Justwise, I speak for Glasgow alone. Students with families are getting council houses. Heck, a single lady got 2 bed bedroom within 2 months( a miracle) after applying. I got one too. I know about 5 other families(applied) staying in council houses( housing association apartments), newly built sef.

You guys will have to renew your visa and that question would be asked if you have at any point accessed public fund which includes council housing.
