Ozonna: Got this from beegeagle.

Corruption is abominable but it is not the explanation for everything under the sun. It does not explain
– Why tanks and medium artillery could not repulse and attack by light infantry in Gwoza
– Why the commander of the troops at Gwoza would not have scouting positions on the heights to have seen the Boko Haram long before they got into the town
– why the retreating troops could not spare a few minutes to toss 1 grenade each into the abandoned tanks and APCs, or spike the guns
– Why all the air assets we have not been armed and were not sent into the air to bomb the advancing BH as they came

Soooo many questions, none of which is directly connected with the corruption of politicians (or even Generals for that matter).
My brother corruption explains everything. Corruption kills motivation. why tanks and artillary weapons could not repulse an attack by light infantry is because the nigerian soldiers are not motivated enough by their field commanders to be prepared to die for them. The commander of the troops are not interested in the welbeing and welfare of soldiers but of their own selfish interest, either by selling out to Boko haram for monetary gains or by supplying inferior weaponry and kits at exhorbitant prices. Worse still the soldiers are not paid all their dues at the front. Corruption has so pervaded the military that it is a miracle to get soldiers who are ready to face a bullet.

It is so bad that new recruits into the military has not been paid their recruitment allowance up to two years after graduating. The Generals steal all the money meant for junior officers and expect these same officers to the ready to die for them.

Boko Haram are ready to die for Shakau because they are motivated by him, religiously, morally and most probably financially. He is not seen as a corrupt leader stealing their collective purse.

homesteady: you are obviously the ignorant one here who doesn't know what SME is! SME just require small capital!
and pure water plant is not a small enterprise! I hope you know even selling home made liquid soap is an SME? Making bags is an SME! SME are businesses that are not 'rocket science'!
If you are ignorant of something, you seek to enlighten yourself, but instead you remain stubborn in your ignorance and talk rubbish. You have no idea of what Small Scale Industry means. The scale of an industry is related to the capital needed for its set up. A business with a set up capital of less than $100,000 (one hundred Thousand Dollars) is referred to as a small scale Enterprise. So pure water business is obviously a small scale business.
homesteady: So learning extra skill that might help you on the long run is exploitation?
This thread is not about learning extra skill and the president did not acknoweledge the students for learning a SKILL, they were recognized for starting an SME of producing tissue paper.

No body asked where the students got the capital to start the business of producing tissue paper.

Do you know about the projekt garden in a sack!

That is what nigeria needs that the goverment show to the people what they can do when they have no job because not all is about traiding!
i have always been against sending children to make money, that should be job of parents and guardians. Children should be children. They should be learning, playing and socializing. They have lots of time to make money when they become adults, especially if they had been adequately trained.

homesteady: it seems you don't even understand the concept of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)!
it you read my post well, you'll see where I said even polish and soap is accepted in this category, so far it is used for business!
For secondary students to be involved in SME's is even an added bonus to them! While Jobless university graduates are staying at home doing nothing, this children can be making tissue paper and making money with it!
BTW haven't you even seen graduates making bags, soaps and co? this is Micro, Small, and Medium
Enterprises (MSMEs)
What are you talking about? If you are ignorant of the way business operates in Nigeria, you should shut up. Do you have an idea of what it takes to operate any business in Nigeria? For ordinary pure water production with very basic equipments, you would require a couple of millions in naira, not to talk about a tissue paper manufacturing business. For equipments alone you would require millions, and we are not talking about land and furniture yet, we are not talking of a diesel generator yet and we have not even mention the cost of marketing and distribution.

Children should be learning the basics of science and how things work and preparing for their exams, they should not be concerned about micro, small or medium scale business. Anything else is child exploitation. The parents might as well buy a coal pot as ask the students to roast corn by the roadside in the name of micro business.
PoliticsRe: President Jonathan Receives Tissue Papers Made By Students Of GSS, Abuja (PIX) by wirinet(m): 11:59am On Aug 20, 2014
This is mediocrity of the highest order. A whole president celebrating the making of tissue paper? or is there something they are not telling us? Maybe the tissue is self cleaning and so reusable.

To make ordinary Tissue paper is no rocket science and requires little effort. All you need is enough capital to buy made in china equipments and use imported paper pulp or waste paper that can be turned to pulp as raw materials. Don't forget, they would need a diesel generator to drive all the machines.

So what is so special about making tissue paper.

This only shows that the students are from wealthy parents who can throw away a few millions for the pet project of their children.

Why are you guys spewing hatred against other sections of the country? How did you know that the alleged bomber was sent by a hausa/fulani man? are you an investigative officer or present when he was being sent. The man is said to be foriegner, he could have been sent by foriegn organizations or even governments bent on distabilizing Nigeria. Why not wait for investigations to be concluded and the man prosecuted before apportioning blame. In a sane society, such an arrest should be a breakthrough in defeating the terrorists, but in Nigeria all we hear are arrests of terrorists and never the outcome of investigations, or even any successful prosecution.

The hatred you guys are spreading would come back to hunt you some day.

bushdoc9919: smiley

OK....Right now...we have no scientific data that proves Nano Silver works against ebola virus....or any virus...while Zmapp has a lot of evidence.

All we have are bogus claims.

I am not averse to using silver....SO LONG AS THERE IS EVIDENCE IT WORKS!

grin

The term blue blood originated from the fact that because the nobility were rich enough to stay indoors and have others do the hard work in the sun for them....their skin was pale and their veins...with blue deoxgenated blood...could be seen on their body....hence the term blue blood.

As Wiki puts it sagely...

Silver poisoning is a serious matter....yes...a lot of people used silver a lot back then....and died from it!
We are on the same page here. I have never advocated the use of nano silver or colloidal silver as a drug without scientific backing. What i want is for scientists to look at the claims and either debonk it outright or confirm it. These claims are centuries old and i keep wondering why there had been no thorough scientific research on the fabled antibacterial/antivirus properties of silver.

About the cause of blue blood. I cannot argue with your claims, afterall, we are all still learning. I also read that excessive use of pure silver spoons, plates and cups by royalty contibutes to blue discolouration of their skins, turning their skins pale blue. it is claimed that argyria had been noticed in families of the nouveau riche in the past. It might be a combination of the 2 factors.

About Silver poisoning, i honestly do not know any other harmful effect of silver outside argyria. Since silver cannot be eliminated from the body by the liver, it accumulates under the skin and causes discolouration. As i said earlier, i was a member of a yahoo group that produced produced colloidal silver for close to two years. Athough i only consumed the ones i made a few times, we had members that claimed to have consumed colloidal silver everyday for up to 5 years and they did not report any adverse effect. The critical points are to use pure water and to make the silver ions small enough, so it does not accumulate in the body. There were machines being sold that produced good colloidal silver solutions from de-ionized water. I do not know if they are still available. It should be noted that almost all commercially sold silver products are "harmful" as they tend to cause argyria.

bushdoc9919: Colloidal silver has not yet been tested against viral disease. It was tested against HIV viruses in vitro....but so far, it has not yet undergone animal or human tests. It does have some anti-bacterial activity...and has been used in treating wounds topically (not orally).

Zmapp....on the other hand performed well in animal testing (and trying it on humans BTW...broke protocol....normally they would have still done more tests over the next few years).

The article Nanosilver particles in medical applications: synthesis, performance, and toxicity gives a full overview of all the uses of nano silver....and it can be found online via google.

See also the story of Paul Karason...who self medicated with colloidal silver for a year...with tragic results.(video below)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y98b_QitrnI
Please stop misleading people. what tragic results did SELF MEDICATED colloidal silver produce? Can argyria be considered tragic? As i said earlier, the worse consequence of improperly prepared colloidal silver is skin discolouration.

European royalty had been having argyria for ages because of the use of pure silver cutlery, it did not kill them, in fact it was a status symbol - BLUE BLOOD
HealthRe: First Nigerian Ebola Survivor Not Treated With "Nano Silver" - Health Minister by wirinet(m): 11:25am On Aug 17, 2014
Ignorance is a disease that pervades all segments of the nigerian society. I can excuse nigerian youths and politicians for being clueless about medical matters, but when a medical doctor and a health minister talk like a village man, then we are really doomed.

Nano silver is nothing more than colloidal silver, made by electrolizing pure silver with low voltage pulsed dc current using distilled water. I used to experiment it about 10 years ago when the fad was on. In fact i joined a very active yahoo group and had promising potentials. It helped a lot when i had flu. The problems i had then was getting pure de-ionized distilled water and getting the right type of dc current. If you dont use the right type of water and current, the silver particles would be too big leading to accumulation of silver on the skin and thus discolouration of the skin.

I think properly prepared colloidal should be tried against ebola. Ionic or colloidal silver is said to have the ability to kill viruses.

To some extent i agree with Dokubo. Yes Ebola is a scam. i am not saying the disease does not exist or that it is not so contagious. What i am saying is that all the stories about catching it from eating bush meat or that there is a vaccine for its treatment are all lies. First what is the difference between bush meat and domestic meat? if you can get ebola from eating bush meat, what prevents you from being infected from domestic meat? Then the idea of a vacine for cure of a viral disease is bogus, one you are infected with a virus, only your natural immunity can fight it, no drug can kill viruses in the body. that is how all virus are. Even the common cold (influenza virus) had been with us from the garden of eden and no vaccine or medicine can cure it. You are advised to rest and take lots of vitamins and let the body's natural immunity fight off the virus.

People that survive ebola, HIV, etc does so because of their own natural immunity and not because of any medication.

And what proof do you have that eating bat meat or any other bush meat brought ebola to Nigeria? Is Patrick Sawyer a bush meat? Every person that contracted ebola from Nigeria contracted it directly or indirectly from Patrick Sawyer. I do not understand how bush meat comes into question. Nigerians have been eating bush meat from time immemorial, and no one had ever caught ebola from bush meat and i doubt anyone would ever catch ebola from eating bush meat.

lomomike: So just because anybody wearing masks attacks people, these masked fellows are now regarded Jonathan's masked Snipers? Any man can wear a mask (a face mask is even cheap in the market) so as to conceal his identity especially when he/she wishes to carry out an activity and he doesn't want recognition. Did they see GEJ training masked snipers? Where are the proofs, who are the masked men, did they refer to themselves as GEJ's boys? Did GEJ say he trained snipers? The last time I checked, even thieves wears masks, even children in amusement parks or people going for carnival could use some form of facial covering which is still referred to as a mask. A sniper isn't seen (snipe means to shoot from a hiding place) because he/she shoots from a concealed place. So their allegation is silly. Those saying GEJ is the mastermind of the attack should bring evidence linking GEJ to the masked fellows or they should be sued for making false allegation and character assassination of the person of GEJ. (I have no affiliation whatsoever with GEJ, I am not in support of any attacks, and I am not a PDP worshipper so quote me with that in mind).
If the masked fellows were not President Jonathan's snipers or thugs, why did he not order the questioning of Omisore to know their identities and mission. If the masked men/snipers were not approved by the president, why was Lai Mohammed and co be arrested by them and taken to DSS office in Osun?

You definition of sniper is very myopic, a sniper is anyone trained to shoot targets at great distances, where alone or in groups or whether hidden or in hiding. A standard army have have snipers to take out difficult targets from distance.

Gej should be worried that its Governorhip candidiates was moving around with Boko Haram looking masked men.

Is it that he is the worse Igbo governor in Nigeria? Because nobody attacks Theodore Orji or Sullivan Chime the way they attack Okorocha. I can not remember any other Governor in Nigeria's history that has been criticized as much, not Uzoh Kalu, not Mbadinuju and not even Ohakim. From what we outsiders read here on Nairaland, Okorocha seems to have been the worse governor ever to have governed eastern Nigeria.

PoliticsRe: Those In Support Of Homosexuality Please Support Me In My Own Struggle. by wirinet(m): 9:42pm On Aug 01, 2014
tit: The primary argument against inbreeding is Inbreeding depression: the reduced biological fitness in a given population as a result of inbreeding - ie., breeding of related individuals. Population biological fitness refers to its ability to survive and reproduce itself. Inbreeding depression is often the result of a population bottleneck. In general, the higher the genetic variation or gene pool within a breeding population, the less likely it is to suffer from inbreeding depression.

So genetic faults could dominate the population (genetic advantages could also dominate if there are no negative recessive genes).
Thank you for attempting to educate you fellow countrymen and women on basic biology. As you know education in Nigeria has been reduced to certificate acquisition, so supposedly educated people reason by emotion and religious dogmas.

Inbreeding actually degrades the species that engage in it, even animals are aware of this and try to avoid breeding within close family members. Pet and animal breeders go to great lengths to avoid breading by related animals.

So while inbreeding is injurous to the off-springs and the larger society, homosexualism has no effect whatsoever, because no child can be concieved by homosexuals. So in effect, no other person is affected except the two consenting adults involved, and if done in the secrecy of their homes, no one needs to know.
PoliticsRe: Why Is Africa Less Technologically Advanced Than European Countries? by wirinet(m): 1:31pm On Jul 31, 2014
momoyama: Your priorities and values would be comical if they were not so tragic. The Caribbean is made up of mostly small societies. In my case, my country has a population of about 350,000. The largest Anglophone Caribbean country, Jamaica, has under 3 million. Obviously such small population centres cannot be expected to impact the world profoundly in terms of military, diplomatic or economic power, just the same as Iceland, Malta or a small city in the USA or Germany would not impact the world much. Because of SCALE.
But the measure of SUCCESS of our countries is in how well run they are in their ability to provide a high standard of living for their population in health, education, wealth per capita and access to things like broadband connectivity. Equally important is to ensure such a standard of living that the country becomes a DESTINATION rather than a SOURCE of migration and that corruption and mismanagement are kept at low levels. That is the measure of success of those running a country, not some childish obsession with impacting the world or being noticed. I fear it is the latter kind of thinking that led many African leaders in the independence era to engage in huge show projects as a measure of success, rather than focusing on delivering good governance and socio-economic benefits to their whole populations.
The thread may indeed have begun by talking about the relative technological underdevelopment of Africa compared to Europe (which is a complex matter), but it quickly descended into racist nonsense about black societies (specifically including the Caribbean) being 'backward' and failing in terms of education and development. That is simply untrue and needed to be responded to, which I did. Is any of this getting through?
I am at loss as to which of my priorities is tragic. First, i never stated what my priorities are much less my values, we are only taking a critical look at the seeming backwardness of black african societies and maybe we, as a race can nake corrections and catch up with with rest of the world.

I beg to disagree with you on the issue of scale. Yes, a large population is very advantageous in terms of military, economic or diplomatic power, but size is not everything. Throughout history, you have relatively small populations outdoing their bigger and more populous neighbours. Japan was more technologically advanced that the much bigger China and was able to defeat China in World War II. Isreal has far smaller population and landmass that its Arab neighbours but is stronger Militarily, technologically and diplomatically. What does that tell you? It means the critical factor is in the value of the population and not neccessarily the size of the population. Japan achieved 100% literacy level before the turn of the 20th century. Isreal was founded by highly educated immigrants from Europe.
A 3million strong highly educated Jamaican population would be much stronger Militarily, technologically and diplomatically than a 200million mainly illiterate Nigerian population.

My regret is that black Africa is not taking the EDUCATION of its citizens seriously. We are more content with such things as entertainment, sports and tourism, which brings glory in the short term, but does nothing to advance the society. They only act as leisure and past time entertainment for the rich nations.

I am not obsessed with with being noticed, what i am obsessed is with developing our own solutions to our own problems and stop relying on other to do our thinking for us. Today, the black man is too dependent on West and the Asian for everything.
PoliticsRe: Why Is Africa Less Technologically Advanced Than European Countries? by wirinet(m): 8:07am On Jul 31, 2014
momoyama: You are obviously a very misinformed person, who has never been to the Caribbean. The Caribbean has many advanced black countries. I am from the Bahahas, which has a human development index rating of .794 (High Human Development) per capita income that is solidly placed among first world ($31,000 at PPP), lower poverty rate (9%) than the the USA (16%) or UK (24%). In my country, we do not require visas to travel to any single first world country (USA, UK, Schengen, Japan, Switzerland, Canada, Scandinavia etc.) and nobody would ever dream of migrating from here to work elsewhere.

The same is true (to a slightly lesser degree) of most English speaking Caribbean countries (Barbados, Trinidad, Antigua etc.). In fact, in the Caribbean, ONLY Haiti is classified a low income, low human development country in the region. Even Jamaica, the poorest and least advanced of the English speaking Caribbean, is classified as middle income.

Please do not extend your racial inferiority complex across the atlantic to the Caribbean.
You will be surprised Nigerians ( the educated elites and the educated middle class) are one of the most enlightened people on the planet. They are known to travel to every corner of the globe. So when we talk we know what we are saying.
Caribbeans have advanced countries? That is the joke of the century. Please tell me what classifies any caribbean nation as an advanced country? Is is technology, military, economics? What has any carribean country contributed to the world in terms of science, technology, arts, architecture, literature, anything? Oh, you people are advanced in beauty peagents.

The caribbeans are just the play ground for the US. You whole economy depends of tourism as a result of good climate and exotic beaches. It is your tiny population that gives you people the illusion of high human development index.

Please read the heading of this thread again and answer the question"Why Is Africa Less Technologically Advanced Than European Countries" including other nations with predominantly diasporian African populations.

Although i have always had a soft spot for Buhari due to the vigour, purposefulness and integrity of his short rule (save his gross human rights violations), I do not see him perfoming well as president in present day Nigeria. I am against his hobnobbing with the same kinds of politicians he overthrew and jailed for corruption and he is not as energetic as he was 30 years ago. I also would have preferred him in the background acting as a stateman. Nigeria seriously is in need of apolitical statesmen.

I doubt he or any single person can resolve the challenge of Boko Haram. Boko Haram has grown beyond the local millitia created by politicians for election rigging purposes. It has grown into a strong international terrorist group with foreign funds and Backing. Dealing with it now would require international help from the world powers and cooperation from other west african countries.
