 million naira in agric business next month. I will be based in the north (Kano).

Crops or livestock, something that will start returning money within 6-9 months.

What do you recommend and why?

Thank you.
My advise for you is to go and keep your =N=1m naira in Treasury Bills.
Go and search for any agric business you want to focus on.
Learn the secret of the trade with someone that is already established in the Business and already a success.
You wont ask the above question after 3/6 months of learning.... Seek knowledge first.

Thanks for the feedback, but it's too expensive for me.
Use the following cheap alternative method

1. Burn your soil to kill the weed seed and disease in your nursery soil
2. Mix it the soil with Old Saw Dust (makes your soil very light)
3. Add organic fertilizer to the combination and compost if you have.
4. Mix the combination with water( not too watery)
5. Fill your Nursery tray and sow your seeds.

Depending to much on FBNH was the single biggest mistake I made this year, and with that mistake I lost a significant amount of money. 2016 has proven so far not to be FBNH's year. Maybe later this year and certainly next year after FY2016 results things will turn around for the stock though. Since I dumped it and moved on, I can now think better and make better moves.

This is certainly not a buy or sell recommendation biko
That,s the courage you need in the market, ability to dump and preserve capital i.e mastery of your emotion. I am not a fan of FBNH though I bought mine just above 3.00 and dump it when it reach 4.23 during the news of the new exchange rate.

Sold all my stocks b/4 closure of books for interim div.“Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until GTB decline to 13.80,Zenith - 9.50,Access - 3.80

It is becoming increasingly wise for one to exit all postions where one have experienced gains however little it may be. The outlook for this economy is not looking rosy at all. The recovery of the economy is looking like exploring for crude oil in the Lake Chad basin.

I am locked in with losses all over my portfolio. Which way Naija
Also the courage to exit loss position to preserve capital is extremely critical.

I sincerely don't see that happening especially for GTB. The trend clearly shows that FI have preference for GTB. The soaring price of the stock is a testament.
I agree with you on FI preference and soaring price of GTB but it is also a fact that banks inclusive of GTB are not immune from their environment in an economic recession.

A massive 30% cut in salaries of staffs of top tier banks is an indicator that something is fundamentally wrong. Income line is reducing so fast that the only way to make performance look good is to cut salaries. If I am expecting a loss of 30% by EOY and I cant get income line to stem the tide, the easiest way to stem the tide is to reduce staff costs by the same ratio and get a flat result.

I expect UBA, GTB and other banks to move along the same line, however I rather wait for prices to come down than lose hard earned cash in this current climate.

Nice story. Starting up a farm is not so easy cuz of fund and lack of land. I did a 3 months intensive training on vegetable farming with one of the gurus in nairaland. No fund or land to start mine so I decided to manage farm for ones with fund but lack experience or don't have time.
Try and find a family member or close relative who has an unused plot of land. Go to any village close to you and see their Chief. They are always ever willing to help you.
