maishai:FBNH will not collapse but we should not expect any capital appreciation in the short term. Even at the height of the news of the floating exchange rate, it barely manage to drag itself to like =N=4.50k when stocks like Zenith and GTB in the same tier were flying. It will definitely be in a worse position when there are no positive new in this economic recession. |
Willie2015:My post on July 28, FBN already below =N=3.00 in August 29th. It will continue to dance between =N=2.50 & =N=3.30. Sincerely, I don,t see any positive news that is going to lift the stock price unless there is a miracle in 3rd & 4th quarter. The Elephant is simply too slow to catch up with other animals in the jungle. Well, I still believe in Miracles. |
abimcdssi:Good result. However, this is still too expensive for an average farmer while there are also other start up costs to also consider. You will not break even at all if you fail to get high end consumers like Shoprites etc who are ready to pay per kilo. I still prefer open field while one can have one green house to cater for fragile veg like tomatoes as income increase. |
You can get a soil tester on the net - Just google the below information, its simple to use. The Rapitest 4-Way Analyzer is a multi-purpose meter that allows you to monitor the conditions of soil pH, soil moisture, light intensity and total combined nitrogen, phosphorous and potash levels. NO batteries required |
greenpasture:The Kenyans had a blueprint for dairy sector, thats why they were successful. Development of any dairy sector of any country is a function of the following; 1. Having improved dairy animals locally in the Country. 2. A well-established artificial insemination (AI) service to enhance the multiplication of improved cattle. 3. Create awareness and Drive implementation of zero grazing system in cattle rearing. 4. Provision of technical and financial support to farmers. 5. Providing a framework with Milk Coys to absorb supplies from farmers. MOUs should support the above framework and not the other way around. Thats why we are concern when FG continue to sign MOUs with Coys without providing a blue print. Its dead on arrival. |
kennymotors:If your bus is generating enough cash to cover expenses with additional profit, Do not sell. You will need the income to fund your farm. Dont purchase an acre, you can get someone that is ready to lease a quarter of an acre for like =N=2,000.00 Plantain is profitable but you still need knowledge. It takes an average of 9 -12 months to get result. Try other vegetables with short cycle. There is nothing like money spin crops, with farming, you need to go for training, start small with quarter of an acre, then move up . |
clementcro:You should be conservative about the ''Millions in quote", it takes knowledge and hardwork to get to make million on tomatoes. |
cybergee:From my enquiry on nairaland, Cost is from =N=480k to =N=900k. You may go for a power tiller that goes for ard =N=150k to =N=250k depending on the Horse power, that should handle your requirements if your farm is still within an hectare |
feelamong:I agree with you.. the bear that will enter this mkt after interim dividend go give people HBP |
mriyesecnerwal:Simple thruth! No one ever get wealthy with salary job, its simply a rat race. |
This is good, I can see the updates on their website. |
I dont think we have it in Nigeria, they called it Kuroiler in Uganda. It is a dual-purpose breed that was introduced in Uganda in the year 2009 from Keggs Farms, India. It is said that Kuroiler can survive on free range, but they need to feed continuously, as such the can reach up to 3kg at 4 months and 4kg in 6 months. |
aresssa:Pls see specific action that the FG should put in place in this recession, 1. Fix Energy/Electricity problem - If FG can guarantee stable electricity supply of 20hrs in a day, it will reduce the cost of doing business by over 20% across board. Nigerian factories that moved to other African countries will return back to base, small scale industries will naturally spring up across the country and provide jobs. 2. Fix the Steel Industry - We need the FG to revive the moribund Steel Industry, steel development is believed to be the fundamental bedrock of economic growth. The iron and steel industry, as far as the development of all facets of life is concerned, is sine quo non. All other industries stem from the steel. The oil industry, the car manufacturing industry, the construction industry owe their existence and survival to the steel industry. 3. Build Road Networks & Improved Transportation System - FG need to invest massively into building road networks to solve the problem of demand and supply. We all know the poor status of our Railways, FG need to revive the railway networks to increase traffic volumes and secure a position as a key mover of goods and people. 4. Improved Agriculture Sector - We need the FG to encourage youths to move back farms by adopting improved farm mechanization, which is still a function of the Steel Industry and our Agric Research Institutes. We need to see programs that is geared towards taking excess farm produces from small scale farmers and encourage them to move to commercial level by creating less cumbersome process to export their farm produce. We need to see concrete partnership with private companies that will invest in preservation of excess farm produces at commercial level to sustain the interest and zeal of farmers to remain in production of crops and to stabilize price. Nigerian are hardworking people, Let FG provide a conducive environment to do business, thats all we need and you will see the positive results. Investing in commercial/retail real estate is simply a misplaced priority and cant bring the country out of this economic recession. |
$200m Agriculture Vehicles. Why do we have to spend $200m on Agricultural Vehicles, its simply unacceptable. There are Nigerians/Research institutes that have products(tractors) assembled along this line, what FG should do is to support them and mass produced it to be available and affordable to all farmers. For example, the Tryctor was invented and designed by Femi Odeleye (of Bespoke Design Concepts Ltd) to whom a registered Patent was issued in the year 2007 by NOTAP. Let FG partner with this chap and mass produced this tryctor at a cost of =N=50k to the average farmer, it currently cost over =N=1.3m without implements. This is the way to move the economy forward, not all these signing stuffs that dont benefit the average farmer. |
Slimszy:Pple will loan you money if you can convince them that you are serious. Thats why I said Friends and Families that knows you and your ability. Your friends need to choose a route that is profitable and watch his cost. All these factors mentioned also affects big coys too, thats why they always sack and reduce their cost. I agree with you that small scale business start ups is diffilcult, with dedication, discipline and prayer, one can succeed. All welders in Nigeria should have closed business if they take into consideration the eletricity saga, but they are still much around working and earning their living. |
Slimszy:This is the normal excuse, you dont need million to start a trade. For example, Get a Nigerian used Ford Galaxy for =N=350k, you can convince family and friends to assist and schedule a repayment plan for one year. Get it registered in a park and drive the car yourself with good maintenance culture. I assured you, you will make not less than =N=60k every month and over =N=100k during peak period and pay back the fund you borrowed You can get your business fund from this simple analysis. Now ask a normal Nigerian graduate if he can do this, the usual answer is No, How can I be a common driver with my Bsc, Msc, etccc |
emmahoney:The system is faulty becos all of us are looking for formal jobs with tie and suits in cosy environment. We are too lazy to think and to take action. We will move forward in Nigeria when we see our graduates (Bsc, Msc holders) moving to the informal sector and creating small businesses, setting up tomato farms ;setting up modern restaurants, setting up modern mechanics outfits etc etc etc These small scale businesses is the engine room of any economy, that why your friend in the USA got three good offers. |

Whats the price of the following 1. Power Tiller 2. Refurbished tractor |
Manual labor is a major issue almost everywhere apart from the North where we have army of Almajiris. Only alternative is to use basic garden tools that costs money and not readily available in Naija. For example, a small walking tractor will make complete your bed within an hour. |
[quote author=Ademat7 post=48302833]just thinking out loud! the rate of post harvest losses is alarming in this nation, from fruits, food crops, oil crops et al there is little industry to consume d produce and local consumption is not worth d effort and capital invested into agribusiness, how then do we generate FOREX if our target is produce&Consume style may I also state that our fellow ECOWAS neighbours can't buy agric produce from us because they are self sufficient in food production and at cheaper price compare to ours Your opinion about realistic solution is welcome. Cc: jethro2,pavore,farmtech,jasper,world1 et al[/quote Most agric businesses dont do business plan and feasibility study, result is definitely zero and post harvest loss. I just finished digesting Tomato Jos Business plan, you see their clear roadpath, model and their strategy for growth. With the business plan, no post harvest loss will emerge. We are too greedy and selfish, that,s the simple thruth. People need to come together and operate as a Cluster and create industry along the value chain. If we have 1000 tomato farmers for example in Jethro,s location, they can achieve more together in terms of creating a tomato paste factory in their location;access funds from govt, make the location a hub for tomato in South West, reduce their cost of production, target export market to Europe and the rest of the world. You also need to know that local demand of these products exceed its supply thats why we import virtually everything to complement what is on ground. For example, to be successful as a orange farmer, you must ensure consistency in production throughout the year and simultaneously work on having a small scale processing unit to process your fruits into juice in period of glut. |
binaflexia:Trap ke...Sleep mode activated.... |
Market is dull |
Paulordiah:5 yrs in the University has its own advantages while those road-side seminars teach you how to be smart on the street. We have an army of unemployed graduates that can use their sixth sense to start small scale businesses, yet we have wealthy folks that did not attend the university. You need both training to survive in this current economic era. |
myjoy085:Absolutely correct. |
You need to be careful of holding any stock forever, every financial instrument has its own cycle.... The watchword is vigilance and make your gains and enjoy your loot. |
angelo82:Best Days for TBills in Naija |
feelamong:Exactly! Why invest with mutual fund when you can make much more yourself. And the funny thing is that they are still going to charge their mgt fee. |
This is good news and the way forward. The problem is always the ability to sustain the progress, lets hope they can build on this and take over all markets in the east. |
sammily:FBN consummated my bid for 182 days. Funny indeed. |
Kalusam:Thanks for the detailed explanation, I will get back to you. |
Pls what is the cost of spray tube irrigation(with accessories( that will cover an acre of land? |
