SOURCE: http://www.brainnewsng.com/boko-haram-yobe-reviews-24-hour-curfew-to-7am-6pm-daily/ Yobe State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, has reviewed the 24 hours curfew earlier imposed on Damaturu, the state capital, following the daring attempt by Boko Haram insurgents to seize control of the Government House on Monday morning. A statement signed by the governor’s Special Adviser on Press Affairs and Information, Abdullahi Bego, said review of the curfew hours followed discussions with heads of law enforcement agencies on the state in which the ongoing security efforts within Damaturu metropolis were reviewed. “As from Wednesday 3 December 2014, the curfew will start from 6.00PM to 7.00AM daily”, the statement read in part. The governor, who called on members of the public to continue to extend their support to and cooperation with security agents in their effort to ensure peace and security in the state, said people can move freely between the hours of 7AM and 6PM as the curfew will start from 6PM daily. “Going forward, the curfew hours will be reviewed further on the basis of recommendations from the head of law enforcement agencies in the state. “Members of the general public are kindly advised to comply with the new curfew hours”, the statement said. |
The 2015 Africa Cup of Nations will be odd in a certain way when the 16 teams on parade will battle for the coveted trophy without the reigning champions in the mix. It will not be the first time the Super Eagles will fail to seize the opportunity to defend the title following the 1996 ban when Nigeria refused to play in South Africa, but it is the first a Nigerian coach would get to keep his job after such major failure. The decision of the Nigeria Football Federation to keep Keshi has attracted criticisms to the football body from various quarters. The decision has gradually built up controversy, especially when observers point out that it was the same NFF that refused to offer the coach a new contract as it planned to hire a foreign coach, with two games left in the qualifying series. The decision to relieve Keshi of his position was reached after the team lost 1-0 to Sudan in Khartoum on October 11. Even after a 3-1 win in the return leg fixture against Sudan in Abuja four days later, the NFF still went ahead with their decision, temporarily replacing Keshi with Shaibu Amodu. The plan was to hire a foreign coach but the football body was forced to change its plan when President Goodluck Jonathan impressed it upon the officials to rescind their decisions. After the ultimate failure of not qualifying for the 2015 AFCON, however, some NFF officials have allegedly appealed secretly to sympathisers to plead with Keshi to resign. According to sources, these officials would want Keshi to take a walk instead of the NFF making the decision and incurring the wrath of the Presidency. Even the Chairman of Senate Committee on Sports, Adamu Gumba, tacitly warned against the sacking of the coach, saying that the team would need rebuilding. In toeing the same line as the government, NFF President, Amaju Pinnick, made a U-turn on his belief in Keshi and absolved him of blame while identifying the players as the problem. “Look at the attitude of the players. A coach can tell the players ‘look at the tactics we want’, and they go there and do their thing,” Pinnick said on Cool FM. He added later on SL10.ng, “We have Shaibu Amodu as the technical director, he was boss to Keshi. Keshi is the head coach, he has won everything and he is still going to work. ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha is the head of the technical study group and Felix Anyansi-Agwu, one of the most successful club administrators in the country today, is the head of the technical committee. With these people, I don’t think you can go wrong.” A 1980 Nations Cup winner, Adokiye Amiesimaka, hailed the decision to retain Keshi, but questioned the motive behind the initial quest to hire a foreign coach. “Keshi has done well as a coach. We should give the coaching crew more credit instead of criticising them,” Amiesimaka said. “At their first attempt, they won us the Nations Cup, and at the first attempt, qualified us for the World Cup. “We’re not even saying thank you to them, everybody is just saying ‘fire them fire them’, and we know the running battles Keshi has had with these so-called football governing body in this country.” But not everyone agrees with the NFF and Amiesimaka on Keshi. A former international, Oladimeji Lawal, and former striker Jonathan Akpoborie insist that Keshi should be judged based on his last result. “His last result in this case is the failure to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations,” Lawal said. “Nobody should tell Keshi or the NFF what to do. I’m not in the position to advise the NFF so I can’t tell them what to do, but they should know that his job is to win matches and qualify Nigeria for competitions. If that can’t be achieved, I don’t know what else they want him for.” Akpoborie rather called for the hiring of a foreign coach, arguing that foreigners always have straightforwardness in their selection of players and possess superior tactical knowledge. “NFF must bring a foreign coach with class, a top quality coach, a big name and established coach who has knowledge of African football and who is ready to develop the game in the country,” the former Wolfburg forward said. “The coach must be one who has a culture. Switzerland, Germany, Holland and Spain have football culture and that’s why they play well,” he argued. “I also don’t agree with people who say Nigeria don’t have quality players. We have them in abundance home and abroad, they only need to be harnessed.” A former Nigeria captain, Sunday Oliseh, said on his blog that the Super Eagles failed to qualify because the team were uncoordinated, blaming the coach and the NFF in the process. “It is a crime to air your opinion, give advice or suggestions on how to better the Super Eagles without the handlers throwing insults at you or crying out that you seek their job,” Oliseh said. “They probably do this because they got the job through backstabbing, hence they fail to understand that not everyone needs or wants to coach the Super Eagles. “When you lack ‘raw’ quality in your team, you advocate and build success via team work, team play and a regular team to compensate for what you lack in individual quality. “The uncoordinated way in which the Super Eagles play, which triggered our recent elimination (from the AFCON qualifiers), is borne out of the fact that there was too much line-up changes. Not only does the team not play well or succeed, it is ‘foreign’ and unknown to Nigerians.” “The FA’s technical committee is comical to say the least. It fails to understand what its job should be in the first place. I find it inappropriate for a national coach (no matter who he is) to be asked to justify his team selection to people who have no technical education and have never played at the highest level but believe they just have a gifted knowledge of football from just watching or having played it on the street or in school.” He added, “Most of us played football as kids; we all have opinions or ideas about football. This, however, leads some to think they are experts. This is not only wrong, but dangerous. “Should you want to be a top coach, you have to study and get yourself certified and even then you are not guaranteed success. “Spain’s Football Federation recently banned Real Madrid’s second-team coach, Zinedine Zidane, from coaching because he doesn’t have the right qualifications. “If they can ban such a legend from coaching the second division, why should we hand over our national teams and first division clubs to people who just attend two-week seminars and pretend to be qualified?” The Super Eagles will not get down to serious business until late 2015 when they are expected to begin their campaign for the 2017 AFCON. Before then, they are expected to play Brazil and Croatia in some of the friendly games lined up for them. http://brainnewsng.com/keshi-remains-untouchable-despite-eagles-woes/ |
https://brainnewsng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/Minister-of-Sports-Dr-Tammy-Danagogo-360x225.jpg Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi, is smiling to the bank even as Nigerians, companies and members of the Nigeria Football Federation weep bitterly for missing the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. The Minister of Sports, Tammy Danagogo, has paid Keshi N14m for the past two months, according to a report by Africanfootball.com. It was learnt that the transaction was carried out without the knowledge of the board of the Nigeria Football Federation – a move experts say further undermines the authority of the NFF over the coach. It was understood that Keshi was paid for October and November even though there is no contractual agreement between the coach and the NFF. The Special Media Assistant to the sports minister, Patrick Omorodion, who confirmed the payment, however told The PUNCH that the money was not meant for Keshi alone. “The money was not paid to only Keshi but it meant for the entire coaching crew. What was done by the ministry was just to fulfil an agreement earlier reached with the coaches. At the peak of the NFF crisis and with urgent matches to play, the minister stepped in and invited Keshi to handle those games after which it would be purely left for the NFF to retain him or ask another coach to take over.” But the NFF officials say that the explanation cannot stand as the minister has quietly taken over their role which has ultimately made nonsense their position as the immediate employers of Keshi and to whom the coach should report to. A member said, “The minister has been paying Keshi directly from the NFF subvention without any input from the NFF. This cannot be good for the relationship between employer and employee.” Keshi was in charge for the Equatorial Guinea 2015 qualifiers double header against Sudan in October and then the qualifiers against Congo and South Africa last month. But he was sacked midway into the qualifiers when it became very doubtful if the country could qualify with him in charge. When he was asked to go, the NFF announced a former coach of the Eagles Shaibu Amodu to take charge of the team for the remaining two matches but they had to rescind their earlier decision after Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan asked that he should be restated. Even though most Nigerians have asked for a new coach, the NFF members have become helpless under the prevailing condition. Even though the NFF president Amaju Pinnick has maintained a contract has not been agreed with Keshi, followers of the game in Nigeria see the N7m payment as acceding to Keshi’s demand that his pay be increased to that amount. The amount is N2m raise from what he received in his initial contract, which ran out after the World Cup in Brazil. SOURCE: http://brainnewsng.com/minister-pays-keshi-n14m/ |

https://brainnewsng.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Enyeama-N-Yaya-Toure-702x336.jpg Some call it the round leather game, others call it the beautiful game but the traditional name is association football. But whatever you call it, it is 90 exciting minutes of sweat and passion worth billions of dollars annually. Exactly 10 years after Jay Jay Okocha won the 2004 edition, the impact of African players on the European football scene has continued to grow as numerous Africans have made their mark in the Premiership, La Liga and Serie A to mention a few. And in recognition of the contributions of these African footballers, the British Broadcasting Service (BBC), in 1992, introduced a special award christened BBC African Sports Star of The Year Award, for African football players plying their trade in Europe. Now known as the BBC African Footballer of the Year Award, five finalists are poised to slug it out for the 2014 edition. Among them are two of Africa’s best, Vincent Enyeama of Nigeria and Yaya Toure of Ivory Coast, who are widely seen as top contenders. In this week’s Showdown, Enyeama and Toure lock horns as football gurus determine which of the pair deserves to win the 2014 edition of the award as the world awaits the unveiling of the winner on Monday, December 1. VINCENT ENYEAMA: Akwa Ibom State born Vincent Enyeama is the first choice goalkeeper for Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles. Born on August 29, 1982, and standing at 1.8m, Enyeama, who is currently plying his trade at Lille OSC has an intimidating career profile no doubt! He was called to the Super Eagles in May 2002 and hit national consciousness when he substituted Nigeria’s then first choice, Ike Shorunmu. Following his scintillating outing at Enyimba International club, which he helped to clinch the African Champions League title back-to-back in 2003 and 2004, Enyeama moved to the Israeli league where he played for Bnei Yehuda and later, Hapoel Tel Aviv, before proceeding to Lille in 2011. While in Israel, he clinched the Israeli League and won two cups with Hapoel Tel Aviv. Last season at Lille, he kept 11 consecutive clean sheets during the first half of the 2013/2014 season and as well achieved 21 shut-outs, more than any other goalkeeper in the top five European leagues. And in May, 2014, he became the first goalkeeper to be named the French League 1 African Player of The Season. His outing with the Super Eagles at the 2013 African Nations Cup in South Africa earned Nigeria the cup while he emerged The Best Goalkeeper of The Tournament. And few months after his sterling performance at the Brazil 2014 World Cup Finals, he was named world’s Fourth Best Goalkeeper. YAYA TOURE: African Footballer of The Year 2013, Ivory Coast and Manchester City of England play maker, Gnegneri Yaya Toure aka, Yaya Toure is an indigene of Bouake, Ivory Coast. The Ivorian midfielder who is 1.88 meters tall was born in May, 1983. He started his football career with junior Ivorian club side, ASEC Mimosas, in 1996, at age 18. In 2001, he moved to the senior category and played for Belgian club, Beveren, Ukrainian Metalurh Donetsk FC, Olympiacos of Greece, AS Monaco of France, Bacelona of Spain and Manchester City of England where he has been since 2010. He has over 85 caps for Ivory Coast with 16 goals while his appearance for Manchester City is above 140 with over 39 goals. Toure was voted African Footballer of The Year for 2011, 2012 and 2013 respectively. While in Bacelona, his club side won six trophies in 2009 alone. He was nominated for The Personality of The Year Award at the MTV Africa Music Awards in July 2014. He was also nominated for the Prize in Entertainment category at the 2014 edition of The Future Africa Awards. …And the people’s verdict: It’s Enyeama –Uwuyi Sam, student Enyeama deserves it. He is a hardworking and cool-headed player with sterling leadership qualities. However, Yaya Toure is also a fantastic player with enviable temperament but Enyeama should carry the day. I love Enyeama –Hanna Lawal, undergraduate I just love Vincent Enyeama and everything about him. He is handsome and gorgeously sexy. Apart from that, he is a great goalkeeper. I voted for him last Friday; they should just allow him to take the award. The award is for Yaya Toure – George Adebayo, businessman I wouldn’t have hesitated before voting for Enyeama and even canvassing for votes for him before now but after the disappointing outing of the Super Eagles during the just concluded AFCON qualifiers, I have little or no love for all team. If I had my way I would advice President Jonathan to disband the team out-rightly. Please, the award is for Yaya Toure. It is Nigeria’s turn to win –Melford Okilo, designer My take is simple. It is true that Yaya Toure is a fantastic and a handsome player but Vincent Enyeama is better endowed so we should give it to him. I want Enyeama –Tina Ugwumba, accountant I have been secretly dying for Enyeama. Hßad I known about the award earlier, I would have gone out of my way to garner votes for him. But unfortunately, I only got the information less than two hours before voting closed; thank God that I was able to vote. True speaking, if Enyeama were not married, I would have deployed everything at my disposal to steal his heart! Enyeama deserves it! –Efuroye Tinubu, wannabe footballer Both of them are in top form at their club levels and national teams. But Enyeama deserves the award more than Toure because Enyeama has won more trophies in the recent past so we should appreciate him by presenting the award to him. I am not saying this because he is a Nigerian but because he sincerely deserves it. Enyeama is at his peak –Patrick Osondu, football coach As a football coach, I want to tell you that Enyeama has hit his climax; he is at the peak of his career as a goalkeeper. After this period, his career will likely start witnessing gradual decline so, winning would be a big boost for him. And judging from his current form, I think he deserves the award. Yaya Toure man to beat –Virgy Linga, model Yaya Toure is the man to beat. He has been awesome at Man City. He is also sexier and cuter than Enyeama. I and my siblings voted for Toure and we are hopeful that he will emerge the winner at the end of the day. I’ll vote for physique not career – Okocha Nancy, undergraduate As for me, I will not even consider career achievements before voting but their looks. Enyeama’s frame is sexier than Toure’s. And judging from the little knowledge I have of soccer shows, Enyeama has been more consistent in form than Yaya Toure. Still shocked over AFCON exit –Quinnet Egeih, undergraduate How can you ask such a question at this point in time when Nigerians are still mourning the disappointing exit of the Super Eagles from next year’s AFCON? It is a big disgrace and I am still in great shock! Enyeama has Edge –Demola Adedeji, undergraduate Enyeama is the rightful winner. He has a very big edge over Toure because besides his ability to make vital saves, he also scores decisive goals. Remember that while playing in Israel, he scored a total of 23 goals through penalties and free kicks. He has achieved so much within the year under review. Beware of Nigerian fans – Lizy Ekpemchi, corps member I would advise you to thread softly while carrying out interviews of this nature. You must be careful while selecting those you want to interview. Nigerians are predominantly football enthusiast and they could harm you if you fail to thread softly. Enyeama sexiest Super Eagles player –Adaeze Florence, undergraduate Enyeama is one of the sexiest men among the present crop of Super Eagles players. Though he is handsome but his calm nature has endeared him to me more; he deserves the crown. God will secure victory for Enyeama –Bola Awoniyi, teacher I see Vincent Enyeama as a good Christian. I always watch him lead the Super Eagles in prayers before and after their games. I believe that the successes he has been enjoying are as a result of his closeness to God. And I believe that the same God will surely secure victory for him Enyeama has all it takes to win – Israel Tobechukwu Enyeama has all it takes to coast home to victory. And I believe that if the exercise is 100 based on merit, Enyeama will surely win; he is a fantastic keeper. And for him to have emerged the best goalkeeper in Africa and the fourth in the world shows that he is divinely favoured. Yaya Toure is my choice –Love Anyanso, student I know that many Nigerians would prefer voting for Enyeama just because he is a Nigerian. But by rating, Toure is the better candidates for the award. He is my preferred candidate; my choice. The award not only about Vincent Enyeama and Yaya Toure –Uguru Benjamine, footballer Everybody is just talking about Vincent Enyeama and Yaya Toure as if BBC has narrowed the contenders to only two slots. But while it is true that the pair’s forms were outstanding during the season under review, people should realise that in sports, anything can happen at any time. So, people should desist from rushing into conclusion. SEE MORE: http://brainnewsng.com/vincent-enyeama-vs-yaya-toure-who-wins-bbc-african-footballer-of-the-year/ |

SOURCE: http://brainnewsng.com/maheeda-admits-she-sometimes-feels-jealous-of-tiwa-savage/ Singer, Maheeda who is known for always posing nude on the social media and in her music videos has revealed that she is jealous of fellow singer, Tiwa Savage. In a recent chat with Encomium Magazine, the singer said; “I used to feel threatened, it is normal. Sometimes I feel jealous of Muna, Tiwa Savage. I feel like why are you having all those things which I don’t have. It is just normal but it is the ability to control it that really matters. When asked why she loves to go nude despite being born again, she said; “True, I don’t have a problem doing that, but I think it is because of my job and I know most Christians won’t understand it. But I just believe that this is what I have to do, to get attention, especially when it comes to my job and I just believe His grace is enough for me. He loves me more than my ‘unclothedness’. ”If you see God as a Father because He sees you as a daughter, I would not because of your unclothedness want to ruin you or kill you. That is how I see God. In a recent interview with Encomium, the Afrobeat singer claimed he found out after a DNA test was carried out on them and confessed to being disappointed. “I did a DNA test and was told two of the children are not mine. The first two, a boy and a girl. It is very serious. I never knew somebody could give you what is not yours. I’ve three boys now. I can’t father children I was tricked to believe I am their father,” he lamented. Because of the betrayal, he returned the two children, Dupe and Tosin, to their mothers. Funke, his ex-wife, gave birth to his first child and son, Made, who Femi treasures so much. And Bisi Ajala gave birth to Ayomide and one other child that the DNA test recently proved not to be Femi’s. The third woman’s name was not revealed.
