Why must every thread on Nairaland turn to Yoruba Vs Igbo tribal e-war?

Seun needs to find a way to regulate this forum to minimize this dangerous and silly features of Nairaland.
It's a sad reflection of a section of a generation that do not want to move forward. There are many important developmental issues to be discussed but they have refused to dwell on such.
The sad thing is that they grow with this mindset which continues to perpetuate hate and ethnicity.

See how patronising you sound. So UNN in Nsukka with its tons of only Igbo lecturers in many departments, is not turning into an ethnic-based university?
UI is on a pedestal higher than UNN which you should compare with OAU, UNILORIN, UNILAG etc. Even the FG knows UI is in a class of its own that is why it is the only federal university with the entire nation as its catchment area. This should also apply to the faculty also.

Throwback:
Yes he was made vice principal of the University College Ibadan ahead of the most senior African on the academic board and first ever Nigerian professor, Prof. Oladele Ajose.

Dike's appointment was facilitated by the Igbo dominated NCNC who had also installed Dr Akanu Ibiam who was the first Igbo doctor, as the School Council chairman. While Oladele Ajose was most senior and readily available at the school, Dike was called back from the USA where he was on an unfinished sabbatical, to come take a position (Vice Principal) he wasn't the most qualified for.

When the British eventually withdrew their administration of the school, Akanu Ibiam as School Council Chairman, further ensured that Kenneth Dike who was a fellow Igbo like him, became the first Nigerian principal of University College Ibadan. Professor Oladele Ajose realised that he was forever going to remain a victim of the NCNC and Igbo version of "merit" system that only found the Igbos qualified for positions that their better educated and more experienced Yoruba superiors did not qualify for. Ajose read the Igbo writing on the wall and moved to the Western Region owned University of Ife, to become its first principal.

Prof Kenneth Dike and Akanu Ibiam led school council would eventually go on to conduct recruitment into UI after the departure of the British. Out of 115 new hires, only 3 were Yorubas while the bulk of the remainder were from the Eastern Region.

That is how Igbos practice a merit based system.

The foolish Yorubas who were members of NCNC were never offered any sensitive position in the NPC/NCNC partnership of the first republic. Not even the Eastern minorities were offered critical positions.

All that was good that the Northerners could not occupy, the Azikiwe led NCNC ensured it went to the Eastern region, and ultimately to only the Igbos of that multi-ethnic Eastern Region.
For me, this is quite educative. Is there an documentary evidence of all these such as biographies, autobiographies, history books etc for me read.

May be this why UI today seems to be turning to an ethnic-based university with many departments having only Yoruba lecturers.

emmasege:
Registrar and Bursar are management staff just like Vice chancellors who don't join strike action. Academic staff in most universities have since taken over laboratory practicals. Remember there are usually junior lecturers assigned to oversee such practicals even when the technologists are around.

NASU, SSANU and NAAT have just told the nation how less important they are in the university setting. And I think it's time government considered downsizing them.

Just like some 'expired' academics, most of these non-academics are too old for the job and not relevant in the 21st century. In a nation where human population and number of unemployed are ever rising, it makes no sense that professors will retire @ the age of 70 and non-academics at 65. Not when many of these professors stopped being research-active in their 40s or 50s.

The entire university sector needs a complete overhaul and the retirement age of university staff needs a review, if our universities will get it right and if young and brilliant ones will be in the ivory towers.
Not just the university system need overhaul but the entire education system in this country.

It's a sad situation indeed. Even private schools employ people without qualifications to man kindagarten and nursery classes and you see these children struggling with English.

You captured it! I know a lot of people employed to teach English in public and private schools who do not have a qualification in English.
The erroneous belief that anybody who speaks English can teach it is one annoying cause why situations like this will not end.

Use either Kenya Airways or Ethiopian Airlines. Both are good. Kenya Airways is cheaper, and is a direct 4 1/2 hour flight to Niarobi, usually leaves around 12ish Nigerian time and arrives by 7 pm their time. Ethiopian Airlines is more expensive and transits through Addis, and you arrive around 2 am East Africa time, which is not convenient, so I usually take Kenya Airways to Nairobi instead of Ethiopian.
Thank you very much for this info.

Star Of David
Star of David also known as Shield of David or Seal of Solomon is a common symbol in Judaism. The symbol is Present in Isreal's national flag, defense forces flag and ambulances.

According to Jews "The six sided figure symbolizes that God rules over the universe and protects us from all six directions: north, south, east, west, up, and down with the middle - the hexagram - providing the spiritual dimension.
The Star of David symbol helps remind us that despite our efforts to accomplish in this world, just like God decided that King David would be successful in defeating armies much greater then his own, so too will God help us accomplish our goals."

Let's note that the Star of David has been appropriated by many ungodly groups as their emblem.
I have always wondered about its connection to health because it's splashed all over UCH, Ibadan.

From Effurun roundabout take vehicle to Ogbe-Ijoh market, ask for direction to the waterside, you'll see where speedboats load for Kurutie/Okerenkoko. There is an office where you pay.

Good advice. Also note:
1. Do not register for just any elective course- forget the fanciful name, you may just need to audit.
2. Do not keep to yourself- have a study group, most campus fellowship have.
3. Ask questions- not from the lecturers if your colleagues, especially the sharp ones, can give your answer.
4. Read, re-read your notes
5. Pray!!!
Health › Re: Formalin: Why You Should Reduce Eating Frozen Turkeys And Chickens by writeprof(m): 7:20pm On Feb 26, 2018
darocha1:
this is even fair enough. several years ago, i went to see my dad at his patrol station. They had seized a full truck of frozen turkey/chicken for over 3days and it was beginning to smell and pollute the checkpoint environment.
While they awaited order from HQ to burn the frozen food, the owners were also doing sone bribing at HQ to get back their goods.
Eventually, they got an order from above that the goods should be released. This made me curious cos it was smelling already and can't be consumed.
Behold, right in my presence there these people offloaded the truck, brought some sort of chemicals and other liquid stuff and began washing it. After the exercise, they repackage it into new cartons and loaded the truck.
Jeez! And someone will consume these poison. From that moment i swore never to take frozen anything. If if it's not life then not worth eating
You're very right. Especially now that many businesses are either cutting corners or reducing quality to survive the economic depression.
Many years ago we used to enjoy frozen fish called iced-fish and our local chickens taken from our poultry even as secondary students.
We all need to back to the basics- grow your vegetables and rear your chickens.

If he's such a hero how come most of us have never heard of him? Don't get me wrong, my point is, we should learn to celebrate our heroes when they are still alive (which actually benefits them more) than when they are dead, which is of no use to them.
sir, the one who writes the history largely determines who is a hero or villain.
At the same time, my eastern brothers do not really like having heroes, one thing I always use to quarrel with them for.
Federal Uni Oye Ekiti was named after Adebayo not Adekunle as I earlier said.
However, the drift of my talk is that I admire the Yorubas for seeking out heroes and honouring them alive till death. The Hausas do it also, waiting for the time the Igbos will start it in earnest.

Settle which boys. The government should settle community for bringing development to them. Isn't it pathetic. You are not talking about the jobs the project will create for people. Direct and indirect employment
Take time to read what I wrote. Did you see settle boys there? I said they settle every likely issue that could hinder the job and that is no sharing of money except it is compensation for people's land. The allocation of certain jobs/contracts to supply some materials to members of the community is part of settling issues.
