@wiznet Dont mean to be rude o where did you learn that free trade zone is only meant for importation? Let me give you some lecture, a free trade zone is meant to boost trading activities in areas where it is cited. It is mainly meant for massive industrialization of an area. It is not meant for importation. With free trade zone govt provide some incentives like tax cancelation, export tariff cancellation and good incentives in areas where it is siting a free trade zone. No country will establish a free trade zone to promote importation it doesnt just make sense to promote the products of other countries.
Can you please further my economic education by explaining to me. Since we produce and export very few things and already import most of what we use where they are we going to get the goods to trade in a free trade zone?.

Countries establish free trade zones to trade goods from other parts and not because they are industrialized.  In facts the industrialized nations have no free trade zones, it is countries like UAE That manufactures nothing that has the most successful free trade zones.

@wiznet you are right and wrong airport and free trade zone can work if properly done they way it is being done but you know this politicians you cant trust them with your salary talk less of 60 billion naira. Yes power and your other quotes are reasonable. You also get 20000 dollars for that, just go to the nearest central bank and ask of your own share of the 18 billion dollars spent on the power sector, it is still with the central bank, at least whe are not seeing any 24 hours electricity, so where is the money? Its av the c.b.n so go and get your own share.
I might be an economics illiterate, so please explain to how a free trade zone can work in Nigeria, because that is now the signature tune of every coastal state right now. How can you get Chinese goods to be cheaper that those in Dubai, so just because import duties are going to be waived, you think the goods are going to be cheaper than buying it in China. itself. Furthermore, which countries are these free trade zones going to serve? west Africa?. Most other parts of Africa are close to the middle east and so can get their goods there easily. As i had said earlier, the Arabs are positioned for trade, and trade routes had established there for thousands of years. We cannot just copy them without understanding the background of trading societies.

The 18 billion dollars is not in Central Bank, it is in European, American and Middle eastern banks. CBN itself says Nigeria is going broke.

Ogun state governor has said that without taking bond, the government can not fulfill most of its programs. The house are adamant that they will not sell the future of the state by approving what they describe as a ridiculous enslavement. They said 60 billion naira is too much. The governor insists that he needs the bond to provide projects like airport, free trade zone, power projects and many more. What is your view, the question i want to ask the house of assembly is this, has it been that it was in the first term of the governor that he requested for the bond, wont you have given him considering the rapport between you at that time and they way your are getting contracts from the state govt, and this one for the governor, what have you been doing with the previous state funds, if you have done well with it then try to prevail on the house to gather public opinion before they close the door on the bond. The public should be the one to determine the issue, not the governor nor the assembly, as all of you will have travelled out of the country if the money is not use judiciously and the people are paying the price, and also if the house refusal leads to a stagnation in the development of the state due to lack of funds for the government to provide basic amenities. Unfortunately nigeria does not have good public opinion as majority of the people are impoverished and could not make genuine decisions once they are giving peanuts. What a pity on the state.
I can understand the power project, but the airport and free trade zone are white elephant project? Have any free trade zone worked in Nigeria? for you to have a successful free trade zone you need some comparative advantage. But since we do not produce and we are not located near a producing country how can you have advantage over Dubia that is close to China, Japan, Malaysia, etc. The middle east historically had always been a trade zone for thousands of years, so i do not think we can compete in that regard.

Please tell me how the government plans to pay back this money? Because the monthly egunje from Abuja would continue to dwindle while the recurrent expenditure will continue to sky rocket.

Projects that can develop a people are projects that can develop the individual into making him more productive.

1. Education
2. Agriculture.
3. Medicare.
4. Good transportation
5. Good housing.

Non of the above, both are too old to withstand the rigours of a world cup game for 90 mins.

Maybe if an experienced OLD MAN Roger milla was not taken to Italia 90 maybe Camry would not have been placed on the map of world soccer.
You cannot compare Roger Milla to Kanu on so many fronts, first Milla was an out and out striker, so his job was mainly to finish the work done by the midfielders. He almost never crosses the half way mark. Kanu on the other hand is more of a midfielder, he is expected to run the whole length of the midfield, which requires much more stamina.

Then, Milla was able to score 4 goals at Italia 90, but when he was brought back again in USA 94, the Cameroonian team was playing short one, there were beaten mercilessly.
SportsRe: Should Kanu Make The 23 Man List? by wirinet(m): 3:18pm On May 30, 2010
His experience is needed where? on the bench or on the field?. And if it is on the field, how many mins will he be able to provide that experience in a game of 90 + mins?.

We are talking about the World cup here, not nations cup. You will be playing against a very fit Argentinian team and a Korean team that can run non stop for over 120mins.

Really? And for how many centuries were corrupt Lords and Barons specially protected by the Crown in England?

UP TILL THIS DAY, the United States stands morally complicit in reprehensible blood-for-oil international heists and the persons responsible boldly strut the corridors of power.

What you are seeking is a delusion: IT HAS NEVER BEEN ACHEIVED ANYWHERE IN HISTORY BEFORE.

And you comically imagine that Nigeria would be the first to acheive it. Wise up.
Common deepsight, what has the above got to do with our selective and compromised justice system.
We have said it again and again that we do not have to retrace all the negative steps others took before we could have a better society. Besides, at the time these societies were structured to grant privileges to the ruling class. There was no deceit of a fight on corruption.  Remember the form of government was Monarchical.

Even if i ascent to your argument that all other societies had passed through this stage and so we MUST pass through it also. Is it not time to carry out solutions that lead to the dismountling  of such systems? should we the masses not start to organize ourselves for a major revolution as was done in france, Russia, Germany, the US, South Africa China and almost in England, etc?. Should we all become cheer leaders once one member of the ruling class falls out with the rest, and is hunted (temporarily) into submission?

I do not understand the your comparism of the US fight for Oil and unbridled stealing of our resources going on in Nigeria. Most countries go to war to protect protect the economic interest of their people, that was why Britain invaded half the world - to get at their resources. So how does that compared to looting and ruining your country?

We should learn to start putting our collective interest over personal interest.

I suspect that as a lawyer, the status quo is favourable to you. After all Lawyers are smiling to the bank under the presently warped political and social justice system system.  (i hope you are not still handling election cases from 2007   wink)

Do you people want to kill kanu for his family? you guys no like kanu at all. Do you people not know that bone injury after the age of 40 will never heal?. Let kanu go to South Africa as part of the technical crew and not a player. We cannot afford to take a player who can play only 20mins of active football.

Zidane retired from international football at the height of his football career for god sake. Even ronaldinho that is still playing very well in a bigger team than kanu is not going to the world cup.

Guys, you know this is the problem with Nigeria. We as a people find it extremely difficult to be true to ourselves. We have lost the sense of right and wrong. This in my humble opinion is the real reason why nigeria as a country is going nowhere.

What are the facts of the matter

1: Ibroi was governor of Delta state for 8yrs
2: Ibori's salary as about £25000 per annum
3: Ibori's father was an ambulance driver (came from a very poor home), not a problem, but cant have inherited great wealth
4: Ibori got an extra 960BN from oil revenue
5: did absolutely nothing in the state.
6: Bought properties worth millions of pounds
7: Is currently charged with money laundering to the tune of £43m (far more than he ever earned).

And yet , there are people one here defending him
You have just described the life cycle of 99% of  all Nigerian public office holders ( that is except for item number 7. ).
Most of them come from wretched background, was lucky to get some level of education, and found their way in to office. And in less that 2 years of being in office, becomes a billionaire owning properties left right and centre. And nobody (including you) raises any eye brow.

Nobody is defending Ibori, it is you that is defending the other 99% of corrupt nigerians (minus Ibori) by your condemning only Ibori and by tolerating the others.

bidemi12:
aside the text messages (which i agree is annoying), did MTN force anybody to participate in their lotteries/games. better looking into a mirror to question your greed and desperation. Why dont you claim that the USA visa lottery is 419 too. millions apply from Nigeria but less that five thousand people actually do get the visa's. How about that?
MTN literally cannot be said to be putting a gun to our heads and telling us to send them N100, but there are lots of ethical, moral and even legal issues about the way they have been carrying out their promo sorry lottery nowadays. In the US and EU, Microsoft was taken to court and fined for unethical business practices because they were using their dominance to stifle competition. Martha Stewart was sent to jail just for having inside info on stocks and trading based on it. Here she would receive accolades for being smart.

You see most Nigerians are in a state of desperation ( that is why our churches and mosques are always filled to the brim) and taking undue advantage of that without providing any service is morally wrong.

How can you compare US lottery visa to the MTN scam? First the US embassy did to ask anybody to pay one cent to apply unlike MTN in their dubious promo that tells you to sent N100 to apply. Then the US Government aptly named the program for what it is - A LOTTERY, and not a promo. Finally, they specified right from the beginning that they are going to reward N5,000 Nigerians and N55,0000 people world wide, please tell me how many people MTN promised to give 20,000/2,0000 or 10,000 and how many have they given, also let them tell us how many people they have collected N100 from.

That is why we will always remain backwards, we invite others to ra.pe us while remaining docile and even blaming ourselves instead of the people exploiting us. I am sure some people will fight to defend MTN's right to exploit us.

Viaro, own own dear Aristotle, i commend you for raising to to challenge and presenting proof of atheist activism.

But you must agree that out of all the tens of atheist and thousands of atheist posts, only very few attempt to convert others. In fact majority discourages evangelism, it is my believe that a person believes according to his needs, understanding and exposure, and as the saying goes, you will have to seek ask before you can find.

Even though you will agree that Huxleys approach is an exception to the rule, he cannot be said to be impulsive and imposing in his approach. He advocates for the subtle approach. Not the aggressive and sometime violent approach employed by Christians and Muslims.

viaro:
All the above ^^ are found both among theists and atheists.
Of course the above applies to everybody to some extent, but even within the theists, the Christians and Muslims take it to the extreme. It is said to be part of every believer's duty to convince everybody he comes in contacts with.  That is why it sometimes get violent when a Muslim attempts to carry out such injunction on a Christian trying to do same.

Could there also be a fear factor playing in the background here as well? The fear that one might be backing the wrong horse? The insecurity of not being sure of one's mental position or ideological beliefs?
It is human to seek security in numbers, imposition of one's beliefs is a main vice we have been living with. It happens in the religious, political, intellectual domains - and even mundane areas like sports (arsenal vs Chelsea). People and societies go to war over imposition of beliefs, remember the cold war was mainly about a belief of capitalism vs communism.

I disagree with you. Selective justice is a subset of justice, hence it is justice.

I am not in support of selective justice, but one thing am sure of, is that whether selective or not, we still get the bad people out of the system.

Even in life, there are many things you want to do, and want to buy, but you cannot get all of them at the same time, so you have to prioritize( is this not selectivity).

The government cannot chase all the criminals at the same time, we can go after the kingpins one at a time, then with time we would get to the grassroots.

Why are we complaining now, is it because its IBORI?
As far as i am concerned that man is a criminal to the core, if he only stole that would have been better, but i don't think any of you here wants to claim that this man didn't contribute to the arming of youths in the region, who have now turned into kidnappers.
I am not a fan of Ibori, in fact i want him tried (the proper way), but i think you are very bias. If there is evidence of a crime by Ibori, take it to the courts. It is only the court that can declare someone guilty - not EFCC and not even you.

Now i do not know what evidece you have against Ibori arming youth in the region, but if that is true, then it is outside the jurisdiction of EFCC and falls wioth the jurisdiction of SSS, DMI and the police. The government should openly state that Ibori is wanted for treason and prosecute same as such.

Ibori is a creation of the selective justice system, when we raised raised concern that this man was a convicted criminal and the convicting Judge came out openly to identify him, OBJ got the Supreme court to acquit him, because of political gains. He was also used by OBJ to impose yaradua us. Yaradua virtually handed him the judiciary, as he was used to obtain a questionable election victory judgment from the supreme court (imagine upholding an election without serialized ballot papers). When all these were happening what did you people do?

As someone has pointed out, all these season of Ibori will go on and on. ( i think we are in season 6 now). They just want Ibori out of Nigeria for the up coming elections. The only problem Ibori has is with the metropolitan police.

Most high level crimes are not detected when they happen (that doesn't mean they are ignored), and many times, in politics, even in developed countries, political opponents dig up dirt on themselves, and if you have significant dirt, it will be thrown at you and used against you.

And as i said, there aint nothing wrong with that, coz eventually peoople will realize that your dirt can and will be used against you in the court of law and most smart ones will clean up!!!

Politicians in Naija have a lot of dirt, so what do you expect them to throw all the time?

I hope you will understand that.
Are you serious? Most high level crimes are not detected when they happen? I am sure you are saying that just for the sake of argument. Most politicians on the right side of the law power, steal in broad day light, and with photo opportunity for all to see. Iwu withdrew all INECs money after he was sacked, are you telling me that is hiiden from you. What about Yaradua's cabal that was withdrawing money and awarding contracts during the yaradua's saga like it was going out of fashion soon. Did anenih steal the over  N300 billion naira meant for road at night?

There is no way you can steal the kind of money politicians still in Nigeria and not leave a trace.
Now they want to build a run way forN 64 billion or is it N57 billion, when others are building whole modern airports for one third the amount. Is that hidden also.

I know say e dey pain you. Oya, we go put your name for back door, make you hold small thing tongue
But how is this thing a Ponzi scheme? The winners are published, there's no magomago. We even get the likes of Phillips Consulting, KPMG, and Alex Forbes to do the random selection for us. Una just dey yarn opata for here jare.

The only issue is with the lottery commission. Now, telcos are being asked to get a lottery license, or partner with licensed lottery operators.
As per the random text messages, take time out to read the T&C on the operator's website. When we sell you a SIM, we are legally allowed to send you any message, so long as we're not sending on behalf of a third party, and we are communicating about our services. So next time, just ignore the messages. I know say tkb wan go Old Trafford, he fit don go recharge 100k for im dormant glo line grin
So you are one of the people scamming Nigerians in the guise of promos. Before i explain what a ponzi scheme is, i will also need to explain what a promotion is.

Generally, promotion is communicating with the public in an attempt to influence them toward buying your products and/or services.
Now how can you term what you people are doing as promotions.

Now here is the definition of ponzi scheme;

A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation that pays returns to separate investors from their own money or money paid by subsequent investors, rather than from any actual profit earned. The Ponzi scheme usually entices new investors by offering returns other investments cannot guarantee, in the form of short-term returns that are either abnormally high or unusually consistent. The perpetuation of the returns that a Ponzi scheme advertises and pays requires an ever-increasing flow of money from investors to keep the scheme going.
So you see your company is collecting money from people (without creating any value)to reward a few and then keeping the chunk.

If it were in another country you guys would be in jail by now. Can your company try this nonsense in any other country?

As per the text messages, first i sign no contract nor was i made aware of any contract that would allow you to disturb my peace - even a 5 am in the morning. Even if such a clause was attached to owning a sim card, it does not give you the right to harass costumers they way you have been doing.

Whether ibori was previously on the list does not matter, the FG with its power see Ibori as a threat worthy of the no. 1 position, and Ibori has cases to be answered, so they use his unanswered case against him to remove the threat.

Don't choose to be one sided, this happens all over the world, even in the states.

A lot of people don't really care why Ibori is to be put in jail. People are happy because we have 1 less thieving politician to worry about. The end achieves the means.

And politician who is smart will try to clean up his books, because it is likely to be used against him in future, for whatever purpose. And that to me is progress.
Honestly i do not know where else in the world that a saint and a criminal can exchange roles overnight.

How are you sure that Ibori was not smart enough to clean up his books both financially and judicially. Because the EFCC has not made public the so called new allegations against Ibori.

Also please do you have the exact cases Ibori has to answer. Because the EFCC says they have new evidence against Ibori, but they are yet to present it.

While i very much agree with this view, this does not apply only to religious folks alone, does it? Atheists also want their views to be taken onboard by others as well, don't they? It is a human trait all across the board, is it not?
Well, it applies mainly to the Christian and Muslim religions, they are the ones that are ready to go to extremes to get others to believe what they believe. The Jews, Hindus and Buddhists are contented with their beliefs and post stringent conditions on becoming a believer. I have not known any Atheist who tries to impose his beliefs on others, most of the time a lot of them react to the aggressive approach of christians and muslims at trying to convert them.

Justice is justice. . .

The implementation may be intentionally or non-intentionally partial.

So many factors come into play. Law enforcement agents in Naija seem to function like the journalists. How can you get a conviction with mere allegations, so if you don't have concrete evidence that can bring about conviction especially for powerful politicians. You may get them arrested for a day, out on bail the next and acquitted in a couple more months.

People have said so much about political witch-hunting. But the truth is that there will always be a priority list for the implementation of justice. An example is the FBI most wanted list. At certain times, some criminals are more important than other criminals. So, there is really nothing wrong in putting all your resources out against an enemy(Ibori) who is perceived to be able to cause national instability in the near future.

Also, if you don't have concrete evidence against a powerful criminal, and he is currently docile, the best thing is to wait and watch until you can pin something concrete on them. And this is what we Nigerians have coined as "witch-hunting", but this is done all over the world and may be the only way of putting criminals out of the general society. Nobody really cares for what crime a criminal/politician is put in prison, as long as he can be put away for sufficient time, so that he won't be able to do more of his biz.

Bottom line is this. When you chase a group of bush-rats, they scatter in all directions, and you chase after the one you are most likely to catch or even sometimes, you ignore all the little rats and go for the fattest in the group.

You can never catch them all, but anyone you catch will still be good enuf meat.
Sorry to say but your argument are very lame.

Up till a few months ago, the most wanted "criminal" in Nigeria was Ribadu, the IG was looking for him like Osama Bin Laden. Meanwhile Ibori was the bride of the government, in fact he was consulted in major political appointments by the yaradua administration. It was only in the last one month that Ibori and Ribadu exchanged roles. With Ibori being declared a wanted "criminal" Ibori had never been number 1 on the EFCC list.

MTN is ready to send you text morning day and mid night disturbing you to send the N100 - almost by force. Yerima's case is just popular because of his status, do you know how many of these types of marriages go on everyday in Nigeria, particularly in Sharia states.

There is very little that NGOs can do when they operate in such regions and the more-aware, better educated and reasonably well-positioned citizens (especially women) in such regions are not as vocal undecided I guess there is so much progress you can bring about when your religion places an embargo on your ability to reason objectively in a humane way.

When i have discussions with some of my Muslim friends and try to broach the topic, they either say, that this phenomenon has a purpose.
1: Stop the girls from going into prostitution
2: Give them a better life and education they would not have had an opportunity to get if they were not married off early.
3: It is supported by the Quran

On the surface it seems like a valid argument but when you take a few steps forward, yo realize that it is just a face-saving statement. angry
Your excuse for supporting child marriage abuse is at best religious solidarity and at worse irrational. As pointed out above, how do you connect marrying a girl at 13 with pros-titution? are you saying that all unmarried girls from 9 - 18 are pro-stitutes? So marrying a girl at 13 and divorcing them at 19 would discourage prost-titution.

How will marrying a girl at thirteen or even 9 give her a better life and education? How will she get an education when she becomes a intimacy gadget and start having babies?. How will she have a better life when she is imposed with a responsibility of raising a child when she herself is a child.

I don't know if islam supports having sex with 9 yrs olds, but if it does, then it is wrong and should be changed. It goes against all natural, moral, and even medical laws.

I had always had a bout of depression even time MTN sends me one of those annoying (scam) messages. I had wondered where all the relevant agencies are. I believe MTN should be sued for fraud. The say there are carrying out a world cup promotions, but they are not promoting anything, all they want you to do is to send them N100 to enter a lottery draw for a chance to win N10,000000, and some tickets to watch the world cup live. So do you qualify that as a promotion. A promo should involve rewards for using your product. Instead of giving free airtime or improving their services, they just want to collect money for nothing.

Worse still they make various claims like, you are applying for a job with not qualifications required. It is a ponzi scheme and nothing more.

NCC, NBC and the the National Assembly should wake up to their responsibilities and stop all these nonsense.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation for all the contributors of this thread, it contained a lot of good arguments on both side and was devoid of insults, tribalism and accusations of being a ribadu's apologist or Ibori's supporter.

My main purpose of the thread is to get people to condemn and fight against our present skewed justice system instead of calling for all criminals to go free. It has been proven that if we have a common agenda and are ready to fight for it, our situation would start improving, but most times people tolerate and even support selective justice, based on ethnic, religious, personal and other considerations. Meanwhile our country is gradually falling into a state of anarchy. At current level of corruption, which selective justice is encouraging ( because as i said earlier, those one the right side of powers that be are more brazen and arrogant in their corruption), we would be bankrupt in a few years time. The $60 billion OBJ left in the excess crude account had been withered to less than $4 billion. We would soon start another round of borrowing spree, and be trapped in a debt trap once again.

What i would like to see is consistency in our views. I want those that are castigating Ibori for running away based on alleged persecution to also condemn Ribadu for running away on the same allegation of persecution. He is a fugitive of the law just as Ribadu was and Akingbola is still presently is. If Ribadu does not have faith in the judicial process ( a law enforcement officer for that matter), why should Ibori?. Perhaps, if the government changes tomorrow, Ibori status might change again from that of a fugitive to a power broker.

Selective justice is a sure road to anarchy. It was not even this bad under the military, and that is why if a dictator minded individual like IBB should take over power today, with the present selective justice structure, he would be too powerful to control.
PoliticsRe: Selective Justice Is As Bad As No Justice by wirinet(op): 9:02pm On May 26, 2010
I am still surprised that people have not been able to quantify the damage selective justice has done to us as a nation. Even with all the accolades Ribadu got, in real terms there was no reduction in corruption, even at the height of Ribadu's reign. What happened was that while an infinitesimal number of political enemies were whipped in line, the vast majority were much more brazen in their corruption.

Although i recognized that societies evolve from primitive selective justice societies, we do not always have to reinvent the wheel. Those societies made those mistakes because they do not have enough information that we posses today, that is why i hate the argument that we need 200years to learn to do democracy right because the USA "perfected" same after more than 200 yrs. If we are really serious, we could achieve "perfection"  in a very short time - even at first try.

'Why cant you arrest IBB, Odili, Obj & co if you can arrest Ibori?' instead of 'why did you arrest Ibori when others are still free?'- Emphasis should be on those who are still free not on those already arrested.
Because  IBB, Odili, Obj & co would not go against the current power lord in Aso Rock, they would not unnecessarily provoke a ruling government . Ibori on the other hand took miscalculated risk by putting all his oranges in Yara dua's basket. If Yaradua had won, i am sure he would have reaped massive political and financial gains (like he did during Yaradua's election)
PoliticsRe: Two-party Or Multi-party System, Which Way Forward Nigeria? by wirinet(m): 11:03am On May 26, 2010
You cannot decree parties, just as you cannot decree the number of companies or associations in a country. We keep chasing after shadows while avoiding the substance. Parties would drastically reduce to less than 5 if the following steps are taken;

1. Stop government funds to parties. Is is not abnormal for government to fund privately created parties?
2. Organized free and fair election. No body would waste his money forming parties if he cannot have a reasonable chance of winning an election.

Deep Sight:
@ Wirinet -

I am dissapointed.

Am i to deduce that until the UTOPIAN, PERFECT AND IDEAL day dawns in Nigerian History, when EVERY CRIMINAL IS PROSECUTED AT THE SAME TIME, AND NOT EVEN ONE FOR PERSONAL REASONS - - - - - THEN WE SHOULD FOR NOW DROP ALL CHARGES AGAINST IBORI AND CO? ? ? ?
My dear fellow religious forum brother, i am surprised you are disappointed, since i assume we know each other fairly well.

Now are you saying the people that carved the statue of lady justice are foolish?

Before i go let me state one my my philosophies of life, it goes;

NOTHING IS PERFECT, BUT WE SHOULD ALWAYS STRIVE FOR PERFECTION.

Now, i know you are very philosophical in nature, so you would understand that most societies has passed through the level of social evolution we are going through and selective justice brought other societies to its knees. Even most religions laid very strong emphasis on true justice as against selective justice (of course our own variation of these religions preach selective justice).

Real justice should be institutional and not personal, that is the only way justice can work. You pass through the process if and when your are caught. For example Iwu was accused of withdrawing about N2.8 billion in one week without any reason, the institutions involved should immediately commence investigation and not wait to be prompted by higher powers. If it was found to be false, they should tell us so and if it has some merit, they should proceed naturally to the next level - the courts. Same should apply for the siemens and hailburton cases and also the Okigbo Report. They should not wait until somebody falls out with the government before they go and dust up the cases. That is does not mean prosecuting every body at the same time, and is not selective justice.

Remember the case of Tam David West? Babangida sent him to prison for accepting a gold wrist-watch and termed that bribery. Even Marwa was sent to EFCC detention for a very ridiculous charge for something he was alleged to have done in South Africa as a defense attache. Now what happened to Marwa after he reconciled with OBJ? where is he today.

You see it is this selective justice syndrome which you support that is responsible for the state we are in today, that no political office holder or civil servant can go against the wimps and caprices of their bosses. How do you think the National Assembly could attempt to impeach a sitting president the weapon of selective justice is hanging on every member's neck?

Selective justice was institutionalized by OBJ as a weapon against impeachment threats by the national assembly and his enemies. Remember he boasted just after being sworn in the second time, that he would never be threatened with impeachment again. and he fulfilled that promise.

So i still stand by my assertion, that SELECTIVE JUSTICE DESTROYS THE SOCIETY.

I hope you understand my views and reduce your disappointment a bit.

The reason why kinsmen, friends and relatives of very corrupt people still support them is because of the skewed sense of justice as exhibited by some people here in Nairaland, who support Ribadu's sense of justice.

I say that selective justice is no justice at all.

What selective justice breeds is sycophancy, and someone asks why all Nigerian politicians are sycophants and are tagged " any government in power". I condemn the persecution of Ibori, Ogbulafor (for an alleged crime he committed way back in 2003), the persecution of Ribadu, El-Rufai and even Bode George, while the likes of Odili, Sani Yerima, Alao Akala, Tony Anneni, are walking free enjoying their loot.

Nigerian political class is like a huge gang of armed robbers, it is only a member that is on the wrong side of the current powers that be that is labeled and persecuted. In that kind of arrangement corruption can only get worse not better.

The main aim of trying and punishing of a criminal is not to subject the criminal to suffering and humiliation but to reform him and make him see that his criminal activities is abhorred by the society. but mainly it is to serve as a detriment to others that are contemplating such corrupt activities. Once that detrimental factor is missing, corruption would continue to spread as it is doing today.

Fight against selective justice, it is the worse kind of corruption there is.
PoliticsRe: Don't Honour Invitations, Muslim Group Tells Yarima by wirinet(m): 11:49am On May 25, 2010
Can my Muslem brothers explain why a man would want to marry 5 wives (after divorcing one), with the newest wife being a minor.
Is it love on the part of the man or on the part of the girl?
is is commercial transaction on the part of the parents of the girl?
Is it a performance of religious obligations?
Is it a love for having sex with minors and Islam presents an excuse?

Why divorce the other teenage wife? did she and her child have any rights under islamic law. What happens to her afterwords as she is still very young and sexually active?

Please i need answers from my Muslim brothers and sisters.
PoliticsRe: Ribadu Reinstated As Aig! by wirinet(m): 11:38am On May 25, 2010
What about the other police officers that were demoted also and agreed to take their demotion in good faith, are they going to be reinstated to their former ranks also? or they are to be to be punished for being too obedient.

what about the charges of insubordination against the the Nigerian police, are the police telling us that the charges against Ribadu were lies? if so the police owe Ribadu and the Nigerian masses a public apology for wasting our time and resources.

I hope Ribadu is not being prepared to be used for the 2011 elections, the way he was used for the 2007 elections, because the speed at which his case is being handled is incredible.
