Jonathan added Ebele Azikiwe to his name. Now, name any president or head of state that has had an Igbo sounding name since Nnamdi Azikiwe. Even Aguyi Ironsi does not sound as Igbo as Ebele Azikiwe. For that alone Goodluck Jonathan has done more than all former presidents of Nigeria. |
Tomoarika:My error, the bridge was between two phases and not between a live wire and the ground. But we agreed that the snake was electrocuted when it bridged two wires. The argument is that from the distance between the wires, the snake cannot be 4 feet long, considering the wires are high tension wires. |
100Cents:What kind of Engineer are you? How can an ordinary carpenter take a look at the above picture and conclude the snake is 4 feet long, not to talk of an engineer. Do you have an idea of what 4 feet is? 4 feet is approximately 1.2meters. I, being of average height is 6feet tall. Are you telling us that the spaces between the high tension wires is 1 foot? as the snake is at least four times longer than the spaces between the wires. The snake must have been electrocuted by bridging a live wire with the ground wire ( which is the last wire closest to the ground) From cursory observations, the snake is nothing less than 10 feet long. |
erico2k2:How will he feel things written about him ain't true if the book had not been published for him to read? and if the book was already published why did the court court grant an injunction against publishing the book?. Since he has the right to file a civil suit against OBJ for defamation of character after reading the already published book, why not go ahead and actually file the civil suit? why beat around the bush by filling a restraining order after the book had already been published and then filling a contempt charge? If the content of OBJ's my watch is libelous against Mr Kashamu, he will be a very rich man soon. |
kettykin:Which kind of court injunction? If the judge grants an injunction, it means the plaintiff and the judge had read the book, and if the judge had read the book, it means the book had already been published. |
manutdadex:I not vex, i just need answers. And you have digressed from my question. I asked how long does it take to buy arms from another country? you only gave an estimate on how long it takes to get a generator from aliexpress. How come the government is still planning to buy arms from Russia after 5 years of insurgency and when will the plan turn to actuality? |
Nigerian court Judgements are the most absurd in the world. How can a judge give an injunction against publishing and launching of a book? How did the plaintiff (Kashamu Buruji) obtain a copy of the book to read if it had not been published already? did he steal the manuscript from Obasanjo or the publishers. How did the Judge know that publishing a book might be injurious to the plaintiff if he had not read the book? An unpublished book or article cannot be used as evidence of Libel. In sane societies, plaintiff would sue the publisher and author of a book for libel after it is made public, if it contains false and damaging accusations and not before it it published. Next people would be obtaining an injunction against posting your views on facebook or Nairaland. |
manutdadex:Please enlighten us on buying of arms. How much time does it take? The insurgency had been going on for five years, Boko Haram had been at war with Nigeria for about 2 years. They have invaded and annexed Nigerian territories for over a year, trillions of Naira had been budgeted for defense yearly for the past 3 years, the National assembly had approved the loan of N1 billion to purchase arms over two months ago, and the government is still telling us that that they are planning to buy arms from Russia. So please tell us how much time is needed to actually buy the arms and have it delivered to Nigeria? |
adisa009:Thank you my brother, false pride is a disease bigger than AIDS or Ebola. False pride makes the person lose sight of benefits and catastrophic consequences of their actions. So who gains from the cancellation of the training? What does the US stand to lose and what do we stand to gain. Is the government saying we do not need to train our soldiers to fight modern warfar of insurgiency and guerilla warfare? We are behaving like beggers that is refusing to collect N10 from a giver because the note is too small or too dirty. If we are now going to be enemies with the US, who are we going to make friends with? Russia, China, Israel, Iran, North Korea? If you thing the US hate us, you think the Russians, the chinese and the Israelis love us more? A sensible govenment attempts to make friends and not accumulate enemies. What stops the Jonathan government from engaging the Americans diplomatically to see how we can resolve thorny issues. The US has concerns about Nigeria concerning high level corruption and human rights abuses. They openly accuse Nigerian Generals including Ihejirika of stealing the money meant to equip the Nigerian military. They also alleged that the little high grade weapons we have usually end up in the possesion of Boko Haram. A simple thing to do is to allay the fears of the Americans instead of behaving like a baby who's mother refuses to put brea.st in its mouth on time. |
EvilBrain1:I am impressed with this your explanation. It should be labels "Evolution for dummies ", anyone who does not understand evolution after this your brilliant explanation does not deserve a brain. |
kopite:What are you saying? is it not the same social media that gave you the opportunity to spew the above rubbish. In the real world respect is earned and not conferered. Gowon had not acted and behaved as an elder states man. An elderstateman should be guiding and advising those in power to avoid mistakes he made as a trainee head of state, not wait for the government to make the same mistake and blame others instead of ourselves. Why did he tell subsequent government this "America refusing to sell us arms " story before now, so the government would not rush to the US when we are in dire straits. At least he attends the weekly (or is it monthly) Federal Executive meetings. After more than 45 years after the civil war, he is now coming out with this revelation. What has the Government been doing since the civil war? Where have they been getting their weapons, since the US had always refused to sell us weapons. Why did the government have to wait until we are in the middle of a war before they realize that we need to buy weapons? What happens to local production of weapons? are we going to rely on foriegn nations to arm us before we can prosecute a war? Gowon claiming elderstatesman should have inquired why the US refuses to sell us weapons and solicit the help of fellow US elder statesmen for assistance. He should not futher inflame the relationship between Nigeria and the US. We cannot afford to have the US and her allies as enemy. |
It is beyond belief that a president of a democratic nation can utter such rubbish. His speech writers need to be fired. s like something that was written by someone with an IQ of 50. President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday said Nigeria would overcome her current challenges, just as he regretted the emergence of Aminu Tambuwal as Speaker of the House of Representatives at the expense of Mulikat Akande-Adeola, the Peoples Democratic Party preferred candidate for the position. How do you relate the current challenges Nigeria is facing with his regret of Aminu Tambuwal as Speaker of the house of representatives. I just dont get the connection. He, however, hinged the inability of Akande-Adeola to emerge Speaker to the decision by some people from the region, who “thought otherwise”. He said “one of the problems I face is the National Assembly. Our party has arrangement for positions.Tribal card. The inability of Akande Adeola to emerge speaker was not due to the decision of some people from one region, but due to the decision of the whole house by representatives from all regions of Nigeria. Except he is saying that only one region can produce the speaker. He said “one of the problems I face is the National Assembly. Our party has arrangement for positions.Big goof. The speaker of the house of representatives is not a party position. It is a legislative position to be determined only by the legislators themselves. And how is the National Assembly your problem. Which bill have you sent to the National Assembly that the national assembly had refused to debate. Is it the national assembly that is responsible for your failures in Security, anti corruption, economy, etc.? When a president and vice president emerge from different regions, other offices – the Senate President, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the party chairman and Speaker of House of Representatives must come from different geo-political zones. Is that written in the constitution? So what happens if one party controls the executive and another party controls one or both legislative arm? Last time, it was difficult for me because I insisted that South West must get Speaker but some of us within South West didn’t want that because of personal ambition and I am still suffering for that till today. What effrontery. How can the executive openly come out and say he insisted on who would become speaker? Even though it is the aberration practiced in Nigeria's brand of democracy, you dont come out and say it for the whole world to hear. How do you hope to relate with the speaker when you were antagonistic of him from the beginning? So, we know where the wealth is, the infrastructures there must be provided,” Jonathan said. Assuring that the report of Constitutional Conference would be implemented, Jonathan said the situation at the moment was not conducive for its implementation.Another goof. How can you implement the report of a constitutional conference without it passing through the National Assembly. The last time i read the Nigerian Constitution, the power to make and amend laws lies solely with the National Assembly, the responsibility of the president is to accent or reject the laws presented by the National assembly. I honestly do not understand how the Executive can implement the report of an executive created Constitutional Assembly. |
anonimi:Sorry, it was a typo. I meant to write "a president is not king". I have corrected it. |
great1:on what Basis are you analyzing the Jonathan Administration? Is it Power, Infrastructure? Education? Security? Foreign Policy? anti corruption? Please tell me which area President Jonathan has done better that any previous government. I do not want to hear " he is planning to", "work is in progress", "he is attempting to" and such nonsense. Just point out physical verifiable achievements. |
MrPresident1:Please quit that archaic mentality, A president is not the symbol of National pride. You are not obliged to like or be proud of the president. Obama is not the symbol of American pride. He is insulted everyday on TV, Newspaper and social media. He had been called the worse president in American history. A month does not go bye without Donald Trump insulting Obama. The only difference between Obama and Jonathan is that Obama and his presidency have better things to do that to engage in petty insulting contest with opponents. Even iron Lady thatcher was pelted with rotten eggs and tomatoes when people hate her policies. A president is not king. |
MrPresident1:Bulls. Yes the presidency is an institution greater than any individual - even the president himself. But the president is not the symbol of our national pride, that would be the National Flag. The president is supposed to be our employee, that is why he begs us to hire(elect) him every four years. If we are not happy with his service, we have rights not only to insult him, we should be able to fire him also. The Nigerian president is not King, he is answerable to you and me. |
INEC is a joke, they must be awarded the worse electoral body in the whole world if not the entire galaxy. You have four years to prepare for elections and two months to go, they are struggling to register voters. If they could not carry out a proper voters registration within the last four years, what difference will a few day's extension make? |
Keyamo understand's PDP tactics. If the APC senators had not scaled the fence to be physically present inside the house of assembly chambers, and behaved "gentlemanly" as PDP.TAN had suggested, they would have heard on NTA a few hours later that 50 PDP house of assembly members had impeached Right Honourable Tambuwal and the deputy speaker had taken over. They would then sing their usual mantra of go to court if anyone is not satisfied. The House of Assembly members were indeed brave to defy the plans of PDP and scale the fence to enforce their rights. |
And what was the vision of Goodluck Jonathan before he was elected president in 2011 except "Good luck to me, Good luck to you, Good luck to everybody ", and " i had no shoes" What is the vision of President Goodluck now except "transformation agenda". And what is the vision of President Jonathan for the forth coming elections except "I must be allowed to complete my full two terms or else ....." At least a corrupt free Nigeria is a laudable vision. |
This National Assembly vs Nigerian Police crisis has highlighted the problems of our so called democracy. The Legislature make law, the Judiciary interpret the Law and the executive execute the law. It is only the executive that has the powers to enforce the law. Now what happens if the legislature makes the law, the Judiciary interpret the law but the executive refuses to enforce the law. What happens if the IG refuses to honour the invitation of the house of Assembly, will the house write the IG to arrest himself? In the larger society, lawyers will tell you that enforcement of the law is a big problem in Nigeria. A plaintive can get a judgement against defendant, but if the judgement is against the high and mighty, the police would simply refuse the enforce the judgement. I have seen such scenario before. Most court judgments in Nigeria has to be approved by the executive before it can be enforced. For example in the recent judgement of the supreme court concerning who should be the authentic acting governor in Taraba State, the Attorney General had to instruct the state chief judge to swear in the new acting governor before the judgement can be effected. The ultimate example would be the impeachment of the president, who would enforce the impeachment of a Nigerian president if the National Assembly actually impeach the president? I think this is an area Nigerian Bar Association should look into, how to make court judgments enforceable. |
Eziachi:Dont mind these mindless TANoids, they have never attempted to engage in legitimate business before, they all earn their living through government patronage. Most businesses avoid putting up signage because of excessive signage fees by the state governments, that is apart from stringent application and approval conditions. A small signage would cost you nothing less that N20,000 per year to put up, apart from fees paid professionals for the signage designs needed for approvals and the cost of the actual construction of the signage itself. The main problem with Nigeria is that most politicians are professional politicians who have no idea how business is run. |
jmaine:Pity, Nairaland has now become a platform where semi illiterate paid teens advertise their ignorance. And you think Microsoft, Apple, Google, et al, has just one data centre, all in one location in one country with a big sign "data centre" on the building? |
tommysparks:Well, i am not a lawyer and i am not conversant with the Company and Allied Act, but there are millions of businesses in Nigeria without any sign post in front of their offices or branches. Please educate us further by quoting the relevant sections of the Company and Allied Act that mandate COMPANIES to put up sign post in all their branches nationwide. Also i am getting a surprising new education from you, i never knew political parties in Nigeria are required to register with the CAC, please provide proof. I had thought they were only required to be registered with INEC. |
Mogidi:It is a pity that i have to start defending APC, because i detest they way they have ruled Lagos, these past 15 years, but that is a subject for another day. APC never told you that the said office was their campaign office. They said it is a DATA OFFICE, and data offices are not supposed to attract the general public or ordinary party members. I have a friend that works at a data center on V/I, they handle all Nigerian Custom's data base. Believe me, you would not know what goes on in there except you know a person working there. I only got to know when i was asked to quote for a power back up system for their servers. The place always look deserted as they do not deal with the general public. |
Firefire:This is the favourite quote of PDP, they commit all sorts of Illegality with the excuse of "Go to court" know fully well that they have basterdized the judiciary. It would take years to get reprieve in the courts if you get it at all. By the time the case gets to the supreme court, the judgement would have become irrelevant. Elections is coming up in less than 3 months time, and the PDP is intimidating opponents and the opposition party with police, DSS, SSS, and hooded men, and they are screaming go to court. |
tommysparks:So what is the offense here? Is it an offense no to put up a signpost in front of an office. I for one refuse to put up a sign post in front of my office, have i broken Nigerian law? I have been to a big packaging office at Oba Akran in Ikeja, it took me hours to locate the office because there was no sign whatsoever in front of the big factory. To me putting up a sign post or not is at the discretion of the owners of the office. Even as big as bet9ja is, I had a difficult time locating their head office at Ojuelgba, because at that time there was no sign whatsoever in front of their office. Now there is only a small banner at the Gate. |
Na wa o. So this is the SSS or is it DSS, the police and the military that is supposed to provide security for a free and fair election come february 2015. In addition to the incompetence and inconsistencies of INEC, i do not think any body or any party should bother competing with Jonathan and the PDP. The police raided the National assembly to prevent the speaker and opposition from gaining access because the speaker had defected and is illegally retaining his membership of the house (according to the police), but the same police provided security for 7 member defected PDP lawmakers in Ekiti to illegally impeach the real speaker. Now the Police base on an excuse of a frivolous allegation raided and destroyed equipment in ACN party office. Why destroy evidence when that is what is needed to prosecute people who are said to have committed a crime? where the evidence for the allegations before even deciding to raid the office. Where is the evidence that the computer destroyed were used to hack INEC's office? where is the evidence that INEC's office was even hacked? did INEC file a report that their office was hacked? Hacking computers leave traces, even if they are using proxies, from what IP address was the hacking taking place and from which servers? The SSS has to provide any sort of evidence that a crime had actually taken place and commence prosecution of the offenders. The excuse of 24 people working a night is ridiculous, in Nigeria a lot of people work at night when transferring huge data over the internet because that is the time you get the best speed, during the day the connection speed is usually slow because of traffic. It is not a crime to work at night in Nigeria. We are in for a rough time ahead. |
Cannonleo:Lie from the pit of hell or is it saTAN; Tambuwal withdrew the case challenging the withdrawal of his security details but continued with the suit asking the IGP not to interfer with his position as speaker. Why do you guys tell obvious lies? |
realborn:You TAN Brigade are something else, you twist and turn logic on its head better than a break dancer. Which is expressing a greater level of irresponsibility, a national assembly prevented from carrying out their constitutional duty by the executive ( to debate whether the State of Emergency should be extended) or the executive that is using illegal means to obstruct the legislature? Who locked the Gates and why? And Go home to where? if Tambuwal and co had gone home, the next you will be hearing from PDP/TAN is that Tambuwal has been impeached by 50 PDP house of reps members and so Tambuwal should go to court if he is aggrieved. That is exactly what PDP is doing in Ekiti, where opposition lawmakers were prevented from entering the legislative chambers but access was granted to 7 PDP to carry out the purported impeachment of the substantive speaker. I agree with you that most politicians are completely useless with no positive intents for the populace that elected them, but that is not the subject of debate right now. The question is why is your anger fixated on only the opposition party and their members while you idolize the other useless party or set of politicians. People are supporting Tambuwal here on Nairaland because the actions of the executive is a threat to our democracy and corporate existence of Nigeria. There are far pressing issues confronting the country than who is defecting where, and the president is misplacing his priorities. |
