Culture / Re: Hi Everyone, African American Going Home To MAMA AFRICA! by Wulfruna(f): 7:08am On Apr 26, 2016 |
Why not visit first and see if you like it before moving? I know lots of AAs who can't stand Nigeria. I also know a few who are really crazy about the place. A friend of mine has already been here three times in two years and says she'll love to move here. If you decide to move, I'll suggest a relatively quiet small city...like Enugu. (I love Enugu!) I've heard great things about Calabar, though I haven't been there myself. Abuja the capital is also a good choice. 4 Likes |
Culture / Re: Do I Look Like A Certain Tribe? by Wulfruna(f): 6:56am On Apr 26, 2016 |
That face could come from anywhere from Senegal to Nigeria to Mozambique. I know a lot of people swear they can tell 'tribe' (I prefer to say ethnicity) by looking at faces, but except for some ethnicities that live on the edge of the Sahara and who tend to have a tall, lanky, narrow-faced look and some Nilotic groups in South Sudan and Uganda who have very dark skin, I do not believe facial features are tribe-specific. Someone with your face could be Igbo. She could be Yoruba. She could even be Zulu. 2 Likes |

Culture / Re: Somali Men Appreciation Thread by Wulfruna(f): 9:36am On Apr 23, 2016 |
Somguy: On this I agree. There are quite a good number of West Africans who obsess over women from the Horn, and women of mixed-race background. It is as shameful as it is annoying. There was one here a few years ago who literally begged the Somali troll to hook him up. I gave him a piece of my mind though. You look at music videos and all these black artistes (Nigerian artistes, as well) want to do is fill up everywhere with women that have a particular look - light skin, straight nose, soft hair. It's like a mental illness. My mum is part-German and I get her looks, and as much as I want to protect my Nigerian brothers, the level of attention I get from them just for looking the way I do sometimes just sickens me. Yes, it is a problem. I can't fault you on that. 3 Likes |
Culture / Re: Somali Men Appreciation Thread by Wulfruna(f): 8:43am On Apr 23, 2016 |
Somguy, I think you are basically a good person. But you may be whining a bit here, to be honest. You are miffed about Somali women being called desperate, and Somali men bring called ugly and effeminate. But here is the truth, and I believe I have already said this on another thread: Nigerians were not attacking Somalis (Nigerians on this forum hardly even took notice of the Somali people) before the troll came here and just started insulting Nigerians for absolutely NO reason. Here is a list of a FEW of the things we've been called: 1. Slaves 2. Ugly monkeys and apes 3. Primitive, culture-less and without history 4. Our women are wh.ores 5. Our women look like men. 6. We are unintelligent. 7. We eat every vile thing on the face of the earth. The list is endless. Every kind of insult you can think of has been hurled at us. We were on our own, on our forum, minding our business, and your countryman just came here and started hurling insults all around, posting selected pictures of ugly people (yes, those pictures you posted, the Somali troll has already used them and more, and all the points you made on this post have already been made by him in a gazillion posts - so congratulations for sounding just like him). What Nigerians have been doing here is merely clapping back - something I'm VERY sure you, too, will do if a Nigerian shows up on Somalinet to insult your people. Why you want to whine about that and create a thread with an endless cascade of pictures of good-looking Horn people (again, the Somali troll has already shown us like 60% of those pictures), I don't understand. Are you telling Nigerians to keep quiet in the face of unprovoked insults? Please answer this question. 7 Likes |
Culture / Re: Gender Equality Gone Too Far? Check This Out by Wulfruna(f): 7:50pm On Apr 22, 2016 |
This is not about gender equality. I can assure you that women are not dying to acquire male urinary organs. If you've ever been on a bus travelling a long distance and had to stop for a woman in trousers to ease herself, you'll understand. But I think this particular 'invention' has many flaws and will probably not work very well. 3 Likes |

Please, has anyone done the PLI without encountering any difficulty? Tried this evening, and after the first page, the thing just wouldn't work. I had to end it without submitting, because I didn't see the point of submitting just 5 questions. They sent me a re-invite though, but I'm scared of encountering the same problem again, so I haven't tried it yet. |

Lawani, he didn't describe himself as Igbo. He didn't describe himself as Ijaw. It would be anachronistic if he had used either of those terms to describe himself in 19th century Eastern Niger Delta. You people need to learn how some ethnic terms like 'Igbo', 'Ijaw', etc were used in this country before the 20th century and stop repeating these mistakes. 2 Likes |

olaitoro: Are you sure you are Yoruba? Anyway, I can envisage somebody who has Igbo (or non-Yoruba, it doesn't have to be Igbo) maternal roots becoming an Oba in Yorubaland, but someone whose father is not Yoruba? Forget it. Never gonna happen. Ours (by 'ours' I mean most of Nigeria) is a paternal-based society. |

emperorgoke: Er...Voodoo has no connection to Haile Selassie. Voodoo (vodun) came from the Fon people of Benin Republic. I'm not necessarily saying Haile Selassie was not a remarkable ruler; I'm only saying there were Ethiopian Emperors who were more remarkable than him. What are his achievements, really? The Italians took his country from him and he ran to the League of Nations to complain. (The same Italians that Menelik II defeated before his time). In his old age, small boys in the army overthrew him in a coup and placed him under house arrest and (probably) murdered him. The fact that a cult in Jamaica who held Ethiopia in high regard accorded him the status of a god is, from the standpoint of a political historian, of very little consequence. |

emperorgoke: If I want to put an Ethiopian emperor there, I will go for Menelik II before Haile Selassie. Menelik led his country to defeat the Europeans and preserved his country's independence at a time the rest of Africa was falling under European colonial rule. What is Haile Selassie's legacy, besides being mistaken for a god by misguided Rastafarians? |
