If you're so keen about learning French and in Lagos or Ibadan, I will suggest you enrol at Allianz Francais where you can rapidly acquire proficiency. Alright, let me drop the alphabets for you. The pronunciations are in parentheses: A (ah) B (bay) C (say) D (day) E (hay) F (ef) 3 Likes |

Bidexluv:Très bien. Just learnt that through translation o.Lol...I can't speak much of French myself, I'm only a bit better than a beginner. So, I can't be that "teacher" you crave for. However, the alphabets are very similar to the English alphabets except for the pronunciations. I'll post something on that for you tomorrow. |

Wow!!! Congratulations Op, I wish you all the best in your new gig as you charitably sow 250K into the life of a willing receiver. On a more serious note, did you apply to such position at Shell? When did you take their aptitude test? When did you attend an interview and medicals with Shell? Nobody should tell you this is a scam, a company of Shell's reputation would NEVER ask you to pay a dime to pick up a job. BE WISE!!! NB: If you feel like giving out 250K, I'm just a PM away. I will pray for you and your seven generations yet unborn will benefit from the prayers; in fact, I will prophesy into your life and you can trust it will be worth more than that "Shell job" 2 Likes |

Education / Re: Teacher, Don't Teach Me Nonsense - Confession Of A Rape Victim by wroskian(m): 4:24pm On Nov 25, 2016 |
When I initially saw the title and the name of the op of this thread, I was like but after reading through I am I'll be right back. *Modified* Nice job Amicable09, I love the way you satirically brought up this social problem. That Religious Knowledge teacher of yours should be spanked by seven hefty guys with each holding seven horse whips Honestly, the infiltration of perverts into an area as sensitive as the educational sector is heart-rending, this is in addition to the incompetence which the sector reeks of. I believe it is due to the kind of set-up we have in Nigeria. This is a country where anyone who fails to make it to the university due to low marks is advised to attend a college of education. While universities pegged their minimum entry score in UTME at 200/400, colleges of education willingly accepts anyone with 150/400 or even lower, how do we want to progress if the system doesn't attract the best minds? How will it attract best minds when the government is unserious and irresponsible? What will you say of a teacher who can't differentiate between "sex education and sexuality education?" What happens to our future when we have teachers who are morally damaged in our schools? These are questions begging for answers. While discussing with some guys who graduated from a popular college of education in Nigeria at a time, I was extremely shocked at the way they spoke about how their lecturers sleep with female students in exchange for marks and how male students pay their way through in cash. In my little way of thinking, I felt if everywhere should become corrupt, an institution like a college of education where teachers who would be in charge of young minds are being trained, should at least have lecturers with high moral standards compared to what is obtainable in other categories of degree awarding institutions; but I was wrong. Now, what should we expect from a teacher trained in such environment? Okay, I am not insinuating there are no hardworking and brilliant students attending colleges of education; in fact, there are also good teachers positively imparting students under their watch and doing well in their careers. I am only looking at the bigger picture as it affects us. I believe the way out of the current quagmire in the education sector is to make the teaching profession more attractive and entry more stringent. Apart from paper qualifications, there should be a way of assessing the personality traits of would-be teachers just as it is done in private companies outside the education sector. Private school owners should also step up their game. Make I rest here... 3 Likes 2 Shares |

SirDavico:You are welcome and please try out the tape recorder. As for passion, My Passion lies in Literature (Becoming a Novelist)You opted for science because you thought it would be more conducive for your condition, now the same condition is standing in your way. Who says you can't become a novelist even as a computer scientist? Who says you won't struggle in another department if you decide to change? You can become successful either as a computer scientist or novelist, It all boils down to your mindset and the kind of information you feed on; don't allow your situation to limit you Bro, instead let it motivate you. Do you know there were athletes with hearing impairments in Team USA at the last Rio Olympics? One of them is David Smith who in addition to playing volleyball has an engineering degree despite his severe hearing loss. Yes, the US is a more organized country that takes care of her citizens, but there are people in this same country without any form of disabilities who haven't achieved as much as this guy. So, pick yourself up and surround yourself with positive people. I wish you all the best. I've gone for hearing aids test. It didn't work. The emboldened could be traced to your hearing impairment. You can get podcasts on oral English or recorded speech and practice with them, it will be of great assistance. 1 Like 1 Share |

amicable09: One bottle of chilled something for you my sister, some people are unrepentantly insensitive to the plight of others. SirDavico, it is quite pathetic that our education system has failed to make provisions for students like you unlike what is obtainable in other climes. My advice: Don't quit, I believe your passion for Computer Science made you opt for it in the first place; so, let determination meet that passion. Since you are suffering from partial hearing loss, get a tape recorder to record the lectures for you to listen later and always ensure you get a seat directly in front of the lecturer whenever you have a class. Also, like someone earlier suggested, approach your HOD and explain your situation to him/her, something might just be done to assist you. CHEERS!!! 3 Likes 1 Share |

Education / Re: How I Scored 330 In The GRE Exam (Part 1) by wroskian(m): 12:49pm On Nov 22, 2016 |
Wow!!! nice one Obebs I like your determination. I think the reason a high percentage of international slots in American universities gets filled by asian guys is because most students who have the money prefer UK schools where the requirements could be easily met and of course due to the one year duration for a UK Masters. Even Canadian universities receive high applications from Africans because IELTS is easier to pass (in my opinion) compared to GRE. But, that's not saying we don't have guys who can smash GRE anytime any day with good preparation and determination, you just proved that Congratulations!!! You have a PM. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Flight07, you story sounds somehow. I can extract the following points though: 1. You have done so well on a job, the management had been praising you, but now they want to put you to "shame" because you solved a problem using unscientific means against the culture of the organization. - What method did you use that is scientifically unproven? Did you use juju? 2.They questioned your method and you became arrogant, using harsh words instead of finding a way of winning them to your side using the results you got as leverage. [b]- That is a bad attitude man. [b] 3. You don't want to resign because people would think you got fired. - What do you really want? I think there is more to what you put up there. Kindly provide us with the details especially with respect to the "scientific or no scientific wahala," and this time, kindly let it add up. Finally, to the thread topic, if you think you will be better-off as a bike rider, just quit your job and pursue your biking dream. GOODLUCK!!! 1 Like |
