cadno:Too much pressure on FBN shares and dont bank on it that you will get =N=1 Div. One thing I learnt over the years is to be a trader, once I hit my profit target, i move out. No wait or romance with any stocks, those directors dont give a shit about investors when they are sharing those funds. |
How much for materials and installation of the one that can handle pumping machine on the farm? |
Quakertellicus1:If you dont tackle the bad economy, how can you minimize corruption? Some States have not paid salaries for 4 months and you expect folks not to be corrupt. Handle the bad economy as your first priority and others can follow. |
amaechi1:The first thing to do is to tackle bad economy. Once the average common man can feed, have shelter and conducive environment to further his apsiration. You will reduce security and corruption by 50%. Bros, a hungry man is an angry man, he will take arms and collect money to survive.... Survival first, |
Publicity Stunt by the Governor, what we need are policies & programs that will encourage mass movement to agriculture. How small scale farmer in Oriade LG can afford a power tiller that cost between =N=500k to =N=750k per one not to talk of tractors? How many of them can afford to fix a drip irrigation kit or spray tube irrigation for one acre or common 1000sqm How many can afford to fix mulching film on their farms? How many govt assisted dam irrigation programs do we have in Osun state compared to states in the North? How many small scale farmer in Osun state can afford to work on their farm during dry season ? |

Well done ! My regards to your team. |
The earlier we adjust to the fact that white collar jobs are scarce and not available, the better. The era of entrepreneurship has come to stay if anyone is going to survive, we must learn to be able to start little businesses right in our backyard and environment. There is nothing wrong with a graduate having a plot of pepper or tomato farm to generate income. Our parents had farms that give them extra income during their days, how many of young people can you find in those villages as of now? We are complaining of lack of opportunities with army of unemployed graduates and yet all the opportunities lies right in those villages and farms we have abandoned. No wonder we are importing tomatoes from Cameroon &Ghana and yet we are complaining of lack of jobs in the midst of opportunities. The guy should move back to Benin and start farming. |
I had similar issue, I construct a small pen for them, pick them up, lock them up and feed them I pick them up in the evening btw 6- 7pm as they are coming out to eat and 9pm to 10pm for those not yet out I pick the remaining up in the early in the morning 5.30 am to 6.00 am before they hide. You will be amazed at the number of snails you will pick up. I did this consistently for 3 weeks. |
Trueigbo:Bros, what you need is training. There is Nagari farm in Keffi NC, you can contact them and see if you can work with them for a month without pay. You will be able to address these questions. |
ThunderingHooves:Milk coy also have to fulfill the required 10% local content, most of these coys still rely on importation as such they should be able to mop up your production. |
landinfo:We need orientation in Nigeria, how much is the cost of an acre of land ? An acre of land even on Nairaland cost between 50k to 70k, Ikire,Ogbomosho, Iwo etc. if you move to some inner villages, you can get it cheap. |
redfigure:Our indigenous cows cant give you 10 litres The country’s average daily yield per cow is 0.5-2 litres from indigenous breeds. ( Source Sahel Capital) |
redcap:We have dairy farms in Nigeria, there is Nagari Farm in Keffi that boast of 7000 herds of Hostein cattles. The coy may also be involved in Art Insemination with our local breeds. I dont know whether they offer training but you may visit and talk with them of the possibility of staying with them to learn for a short period. |
Thats great, and God bless you. I hope our govt can subsidize the cost of the tryctor, it should be an household name in Nigeria for small scale farmers of btwn an acre & 5 acres. |
ThunderingHooves:Average milk yield per female cow is 1 litre per day which is poor when you compare with the 30 litres per day in the article below. Govt/Dangote need to intervene with free artificial insemination and force Fulani/Individual Investor to adopt zero grazing. Thats the way forward. |
Pavore9:WAMCO Dont have access to current information but as at April 2013, the highest milk collected was 7,000 litres per day (which should include the one from Shonga in Kwara. See below extract from one of the articles on the net in 2012 Steetskamp told BusinessDay that it was the policy of FrieslandCampina WAMCO to increase local content to get more balance between imports and local sourcing for reasons of exchange rate and world market prices, explaining that "we all know that the naira/dollar rate is vulnerable and if we import too much and we have to pay in dollars, the naira rate could affect our result and, therefore we rather buy locally in naira. That is one reason. "The second reason is that if we import dairy raw materials then you are depending on the world market prices, and they are set by supply and demand. If demand in Brazil, China or Oceania goes up and the supply goes down, the price goes up. As a matter of fact, we do a lot of local sourcing. Most of the ingredients, all the palm oil, all the cocoa powder are all sourced locally. The only thing we cannot source locally yet to the extent that we want is dairy raw materials. Therefore, we started this dairy development programme, which means that we oblige ourselves to take all the local milk that there is and even more." The Fulani farmers, as they are now, do not have the infrastructural muscle to do efficient supply to the company, and as such, the company is empowering them for this business operation. How? According to Steetskamp, "what we do is that we build a milk collection centre regionally. So, we have built one now in Oyo State, which is made up of milk collection centre and cooling equipment. There we collect milk produced by small-scale farmers; they come with buckets of 10 litres everyday and they deliver the milk. First of all, we gather the milk into a quantity of a 1000 litres so that we can transport it efficiently. "Secondly, we cool it down. We now have three milk trucks driving around the country to collect the milk at the milk collection centres at five degrees. Also, we have a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Agriculture, which supports farmers' education and organisations. So, logistically we collect the milk, we cool it down and we pay the farmers every week. "We support them in their production by giving them know-how, teaching them hygiene and teaching them how to milk the cow and how to get the highest production from the cow." Steetskamp said his company was currently operating the project at a loss, but explained: "It costs more now than it should. The landing cost of a litre of milk when we import it is about N70-N80. Currently, we pay up to N90 and we even subsidise above N90 for some farms. So, currently we are paying more than when we were importing it, but that is just to get it started. We are happy to subsidise it just to get the system started, but eventually it would go down." - See more at: http://www.ilorin.info/fullnews.php?id=2256#sthash.wK8RpDfM.dpuf |
Pavore9:Milk collection centre is close to these settlements, they pick up all supply |
Pavore9:Thats the price of purchase from fulani herdsmen |
With 400 litres per day, the guy is making =N=40,000k per day translating to =N=1.2m per month, not too bad though we dont have figure for his monthly expenses. Agric is the way ! |
freeborn76:This is the thruth! Let him move back to his village a start a small scale tomato farm and move his business forward with his skills/education. We are complaining of scarcity of tomatoes and yet we have an army of graduates that are looking for jobs. What is the value of education if they cant see opportunity and grab it. |
saintkeppy:Start small and you dont need to have millions to start a biz. You should forget loans, how do you intend to break even in the first place when IR on loan is between 25- 30%. |
sage50:This is the exact problem with a typical graduate in Nigeria, all we think about is a white collar job. The simple reason for education is to expand your horizon and think differently in any profession. You will wonder why a foreigner (a second year MBA student in Havard) will come to Nigeria and start a Tomato Jos farm while our graduates are complaining of unemployment. |
Kasfarin:How much for your standard biz plan on dry season tomato and pepper production |
freecocoa:We all need to be careful of our utterances concerning the Men of God. Forty two (42) youths got killed by two bears because they mocked Elisha for being bald.(2 Kings 2:23-24) |

millhouse:People are lazy because they want to be lazy. If some folks dont get result, it is due to lack of understanding and proper application. If our leaders failed to turn our nation to a masterpiece, it is as a result of wickedness of their heart; greed and selfish interest and not necessarily absence of developmental plans. We need prayers to turn the heart of men to do good works. 1st Timothy says this "First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity" You dont just wake up, plan and set out.You wake up, pray, plan and set out and finish it with prayers. There are folks that wake up, step out and never came back alive, there are folks that plan their whole life yet end up in the prison yard for a crime they did not commit. The Holy Bible says "Men ought to always pray and not faint ", Prayer is the one of the pillar of Islam, even Prayer is an integral part of the Hindu religion. |
topaaz:Prayer is the key and the master key! Prayer don,t make us lazy and blind, it give us direction. The heart of a man plan his way, but the Lord direct his steps. It is good to imbibe these habits as listed by the Ops but these habits dont guarantee you will be a millionaire. There are good, sound Nigerians that imbibe these habits and yet nothing work for them till today. Gandhi says that Prayer is the Key of the morning, bolt of the evening. Prayer is not an old woman's idle amusement, Properly understood and applied, it is the most potent instrument of action. |
You better learn how to pray, every other habit is secondary. |
obailala:You cant restrict movement of cattle's to confined reserves. How do you restrict nomadics that take pleasure in travelling from Katsina to Ogun state with their cows which takes an average of six months. What Audu Ogbe need to give an holistic approach to handle these problems not just importing grasses and restriction. |
teepain:Importing grasses is unnecessary and clearly show that the govt don,t have a sound blue print to address problems at hand (Stopping Nomad ism, milk importation and poor beef production). What is required is for Govt to demystify the concept that rearing cow is the exclusive right of the Fulani and you need large space to rear cows for beef/milk production. Govt should create enough support for unemployed graduates in term of finances and expertise to move into dairy and cattle rearing in Clusters. Create awareness and Drive implementation of zero grazing system in cattle rearing. You just need to have like 2 to 5 improved cows to get result which means an average Nigeria family can practice dairy farming even in his backyard with small space. Have a well established artificial insemination (AI) service system that will enhance the multiplication of improved cattle across the country. Resettle the Fulani herdsmen to different settlement, re orientate them on the zero grazing system and provide them with technical support. Provide a framework for Milk Companies like Wamco etc to create Milk Collection centers in Fulani settlement and Cluster across the country to collect milk and pay cash on a weekly basis to farmers. If we have enough small scale cow farmers in the country, we have no business importing milk and Fulani farmers will be forced out of business if they don,t adapt to zero grazing system. Govt should leave grass business to Research Institutes like IITA etc. Zero Grazing System was introduced in Kenya in 1980s as a Dairy Developmental Project with bilateral cooperation with the Dutch and we can all see their success rate. Zero grazing system will also release lands for other uses. |
