wisdom will help one know the best approach to different cities. Going round shouting is not a good approach in this aspect. One on one will be best and even at that persecution is expected. And glory to God if I face persecution for Christ. Infact, I am coming Berlin. With prayers and supplication, I will affect that city for Jesus. Hallelujah
If you are a religious fanatic, Germany is the wrong country for you.
All those noise pollution people do in buses in the name of evangelism, or house to house visits is not accepted here.
Everyone has a right to live the way they feel like, as long as it doesn't endanger the next person.

I kind of find it weird, religion is and was never an african thing, but the way africans uphold religion, I still can not comprehend. We have more churches in Nigeria than factories, hospitals, schools. And we say Nigeria will be better.
Let me not derail this thread, but just so you know, when you get to Berlin and see grown men kissing each other on the street, mind your business.

My broda grin grin grin!!!

Germany has changed their DNA beyond recognition.

See this their thread wey 2-wheeled fools boast about bicycle, vegetarian food and humble living.

Just imagine. Living in the land of Mercedes Benz and not desiring to command a car like this!!!

Hollywood Lifestyle or Die Trying cool

It is people like you, that have led Nigeria to where she is now.
I pity your likes who think money and luxuries is all there is to life.

NB: If you dream and think once you land in Germany, during/after your studies you will start riding Benz and BMW.#
First, just make sure you denounce your Nigerian nationality, because once you get caught in whatever illegal activities you are doing, we don't want it to affect the already bastardized nigerian rep we have here. And if you think you will outsmart the system, then you are on a long thing.

I guess we can enable larger uploads.

If you enable larger uploads. Hmm, I don't even know how you are hosting this site? But you will also have to consider storage, which is not cheap.
Why not have an algorithm implemented at your backend that resizes the picture to a specific size without degrading the image, and then the frontend can fetch the final result. And the pictures should not be aligned one after the other, it makes it unusable for mobile users, you can create a folder type of handler to hold all pictures and users can decide to click on it to view or ignore. This shouldn't be so hard for you na Oga Seun.

Secondly, the security guarding how to post is crap. if you fix this, it will help reduce the scam/spammers on your site.
How do you solve this issue? Assign a minimum number of characters to be accepted, it should not be less than 100, this engages your users to write good content and not just gibberish or posting memes.
Thirdly, you can actually revamp this site and still maintain this same usability.

Finally, please, do no take this thread to the front page. ABEG!!

Guys I need to learn how to work around this website. I can’t believe a phone picture would be too large to post and you can’t post multiple pictures at once.

PS I hate iPhone camera sometimes. It doesn’t capture images as they are without that cinematic effect
The problem is not your phone it is nairaland, this is 2020, where phone cameras capture 48 or more MP and you can upload such to FB or insta. but nairaland has refused to leave the 2000s. I don't know why seun has refused to revamp or update the site.

I grew up in Lagos. I can’t live in a small city. I love the hustle, noise, madness, and people in big cities. What would life in Germany be without the everyday madness you see on the train and the street? They make it fun

You grew up in Lagos, as for me I was born in Lagos, did primary/high in Lagos, but left for another state in the south for Uni.

Then I realized the crazy traffic, noise pollution, madness of Lagos were actually not my thing. I loved how I will stop a bike and it will stop right in front of me, the rider would talk to me politely, and apologize should he mistakenly enter a pothole.

And life outside Lagos was really cheap, this same reason influenced my decision not to move to a big city here. The amount you pay for a single room apartment in Berlin will pay for a nice 3bedroom apartment in my city.
We only have one life to live, just live it to the fullest.

Good day Mr Daniel. thank you for all the honest updates on this amazing thread. keep up the good work sir.
pls I want to ask about the town kleve. How is life there generally, is it okay?

I am considering a bachelor's degree course (BIOENGINEERING) in Rhine-waal university of applied sciences in kleve. it is English taught and tuition free.
The school is demanding an English proficiency test (TOEFL or ielts) which I don't mind taking.

I am 22 and currently studying agriculture in a uni here in Nigeria (100level) plus I have an A'level certificate too.

which advice can you give me on this decision sir?
I am very very very eager to leave this kauntree...
Thanks in advance for your swift and honest response.

Mehn, is this is a prank, or what? If you have been paying attention, you should have read this reply, You should've just asked about the town and leave it at that. How do you expect him to give you a life-changing decision? When he literally doesn't even know you.

This one may offend some people but this thread is about knowledge and honesty. Please no judgement either.

There’s a lot prostitution going on here, we call them “Escort”. Both black men and women do it. It is a top secret and they’ll never tell you. You’ll just see that one black friend that has no job but is always traveling around and spending money. Well, if you look closely, they are escorts.

Most black men who do it are refugees and those without papers, who can’t get a job but have to survive. They are also mostly straight guys and they sleep with white men. Some of them have wives back home in Nigeria. They make A LOT of money from it, even more than those with jobs. They can make up to €150 - €200 an hour or €1000 overnight for sex. Imagine when you sleep with 10 people in a day.

Prostitution in Germany is legal but you’d have to pay tax because it is considered a job. Most of them don’t pay tax though. The police in Germany turn a blind eye to those things. They have more important things to worry about. Some of the boys/girls also come from Italy. They escort around Europe and go back to Italy where they live. Some countries like Switzerland give them tough time.

Some of them have gotten in trouble where their clients overdosed on drugs, or the clients call police on them after the agreement goes bad. Some also steal from the clients. The police don’t give these cases top priority.
Not only blacks do this. There are more Latino and white escorts as well. So yeah, there it is.

I knew it, there is this guy I know who always travels a lot, almost every weekend he is visiting a city in Europe. I just felt things didn't add up.
Because he wasn't from a rich family to afford such luxuries. Well, this may just be his form of hustling.
Inside life!

As a foreigner you should be careful not to get into trouble, some offences might earn you a deportation sharp sharp.

I knew this Nigerian man who stayed more than 6 months in Nigeria before returning to Germany. If you are not a citizen, you are not allowed to spend more than 6 months outside Germany only on special occasions.

Anyway, this man came back to Germany and he was threatened with deportation, he sued the foreign office and won but guess what?, he was still deported.

My dad and his friends had to donate money to him so he can start business in Nigeria.

I think it depends on the kind of residence permit you have. With the Blue card its 12months.

A passport good but isn't always your ticket to acceptance, in real life, I have friends who are citizens abroad but do you know they seem more concerned about happenings here than I am. They flood my whatsapp with updates on covid19 here despite the fact that the virus is committing more havoc over there? they also seem less concerned about where they live(3 are citizens). One watches nothing but Nigerian movies and T...V...Ceeee, I know it's because they haven't been accepted over there and believe me they are passport holders.

Well, like I said earlier, living in Asia (singapore or Japan) is still something I would consider but certainly not as a Nigerian. So, getting a passport that would enable migration easily is surely a ticket.

I think it varies. Some people don't want to live in Germany forever, hence they try to invest back home so once it's their retirement, they will go back and enjoy their investment. This is my opinion though, from what I've observed.

I'm still a student, so I don't feel that settled just yet, but I have my family here so I feel somewhat settled, if that makes sense lipsrsealed

You are on point @ bolded, but I do ask myself, with the kind of contribution I pay monthly. If after working for 30years, why should I leave my contributions and go back home? We all know old age come with different ailment, can i get top notch medical aid in Nigeria? Will my children follow me back to Nigeria?

I feel, if you do not pay that much into the social system, then you have nothing to lose, when you want to retire.

Nigerians in Germany and abroad in general, I have a question.

Do you feel settled in Germany or where you live?

Personally, I feel almost settled ( almost because, the next goal is to have a German Passport tongue ).
Funny as it may sound, we all left Nigeria for one reason and if almost all the boxes have been ticked, why not take the prized jewel and move ahead. The green passport unfortunately has more or less no value. However, I would want to experience life in Asia as a different national (Japan or Singapore to be precise), before I can conclude. UK/USA is a no no, Canada too cold for me.

I see Nigerians here who live in a room in shared apartment but they’re building houses and buying cars in Nigeria and sending all their money to Nigeria. They probably would not live in the house they’re building in Nigeria and they don’t intend to return to Nigeria to live. So what’s the purpose?
This is an individual thing, some people like showing off or oppressing their needy kinsmen, or they want to portray a successfull image of (I don make am).
Some would say it is some kind of investments, but we all know most often time, how this kind of stories end. As for me, I will always place my money where my mouth is.

I’ve always believed in enjoying my money cos life is short and I make myself at home anywhere I live. I don’t see why I’ll be working hard in Germany but live like a pauper and all my money will be going to Nigeria, I’ll be buying cars in Nigeria that I won’t drive. Or a house that I’ll only stay in when I visit once in a year.
My goal is just to live my life, and enjoy the proceeds of my hardwork, help those who need help without enabling any sense of entitlement.

I want to hear your thoughts on this.
This is an interesting topic.

Oktoberfest is an annual ceremony that happens mainly in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. Cities like Munich, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, na dem carry am for head. They wear their traditional German costume and celebrate. It’s basically a beer festival. So lots of beer drinking and sausages and other German food. It’s quite huge. People visit from around the world to experience it.
The first time I went there, I just wanted someone to get me out of there. It was too German for me.
Nö, Oktoberfest is a Munich thing, in other parts of Bavaria, there are similar beer festivals which looks like Oktoberfest, and I personally find them more interesting than Oktoberfest.

There’s “who you know” in every aspect. They pretend like it doesn’t exist but it does. Even when you don’t feel like going to work, your friendly doctor can give you a sick leave and lie for you. If you know people in certain occupations they can help you get things done by calling their friends on your behalf. Even in cases of visa. They won’t get it done expressly but they’ll make it easier for you. All by the law.

The thing in Germany is, professionals know other professionals. A doctor might have a lawyer friend that deals with immigration, the lawyer might know someone in foreigners office, a catholic priest will know someone in Asylum office, just like that. You’d be surprised what one professional friend can do for you. All coded.

It is called Vitamin B. This helped me during my internship search and my current job

Please use the 'Report' feature to report porn images and spammers whenever you come across them.

Don't Quote them because quoting them is tantamount to spreading them.

Once you come across any of such images, spams, kindly report them without quoting them so that the moderators will swiftly act on them.

Thanks

And you think reporting them will help? This is 2020 for crying out loud.
If Nairaland can not increase its posting security I am afraid reporting them won't stop it.
For a start, tell Seun to set a minimum amount of text before it is posted.
Secondly, every new user should have 2 level authentication. What you guys have here is crap.
For pics, there are lots of already implemented AI solutions that check images before it is published.
It is a pity to see how Nairaland is falling.

Very true. Most African parents also did not give room for their children to be able to maintain eye contact. If you don't maintain eye contact when they are talking, they will see you as being "humble" "polite" and "respectful". The reverse is the case in developed countries such as Canada, the United States, and Europe were being able to maintain eye contact is seen as being bold, confident and that you are 100% interested in what the person is saying. Sometimes, the society one finds him/herself is a contributing factor to one’s trait.
This is so true. If you maintain eye contact when talking to African parents or elders, it is seen as been rude and disrespectful.

The insight you have managed to gathered in just your less than three months is what the person in the link at the end of your post arguably missed during his days in DE. I know it is not easy to make sharp decisions like this one you are about to make but regardless of what the counselor will tell you (he or she will most likely advise from a German perspective), you have already discovered your truth, just GO FOR IT.

The advise I personally give to people (new students) nowadays is, if you are not studying anything related to "Informatics", just make sure you get to at least B2 or B1 level before you graduate, to even stand a chance unless your plan is PhD or to move to another country. I have more than enough friends that are doing or have done second MSc. Because your most important skill in Germany is the language, just that it is less important for IT jobs (not that it is not).

My few advise here (personal opinion though):
1. if age is still on your side (maybe < 25yrs), go for the BSc, the process is largely the the same as stated by the schools you are going (just that Visa hustle is out of it.) If you consider age to not really be on your side, with the evolution of Industry 4.0 - a fusion of informatics to other (engineering) areas, which is a very big topic in Germany. You might be able to get a MSc program that fuses both your Engineering/Geo with IT .. and you learn along (might be tough but also worth it). If you put in the work, you can still nail at least an IT entry role after your study.

A former colleague (A Medical Dr.), we met at a Health-Tech company, took the Medical Informatics MSc in Deggendorf and still works as a Data Scientist there. I (Chemical Engineer) even though with previous experience as a Software Engineer in NG before coming to DE had to switch to IT related program(Digital Engineering MSc) - after 'investing' two semesters studying MSc Chemical Engr. before "my eye open" which has now led me to IT positions in few of the biggest firms in DE .. during and after my study.

So, if you search very well, you might be able to get something along that line as a lot of such programs are popping up and if you take/have online IT tutorials and certifications (programming, data analysis etc.) that can aid your application.

2. I saw that you mentioned Electrical and Electronics Engineering as option... biko, I am begging you to not consider that at all (it is largely same same...) ..if you are going to make the switch... kuku ma go Informatics straight o.. unless you have it in mind to have your B2 before you finish your program.

3. When you are choosing your school, if possible prioritize the one(s) in or closer to states/cities with growing startup ecosystem .. they have more low hanging entries than where you have more of the big German coys.

(not really sure about your insinuation about this part but..)
Permanent Residency is a function of your contributions: tax, social, welfare etc. to the system and because if you are earning enough to get a Blue Card, that contributions will be better and faster and that is why you can get your PR faster with Blue Card than someone holding the normal residence. Also, the earning requirement for Blue Card is not the same across all profession e.g for IT is about 53k or so while for Scientist/Researchers is about 40k and for IT .. you will need about 3 yrs working experience to earn up to that (personal evaluation though).

Best wishes in whatever conclusion you arrive at.

The bolded is not absolutely correct, the minimum wage for getting a blue card is 41k if your job falls within what is termed Mangelberuf
They basically check if what you studied and your job is in this category.
Applying for a niederlassung(permanent residency) requires you to have at least B1, this can be issued after 18months after getting the blue card.
