Atheism is not a religion....it does not claim to do good when it is actually the embodiment of evil.....
So what is atheism and why are you spreading it, if it is not a thing.

Science

Kennedy and Newcombe also argue that science has its roots in Christianity. They point out that other world religions may express a worldview of fatalism (everything is fatalistically determined) or of illusion (that the physical world is an illusion). Science could not have arisen from these worldviews.

Christianity on the other hand, is based on the notion that there exists a rational God who is the source of rational truth. This, they argue, gave rise to the possibility of scientific laws.

Evidence for this view is that nearly all the founders of modern science were Christians. These include men such as Keppler, Boyle, Pascal, Pasteur, Newton, etc.

Free Enterprise and the Work Ethic

Private property rights can be traced to the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20:15, 17 (Thou shalt not steal,?Thou shalt not covet."wink--as well as to other passages from the Old and New Testaments. Interestingly, there are over 700 references to money in the Bible!

It is noteworthy that Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations was written in 1776, the same year as the birth of America. But many historians credit theologian John Calvin from 200 years earlier as the person who is most responsible for putting together the principles that were always in the Bible into a system adapted by the American founders. For example, the biblical doctrines of self-reliance and self-denial are the foundation of the famous "Protestant work ethic." These doctrines are at the heart of our economic (and political) way of life.

A distinction can be made between biblical capitalism and evolutionary capitalism. The emphasis on biblical capitalism is on the importance of servanthood--a key teaching of Jesus. Evolutionary capitalism, on the other hand, relies solely on the survival of the fittest.

Anyone who doubts the relationship of biblical ideas to free enterprise need only to note the stark contrast with communism. Communism is specifically an atheistic system that relies on the non-biblical notion that all men are good (thus will work for the common good). But communism has been an abject economic failure.

As put by D'Spouza, "The system of modern capitalism arose in the West. To some it is surprising that capitalism developed so easily in conjunction with a Christian ethic. But capitalism  satisfied the Christian demand for an institution that channels selfish human desire toward the betterment of society. Some critics accuse capitalism of being a selfish system, but the selfishness is not in capitalism—it is in human nature....While profit remains the final goal, entrepeneurs spend the better part of each day figuring out how better to serve the needs of their actual and potential customers. They are operationally, if not intentionally, altruistic....One may say that capitalism civilizes greed in much the same way that marriage civilizes lust."

Art, Music, Literature

The influence of Jesus on art, music, and literature is enormous. For example, the Christian faith has influenced literature in such Christian writers such as Dante, Chaucer, Donne, Dostoevsky, Shakespeare, Dickens, Milton, etc.

Had Jesus never been born, music would likely sound very different from what we're used to. There may never have developed the cantata, the concerto, or the symphony. Handel, Vivaldi, and Bach were Christians who worked to honor God with their work. Bach, for example, signed all his works with Soli Deo Gloria ("Solely to the glory of God"wink.

Art has likewise been magnificently impacted by Jesus. While much modern art seems to debase the human spirit, classical Christian art tries to bring out the best of mankind--pointing us to a higher plane. This is certainly a tribute to Jesus.

And think of all the incredible architecture through the years. Especially noteworthy are the beautiful cathedrals in Europe.

Government of the People

While America's constitutional government is not specifically Christian, it can be argued that its roots are taken from biblical doctrines. Here are just a few possible arguments in this regard:

America's first constitution was the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut. The Puritan framers of this document required that each aspect of it be grounded in Scripture. Other constitutions to follow contained many similarities to this one.
At least 50 of the 55 signers of the U.S. Constitution were orthodox Christians.
There is no doubt that the concept of our Constitutional checks and balances system is a direct result of the biblical doctrine of the sinfulness of mankind. All of our founders understood the importance of this doctrine to the social order.
America's foundational idea of The Rule of Law rather than the authority of man traces back to the Old Testament, beginning with the Ten Commandments.
The idea that all men are created equal as enshrined in the Declaration of Independence is a biblical doctrine.
The notion of the sovereign authority of God (as mentioned in the Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, all 50 state constitutions, our currency, etc.)--rather than the sovereignty of the state--is certainly biblical.
The existence of moral absolutes (a biblical concept) is an important idea in our Declaration of Independence--specifically, self-evident truths and unalienable rights from the Creator.
Many other aspects of our laws come directly from the Bible--for example the judicial, legislative and executive branches trace to Isaiah 33:22. Fair trials with witnesses have numerous Old and New Testament support.
Regarding civil liberty, founding father John Adams (and others) emphasized 2 Corinthians 3:17 as the basis for American civil liberty. The slogan on the Liberty Bell is "Proclaim Liberty throughout the land unto all the Inhabitants Thereof" is from Leviticus 15:10. Kennedy and Newcombe argue that Jesus himself was the greatest civil libertarian of all time.

Marriage and Family

As explained by D'Souza, before the Chistian era, pederasty and homosexuality were not considered wrong: "Christianity exalted heterosexual monogamous love, which would provide the basis for a lasting and exclusive relationship between husband and wife, oriented toward the rearing of children. We take the family so much for granted—it remains such a powerful ideal in our society, even when actual family life falls short— that we forget the central premises on which it is based. Those premises were introduced by Christianity into a society to which they were completely foreign."

Education

From the beginning of Judaism, from which Christianity is derived, there was an emphasis on the written word. But the phenomenon of education for the masses has its roots in the Protestant Reformation.

In order to promote Bible literacy, Christians have been leaders in education. This trend was accelerated with the advent of the printing press at about the same time as the Protestant Reformation. Many of the world's languages were first set to writing by Christian missionaries in order for people to read the Bible.

In America, the first law to require education of the masses was passed by the Puritans. The law was called "THE OLD DELUDER SATAN ACT." This name was a reference to the devil, who Christians believe gets his foothold into people's lives because of their ignorance of Scripture.

For the first 200 years in America, children's reading texts emphasized biblical literacy. The emphasis on literacy was so intense in colonial America, that John Quincy Adams said in the early 1800's that the illiteracy rate was only 4/10th of 1 percent. By comparison, it has been estimated that in America today, 40 million people are functionally illiterate.

All but one of the first 123 colleges in colonial America were Christian institutions. While these universities have lost their Christian identities, it is interesting to read the founding statements of these schools. Harvard, for example, was founded on this statement: Let every student be plainly instructed, and earnestly pressed to consider well, the maine end of his life and studies is, to know God and Jesus Christ which is eternall life, John 17:3?

Impact on the Value of Human Life

Human Rights:

The concept of universal human rights and equality comes exclusively from the biblical idea that all people are created in the image of God.

Women.

In ancient cultures, a wife was the property of her husband. Aristotle said that a woman was somewhere between a free man and a slave. According to the book Reasons for God by Tim Keller (page 249), "It was extremely common in the Greco-Roman world to throw out new female infants to die from exposure, because of the low status of women in society. The church forbade its members to do so. Greco-Roman society saw no value in an unmarried woman, and therefore it was illegal for a widow to go more than two years without remarrying. But Christianity was the first religion to not force widows to marry. They were supported financially and honored within the community so that they were not under great pressure to remarry if they didn't want to. Pagan widows lost all control of their husband's estate when they remarried, but the church allowed widows to maintain their husband's estate. Finally, Christians did not believe in cohabitation. If a Christian man wanted to live with a woman he had to marry her, and this gave women far greater security. Also, the pagan double standard of allowing married men to have extramarital sex and mistresses was forbidden. In all these ways Christian women enjoyed far greater security and equality than did women in the surrounding culture. See Rodney Stark, The Rise of Christianity." In India, widows were voluntarily or involuntarily burned on their husbands' funeral pyres. Christian missionaries were a major influence in stopping these century-old practices and ideas. Also see Misconceptions item #13.
Children. In the ancient world, for example in classical Rome or Greece, infanticide was not only legal, it was applauded. Killing a Roman was murder, but it was commonly held in Rome that killing one's own children could be an act of beauty. Through a higher view of life, it was the early Christian church that ultimately brought an end to infanctide. The modern pro-life movement is largely Christian. This pro-life view has been true from the very beginning of Christianity. A Christian document called the Didache, dated from the late first century or early second century, contained instructions against abortion.

Slavery.

While it is true that Christians have owned slaves in history, it is clear that this was a distortion of biblical teaching. Early Christianity elevated the roles of those oppressed in society, by for example, accepting women and slaves as full members. Slaves participated equally in worship and the community and were afforded contract and property rights. According to historian Glenn Sunshine in his book Why You Think the Way You do, "Christians were the first people in history to oppose slavery systematically. Early Christians purchased slaves in the markets simply to set them free." It is also true that slavery was ended in great measure by Christian activists. For example, historians credit the British evangelical William Wilberforce as the primary force behind the ending of the international slave trade (which happened prior to the American Civil War). Two-thirds of the members of the American abolition society in 1835 were Christian ministers.

Gladiators.

A 5th century monk, Telemachus is credited as being the pivotal force ending the gladiator spectacles.

Cannibalism. Missionary followers of Jesus are credited with stopping cannibalism in many primitive societies.

A clear question.

Christians are mandated to be in hospitals giving hope to the hopeless, in prisons - giving hope to the condemned.

Christians built most of the orphanages in the world.

Ecucational institutes like havard, princeton, oxford etc were built by christians.

"Christianity is responsible for the way our society is organized and for the way we currently live. So extensive is the Christian
contribution to our laws, our economics, our politics, our arts, our calendar, our holidays, and our moral and cultural priorities that historian J. M. Robers writes in The Triumph of the West ,
'We could none of us today be what we are if a handful of Jews nearly two thousand years ago had not believed that they had known a great teacher, seen him crucified, dead, and buried, and then rise again.' " (From the book What's So Great about Christianity by Dinesh D'Souza.)

In terms of education, a study published in the Review of Religious Research stated: "education positively affects religious participation, devotional activities, and emphasizing the importance of religion in daily life" Springer: http://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2Fs13644-011-0007-4

This notable study was popularised in

and CP
(http://www.christianpost.com/news/who-is-more-religious-53865/ ).

"Church attendance has as much effect on the
grade point average (GPA) of a teenager as whether the parents of the child earned a college degree"; students who attend church have an increase of .144 in their GPA in comparison to atheists (Sociological Quarterly: http://connection.ebscohost.com/c/articles/34099196/going-church-helps-students-grades ).

In medicine, the prestigious Mayo Clinic found: "We reviewed published studies, meta-analyses, systematic reviews, and subject reviews that examined the association between religious involvement and spirituality and physical health, mental health, health-related quality of life, and other health outcomes. We also reviewed articles that provided suggestions on how clinicians might assess and support the spiritual needs of patients. Most studies have shown that religious involvement and spirituality are associated with better health outcomes, including greater longevity, coping skills, and health-related quality of life (even during terminal illness) and less anxiety, depression, and suicide" (PubMed:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11761504 ).

A study performed at Duke University concluded that "lower blood pressures were also observed among those who frequently prayed or studied the Bible (daily or more often)"
(PubMed: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9724889 ).
In addition, researchers at" Duke University
Medical Center have shown that people who regularly attend religious services appear to have a healthier immune system than those who don't"
(DUMC: http://www.dukehealth.org/health_library/news/663 ;PubMed: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9565726 ).

In terms of mental health: "Religiously unaffiliated subjects had significantly more lifetime suicide attempts and more first- degree relatives who committed suicide than subjects who endorsed a religious affiliation. Unaffiliated subjects were younger, less often married, less often had children, and had less contact with family members. Furthermore, subjects with no religious affiliation perceived fewer reasons for living, particularly fewer moral objections to suicide.

In terms of clinical characteristics, religiously unaffiliated subjects had more lifetime impulsivity, aggression, and past substance use disorder"
(American Psychiatric Association: http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/article.aspxVolume=161&page=2303&journalID=13 ).

"The Cambridge Companion to Atheism" states: "Concerning suicide rates, religious nations fare better than secular nations. According to the World Health
Organization's report on international male suicide rates, of the top ten nations with the highest male suicide rates, all but one (Sri Lanka) are strongly irreligious nations with high levels of atheism. Of the top remaining nine nations leading the world in male suicide rates, all are former Soviet/Communist nations, such as Belarus, Ukraine, and latvia.
Of the bottom ten nations with the lowest male suicide rates, all are highly religious nations with statistically insignificant levels of organic atheism."

In terms of charity: "The scholars say their studies found that religious people are three to four times more likely to be involved in their community. They are more apt than
nonreligious Americans to work on community projects, belong to voluntary associations, attend public meetings, vote in local elections, attend protest demonstrations and political rallies, and donate time and money to causes -- including secular ones.

At the same time, Putnam and Campbell say their data
show that religious people are just "nicer": they carry packages for people, don't mind folks cutting ahead in line and give money to panhandlers"
(Pew Research Centre/Harvard: http://www.pewforum.org/Religion-News/Religious-people-make-better-citizens-study-says.aspx ).

Another study from the Barna Group shows the same results:
"One of the most significant differences between active-faith and no-faith Americans is the cultural disengagement and sense of independence exhibited by atheists and agnostics in many areas of life. They are less likely than active-faith Americans to be registered to vote (78% versus 89%), to volunteer to help a non-church-related non-profit (20% versus 30%), to describe themselves as "active in the community" (41% versus 68%), and to personally help or serve a homeless or poor person (41% versus 61%). They are also more likely to be registered to vote as an independent or with a non-mainstream
political party. One of the outcomes of this profile - and one of the least favorable points of comparison for atheist and agnostic adults - is the paltry amount of money they donate to charitable causes. The typical no-faith American donated just $200 in 2006, which is more than seven times less than the amount contributed by the prototypical active-faith adult ($1500).
Even when church-based giving is subtracted from the
equation, active-faith adults donated twice as many dollars last year as did atheists and agnostics. In fact, while just 7% of active-faith adults failed to contribute any personal funds in 2006, that compares with 22% among the no-faith adults."

This study became popular through the LA Times: 'The survey also found that "no-faith" Americans typically donated $200 to charities in 2006, far less than the amount given by "active-faith" adults, who typically contributed $1,500. "Even when church-based giving is subtracted from the equation, active-faith adults donated twice as many dollars last year as did atheists and agnostics," the study said'
(LA Times: http://articles.latimes.com/2007/jun/16/local/me-beliefs16 ).

A cross-national investigation on subjective well-being has
noted that, globally, religious people are usually happier than nonreligious people, though nonreligious people can also reach high levels of happiness (Ronald Inglehart (2010).

"Faith and Freedom: Traditional and Modern Ways to Happiness". In Ed Diener, John F. Helliwell, Daniel Kahneman. International Differences in Well-Being. Oxford University Press. pp. 378–385. ISBN 978-0-19-973273-9).

An analysis of over 200 social studies states that "high religiousness predicts a rather lower risk of depression and drug abuse and fewer suicide attempts, and more reports of satisfaction with life and a sense of well-being" (Smith,Timothy, Michael McCullough, and Justin Poll.
2003: "Religiousness and Depression: Evidence for a Main
Effect and Moderating Influence of Stressful Life Events."
Psychological Bulletin 129(4):614–36).

A study published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, found that 90 percent of doctors in the United States attend religious services at least occasionally as compared with 81% of the general U.S. population (University of Chicago: http://chronicle.uchicago.edu/050714/doctorsfaith.shtml ).

Cross-national studies, which have pooled data on religion and science from 1981-2001, have noted that countries with high religiosity also have stronger faith in science, while less religious countries have more skepticism of the impact of science and technology (Norris, Pippa; Ronald Inglehart (2011).
Sacred and Secular: Religion and Politics Worldwide (2nd ed.). Cambridge University Press. pp. 67–68. ISBN
978-1-107-64837-1).

This is not surprising, epsecially in light of C.S. Lewis' quote: “Men became scientific because they expected law in nature and they expected law in nature because
they believed in a lawgiver.”

A-theism literally means not theist. Very well, then: we know what it is not. But what is it?

Perhaps it’s like an onion: you peel and peel it, and discover that there is no core. Its basis is nothing at all.

People should notice that atheists never discuss how atheism would improve, strengthen, or otherwise change theirs or others’ lives for the better. Instead they spend their whole lives criticizing their Creator and religion.

Why can’t atheists be content in talking about their own worldview, in their own circles; rather than constantly bitching and complaining about what they are not/what they used to be? Do they have problems letting go of their past?

They keep telling us that once you are religious, your brain becomes dormant. But these great scientists proved otherwise.

The repeat it even louder - that freethinking is exclusively meant for atheists, but these ones have shown otherwise.

Do they think these people were crazy or something. Or are they saying this because of their hatred for God or unwarranted bigotry.

Also, according to 100 Years of Nobel Prizes, a review of Nobel prizes award between 1901 and 2000 reveals that (65.4%) of Nobel Prizes Laureates, have identified Christianity in its various forms as their religious preference. Overall, Christians have won a total of 78.3% of all the Nobel Prizes in Peace, 72.5% in Chemistry, 65.3% in Physics, 62% in Medicine, 54% in Economics and 49.5% of all Literature awards. We have also seen the successes of countries such as USA, UK and others, that have unofficially labeled themselves as Christian countries in the past.

Note: I’ve not included the successes of any other religion here, I’m simply emphasizing the products of Christianity.

I'm not sure of the contribution of atheism to the progress of humanity, but one thing i'm sure of is that atheists who found their way to power have tried to impose atheism on innocent people to no reasonable end.
I also know that atheists all over the world could be intolerant of christianity especially. --- even on nairaland.
I also know that terrorism from atheists has ridden-ed almost every atheist country that have ever existed.

So what exactly has atheism done for humanity and why do atheists terribly want people to join them in their irrational unbelief in our supreme Creator?

Kim Jong-Il is the de facto leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and responsible for the deaths of four million of his fellow Koreans. He is also at the heart of a bizarre personality cult; apocryphal stories such as how “at the time of his birth there were flashes of lightening and thunder, the iceberg in the pond on Mt. Paektu emitted a
mysterious sound as it broke, and bright double rainbows rose up” are abundant.

Those caught stealing food in the famine-struck nation, or attempting to cross the borders, are subject to public execution. Kim is continuing his lavish lifestyle and military obsession in spite of the crumbling economy. In North Korea he and his father are deified,
considered saviors of the whole universe. 250,000 dissidents are confined to “re-education camps”.

He has waged a war on South Korea that involved assassinating South Korean leaders and blowing up South Korean planes. He presents a great threat to the world in terms of nuclear warfare, having
persuaded the Soviet Union to award him a nuclear reactor in 1984.

He brutally killed seventeen men and boys, dismembering them, storing their parts and indulging in cannibalism and necrophilia. In 1991, he was caught by the police after one of his would-be victims escaped. Despite

Jim Jones drew people into atheism through the People’s Temple, largely based in California. He said that he “took the church and used the church to bring people to atheism”.
In 1978, 909 people at the restricted communist “sanctuary” he presided over in Jonestown, Guyana, committed “revolutionary suicide” at his command. This occurred after the arrival of an American delegation, which he claimed was conspiring against the People’s Temple. Men, women and children took a vial of cyanide and died within five minutes.

Only a few people escaped. This event was the largest single loss of American civilian life, in a non-natural disaster, up until 9/11.

This entry has the unique status of being on both the atheism and Christianity list. The reason is that the majority of people considered Jones to be the leader of a type
of Christian cult, but, as the quote above illustrates, it was really a ruse to attract people who would otherwise have steered well clear of him.

Atheists keep on singing to our ears how evil religion is, and how God should be separated from the state. But they fail to explain how atheism can help to develop a country. What we know from history till date is that atheists who have found their way to the top echelon in government have been terrible and brutal in their quest to see atheism dominate their respective countries. Their citizens paid dearly and heavily for the devilish ideologies of their Leaders.

There have been 28 countries in world history that can be confirmed to have been ruled by regimes with avowed atheists at the helm … These 28 historical regimes have been ruled by 89 atheists, of whom more than half have engaged in democidal acts of the sort committed by Stalin and Mao.

This article seeks to re-examine the irrationality of some atheist leaders. I have mentioned those which I can lay my hands on at the moment below.

RUSSIA

Vladimir Lenin
- Overthrew the Russian King (known as the "tsar"wink and murdered his entire family
- He instituted a campaign of mass killings and torture called the "Red Terror," which killed around 50,000 to 500,000 people.
- He executed 14,000 to 20,000 priests.
- He seized food from peasants all over the country, which worsened the Russian Famine of 1921 that ended up killing 5 million people. He explained that this was a good thing, saying, "Famine would also destroy faith not only in the tsar, but in God too."

Felix Dzerzhinsky
- He executed 250,000 to 300,000

Yemelyan Mikhailovich Yaroslavsky
- Leader of the "The Society of the Godless", which not only destroyed 6,000 historical buildings (mostly churches and monasteries) but aided the Soviet government in exterminating Christian clergy and other religious groups, reducing their number from about 50,000 to only 1,000 in Russia through executions and condemnation to Russia's famous prison camps known as the "Gulags" (where they would overwhelmiongly die from starvation and disease).

Joseph Stalin
-He murdered about 60 million people by deliberately causing widespread famines, ordering massive and arbitrary executions, and sending large populations to the unlivable Gulag prison camps.
- He imposed state atheism, shut down several parishes, levelled numerous historic churches, and slaughtered tens of thousands of nuns, monks, and priests.

Rosalia Zemlyachka
Soviet politician, and atheist who murdered 50,000 soldiers in brutal manners in Crimea, despite having promised them safe passage.

Leon Trotsky
- Vladimir Lenin's right hand man, executed 1,200 to 2,168 people

Vera Grebeniukova
Atheist leader who tortured and shot 700 prisoners during the early years of Communist Russia.

Vladimir Antonov-Ovseyenko
Atheist leader who was responsible for the brutal massacre 200,000 to 240,000 souls.

Leonid Brezhnev
Atheist leader of Russia whose genocide in Afghanistan killed 900,000 people.

Sergei Mironovich Kirov
Atheist leader who ordered "the merciless extermination" of prisoners "by any means possible." Around 4,000 prisoners had stones tied around their necks and were thrown in a river to drown.

MEXICO

Plutarco Elías Calles
- Atheist Leader who forcibly shut down multiple religious schools, monasteries, and convents, as well as confiscated large amounts of Church property.
- His policies ended up killing up to 4,000 priests, depriving 17 Mexican state of priests entirely. (In reaction to his vehement anti-religious policies, the people of Mexico fought back in the "Cristero War," which they eventually won)

UKRAINE

Gleb Bokii
He killed 1,300 people during the atheist government's efforts to secure power.

Genrikh Yagoda
He is held responsible for the deaths of over 7 million Ukrainians during the "Holodomor"

SPAIN

Manuel Azaña

Atheist Prime Minister of Spain, under whose leadership Spain's violently anti-religious Red Terror took place, which killed 38,000 to 72,344 people, among whom were members of the clergy.

ITALY

Benito Mussolini
- Atheist dictator and founder of the political ideology known as "Fascism" who caused the starvation of 40,000 people in Libya and massacred 30,000 Ethiopians.
-He was known to be an atheist, refering to himself as an "outright disbeliever" and that the Catholic Pope was a "malignant tumor" in Italy which must "be rooted out once and for all," declaring that there was no room in Rome for both the Pope and himself.

JAPAN

Hideki Tojo
Atheist Military General and Prime Minister of Japan who was reponsible for the deaths of 5 million people. He practiced Buddhism, which is arguably considered an atheistic religion.

ROMANIA

Petru Groza
Atheist leader of Romania, under whose leadership 60,000 people were executed and 100,000 others died under forced labor.

Gheorghe Gheorghiu-Dej
Atheist leader of Communist Romania who judicially executed 137 people and then killed some tens of thousands more in connection to country's attempt at agricultural collectivization.

Nicolae Ceaușescu
Atheist and Communist Leader of Romania who murdered over 60,000.

HUNGARY

You cannot be both." Joseph Goebbels affirmed that Hitler was "completely anti-Christian" and said the best way for them to deter the churches from fighting the Nazi government was to "claim" to be Christian while gradually "strangle any attempt" of religion from interfering with the state. Hitler said that he used the term "God" to refer to "the dominion of natural laws throughout the universe". However, he was against any religious conception of God, saying that priests have exploited people's feeling, and that "In the long run, National Socialism [a.k.a.
