Nbote:
No doubt coal is d number one source of energy in the whole world because it's quite cheap but all the countries using d same coal for energy are all signatories to the same convention and as such certain conditions and standards have to always be met and maintained for the continuous use of coal for energy generation. D same thing applies to nuclear energy. The IAEA has stringent rules regarding harnessing nuclear energy not because it is restricted to a few elite but because of d safety conditions it requires and d many other uses it can b put to. Japan is still yet to recover from the explosion at a nuclear plant some years ago. Those of us quick to point to the US, China and India's coal energy generation are simply jus being sentimental about it all. Why are we selective in making our comparisons with these countries. We shouldn't compare our economies because of some certain things that we are yet to put in place but we can compare their energy generation becos of the same certain things we are yet to put in place? Let's try to analyze issues like intellectuals. I don't think any of our hydropower stations is working to half it's capacity. Most of dem have either one or two turbines working where there's supposed to be an installed capacity of more than that. What happens to increasing the capacity of these turbines and replacing the
old ones dat are still in use? Oh yes we've been made to believe pipelines supplying Gas is to blame but the last time I checked we still have "Hydro-electric" stations dat were in place before the gas stations came.
The United state does not rely on one source of power, why should anybody else? We are not saying we will not improve what we already have, what we are saying is that we want to add other alternatives. You can't say because you are working on A you can have B,C,D and E. The idea of the government is to use coal in the east, wind mills and solar in the north, and still have the hydro. Nigeria energy need is too big to rely on one.

Do you mean trap co2 and let out water and trace pollutants?
If that is what you meant, those techology are expensive. They dont come cheap. The carbon capture recently constructed by a power utility corporation in Canada for a 120MW plant cost just over 1billion dollars. Can Nigeria afford that?
make them look for other means of power generation as no western country would support this quest.
Can't they go to the Chinese then? Those guys are all about their paper, and they are cheaper too.

Christianity EtcRe: The Top 10 Lies About Atheism By Nigerians by WORLDPEACE(m):
JackBizzle:
6) Atheism is a religion
This is one of the more dubious lies done not in ignorance but of hatred. Many christians and muslims know that their religions are problematic, so they too try to rope atheism in the problem as well by calling atheism a religion. They see atheists coming together to criticize their religion and they use this as a way to get back at the atheists. How can atheism be a religion? Are there gods in atheism? Is there any mode of worship? How can a lack of belief be a religion? Do atheists have any rituals? If I put 100 atheists in a room, would you find one single thing that ties them all together? No!
Reasons Why Atheism Looks Like A Religion
1. The fact that many Atheists are puzzled that the other side does not share their beliefs when the 'fact' is supposed to be obvious to all. That is subjectivity. This is exactly how the minds of religious people work.
2. The obsessive need to proselytize by some atheist can begin to look like they were given the commission to do so by a higher power. This is what the very religious do.
3. The self-righteousness of some. The "we are not like them who have done this and that" expressions. It's like watching christians and Muslims go at one another.
4. The "Scientists say" prefix every time Atheists want to make an important point often reminds one of "My Pastor says" or the "Qur'an says" which basically means that that "greater mind's" views overrules yours and everybody else's. This too is the stuff religion is made of.

And you know the say "If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck."
Christianity EtcRe: The Wrong Way To Be An Atheist by WORLDPEACE(m): 6:30am On Oct 03, 2016
Seun:
The same intelligent scientists whose theories are responsible for all the comforts we enjoy in the modern world, have told us that there is overwhelming evidence (fossils, DNA, embryology) supporting the theory that all the complex life on earth today evolved from simple life forms over a long period of time under the guidance of natural selection or the survival of the fittest.
1. The theories that are responsible for the comforts we enjoy came from Scientists not Atheist or evolutionists. They are not one and the same. Before Darwinism there were many scientific theories and after him there have been scientific theories that were not from Atheists. Don't fall into the common error that scientists have always agreed on the issue of how life came about or that silence from many scientists equals consent. You as an Atheist should know that there are people out there who are afraid to profess Atheism because of where they are. The same is true in the science community. There are Atheists scientists, theist scientists and Agnostic scientists. There are also Atheist scientists who are not convinced about the evolution theory. So to lump them all up is a mistake.

2. Once smart is not always smart. This is the poor foundation upon which many religions are built. The pastor is the smartest or most successful guy around therefore he must always be right. Or this book is the deepest book I have ever read therefore it is without flaws. The idea that someone or a group of people have special access to higher knowledge and are all knowing is what religions are made of. Is atheism the new religion?

Your country is not any better than Kenya, Sa and Ghana nor is it heaven so i find it quite hypocritical that upon all the crazies that happen in ur own country, you turn a blind eye and point fingers towards other countries. Ya"ll must be damn deluded undecided
Don't take this personal, you know we love to poke fun at ourselves too. SA, Ghana and Kenya we poke fun at when we are tired of doing so to ourself. Where have you been? Why should a theist dive into a foxhole in the first place? There's a god that would protect you, isn't that what you believe
1. You need to stop thinking like a former Christian.
2. Theism is not the same thing as belief in an all powerful God.
3.Theism is not belief in a loving God.
4. Theism is not belief in one God. Some theists believe that there are different gods that are in continuous battle for control of man's destiny.
5. Theism is not belief that God will always act to protect his servants.
6.Theism is simply belief in the existence of a god or gods, specifically of a creator who intervenes in the universe.

You need to stop thinking like a former Christian. I know it is hard but in order for you to be a logical you need to understand the other side.

That's wishful thinking. Groupthink is in every area of life; politics, religion, Academics- everywhere. As long as people share a common ideology they are prone to groupthink. We are social beings and we want acceptance in the group to which belong. This might make us not want to think an idea further or express our opinion when we feel or think otherwise. You may not disagree with a statement but if you are not certain about it and yet you don't say "please let's deliberate on this a little more before drawing our final conclusion", you are guilty of groupthink. We know how many times we've all been guilty of this. Atheist can and have been guilty of groupthink many times.

They don't learn from history bro...

Awolowo was used by the north to put down the only people that could challenge the north. Awo thought they would reward him handsomely; they dealt with him.

MKO Abiola was used by the north to deal Awo his last political blow that sent him on his journey to after life. MKO was promised heaven and earth by the north; they stripped him, smelt his rump and killed him.

Tinubu was used by the north to put down an emerging power block that was already changing the political equation that has been in favour of the north. They promised him to be figure heads, while he will be 'National Leader'. They are dealing with him now.

Enter Fashola the new poster boy of the north. They will use him to deal with Tinubu and promise him power and influence. When he begins to grow, they will deal with him too...

Ndi ofe will never learn.
The over-simplistic "Them against us" mentality you have is the mentality of the intellectually lazy. Politics is a never ending game of betrayal even among the "Us" and the "Thems" . I am from the west and I too am scared of Tinubu's umbriddled ambition and hunger for power as I am of Atiku's. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, they say. In the west too, Individuals have tried to curtail his power, some have succeeded while most have failed. He won't give up without a good fight, and as all gladiators in an arena he will either win or lose. That's the way the game goes. Every fighter will fighter his battle for the top spot, form alliances when necessary and with a mixure of genius and good fortune the winner will emerge. The art of choosing one's battles carefully is also very important. The weakness Tinubu has right now is that everyone knows the extent he can go to achieve his aims, and while that can work in his favor, for those who are much weaker than him, it also puts every strong rival on guard. Don't oversimplify a complex issue. Most people in politics follow leaders because they have weighed them and they find that they are no match for them in strength. If and when the can they would fight to take their place.

. Now all I wanna know is if this is a big deal or if I'm just overthinking it? sad
It depends on the location you both were, how long he hugged you, if he buried his head in the softness of your neck and smelled it for some time and you felt his growing e.r.e.c.t.ion against your tummy and then he looked into yours eyes and as you turned he slapped you in your butt. If all that happened you should be worried. If not, you are overthinking. Just go and read your books or something.

Many people don't have the time to study evolution in depth. For such people, it makes sense to simply accept it because scientists accept it.

Please read this blog post for some enlightenment: https://rarebible./2009/12/06/false-prophecies-of-jesus/ sad
What I see happening with evolution is the same thing that happened with religion. It's not really about studying in depth or not. It is about success. If successful people are associated with a thing, with time it catches on. With Islam it was trade and superior knowledge of warfare and literacy. With Christianity it was Literacy, route to a better life, fancy clothes and European type houses. Success will sell anything. Evolution to me is a probability stretched to the position of lab experiment type of fact. And it is not.

Christianity EtcRe: Advantages Of Atheism By An Atheist by WORLDPEACE(m): 1:14am On Sep 23, 2016
Lennycool:
Theist on this site have long often asked about the advantages of atheism to the individual and society at large. As an atheist my self I will try to elucidate on the pro's of atheism.
bear in mind atheism is the belief that no Deity exist, it is not a religious sect and does not have any guidelines for atheist to follow. So atheist are largely different and this is just my view.

1.) Atheism frees us from the shackles of superstition. Nigeria is a very superstitious country, even before the introduction of Christianity to our country, Early Nigerians had their own deities that they worshipped fervently. This deep seated superstition led to human sacrifices as well as the killing of twins and albinos in some part of the country. Today remnants of these superstition remain such as diagnosing an illness or non prosperity as the work of witches or wicked family members, but these days instead of consulting with a priest people now flood to churches for solutions. Being an atheist allows you to use your logical mind and remove all possibilities of the supernatural in your daily life, like Sherlock Holmes once said "Eliminate the impossible and whatever remains no matter how improbable must be correct", being an atheist allows people to look at things more critically and try to understand them more rather than hold onto to a supernatural explanation.

2.) Atheism allows you to care more about the earth and society at large: When you're an atheist an have completely done away with the possibility of a destined end for mankind or a euphoric or dystopian afterlife, you'll simply not accept the earth for better or worse but to try and change them. One of the reasons Nigeria is in such a disheveled state today is because people simply accept things as they are, rather than fighting against the system, most Nigerians are just waiting to die so they can inherit heaven, when a man no longer cares about the state of reality but is rather after an imaginary Paradise does that not spell dome for his nation. This belief that the earth is destined to end is another reason why global warming is not taken serious in most of the world, they accept it as the inevitable fate of man, rather than a result of human pollution. On the other hand if you don't believe in an afterlife or the devastating inevitable end of mankind, wouldn't you want to leave a lasting impression on the earth to make it better before you die?

3.) Atheism grants freedom : atheist don't believe that their destinies are predetermined by a deity, rather they take matters into their own hands, atheism frees you to be whoever you are meant to be and to enjoy this life. Most theist will now point out that this promotes immoral behaviour in the society, but I urge you to remember that nigeria is a deeply religious country but how has that helped us? Our leaders are corrupts we have kidnappers, terrorist, thieves and rapist. While counties that are either atheistic or don't value religion as much as we do are much better in these aspects.

4.) Atheism makes one a more tolerant individual: atheist by far discriminate less than their theist counterparts, mostly because they don't follow the guidelines written in a book thousands of years ago. Christians in America regularly used the bible to justify slavery and their racist behaviours towards black people, Islamic terrorist use their Qur'an to justify the chaos they cause. Both religion regard women as inferior, And largely hold the LGBT society in contempt. Theist will be quick to point that some atheist also hold extremist views but I'm sure a quick look at the statistics will tell you that theist outperform atheist in that category.

Closing remarks
A society that only cares about surviving till they die so they'll enter a fictional paradise will not do much to change the world around them. Nigeria must break free from the shackles that is religion if it must prosper and further enhance the world.
You can believe in the possibility of the existence of a God and still enjoy these advantages you listed. If you believe that there is a creator but he can't be bothered by our affairs you can be free from the shackles of superstition, care about the society, not believe that your destiny is predetermined by a diety and be tolerant.
