I don’t know if this is the right section to bring this up; I’m doing it because I believe those here are current or former student in Germany. I was offered admission to study in Munich (MSc). I did my enrollment in proxy and funded before visa interview. It’s been 4 weeks into lectures now and I’m not yet in Germany because of delay in visa. The last info I got from the embassy is that my visa application is still under review. Since lectures have already started, would this negatively affect the outcome of visa?

You should search online and get the number/email of the foreigners' office where your school is located and enquire.
Exam registration is commencing next week and 4weeks into lectures. Hmm that is a lot of work for you.
If I were in your shoes and it is possible to defer the admission, I would do it.
But since you are already enrolled it kind of make your situation complicated.

I would Also what to know how these cities are in terms of student jobs and which is preferable
Siegen
Paderborn
Bayreuth

Cc
dobeespen , willy2000 , pompido , themaestro08 and any other who have an idea or is in any of the city, please.

Siegen and Paderborn I know via Map. So, i have no idea what is obtainable over there.
As for Bayreuth, it was the first city I visited on my arrival. It is a nice place, with a beautiful campus ( The only school in Bayern with a normal campus setting). If you want to study and learn(no side hustle), this is the place, accommodation is cheap and scarce here compared to some other cities.
The number of Nigerian Students is encouraging, this means you are not alone should you have questions or issues.
But if your goal is to work and make good cash during study, then make sure your German skills are top notch. The city is actually isolated and far from the bigger cities around which makes it inconvenient to work during semesters outside the city.

MarkGud:
Elders in Germany, what is/are your opinion on my MSc choice of course; Materials Science. I need to know the job opportunities after studies and if it is one of those highly sought after courses in Germany. Make son of man no go knack head for wall and start opening threads after studies.

Like someone pointed out. All courses are marketable and lucrative, it all depends on how you go about selling your self to prospective employers.
If you wish to study a course which makes you interact much with customers, then you have to brush up your language skills, because you will be competing with native speakers and other European citizens. If it is more technical, then you also have to acquire and sharpen your technical skills. At the end of the day, there is actually no short cuts.

If he doesn't know how to address these bet spamming scammers he or any mod can open a thread and get ideas from Nairalanders so that sanity can be restored.

Its clear that the current methods used to check these people are not working.
I hope he gets to read this.
And from the look of things, it seems he has also reduced his bandwidth or has run out of bandwidth.
Anyway, Nairaland is not far from the mediocrity that is seen and praised in Nigeria daily.

Well, I wont blame you much. You no sabi who you dey follow talk shaa.
But please, check my previous posts, I never said that anyone who failed any course in Germany is unserious. I simply said that anyone who failed one particular course three times is not only unserious but highly incompetent. Lets stop painting words here. if you fail a course once, its understandable but failing three good times is the height of incompetence and unseriousness. Its not overconfidence, its simple fact and you know it

I know say you be first class efico, no problem.
But you should also know that 70% is an A in Nigeria but here you need above 95% to get 1.0.
Wish you all the best anyway.

Please, from all research I have conducted both in quora and nairaland, they keep mentioning IT everywhere.

Please can you recommend high demanding IT skills one can learn in Germany since you are already in Germany?
I have never programmed in my life.
Just recommend skills I can acquire alongside my studies for my own development

High demanding IT skills depend on which area, web dev, software dev, mobile, dev, DevOps(hottest kid on the block), AI(this is very broad), data science...........and so on.

But with Web Dev, you can't go wrong. (learn HTML, CSS, Javascript, Angular, React, ) for frontend. (Java, Php, Nodejs) for backend.

You can start with HTML CSS, then move to Javascript, and then React before Angular for frontend development.
For backend, I would say learn JAVAEE with ( Spring/Hibernate) and Nodejs. But if you are already proficient in Javascript, then perfect your backend skills with Nodejs and learn other frameworks to it.
All in all, programming is not all about what language you are proficient in, it is about how to analyse and solve problems. Your architecture and logic implementations are what makes you a good developer. This is where a good knowledge of data structures and algorithm come into play.

See just stay focus and forget all this IT hype, learn German and follow your passion. If you jump ship because people are saying so,hmm. The grass is not always green on the other side.

My brother, there is absolutely no reason to congratulate someone who fail one course three times. It shows unseriousness, It shows incompetence.
Though I have never failed any course since I was born but If I fail one course just once, I will feel so devastated and be motivated to make A the second time.
There is only two words to use to qualify someone who fail one particular course three times.
1. Incompetence
2. Unseriousness

Bro, I would advise you to be humble, failing a course in Germany doesn't mean you are unserious. Wait till you come, then you see how different and intense it is to study here. Besides, overconfidence is a dangerous trait to bring over here. Once you fail an exam, it is difficult to pass it the second time without sacrificing something in your life, and if you fail the second time, the pressure of losing your student status will make you lose concentration when studying for the third trial.

Saying you have never failed an exam b4 ....hm no comment. I just hope you don't fail any when you get here.

Hahaha...Bro, are you a newbie in gender issues? Don't you know married women cheat MORE than single but engaged women? Proximity to a spouse DOESN'T guarantee faithfulness! If it does why do married people living and working in the same city divorce over infidelity? Why do Nigerian women top the chart, in the whole world and on this planet, of birthing bastards to their husbands?

I'm very aware of the hypergamous nature of women, so I wouldn't trust any married woman. Give her the right sensation and she would be riding another man's c.ock! Married women, no matter their proximity with their husbands, are the easiest to smash! wink wink

Professor of women affairs. At bolded can you elucidate more and quote your sources?
Or it is just another statistic cooked up from your anti-feminism book.

Hmm, while it is true that no one takes attendance, it is mandatory (or at least required by some law) that at least 30 ECTS is passed by a certain period (I think 2nd or 3rd semester, not exactly sure now) else you will be reported to the alien's office by the school which would lead to an investigation and possible revocation of your visa.

Like I said each school has its own rules, and each faculty also has its own specific regulations. The bolded does not apply to my faculty. And I am so sure and certain about it because I have spoken to one professor who is in charge of admission. (I actually worked for him, so I know much about how they admit students and so on)

You signed your acceptance of the school and city's data processing rules which I am sure the fine prints states they can share your information when necessary so you can't claim data privacy grin

The above did not apply to me, because I read and understood what I signed. I can upload a snippet of it if required just clear any doubts.

You can not abandon your studies entirely for something else. Experiences abound of people that left school to hustle and make money, got investigated and their visas revoked.
Please note that you can not fail any compulsory course 3 times, if you do you are out of the program and can not apply to a similar program in the whole of Germany.
I know this will come up. Like I said earlier, my faculty does not use this rule, but other faculties do. I know of BWL, this rule is applicable there.
Besides we do not have any compulsory course but have courses/modules distributed in different pools of sections label A1 - A5. You are required to have a minimum and maximum number of ECTS from each pool. So if for example, if you take a course from A1 and you fail, you can take from A2 or A3 to replace it, so long you meet the total amount of required ECTS needed from A1. But the only rule is, after a maximum of six semesters, you must have accumulated 120 ECTS. I have seen a friend who wrote his thesis in the seventh semester, so this rule is also flexible, which was a surprise to me.

My advice would be to spread your studies such that it gives you time to learn other things. Say you have 6 courses in a semester, you can take 3 so you have time for other endeavors you want to embark on. Or you can rush your courses in the first 2 semesters (take all compulsory courses plus enough electives that you are very free by your 3rd semester. You can then start learning those things and take things easy for another 4 semesters if you decide to max out the allowed time for M.Sc.

Another way to extend your time while studying (I first saw this done in Bayern) is to get a medical waiver from a doctor saying you need a semester or a year off due to some psychological or health reasons (pressure from home etc. Na one runs doctor arrange am o grin), the waiver is submitted to the school and if considered you get a year off to learn whatever you want (conditions for this will vary with city and school though). One can also request or inquire from your school's registrar's office (DE: Prüfungsamt).
There are lots of little benefits that exist if you attend a relatively smaller University compared to bigger ones. You never know until you get in.
At the bolded is normal in Bayern, I also took a semester off during my internship, a maximum of two-semester breaks is allowed.

From my experience here so far, I would advise you to just be positive about life, make plans and even if things don't go as plan, keep your head high and keep moving.
Shalom.

You can’t abandon a course you enrolled in the foreigners' office in any country. They get constant feedback from your school on how you perform and your attendance, those people even see your account balance. Very low credit scores and absenteeism leads to revoking of visa and back to Naija. This is, in general, tho, not just Germany
This is not true? In my school no one takes attendance, it is even a law in Bayern Universities, attendance is not important and your grades are not sent to anybody, that is why there are data privacy laws. Even your professors can only see which modules you have taken if they are not his modules and not your total grades. I have taken exams without attending the classes. The downside is, it is usually difficult to pass but it is doable.
The major issue is, after three semesters you are not allowed to change your University anymore.
And you are given a stipulated amount of time to finish the program, my school gives max six semesters for a master program, even if you fail a module more than 3 times, it does not affect your status or your grade. However, this is not usually the norm in other schools.

I’m not discouraging anyone from doing
menial jobs at the beginning. Re read all my post , we are talking LONG TERM. The op made this post because he said does not see any PROFFESIONAL career opportunities LONG TERM in Germany . From his experience it has been difficult for him to secure any professional jobs. Plus he is there on a visa .

You should have asked the op some pertinent questions like, what did he study? How well does he speak the language?
You attend a University and study a non-commercial course just for the sake of studying Abroad. He mentioned STEM, that is ambiguous.

Stop arguing with those dissenting voices! It’s insane to spend over $65,000 from your parents in Nigeria on tuition overseas in a country like Australia and you end up packing shi.it of older citizens and wash plates in restaurants while having some masters degree and be deceiving yourself that “it is just for the time being”.

Trust me, it is easier for you to convince a brick wall to submit to your superior argument on here than to convince some sluggards on this forum on the importance of dignity and sense in yourself. A living witness here, I NEVER EVER NEVER EVER DID NO DAMN MENIAL SHI.T WHEN I WENT ABROAD. All I had to do was scale my expenses for the entire year during my student visa and post-study visa, paid my rents 12 months upfront and got my allowances 12 months upfront (albeit little in comparison to what menial guys make). I got a decent paying contract job while on student visa within 3 months of stepping foot into the country.

I told myself before leaving Nigeria that ANY job that I can’t do in Nigeria, I will never do abroad. It’s really a personal decision which I think it’s sane but people here be thinking because you’re African, you must appreciate just “being” in the foreign country. Balderdash trash!

Get off your high horses and face reality, because your family is wealthy to sponsor you and even give you allowances, doesn't mean every other student have such luxuries. The bigger than attitude we have in Nigeria is the reason we are, where we are now. There is dignity in Labour.

Justwise , you are not exposed at all. I have lived abroad for over 20’years , so I know what I’m talking about. That’s why Nigeria is not good . Do Chinese or lebanese come to Nigeria to take cleaning jobs or gateman jobs?

I think you are the one, who is more or less unexposed. Since when did cleaning jobs equate to unfulfilled future?
A professor friend, once told me how he picked potatoes on a farm when things were difficult for him. But today he is a Prof and is fulfilled? Mind you, he is German.
Doing menial jobs as a buffer doesn't make you less human, but instead, it propels you to strive and work harder. The op is just 25 with a master degree and he is complaining... Only if he knew how delicate this life is.

Your story is quite unfortunate but you made a lot of poor choices , first you came to the US and overstayed thinking that you could stay and marry somebody. And then you can to Nigeria with no money so it’s not surprise that life has been difficult for you.

Sincerely speaking, you don't have to be judgemental here. He made those choices based on the information he had at hand. And now he is sharing his story not for us to pity him, but for someone out there to learn and not make the same mistake he made. So stop playing perfect, or as they say "Besserwisser".

Bro, I'm in the same situation like you. Little over one year left on the work visa, constant thoughts to move to naija cos mehn i'm not cutout for some menial jobs here after my masters studies but from what I read here today, I have second thoughts now.

There are a number of nigerians doing prof. Jobs and there are those who enjoy the menial ones but I have to say, you need to give up the idea that africans are given the least priority when you apply for jobs. If you hold on to that, you won't send at least 2 applications a day. It's hard composing a great cover letter and getting a rejection almost immediately but don't give up. It's hard seeing you are a perfect fit for a job and never chosen. Still, never give up.

A friend of mine who got a job with about 2 months left said the magic number is 100 apps. Until then, you have done nothing. You need to improve your german while you send those apps and you need to do the menial jobs to survive while you await the prof jobs. Nothing is easy bro. Get yourself enrolled in another masters and learn something new on youtube as internet is readily available.

I wish you all the best bro. We will get through this!!!

What I see is people failing to understand that in Germany, it is difficult to break through without the German language. I saw recently an advert in my town looking for java developers with C2 language proficiency. _I had to show some of my friends the advert, because I felt that is a subtle way of saying we need only native speakers.
_Below is what you see when reading job adverts

Das solltest Du mitbringen (What you should bring)

Abgeschlossenes Studium im Bereich Informatik oder Naturwissenschaften
Erste Praxiserfahrung in der Software-Entwicklung (First hand experience in software development)
Gute Kenntnisse in Java und JavaScript (knowledgeable in ..........)
Spaß an der Arbeit im Team (Enjoy working and also in Team)
Sehr gute Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse ( Fluent in German and English) Here Fluent is not B1, it starts from B2

Men and women in Nigeria are not treated equally.

I saw the fallacy in his statement, but I wanted more clarity from him.

How can you think of marrying someone and not wanting to be her?
Maybe, there is another definition of marriage which I am unaware of.

It's no more advisable to be married in the West. It's become a raw deal for men here in the West. Women here see men as disposable utilities, and with the gynolunatic laws they can ruin your life! Sincerely the juice ain't worth the squeeze anymore.

If you want to marry, then marry and leave your wife in a sane country where men and women are treated equally and where the laws are not biased against men. You can marry a girl in Naija and leave her there. Have kids with her (maximum of 2 children and make sure you do DNA tests IMMEDIATELY they are birthed because you don't wanna raise another man's sperm!), build her and your children a house making sure your sisters are close to them and your wife and kids are under their radar.

The rate at which men commit suicide after getting divorce-raped in western family courts is alarming! You don't wanna be a married man here!
.
Isn't being a baby daddy better than marrying a woman and leaving her in another part of the planet? Now, you want to have your wife and kids under the radar while you are not? Why starve a woman from love and affection if what you need are children?

No, I never said the Naija based girls were better. My point was that do NOT marry any girl in the west or do NOT marry a girl in Naija and bring her to the west....she will ruin your life and make you miserable unless you really wanna be a slave. If you don't always put her on a pedestal she will file domestic violence against your as.s....Women, by nature, are Selfish and Evil!

do NOT marry any girl in the west or do NOT marry a girl in Naija and bring her to the west

So where should one marry from na.?

Won't they ask me the relationship between biology and programming?

Programming is not by any means related to biology which happens to be the course of study in University

Bro if you are good, your employer will go all the way to retain you. There is always an exception to every case.
I know of a student(Indian), came as a student and after 2 months got a job and applied for blue card.
Nothing is impossible, besides, I am yet to see anyone who finished his degree and was sent home because he did not get a job that commensurates what he studied. You can choose to return if you feel, and have a higher dream like the poster in the other thread.

What a wonderful response.
Please at the bolded, how can someone change to IT field if he didn't get job related to his field after graduation?
I am admitted to Applied Geoscience in RWTH Aachen University.
I am highly dedicated to work really hard to get professional Job but won't mind changing to IT field if I don't get job after graduation.
Is it by starting a fresh Msc?
I heard Bsc demands fluency in Deutsch.
Please I really wanna know how to change to IT if it comes to worst since it seems that's where there are lots of jobs.

Mehn, were you the one asking if you can earn €10k a year working as a student?
If yes, hmm unless you don't want to abandon your education, RWTH is among the top 5 schools in Germany, be prepared.
When I mean be prepared, start reading and researching on the modules you are going to take.
e go be like dream, when u enter class and after 90mins, you will start soul searching and asking yourself if you really attended a University in Nigeria. True story ohh

According to German system for permanent residency, the student should get job related to course of study for permanent residency.
If that is the case, it means you must get job related to your Msc degree not programming before you can be considered for permanent residency?

Please this is just a question, I will really want people to clarify this point.
My priority is to follow every possible path to get permanent residency irrespective of the initial payment

Bro, there is always a way out. Even if you study Biology and you get a job as a programmer, what really matters is your paygrade, which in my analogy is not going to be bad. But, if you studied Geoscience and end up working in Amazon, then you have explaining to do.
