DomPerignon:Lol. Thanks for reminding them ojare. Some people, like Obi, love pontificating hypocritially as saints in public as if their record in Government has been wiped from the memory of all Nigerians. Yet can you blame Obi, El Rufai, Atiku, Sule Lamido, Malami etal for attempting to re-invent themselves as saint ans saviours when they know how simple-minded, gullible, easily brainwashed plus ethno-religiously prejudiced and discriminatory, many Nigerians are? Look at El Rufai calling PBAT "evil" daily. Yet, what massacre of Christians did Tinubu oversee while Governor of Lagos? Ditto Obi attacking PBAT daily yet failed horrendously per security, while Anambra governor, with some even insisting he was complicit in the death of the many bodies of young men floating in Ezu river and the disappearance of many Igbo youths from Awkuzu police station, "the most brutal in Nigeria", under his watch. Meanwhile Tinubu succeeded to make Lagos one of the safest States in Nigeria within 8 years whereas he met a cesspit of crime, like constant armed robberies and killing, on ground. They are all joker yet they have bigger jokers than themselves in ordinary Nigerians who are always incapable of understanding that charlatans like Obi etal are 'working' them. |
esnbrutality:Lol. Grow up. SW and SS are currently the two region giving Nigeria releveance, worth and glory. You think your childish fantasy of wishing malevolence against the SW will ever come to pass? Again ,grow up. Many may not like the shenanigans of Trump and his crew but who will disregard the undisputed strenght of the USA, from economics might to STEM presence and even global popular culture, to be making silly claims against the nation? The only way is up for the SW know that and stop wasting your time with the negative prayers you say against the region and her people twenty times a day. There is nothing any power can do to drag the SW back. Last I checked, it is not your barren, unwelcoming and backwards region anyone is making or will ever make the claim about below. Confront facts, such as how the SW is the choice destination of migration for all Nigerians and even foreigners, for very good and solidly enduring reasons, and stop deluding yourself. You will only cry harder as the SW goes from strenght to strenght because, comparatively, the region and her moderate people always do the right things while you guys, from time immemorial, remain self-destructive and unprogressive. https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/south-west-on-course-to-be-home-for-50-nigerians-2050-senator/%3famp

surgical:Do you have proof of what yoi are saying because most Nigerians love talking based solely on their prejudice, Ignorance and bias but never facts. The tax credit scheme goverment has in place with big firms and industrialist like Dangote, for example, has assisted to deliver considerable infrastructure Nigerians are using like the Apapa-Oshodi-Oworonshoki concrete expressway still solid and doing a stellar job today. Many of you just talk negatively with no verification for accusations you make. If I ask you to show they have not done anything with "the little you have been collecting" you wont be able to do so. The problem as I see it is that too many Nigerians are too comfortable operating with perverse and illiterate level of ignorance. You are even ignorantly claiming I am some sort of "beneficiary" when you dont even know me. Did you put any government money in my pocket to be making the asinine claim "you are among the benefiaries you will never see anything wrong with payment without receipt"? You think I am some politician or lackey of Nigerian politics merely because I speak on behalf of good initiatives of government and remain unwilling to join the constant, ignorant, misguided and automatic negativity/doom mongering of you and others who insist Nigeria is beyond redemption and condemned to fail?
|
femi4:Maybe you should speak on it's premise instead of going off on another tangent to focus of tax because that suggests to me you're doing the Nigerian thing of trying to focus on negatives alone to satisfy a need to to pander to doom mongering and deliberately ignore good developments for Nigerians and Nigeria. Stop trying to be evasive and answer me regarding rhe numerous good development the CBN initiative achieves for Nigerians in the diaspora. |
femi4:Inspect the article again. Is it about tax or is it that some of you who did not read and understand the general point of the article made issues about tax alone? What about the fact this CBN initiative opens the way, for the first time in our history, for diasporan Nigerians to have direct access to all the financial opportunities in the Nigerian banking and investment system from their diasporan bases? Any comment about that Sir? |
helinues:Well said and a very important point. One thing many do not know is that they are self-harming with their wicked, vindictive, hateful and joyless outlook. Getting the best out of life, and every single day, begins with a positive, optimistic and benevolent attitude. When you are full of hate, malevolence, bitterness and anger towards your nation, fellow human being, the opposite sex etc, etc you are dead inside and merely just waiting for the actual physical event to come to pass. One of my favourite individuals in the world is the guy below who has become rich himself interviewing wealthy folks , billionaires and millionaires, to gain tips and advice for becoming successful. He has interviewed countless millionaires and billionaires and I have watched and learned lessons from many of his quick fire Q&A interviews. Simply enthralling. Black, white, Mexican does not matter. Be an achiever and he wants to pick your brain. He is, to me, an example of what a fulfilled and alive human being should be. I.e full of life, optimism and the joy of possibilities. Unlike the many bitter, hateful and damaged souls here who can never say anything good about others or even their nation let alone open their mind to the fact other Nigerians can be their mentor or that Nigeria can be a great nation. God bless us all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKkwS6FT7wY?si=PiDJVGiozQatLmx5 |
Ttalk:Of course he will flee. Can he show proof of being a progressive poster? No. Per the bolded in your post, I concur. In fact this is one of the main reason I am an unapologetic and uncompromising fan of regional autonomy. I am exposed enough to know a nation, I e Nigeria , is doomed when it hosts enemies-within who are supposedly Nigerians yet hate Nigeria and their fellow Nigerians. Such a nation is going nowhere and only wasting time and resources on an exercise in futility called 'one Nigeria''. Your talk of security is even the best example. We know the perverse Southerners jumping on it to use attacking and demarketing Tinubu. Whereas every truthful and principled adult know the truth of the matter which is that some are just ramping up insecurity, they have broad support within their region to achieve, simply to make the current President look bad so their effort to seize power in 2027 becomes easier. Well, good or bad, we will all gain the nation our actions and inactions deliver. Some people should remember that. |
helinues:That is my point exactly. They never introspect because they are not interested in doing so. They are fully aware they do wrong yet they enjoy that and have no remorse nor interest in reforming. This is why I think the word perverse was created with Nigerians in mind.
|
Babalegba:Absolutely. Things are even made worse by the fact that not a lot of Nigerians are truthful to themselves or others . We know it is human nature to blame someone else for everything but the propensity of Nigerians for doing that is the worst in the world and I speak as a well-travelled and exposed individual. Majority of Nigerians are very irresponsible. They personally do wrong in their daily lives. Steal, lie, defraud, break traffic rules, cut corners, engage in corrupt practices, etc, etc , etc.. Yet they somehow expect leaders to be saints who have dropped down from heaven without even the basic commonsense to note that leaders are examples of all of us meaning we are simply being led by those who are like us. The ultimate and obvious conclusion being that Nigeria cannot change for the better unless all Nigerians change for the better. The Chap you responded to, for example, is not even minimally decent or upright enough to accept that Kanu has done wrong and actually continues to insist on his innocence and sainthood. Yet he will bark at Tinubu and Yorubas daily as "the problem of Nigeria". There is no way thinking Nigerians will not conclude that many ordinary Nigerians are warped human being. We see proof of that here every day. |
SarkinYarki:Show your post commending the good Tinubu, Tunji-Ojo, Wike etal have done. Go ahead. I want to see them so I can judge if you have even a decent or progressive bone in your body. There are guys here, whether it Abia, Oyo, Edo or Katsina being discussed, who will always laud progressive development. You are never in such a category. You should prove me wrong if you can because those who are truly good and progressive never have any issue giving credit when and to whom such is due. Be that their worst enemy even because the progressive decency in them leads them to celebrate progress for humanity and communities that their dislike of individuals cannot suppress. |
Helinues, many Nigerians are not as good or as decent as they should be. That is my opinion from observing ordinary Nigerians daily. Whether it is bastardization of our character, by how terrible Nigeria has become, that is to blame or we are just naturally aberrant people is what I cannot work out. For sure though, many Nigerians are wrong shades of human being and they are perverse i.e they take pride in doing wrong with no interest in reforming for the better. For example, look at the biggest and most insultive attackers of Tinubu here in Nairaland. Now, inspect the post of those guys to note if they have ever said anything good about Tinubu, his political appointees undoubtedly doing well or even Nigeria for that matter. That should answer your question because we know Tinubu, undeniably, has done many good things and we also know there are many good things about Nigeria. That they can never commend what/who must be commended is proof some people are wicked, bigoted , hateful and perverse. |
SarkinYarki:When will you stop this hypocritical, childish and discredited nonsense of blaming leader for everything as if they come from hell and you and every ordinary Nigerian are saints from heaven? Even you, from your conduct here, are not a good person at all. You'd be a horrid, prejudiced and wicked misruler if a leader tomorrow.100%. Leaders = ordinary Nigerians and vice versa. The day people like you accept that, fundamentally, all Nigerians must change for Nigeria to become better is the day you begin to see how our nation needs to be reformed for good. |
Solababa91:Another gracious post. Valid point. My take is that is that establishing a culture of efficient tax collection is needed to begin with. We cannot look at potential for corruption along to dismiss the need for a nation to collect taxes because many nations of the world, previously very corrupt, became better through the synergy of effort between followers and leaders to evolve more transparent and efficient system for usage of collected taxes. If you even do a Google search, with Nigeria as specific parameter, you will see many hits you were previously unaware of illustrating how Nigerians can monitor government spending and utilisation of taxes. We must start somewhere because it is horrendous very few pay tax in Nigeria. |
Wahabfuture:Like I said earlier, I appreciate posters who talk as you do because your worry is legitimate since Nigeria is a very corrupt nation and concerned citizens have the right to be worried. Yet, my consistent argument is that we don't have a culture of paying taxes anyway meaning those making noise online about "they will loot out taxes" are just empty noisemakers "bandwagoning" deceitfully anyway. Millions of Nigerians operate on the informal sector where they will never pu tax from the day they begin operating to the day they leave the Earth It workers , under PAYE scheme, who cannot avoid tax payment along with companies and industrialists like Dangote, Adenuga etal. Let's stop fooling ourselves. Tax collection from average Nigerian has never been a part of our nation's in recent memory. Let us begin efficient tax collection it and see the effect before enemies of progress who have never paid and will never pay tax start making noise to fulfil an agenda of bashing everything good the Government does. |
PeterObi4Presid:How many Nigerians pay tax willingly and happily to the extent your sort are now all shouting the above? What money do you pay that is going down the gullet of politicians? We can agree many politicians steal allocation, inflate contracts etal but never you come here pretending to be a tax payer. Aside civil Servant, with tax deducted automatically from their wages, majority of Nigerians are tax Dodgers by nature. It says a lot about the propensity of scamming typifying the character of Nigerians that many of you are now coming to shout "they will embezzle our tax payment" and "our taxes built Lagos" and such nonsense. What a joke. |
Smartcitizen:What are they hiding exactly? If I show you ten videos explaining the tax reforms explicitly, you will still ask same comment on another thread later today, tomorrow and even December. They should come and give you a presentation in your home regarding information that is everywhere and accessible ba? By their post we shall know them and it is amusing some of you think you can use the flimsiest of excuses to pretend you care about Nigeria or her progress. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VT8HMUaI9_s?si=k668GuKDZvHzF7AM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgtaQAmTBKg?si=8yazF5TgILdIjij3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MganE8JzPc4?si=frV9cwZ05O38JfkO |
saintopus:Good post and utterance from a progressive and well-meaning Nigerian. Very different to the post of the nuisances above yours. Sure that is always a worry but we have never had a decent culture of proper collection of taxes from those who can and should pay it. I feel we should begin from that point at least and then play our part challenging Government to spend what is collected judiciously. What we have now is condemnable i.e a situation where tax collection is lax and virtually non-existent because Government is too focused on oil income to care about other legitimate avenues of raising money to use developing Nigeria. The principle of collecting tax efficiently is sacrosanct to all serious nations of the world. |
Justiceleague1:Bro, he is being sarcastic and mocking those whose rabid criticism is reserved for PBAT, APC and Lagos State. Starting with hypocritical Peter Obi and his delusional Obidients. It will be interesting to note if Obi or Atiku will have anything to say about this new low in Nigerian politics where LG chairmen wives are flown, all expenses paid, to Turkey for the purpose of "learning to advise their husbands better" when same same men already have several paid expert advisors. Whereas when Remi Tinubu said "donate towards national library projects rather than buy me birthday gift" they were barking sanctimoniously. |
hegelian:Please shut up. Are they linking this to Atiku, they are backing to be President, as they link everything to Tinubu including things that have nothing to do with our President? |
WesleyPepper:Of course everything will naturally be quiet because many only know to launder the sordid image of their kinsmen to come here swearing at PBAT 24/7. |
Let's all wait and see what Atiku, always shouting of "waste" and "misplaced priority" against PBAT and Tinubu, will say over this development in his home State with a PDP Governor. Atiku, the wannabe President, should not fall our hand ooh. We are waiting Lol. |
ufotunang:Oga, when are you going to rise up and find a way to pin this development on Tinubu and APC as you usually do with anything and everything? |
Lol. Shebi Adamawa is a PDP state. Where is the usual noise of "State capture" from Peter Obi he uses against everything to do with PBAT and APC? This is Atiku's home. State when will we hear accusation of "reckless and irresponsible spending" he levels against PBAT and APC daily? As Nigerians will say "yeye dey smell" lol. |
djseanjohn77:Thanks for your input. Really appreciated as it is good to read intelligent and progressive responses now and then. |
helinues:You are correct. Good they sympathise but that is not all that responsive and solution-driven Government do. They should work to deliver solutions so that, in an age climate change is wreaking havoc everywhere globally, flash floods does not cripple Lagos Island and even pose a threat to the lives of Lagosians. To their credit, and shown in the report, they identify the problem and have given assurance efforts will be made to prevent a repeat of this in future. To that end I dont think you comment of "lazy Government everywhere" is fair in regard to Lagos Goveenment and her leaders. We must also provide clarity on some of the affected areas. At Kusenla, the challenge is technical: the downstream is about 1.2 meters higher than the invert of the existing drainage, as confirmed by the survey conducted for the ongoing project awarded by the State government at the end of Kusenla road which includes a pumping station. Around House on the Rock church, the flooding was linked to infractions we highlighted earlier; illegal construction on flood plains and dumping of refuse in drains. These kinds of activities worsen flooding and must stop. In several of the videos shared yesterday, clear infractions were observed, and @followlasg will ensure that such illegal structures and obstructions are promptly removed. Including those illegal reclamations carried out without the requisite Environmental Impact Assessment Report and the Drainage Clearance. |
@OP. It was terrible and it is right Lagos Government issue a statement on it. I was stuck in it coming from Malnland at 11.00am , enroute to a meeting at VGC, to arrive at 7.00pm. It was a horrible experience. Lagos State Government must learn from this development and move to ensure the problem gains permanent solution. Flood that is capable of crippling the main road, i.e Lekki Expressway, that runs across the lenght of the lekki end of Lagos Island, beyond Awoyaya and onwards to Epe, is simply unacceptable. Commendable Lagos state Government acknowledged the problem, cited the challenges and have assured they will do the needful. Hopefully, Lagosians will no experience this again. |
zoedew:He always does and always will because he is incorrigible. Shame given the fact he is an elderly individual who should be wise, pragmatic and circumspect. |
66uvie:What has inflation rate got to do with this? We are talking of Nigerians in the diaspora having an alternative and more profitable investment destination for their disposable income in their own nation of origin, courtesy of newly created access to the financial and investment market sector of Nigeria, and you are yapping on about inflation. Why do you think so many Africans, including those born and bred in the West, are moving back to Nigeria, Ghana etal to take advantage of the "last trade frontier". Even those who have never set foot in Africa, African Americans for examples, are making the move to Africa to take advantage of the "last trade frontier". I tire for your sort who, as owners of so much potential wealth in your African nations and soil, you still find ways to wallow in misery rather than get to work before second colonisation of Africa, as the world runs out of resources and begin to greedy cast eyes on our continent's huge mineral wealth, returns you and your generations unborn to worst form of slavery. I.e servitude to non-Africans in your own African nation. That is what will happen if you continue seeing negatives alone and complaining always that everything and everyone is against you while the emotionless and rapacious Chinese, Lebanese, Indians, Koreans etal keep trooping into Nigeria and other African nation to do the needful. Keep complaining and making excuse for not getting involved. Others, non-Nigerians, will get involved and they will win big from Nigeria because every ambitious human being, regardless of nation of origin, wants to get involved when the economy of a nation opens up beautifully. Learn from Dubai and Singapore, for example, that are now major investment destinations of the world with so many foreigners moving to those nations daily to make their fortunes. Good luck to those sort. Nigerians like you should not complain when Lagos and most developed cities of Nigeria become like New York and London in future with many wealthy non-Nigerians living their best lives there. https://www.tradefinanceglobal.com/posts/africa-is-the-future-all-eyes-turn-to-youngest-continent-as-next-frontier-for-growth/ “Africa is the future”: all eyes turn to the youngest continent as the next frontier for growth
|
Daneguakhi:Stop talking like someone with poverty mentality who will never succeed. Instead of viewing things from the glass-half-empty perspective of tax and liability why are you blind to other considerations concerning how hardworking Nigerians in the diaspora can invest their money in Nigeria for greater returns? As is typically the case, access to the investment environment of emerging economies like Nigeria, seeking funds to grow they are willing to pay guaranteed good returns on, will benefit Nigerians because the developed nations they migrated to cannot offer equivalent high yield on investment since their growth potentials are limited and often hovering around 0.6 to 1% capacity. Pathetic because African nations with leaders doing the right thing can hit even as high as 3% to 5% annual economic growth. This is a simple and logical consideration. I.e support emerging economies starting to get it right (because of human, material and mineral resources endowment) and win big. Western economies are saturated and going nowhere because they cannot magically create new opportunities when such do not exist. Not Africa and Nigeria that is still at 20% uptake rate of her potentials in my opinion. Why then is your brain stuck in tax and negativity alone? Could it be because your dislike of others and desire to see them fail has inadvertently made you unwilling to win in life? Or is hatred of others leading you to self-harm via rejecting what those you hate initiate that can benefit you and your generations unborn if you maintain the open mind to see clearly and beyond your prejudice?
|
Babaflenjor:I agree and recognition really isn't for now. More a starting point because we all know there has to be a precursor to a solution to this polarising matter fracturing the world in two. The announcement forces the US and Israel to recognise that more nations of the world are open to equitable compromise to secure permanent peace in the middle East. From what I see, there is no capitulation to HAMAS. I think the stance is that HAMAS will be discussed and tackled when stakeholders at least sit at a table to consider a two State solution. Things can go on from there. |
DavidEsq:Lol. What "Trojan horse" kibosh finality do you want to bring to an issue that, at the most simplest level, is about investing your savings in your diaspora location for max 4.3% return , over a year of fixing the deposit, whereas returns of up to 18% interest awaits if you have access to the Nigerian treasury bills, high interest deposit and bonds investment schemes? A Nigerian in the UK with £100k GPB to invest should tie it up in the UK for 3% return yearly ( as ISA has cash investment limit less than 100k) when he can receive perhaps 20% on same return as lender, via treasury bills, to the Nigerian Government? Why do you ignore the above, which is proven, to be talking of tax that is even inconsequential when we look at the potentials for Nigerians to bilaterally gain from and assist their nation of origin while residing and working in the diaspora? |
DEROX:Agreed. Look the other way then. |
