Thanks you for pointing out the error, i accept that it was a genuine mistake on my part. It was from one of the sources i copied the picture from.

But that has still not dampened the speculations that some statues of Jesus bears similar features with the statues of Zeus.

You will agree with me that the statues of Jesus could not be an accurate representation of Jesus, since none of his statue or bust was known to have been made, unlike Caesar or other important roman personalities, so that leaves a question of where the statues came from.

Ribadu's supporters argument in support of selective justice with the claim of 'Who among those arrested is innocent?" is very lame and irrational. They have a very archaic and primitive sense of justice.

My brother, at one time in western civilization, everybody - including kings, the priests, the philosophers and ordinary people, believed and worshiped Zeus. So it goes beyond weak minds, it is more of the powerful force of popular beliefs. In such a case it is very difficult to be different.

Further more i believe western civilization still worship Zeus and the pantheon of Gods under different guises, like as i have pointed out transforming Zeus in to IEZEUS, and adding the character of Horus to the mix. Also there is the continued worship of ISIS in the form of MARY, the naming of our days and months after Greco-Roman Gods ensure that they would live forever. Worship of these Gods is being revived in the celebration of Valentine (celebration of the God Cupid), Easter, Christmas and others.

This is no evidence of JUJU, it is more of evidence of random mutation - the driving force of evolution. If the 4 legs puts it at an advantage within its peculiar environment, it will thrive and bear some offsprings with the same mutation. If it is detrimental to its survival, the chicken will die and thus fail to progress further.

Christianity on the other hand and the old Greco - Roman religions are very connected. For one thing, at one time both were under the authority and control of the Roman state, so it would not be out of place to suppose one influenced the other.

This post should be considered very important because it raises fundamental questions on the African variation of Christianity. Christianity in Africa has been reduced to the status of traditional African religions, its main motivation is to offer some kinds of supernatural protection, prosperity or some kind of supernatural power to its adherents. African Christianity that does not offer its adherents these things would die fast. It must promise reward for the undeserving, punishment for ones enemies, magic, and power to control anything, through mantras, night vigils and other spiritual rituals .

The problem is that none of these so called advantages can be statistically verified, in fact the opposite appears to be the case, the more religious a sect seem to be, the more you would find poverty and disease.

I was watching the film "Clash of the Titans" and i could not fail to notice the similarities in pronunciation between Jesus and Zeus. Also the plot of the story is very similar to the Christian story.

The Greek Gods were in their usual monarchical power struggle with Zeus ruling the Sky, Poseidon ruling the seas and Hades (his brother) banished to the fiery underworld as a punishment for rebellion against zeus . Zeus somehow slept with a woman (the wife of a king) and gave birth to Perseus, who became half God and Half man. Perseus was to reconcile man back to the Gods because men had rebelled against the Gods.

Anyway, Christians have not been able to tell us the real meaning of the name Jesus. It is obviously a Roman name, like Christ (Christos). Although Christos could be translated to mean the Hebrew world Messiah, i have found no direct translation for the meaning of Jesus. Christians most times translate Hebrew name Yeshua or Joshua, (meaning Jehovah is salvation) to Jesus. I do not see the connection between the Hebrew name Joshua with the Latin name Jesus, their pronunciation is completely different, and there is no parallel of Joshua in Latin, since they had no Jehovah.

On the other hand, the supreme God during the formative years of Christianity was Zeus. The worship of Zeus and the pantheon of Gods was in fact the official religion of Rome, and it was from this religion that Christianity was formulated. So it is likely that early Christianity was just a rebranding of the old religion.  It is said that Jesus (which was written as IESUS until 400yrs ago, since J was not originally part of the English alphabet) could be translated to mean "HAIL ZEUS"

Although i have high regards for the Pope and the Catholic Church as a whole, i think the Pope statement is unfortunate. I Know Pope John Paul II would never had made such an insensitive statement. My own view is that unbriddled capitalism is a recipe for disaster, it will create so much exploitation of the masses by very few people, hereby widening the gap between the rich and the poor, until the social upheaval causes a breakdown in the society. The US is fairly new in its capitalism experiment and so had not experienced the cycle of social upheavals so many ancient civilizations had passed through as a result of un controlled capitalism.

The most annoying thing about the Nigerian experience of capitalism is strictly stealing of collective resources. The various government officials and their cronies steal public funds, buy up government asserts at ridiculous prices and then charge the governed who were the original owners of the said resource exorbitantly. Then they brand it capitalism. The whole assets of Lagos state had been bought up by the previous administration, that i do not know if Lagos as a people have any assert left. I hope they do not also sell of Odua Investment assets in the name of privatization.

Most atheists start out as bible believing Christians that becomes uncomfortable with the Christian doctrines, some become atheist due to the hypocritical and intolerant nature of Christians they interact with.

I hear a lot of bull sh.it about richard Dawkins being the father of atheism, to be honest i heard of the name Dawkins the first time here on Nairaland, and up till today, i have not read any of his books or what he looks like. All the concepts of gods were all designed to help its designers explain unexplainable phenomena, the only differences is in the methods employed to get others to submit to their particular god and its representatives.

If you have read basic astronomy, you will know that galaxies are anything but perfect structures, some galaxies are deformed, some are partly formed, others are just plain unstructured. Besides the shape of galaxies are determined by the effect of mass, gravity, angular momentum of the initial gas cloud, etc.

Yes science is at odds with Religion. Science attempts to explain the workings of the observable universe without the introduction of extraneous forces like God, while according to religion, God is all the explanation for all phenomena in the observable and unobservable universe.

If you really want to be educated on the structures of Galaxies, the meaning of Biological life and the chemistry of life. you would need to invest in books of Astronomy, Biology and Molecular Biology and physics. It is not something one can start explaining in a few pages.

Finally, i am not interested in converting you to atheism. Everybody is a lone passenger on this planet, you come alone, learn to survive while interacting with a limited number of people, make your contribution and leave alone. So what you or any any other person believes is not essential to my survival and so not my business, except you use your beliefs as an excuse to persecute me, in which case i am obliged to fight back.

I would not even advise you to convert to Atheism, from my experience people do not convert to atheism like is done with other religions. You gradually come to the realization that Gods are not needed to make the universe go round, you gradually realize that yourself, your neighbour, your surroundings and your universe is the most important thing, and you try to live in harmony with them.

Since your religion give you joy and happiness and a purpose in life, you should grow in it. After all your happiness should be the most important thing in your life.

Why should the Judeo-Christian God not rest? After doing 9 to 5 everyday for 6 days. Do you want him to die of exhaustion. He needs to take a good full days sleep, so as to prepare for monday morning. Because the Job of guiding and guarding his creations from his arch rival is going to be even more tiring and frustrating. He needed the rest to plan ahead on how he is going get his most stubborn and troublesome creations to bow down completely and submit to him.

At one point he lost patience and gave up, and decided to go back to the drawing board to start again with this most stubborn of his creations.

I no be pyschic, it is just that in this my short life, i have seen and experienced enough to read situations. I have had two friends in a similar situation in the past. In fact one of them ( a former room mate at school)l was unable to recover from the heart break and had to be sent abroad by his parents, to rehabilitate.
After struggling to sponsor a girl though university, then sponsored her to England to wait for him while he finishes his degree program a year after. It was while in London that my room mate was told by his fiancee, that her pastor said their relationship was not ordained by God, and so a more ordained person was given to her.

In fact this scenario is fairly common in our society. That was why i suspected "pastorial advice" as being the real problem, the first time i read the post.

Please can someone re-read the bolded parts of the statement and tell me if it makes sense. Which members of the yaradua's family is she talking of? does it include the whole yaradua' clan or just the yaradua nuclear family of her and her daughters. Because i doubt she can act as a spokesman for the Yaradua clan. If it is her Nuclear family, then what concerns us with what she and her daughters feel?

The she is talking about two leaders, for the moment we only have one leader. Umuru Yaradua has not been able to lead himself for 5 months, except she the other leader she is talking about is herself.

It is a pity you did not read my personal advice to you. Believe me from the first time i read the post, i knew exactly what is going on, and it seems you and Sia Fuller don't even get it, even up till now!

In my advice to you, i pointed out that the problem most likely goes beyond your religious differences. If it was, Sia would not have been with you all these while, and Sia's family would not have accommodated you or at least tolerated you.

The problem was you rival - Yes Sia pastor/former lover. I am sure the former lover felt humiliated the way you snatched Sia from him and so waited patiently to strike back. Believe me, a man - Christian, atheist or Buddhist, would not take the snatching of his girl without a fight - even if the fight leads to fatality.

Sia was the pastors personal property, that was why he could get to the level of beating her to a state of stupor.  The beating definitely did not start with that particular beating. The beatings must have been an essential part of their love life, because if it was not, Sia would have left the guy long before your interference. 

So in effect, the pastor boyfriend was exercising  physical, emotional and spiritual control on Sia. That is a very difficult combination to break. If you have known you should have insisted that Sia change her church or at least her branch, because as long as Sia continued to interact with her Pastor ex-boyfriend, he will always exercise some level of influence on her.

And I am certain, that was what has brought your relationship to where it is today. The pastor would know a way to get through to the parents, who are Christians. He would be able to conjure many biblical verses to support his ambitions. Also he can even get the whole church to admonish you for being equally yoked with the devil himself. I can imagine the kind of counseling Sia would be getting from his pastor.  So i can understand Sia confusion and desperation. It is a pity she allowed herself to fall into the pastor's trap. If the pastor had been promising Sia heaven, i hope he does not end up giving her hell.

God help you if you do not have a pre-paid meter, Nepa would gladly use estimated bills for you, which most times is outrageous. When i was in surulere, i was paying N2,500 every month when we do not get more than three hours of electricity per day, sometime when the transformer was down, we would not get electricity for the whole month, but the bills kept on coming like the seasons.

Nepa is deliberately refusing to deploy pre paid meter her in Ikorodu, because that would spoil market for them.

If you noticed, there is a marked difference between the physiological, psychological and emotional make up of a man and a woman. What might be very important to a woman might be trivial to a man and vice - versa. For example while i do not care much for ceremonies and celebrations and have a hard time remembering important dates. To my wife, birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations are very important. I had to beg for one week for forgetting our last wedding anniversary due to some stress i was passing through then.

Now spewing your love live on the internet might not mean much to you, it means a whole lot to most guys. The guy is probably getting innovative on how he is going to propose to his girlfriend, most probably me had not told any soul yet, and Bam, the story is all over the internet. That alone can make any man an emotional wreck.

What we are talking here is Marriage, our sister should have first had a real heart to heart talk privately with her man, before informing any other person of her concerns. And if they cannot reach a common ground, they should have parted ways quietly. But if they were able to reach a common ground, or have very little points of conflict, then they should have involved both families. That is how things are supposed to be done.

Besides, what kinds of advise does she expect from anonymous internet users, most of whom have an axe to grind with other on religious grounds.

If my wife should attempt such a stunt, i will call a family meeting and print out all 11 pages of the thread and give it to her parents ( i will probably hide it from my parents, because they would definitely over react). First and foremost, i do not have to acknowledge anything just because you have acknowledged it. It should not bother you whatever i choose to acknowledge.

I acknowledge that it is highly possible that complexity of life on the planet do not necessarily require higher power, or that higher power is a person like me with one head, two eyes, a but to sit on a golden throne, and in possession of human emotions and frailties like love, hate, jealousy, anger, pleasure, etc.

I acknowledge that the universe is a very impersonal place, it is not partial to a particular wish or need.

Also i think it is more silly to  Acknowledge that piece of molded clay was made by another potter, when we do not have the faintest idea what a potter is, have have never seen, heard or interacted directly with the potter and besides we do not even know who molded the potter himself.

You are being economical with the truth here (notice, i did not say that you are lying). Christians definitely do not believe in the existence of Santa Claus, Jupiter, Mars, Thor, Odin, Venus, etc, if you doubt ask a professing Christian.

This your non - existence argument is baffling. So you are telling me that all that is needed for you to believe anything is a proof of non existence of that think. Meaning you accept the existence of a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow because you cannot prove its non existence, or you accept the existence of the  loch ness monster roaming around the little Scottish river, because with all the years of search by so many, with highly sophisticated equipment, nobody has been able to prove its existence or non existence.
