chikk: True...
True...
Well said...
Also....
1. Our fathers were proud enough to head their families, diligent and strong enough to provide for them. The place of a wife then was in the home. It was pretty much her duty to manage the home and whatever the husband provides to cater for the family; and if the woman is to support her husband by maybe assisting in the farm or selling the produce in the market, she never forgot her place at home and the husband NEVER insisted on her assisting him. However, these days, men are lazy. Before a man even chooses a wife, he's made up his mind that the burden of providing for his family wont be on him alone. The wife MUST work and contribute, yet he considers and shares not in the wifely duties that the woman bears. Which mean the wife's major job is doubled, the husband's is reduced, yet he wants to be called the HEAD.
2. Men were allowed multiple wives in the past because the traditions and their orientation allowed it. Today, we don't abide so much by such traditions, the orientations have changed too, YET, men have refused to drop the ideology. They somehow still cling to the fact that women are properties and as such, are replaceable anytime. This makes them believe its their right to cheat and have shameless affairs. even the law supports them.
3. Women in turn are sometimes stupid, confused and vain. They drag equality without actually knowing what it entails. They have forgotten their places as wives and mothers to both their husbands and kids. Careers and material things now come first before the home. If a man places his job before every other thing, its mostly because he has a family to provide for. But most women these days pursue their careers for their selfish and personal interest and development. Always in competition with someone just to prove some point of equality or whatever feminist word there is.
4. Women of old had integrity, respect, virtues, dignity and pride. These days, we are slaying..
5. Both men and women these days get into marriage unprepared and for the wrong reasons.
6. Both men and women are lazy and cowards. A husband want a wife that would work and assist him in providing for his home, yet they feel threatened by a self-made, independent lady. Their fears eventually wins them over and they end up settling for "liabilities". When realization sets in, frustration becomes their name.
7. There are more cowards among married men these days than there are among primary school bullies, thus the rate of domestic violence. Also, more lazy azz women who come to nairaland and scream "feminist" yet go home and take bullsh1t from their husbands because they are too lazy and scared to be independent. More reason i agree with LordKO...
8. The sanctity of marriage has been greatly desecrated by a whole lot of things as stated by the posters above me.
9. Modernization, civilization, Technology, even education has contributed to this menace. A woman gets educated, therefore cooking is no longer her thing. is for the house help. She challenges her husband because shes well read, makes more money or is more exposed, but you hardly see them challenging a stup1d boss at work.
I could go on and on and on but let me just shut up here before this damned post becomes personal.
#thisThingCalledMarriage...
I think this is one the best comment I've seen so far... Buh I don't see the connection between a woman getting educated and refusing to cook |

sanpipita: Most olden days marriages would have collapsed today I will tell why some old people stayed in their marriages not because they enjoyed it but was to avoid societal stigma divorcees face, previous generations saw divorce as a taboo which made people stick to their marriages even when its no longer Worth it, but today things have change people put their happiness above everything else which old marriages didn't really do. But from what my grandfather said, he said people enjoyed their marriages back then, Husbands and wives lived happily... Women were submissive to their husbands |

MissRaine69: 1.Divorce was such a huge taboo 2.Couples got to know each other properly not these indomie courtships. 3. Being a divorced woman carried so much stigma 4. People want to be married but don't want to be in a relationship 5. It's for and better mindsets that prevails the part about better or worse does not exist for some 6. There are benefits for an easier divorce processes in the instance of abusive relationships , marital discord, unfaithfulness etc but most don't want to try anymore. It's easier to walk away But divorce is still a huge taboo in Christendom in our present day |

Romance › Why Did Marriages In The Olden Days Last Longer Than Present Marriages by wintersnow(op): 8:08pm On Aug 07, 2017 |
So I've been pondering over this issue for a while, cause the increase cases of divorce these days is just to much to comprehend, last week when I traveled to the village, I asked my granddad the same question... He said when he was much younger, one early in the morning he heard a knock on his door, and when went to checked he saw two women outside his door, before he knew what was happening, one of the ladies handed the other woman to him, and said to him "from today this is your wife" and that's how he married my Grandma, and he said from that day, they never had a quarrel till she died! I was kinda shocked tho, cause these days we don't let our parents choose for us anymore, we make the choices ourselves and yet the rate of divorce cases keeps increasing on a daily basis! |
