PoliticsRe: Lagos Water Corporation Seeks Bill To Stop Borehole Sinking! by wirinet(m): 8:40pm On Jul 30, 2010
I have another proposal for the Lagos state Govt. If the care so much about the health of Lagosians, they should seek a bill to ban the use of Generators. Generators are a major health hazard in Lagos, as so many has died from the poisonous fumes they emit, not to talk of the numerous fires it has caused. Then there is the environmental pollution from millions of generators.

babapupa:
Though improving, the water situation is still not the best, but this is really about public safety. Many people are silently dying for drinking untreated water from boreholes. Untreated water from boreholes contains many harmful pathogens, lead and other dangerous chemicals and metals and many boreholes  are dug in polluted areas close to septic tanks and sewage.

Just imagine boreholes in areas with illegal oil wells. The underground water in those areas are full of dangerous chemicals and cancer carbons.
Babapupa, you and your Master must think lagosians are fools. All your excuses goes beyond ridiculous and borders on comedy.

How many people are dying of untreated water in LAGOS? Who gave out the statistics? Lagos State Govt? please provide us with a link to the source. Which of the water borne disease are Lagosians dying from? Cholera, river blindness? please let us know.

Yes, there are parts of Lagos, where the water is not portable but most professionals are aware of that, and provide for necessary treatments especially if the water is for consumption. And there are parts of Lagos like Ikorodu, where the bore hole water requires not treatment when it is taken straight from the ground. A test was conducted for me for a borehole i dug, by the LAGOS STATE WATER CORPORATION, and it was certified safe for consumption, pathogen free, lead free, and anything else free. So if you want people to stop sinking borehole, the most logical thing to do is to provide pipe borne water. For your information most poor Lagosians have no acess to any kind of water, and have to beg for water from people with boreholes, or buy from mallam. Is your Government able to provide piped borne water for 20million lagosians?

Areas with illegal oils wells? are we taking about Lagos or Niger Delta. If what you mean is people storing petroleum products in Wells, then you response should be to find and punish the culprits and not the victims. If you are not competent to find and punish people digging wells and storing petrol in them, then how are you going to punish hundreds of thousands of people with boreholes. A sane thing to do is to seek a law banning "illegal oil wells"

Is your ban also going to affect Pure Water and Bottled water companies? because almost all of them sell borehole water. What about some Lagos State Mini water works, like the one at Ikorodu, they pump water from boreholes.

Let's not derail this thread too far. There is a thread titled "the definition of God" currently ongoing and the cosmological argument on the existence of God is being addressed there. Please refer to it.

But very briefly note that only things which have a beginning require a trigger or cause. Self-existent things such as time do not require such a trigger or cause as they do not begin at any point. They are.
Your use of Time is wrong, time is anything but self existent. Time cannot exist independent of space, time and space came into existence at the same instant. Remember the physics definition of time is distance traveled per unit velocity.

Also since we do not know the true beginning of the universe (we only have an idea of when it began to expand), why can we not assume that the universe is self existent and so do require a trigger (according to your argument).

^^^ Exactly what I am on about here. Since this is a scientific fact that neither Matter nor Energy can be destroyed, must we not conclude that the energy which is the life force of a living creature does not perish at death, but merely changes form.

Is this not a good argument for the existence of that same energy in a different form - an intangible form - which may be analogous to what is meant by the term - "the spirit of a creature. . ."

For after all what is meant by the word "spirit" if not an intangible force. . .
Let me first say that the question that has puzzled man since the dawn of recorded history is what is consciousness? (some people equate consciousness with life), where is it situated, within or without? and does consciousness survive death. I believe with all the doctrines and ideas presented by both religion and even science, we are no nearer the truth than when we first asked the question.

My brother, the portion i bolded had not been proven or accepted by science. It has not been proven that life or consciousness is a force in the traditional definition of the word.

What about a burning candle or a light bulb being extinguished, does the light energy continue to else?

A dead organic being does not mean energy had been destroyed, be it a rat, human being, a plant or a bacteria, the energy contained there in is recycled back into the universe.

Also pastors, priests, etc can duplicate these same emotions in his followers after prolonged periods of programmed suggestions.

So everybody can experience it, it depends on context.

It was just that money was doled out to stock market gamblers - sorry speculators, and friends and families of bank MDs in the last dispensation without collateral or viable means of repayment
PoliticsRe: See What Sanusi Has Done To HiTV. They've Lost Premiership Rights! Painful! by wirinet(m): 10:54am On Jul 26, 2010
My two cents,

I think HiTV were operating on a faulty business model, and would have eventually run into huge problems.

First putting their whole eggs in the EPL basket is unsustainable.

second, their services were becoming very poor and most of their customers were becoming unsatisfied with their services. Most people were forced to keep both HiTV and DSTV and only pay subscription fees to DSTV during the EPL season.

Finally i believe most people were starting subscribe to DSTV Ghana to be able to get EPL and DSTV in one decoder instead of the expensive venture of subscribing to two decoders, so eventually HiTV would still have lost a huge chunk of the market to DSTV even if they got the EPL rights.

If HiTV could raise $292 million dollars in 27 months minus advertisements and hotel/viewing centers, why were not able to raise such funds within the last 27 months and pay the $100million. I feel they were in trouble even when they were paying considerably less for the rights, because they had stooped very low and started attacking card board built viewing centres with police and besides a lot of times the matches themselves were relayed late or not relayed at all.

I think people should praise Sanusi instead of blaming him, he has ensured that proper risk management is carried out before lending depositors money (OUR MONEY) out to risky businesses. And to me HitV was operating a risky business.

DSTV on the other hand have many programmes in many countries, and covers so many other sporting events, so they could really loose no sleep on EPL. In fact, they could decide to crush the "competition" (HiTV)easily by getting EPL at all cost

The point is, these pipes are being laid to harness produced gas that otherwise will be flared.
By derailing this project, they are only increasing the amount of time they have to endure through gas flaring. Unless, of course, it does not pain you that gas is being flared in your region.

The other discussions about the role of Niger Delta indigenes in the poverty wave sweeping through the region are general comments, not necessarily applied to this situation.
If you notice, i did mention that the women did one thing right in this case; they are targeting the federal government. However, they ought also to look to their state and local governments too.
Believe me, the amount of gas that would be piped though the pipelines passing through the community would not create a dent in the environmental pollution going on in the area, unless government makes it official state policy to ban gas flaring. The volume of gas being flared is massive.

These particular women are attacking contractors of the federal governments because of the obvious reason that they are working for the federal government. If they were state government contractors, they would still be attacked for the same reason, and besides electricity is still the preserve of the federal government so it would be foolhardy to demand electricity from the state or local government.

All they want is electricity in the mist of so much energy.

I love the saying "ignorance is bliss" and i also say "ignorance is paradise". Sometimes i wish i could bring myself to such levels of emotional bliss, it is just that when you understand things too much you lose the luxury of emotional intoxication, which is what i think makes us human. So i really envy you people who can get away from every day existence and enter into another world.

Having said that, such feelings is not unique to Christians, most eastern religions are able to enter such a mental and emotional state by meditation and yoga. A lot of African Religions has techniques for attaining such emotional states. Even non religious activities, like being in the presence of imagining being in the presence of our cult hero, be it Maradona, Michael Jackson or Mandela can trigger such a state of ecstatic joy.

I am Itsekiri and it pains me reading post of fellow Nigerians on a very simple and justified issue. It portrays some people from other ethnic groups as being insensitive, that all they want is just unhindered supply of oil money from the Niger Delta, without caring about the welfare of the people there.

How can any body fault the demands of the women. This is their major demand;

The women were aggrieved that Ugborodo community was not being considered for the provision of electricity even though that the project was meant to enhance the efficiency of PHCN and improve power generation and distribution in the country.

They vowed to frustrate the project unless the Federal Government made a convincing arrangement for a steady electricity supply to the community.

The leader of the women, Mrs. Mercy Olowu, said they embarked on the action because of the insensitivity of the Federal Government, adding that the government had consistently ignored the peaceful overtures of the community for the provision of electricity and other life support facilities in the community over the years.
How can the federal government award contracts for gas pipelines supplying power stations that will supply power to the rest of Nigeria, without as much as thinking of siting a transformer to the for where this gas is being sourced?

All they are asking for is constant electricity, which would not cost the FG much, if they incorporate it into the existing contract. The issue is not about road or water or even employment as some people has been digressing from the main issue to make their point for hating these women.

I am rather bemused that you are not aware that the supposed folding of time to create a wormhole is and remains a hypothesis which has not ever been done ANYWHERE. So please!

You you are supposed to be a scientist? In which lab did you fold time?
Before i explain further, i want to confirm that we are talking of the same thing. Sometime we can use the same terminology to mean different things.

When i talk of folding time-space, i do not mean folding of time as per the worm hole hypothesis, as i had already explained that no body had ever observed a worm hole and that it is only a mathematical construct, when i said folding of time-space i mean relativistic time dilation due to gravity or motion. So when a woman is stripped in the street before the eyes of everybody as a form of humiliation, the shyness(shame) she feels is a reaction to the possibility of being rejected by the opposite gender?
Sorry to say but your examples are at best juvenile, there is no direct connection between evolution and shyness or shame. As i had said shame/shyness are social constructs of societies and vary from society to society. In some societies a stripped woman is a sign of disgrace, in others it is a sign of natural beauty. There are nudist beaches all over europe where the shyness would be in being fully clothed.

justcool:
When a woman is walking down the street and the wind blows open her clothes momentarily, she quickly covers herself feeling ashamed; so this feeling is a reaction to the possibility of being rejected by the opposite gender?
Answer same as above. You seem to live in a very conservative society, but in a lot of societies, women walk around in pants and bra.

justcool:
So when there is no possibility of sex or the rejection of sex, shyness goes away? If so why don't women walk around their homes unclothed? Are they afraid of the possibility of being rejected by their brothers and parents?
There are many reasons for shyness, a little girl/boy is often very shy on meeting strangers and it has nothing to do with se.x. Even lots of grown ups suffer the same shyness when around lots of people or when lots of attention is on them. In a lot of societies girls and boys before the age of puberty walk around naked and bath in open spaces without being shy.

justcool:
So you are sure that when consent has been obtained shyness goes away? HHMMM But there are countless couples who still prefer to have the lights off during intercourse.

If shyness is a reaction to the possibility of being rejected, why do so many wives still feel shy being unclothed before their husband. Or better said why do married couples still have their cloths on when they are a lone?
You sound like a really an inexperienced juvenile. People prefer turning off bright light when having se.x because bright light affects the moods negatively. Low orange, red or even blue light enhances the love making moods. how to you expect to be shy of someone you have se.x with week in week out?

Married couples are shy of each other's unclothedness?  now that is very funny? Don't worry when you get married you will find out the truth instead of using your imagination.

justcool:
The above is tons of presumption. Africans did not wear cloths(cover themselves) until it was introduced by temperate dwellers? Talk about brainwashing, and inferiority complex. Majority of the peoples of Africa have always worn cloths(covered their privates at least). Their colthing may not be as thick or as elaborate as those of the temperate dwellers but they have always covered their privates.

Cloths do not only serve as protection from the environment but it serves as a covering of the private areas. This need to cover some parts of the body is peculiar to humans.

Even the most backward tribes in existence today, who never adopted anything from the temperate dwellers, still cover some parts of their body. Whatever they cover it with(some use leaves, sticks and etc) it doesn't matter; the fact remains that this need to cover some areas of the body is peculiar to humans. Evolution cannot explain this peculiar need in humans.
What is brainwashing and inferiority complex have to do with it? Your points are now getting slippery, we were talking about cloths and you are now talking about covering of private parts with leaves and sticks, now how can you define sticks and leaves as clothes. There are still many African societies where ladies leave their breasts exposed as a sign of purity and virility in order to attract men. Even in the ongoing world cup in south Africa, we saw pictures of lots of topless ladies running the streets and they were not shy.

justcool:
Please, in the light of evolution, explain this peculiar need in humans to cover certain areas of their body.
Well my own explanation is that since we do not have natural coverings and protection for some of our sensitive sex.ual organs, we must fine artificial ways of protecting/covering them. First exposing sexu.al organs directly to the elements ie sunlight and cold can be harmful (as they are very sensitive), then the male sexu.al organ will be disruptive to normal activities if not packed or protected properly. Also it would not be a good idea for everybody to notice you whenever the male is sexually aroused. as you you enter trouble with your wife, or the other female's spouse.

Now why we did not evolve a natural covering as is the case with other animals - i do not know.

justcool:
If evolution explains everything, one would expect that those who have dwelled in the temperate regions for thousands of years, should by now evolved into having furs(hairs on the body) like animals. Please tell me why humans evolved into having almost hairless bodies. Since growing hairs(furs) on the body is a very effective way of dealing with temprate regions, why did humans evolve or de-evolve to losing their furs. Remember that the primeveal primates from which humans evolved had furs. Even the present primates have furs.

Why would evolution get rid somthing(furs) so nessecery, leaving humans prone to pneumonia and etc.

All these goes to show that evolution was a process used to achieve the physical replica of models that already exist in the supraearthly planes.
Please return when you are chanced; you have a lot of explaining to do.

Thanks
No one said Evolution explains every thing, we are still trying to piece together a lot of mysteries, but we can make informed guesses based on the amount of evidence available.

We most certainly started out with furs and pink skin, but must have lost the hair due to a very important need. Scientist say that it is mainly to enable us process vitamin D, which other animals are able to synthesis naturally but which we cannot without the use of direct sunlight. So most probably we lost the furs to enable the skin get direct contact with sunlight. Then we then need to evolve protection against the harmful ultraviolet part of sunlight.

American went to the moon because of egocentric reasons, there was a space race and the Russians were ahead, so America going to the moon would give Americans great pride. And besides the moon is just in our backyard 1 light second or three days (by present propulsion technology)away.

The mission to mars is to study the possibility of exploiting the planet for material gains and to help answer some scientific questions, like is/was there life on mars. Also mars is about our closest planetary neighbour, about 30 light mins away or 6 months by present propulsion system.

Having said that, the possibility of sending a manned mission to mars is still decades away, because of so many problems that are yet to be resolved concerning prolonged space flight (by man). You should also not that even unmanned space mission to mars have very low success rate.

I am amazed that you imagine travelling at the speed of light is the only possible means of transportation between distant parts of the universe. Science is already exploring the possibility of such things as worm holes through which connections could be made. The simple fact is that in view of such staggering possibilities you must acknowledge that any beings who have had a head-start on us by millions of years would necessarily have developed more robust mechanisms of traversing the universe some of which may not even involve mechanical movement along a trajectory at all, talk less of travelling at any speed of light.

The possibilities regarding interstellar travel are legion: and the discovery of holes through which vast distances may be traversed in a millisecond is a significant possibility. Scientists talk about bending the fabric of space-time (i personally do not subscribe to that) to create wormholes. In view of these and other new lines of thought your submissions are out dated and altogether irrelevant.

This affirms to me that you are thinking in a box.

I am surprised that you dare limit or restrict with present possibilities what may be possible with another 200 years of scientific advancement.

Not to speak of millions of years of scientific advancement.

I tell you: what we know is a drop in the ocean compared to what is still unknown. For this reason i urge you to refrain from imagining that a being with a head-start of millions of years cannot complete a cross-universal journey. We have not been around long enough to state that in the least - we simply know too little.
Sorry to say, but you are carried away by media frenzy and media hype on exotic science, without a basic understanding of the topic itself.

First, there is no science exploring wormholes, there are just mathematical equations of what might happen at the centre of black holes, where we start dealing with such quantities as infinity and zero (not infinity of oneness). Maths and science always breaks down when we approach infinity and zero. Inside a black hole you are trying to deal with infinite quantities of gravity and energy in a zero space. So worm holes have never been detected not to talk of the possibility of using for anything.

Please get some education on what a black hole is. The energy contained in a black hole is so enormous that no matter or element can even approach it and still remain in material form, it would be converted to energy. So how do you think a space ship made of Elements and compounds and it living occupants survive a travel through a black hole. If we are dealing with energies (gravity) strong enough to bend space-time, then don't expect anything to remain in its material form inside it. The energy of our sun is child's-play when compared to energies inside a black hole

Study this Wikipediahttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wormhole article

Worm holes for traveling through space are stuffs of science fantasy and bears no semblance to actual science.

Just because there are skill many unknowns in science does not mean we have to resort to logical anarchy and make wild propositions.

Its funny how in reading the explanation of natural selection one, whose eyes are open, can clearly see that humans are not just products of natural selection. The theory itself testifies that humans are just products of nature, like animals. All animals behaviour can be explained through the theory of evolution and natural selection. But in the case of humans, we find behaviours that did not originate from the natural laws of selection and evolution. There is something in humans that to some extent, even goes contrary to what one would expect from nature. Behaviorally humans have some qualities that could not have been products of biological evolution.

Let just give one example--shame.

Shame is peculiar with humans; and actually, to some extent it goes contrary to evolution because the feeling of shame curtails mating, which is necessary for the reproduction. Since one of the goals of adaptation is to produce offspring, why would humans evolve the feeling of shame which interferes with their mating.
Two healthy animals at the mating period, once they come in contact and once all the prerequisites are met, they mate. This not feeling guilty about mating allows them to mate often and this ensures more offspring. Also, this not being ashamed to show their privates and not being ashamed of who is watching them makes it very easy for them to mate.

But when two healthy humans, of the right age met, they don’t just take of their cloths and mate. Shame comes in to prevent them from doing this. The woman never feels very comfortable walking around unclothed, neither does the man. Why would they evolve this hindrance to mating which is necessary for the survival of their specie.

And actually why wear cloths at all; their bodies could have adapted to regional temperatures like animal bodies. The answer is that humans wear cloths because they are ashamed of being unclothed. But why would this feeling of shame exist, if humans are just biological entities. Why did they evolve this feeling of shame; why be ashamed of your unclothedness when you have to be unclothed to perform one of the rituals that ensure the survival of your specie? It doesn’t make sense.

It is easy to explain, through the theory of evolution, why creatures evolved the urge to mate, mating is necessary for them to reproduce. But how can you, in the light of the theory of evolution, explain the feeling of shame in humans.

Humans, like all animals, feel the urge to mate( physical intimacy), this is natural, and can be explained by natural selection and evolution. But in the case of humans, this urge for intercourse is usually accompanied by or hindered by the feeling of shame.

To me, this is one of the evidences that humans are not just biological entities. Granted our bodies are biological vehicles which came about through the process of evolution. But inside us resides something else, something that is alien to the physical.  That’s why you cant explain away the behavior of humans, in the light of the theory of evolution.

Another one is “conscience.”  This is another thing that humans poses that animals do not poses; and “conscience” is not necessary for biological evolution and natural selection. To some extent it actually detrimental to it.
It is a pity i have very little time, but all your postulations are wrong.

There is little connection between shame and sex, i know you mean to say shy. Shyness is an egocentric reaction to a possibility of being rejected by the opposite sex. Men being highly egocentric are very adverse to being rejected. If a woman agrees to having sex without going through the mating ritual of mating, i am sure most men would happily mount the female without any feeling of shame or is it shyness.

Cloths started out as being a protective covering against the elements, after the homo species lefts its natural habitat and moved into colder regions. That was why the first clothing materials were animal skin from the cold areas. and that was why we Africans only adopted clothing after it was introduced by the temperate dwellers, when it became a symbol of fashion.

have to go for now

@ Mad Max/ Wirinet -

I am surprised by your assumptions. You both assume aliens cannot survive on earth. That's quite a presumption because it would be very strange to me that any sentient beings would have the capacity to traverse millions of light years of interstellar space and would not have the technology for appropriate body-suits to survive in alternate atmospheric conditions. For crying out loud even mere men have developed technologies to enable them enter and remain on the moon for substantial periods of time! How you suppose that other intelligent beings could not acheive better beats me.
Deepsight, science is based on series of facts. You put many bits and pieces of known scientific facts together to reach a conclusion. So it is not based on wishful thinking or assumptions. Even your above premise is very wrong. A sentient being that inhabit a planet millions of light years away would never be able to get here, even if it can travel at the speed of light (which in itself is an impossibility). Since light has a finite speed, it means the sentient being left its home planets millions of years ago (before homosapiens came unto the scene).
Let me further explain some scientific facts to you.

1. NOTHING and i mean NOTHING can travel faster than the speed of light. As an object tend towards the speed of light, you would require progressively more energy to propel it further, and you would require an infinite amount of energy to propel it to the speed of light.

2. Even if somehow you could travel close to the speed of light, any material object would burn up because of friction, because at such speed, the vacuum of space consisting of few molecules of hydrogen would become quite dense and pose considerable resistance.

3. Sustaining life in outer space for any length of time is quite a challenging, because of the constant need for water, oxygen and food. The people that went to the moon spent only 3 days in space and only stayed a relatively short period beyond the van allen radiation belt.

I know we reason along parallel lines, you assume that anything and everything is possible. I assume that the only possibilities are the once supported by observation and laid down scientific laws.

To carry enough supplies to sustain some living things from another solar system (from the journey to living on earth and return journey would require a storage space continent wide.

So if you say your aliens from outer space are spiritual beings, that defy all laws of science, i would not argue with you.

In my university days, you would not find more than a couple of ladies, in core science courses, most of them are more interested in humanities, law ans maybe social sciences.

No one member of the Nigerian ruling class can be resolved from a crime ( I am conceding it as a crime now as u people want me to agree it is a crime) that took place probably 5 miles from where the President, VP, Senate Presidency, Speaker of the House, Service Chiefs, IGP, Immigration, reside to exonerate one is to exonerate all.

The whole lot of them should be tainted with the same brush, they are all culpable of this despicable act.
Report logged to the moderator? wow, you must be really emotional about this issue. I wonder what the complaint entails, because i was really being civil in my assertions.

Maybe you feel i am a Christian insulting Islam in general, first of all this is the Politics section and not the Religious section (islamic), secondly, i have seem far worse insults in this section and in this thread in particular, and lastly, i was referring to your line of reasoning( mistakay, trenchcoat, knowall, etc) and not Muslims in general, because lots of Muslims have come out to condemn what you people are trying to defend (in the name of Islam).

Yes, we ALL condemn despicable acts by the Nigerian ruling class. When OBJ was accused to have slept with his daughter in law, most people came her to call for his head, although we would find a few morally bankrupt few that would give the excuse that it was a family affair.

If you check any thread on Ibori, Bode george, and even Odili, you fill find a lot of people firing at them. Our society cannot improve if we excuse despicable acts by the ruling elite using personal, ethnic, social, political or religious sentiments.

I can see dat y'all dat r against Yarima have no idea of wat Islam is all about, y'all ignorant of d religion. Wat can u say about d priest that impregnated d gurl in Benin? How old was she? Wat about d gays and lesbians? Lets be more realistic n not self centered.

Mr. Knowall u have really tried, if I were u I would not utter any word let dem say wat they will say dats their biz!

For guys insulting us, I am not here to trade insults. cool
If you cannot see the outrage against what Yerima has done (and has been doing), then i am sorry for your sense of morality. You are just throwing up irrelevant arguments. What is the connection between a priest impregnating a girl in Benin or anywhere else have to do with child marriage Sale? and how do lesbianism or gays fit into the whole picture.

Yerima says it is his religious injunction to keep buying up small girls and divorcing them when he has satisfied his libido. No Christian had ever come out to say his religion allows him to ra.pe, and no christian had ever come out to support a rape of children by priests(even if it is the Pope).

So because some people choose to be gays means it is justified for Muslims to Buy small girls.

I am sorry to say, but you guys are pathetic, I hope you do not sell off your daughter to the highest bidder in the name of Islam. A woman is a human being and not a commodity to be owned and traded by chauvinistic men.

Mad_Max:
We find oxygen, nitrogen and the other elements that make up the air suitable because we adapted to it over a vast expanse of time. Oxygen wasn't created when the universe and the planets were made: it came about much later, on earth. The smallest stirring of life on earth in the beginning used carbon and emitted oxygen as waste. It began to constitute a large part of the air. Other few tiny life forms found it poisonous and died. Others adapted and evolved to use oxygen. Others continued metabolizing carbon and emitting oxygen. So oxygen and nitrogen-breathing living things evolved.

People, predominantly in North America, report alien abductions. The thing is, the elements on this planet are suitable for life on this planet only, because it's had billions of years to adapt. Alien life forms will find our air extremely poisonous. If we visited another planet, any planet, we would not be able to breathe the air, or expose our flesh to it.

But people are reporting aliens, mostly in America. Sure, there are hoaxers and those who mistake everything they see for a UFO, from weather balloons to military aircraft to silos. A group of university pranksters once flew a balloon high over a park where there were hundreds of people. They were delighted when those people flooded the media with reports of UFO sightings. There's the crop circle hoax, where two artists made crop circles and diagrams in farms in England for decades. Copycats started immitating them all over Europe, and a whole alien culture developed from that, with people saying no human being could make diagrams like that. Interestingly enough, the 'aliens' failed to make a single crop circle on farms in Africa and other places with little access to European television. The two guys finally confessed but people had believed those crop circles were alien for so long, they refused to accept they'd been fooled at first. Movies had been made about alien crop circles, for crying out loud. Like 'Signs', featuring Mel Gibson.

Aliens cannot live here. This planet is for life unique to this planet. But it's hard to dismiss these stories, since it's been going on, in various formats, since time immemorial, as 'gods' and other strange things. What do you make of the alien abduction stories?
Mad_Max, i am highly impressed with your posts. Your understanding of basic science is astounding, i am surprised at your being a female. I hope that is not just an online identity.

I had been telling people for a long time, that UFO's (aliens)defies logic, even on earth moving an animal to another location (environment) often results in death. If you move fish to land, it will die and vice versa. Also if you move anaerobic animals to oxygenated environment, they would would die. Even if you move a polar bear to the equator, it will not survive, so how do you think a creature coming from another planet, solar system or galaxy can survive a few mins in our atmosphere.

Also you can never break the light barrier, so how do you think a creature can survive tens of years in outer space ( with all the powerful radiations in outer space that is detrimental to life), even if they have advanced mode of propulsion.

All Aliens stories are just that - Stories, how come the stories only emanate from few countries like the US, UK, Canada, Brazil. How come UFOs do not visit Ekiti, Gusau or mogadishu or even Bangladesh.

I would rather believe the Hebrew God, residing in a mountain and talking to his people in hebrew language, than believe in aliens visiting the planet.

Fdeveloper:
I would like those who are vehemently opposed to prostitution to explain to me exactly how the existence of prostitution personally affects their lives to the extent where they are calling for a ban.  To the best of my knowledge, no love-peddler will come to anyone's private house uninvited and in the same way nobody is forced to go to any clubs or brothels where love-peddlers are known to operate so why such strong emotion about an act between two consenting adults in private?  Please don't respond with religious arguments as not everybody believes in God.

To give another example, I don't smoke and I therefore don't allow or condone smoking in my house or in my car but I would never go to my local public bar and start shouting that the government should ban smoking there because I don't like it as the owner would rightly tell me if I don't like it I can always leave and find a bar where the owner doesn't permit smoking.

As has been rightly mentioned above, we have many more serious problems that deserve the undivided attention of our political administration and i see this as just grandstanding and playing to the large number of hypocritical people we seem to have in our society.
You should know that men still possess their primitive chauvinistic instincts, they want to be free to have se.x with as many women as possible especially virgins, but would foam in the mouth to think of a woman having se.x with any number of men she chooses, whether paid or free. It is amazing that people scorn at women who sleeps with more than one man,  but heap praises on a man that sleeps with many women, it is a sign of power.

The most sexually perverts in the world are the rich powerful elites, they are the one that spends millions just to sleep with any lady of their choice.

Sooner or later, the minister would be banning mastur.bation and pre marital se.x. as if these are the main problems in Nigeria
PoliticsRe: Prostitution Banned In Abuja by wirinet(m): 1:53pm On Jun 15, 2010
Our politicians are morons, there lack ideas on what to do, so they just say anything to get media attention. Prosti.tution does not have the reputation of being the oldest profession for nothing. Even in Mecca, where prostitution can lead to stoning, it is still a thriving profession. Even in stone throwing Biblical times prost, itution was very common.

Prostitution leads to  far less evil than evil than not having it. If men and women are denied of finding legitimate avenues of releasing excess sexual energy, you will be surprised how other vices like ra.pe, homosexuality, pedophilia and other sexual vices would increase.  Banning Prostitution will only make it more sophisticated and discrete.

Who is supposed to arrest the prost.titutes - the Nigerian police?. All it will mean is just free TOTO for police as egunje instead of N20. When i was still Night crawling, the police used to run after street ashewos, and you will see a some of them in police cars only for them to be released a few hours later after some "settlements".

The minister should concentrate on the real problems of Abuja. I would have been happier if he banned illiterate children on the streets of Abuja or banned unemployment in Abuja.

The name is WIRINET and not winirest.

Thanks for the appreciation.

As long as we improve our understanding of each other, no matter the religious persuasions, then our time on this forum is worth it.

But i still have a problem with you dividing people's character along religious lines. Believe me when i tell you that a person's character (whether just or unjust, filthy or clean or righteous or unrighteous), has little to do with his/her religious (or non religious) persuasions.

I beg you to stop judging others according to your religious doctrines. If other people of other religions do the same, it will lead to self righteousness, hated and intolerance.

My major grouse with Segun Adeniyi was his acceptance to take secrecy oath with Yaradua. Why did he need to swear an oath to continue to hold onto his Job?
