Personally, i feel the truth lies somewhere between what Mazi Kanu claims and the claim that Buhari has never been replaced by a body-double! I know the desperation of the northern hegemonic oligarchs to retain power and not allow a repeat of the Yar Adua incident when they lost their grip on power and rued the day they agreed to go along with the choice of the willy OBJ in selecting the next Fulani president!

I believe that at some point Buhari may have been switched with a body double...and but for the fact that they got lucky and their lord and master somewhat recovered....but for this fact, they were prepared to stick with ‘Jubrin from Sudan’ and ride it out till 2019! Chances are that if the British had stayed till the 80s, this forum would have less than 50 members, as we'd all be illiterate farmers, hunters, and herdsmen, given the fact that the colonialists invested next to nothing on education. People like you need to use your brain, and go and research the colonial period, and what actually led to people like Awo, Zik, Enahoro and others, to fight the British and demand independence.

At independence, the things we all take for granted today, cars, shoes, fine clothes, modern amenities, electricity, electronics, etc were JUST FOR THE VERY FEW RICH. The majority of Nigerians were suffering village peasants with no hope for a better life and no education. Be THANKFUL for the independence we got, which saw the immediate building of thousands of schools and vital infrastructure across the entire country, by black govts. Even our first major power plant, Kainji Dam, was built after independence, by the Balewa govt.

People need to study what colonial rule means, and why a nation would leave its shores to establish rulership over another nation thousands of miles away. It is NEVER for the benefit of the latter. It is always for the purposes of EXPLOITATION. Evacuating your resources, selling them, and retaining the export earnings for their country.

So calling for your colonizer to rule over you for longer is really the height of tomfoolery and ignorance.

I've read your submission, and still think the Brits should have left in the 80s.....in the modern era, when respect for fundamental human rights and human dignity were becoming more entrenched than it was in the 60s. I'm looking at this issue first and foremost from the viewpoint of an Igbo man in present day Nigeria! At no time did i say that colonialism wasn't bad or that self-rule wasn't better.

There's something you guys don't understand.....the status of Igbos in Nigeria today is no better than it was during the colonial era. The only difference was that during the colonial era, we were oppressed and exploited by the white man; today however, under our pseudo independence, the race of our oppressors has changed from white Brit to Fulani.....Fulani, ably assisted by a few greedy efulefus and house-niggers from the south (including Igboland unfortunately).

The funny thing about this statement is that if you remove Britain and replace it with Fulani, it still holds true in relation to Ndigbo and Alaigbo!

You talk of the Brits being so evil and all that. Well, they're foreigners...from a different race and continent altogether. I don't expect them to empathise with my situation. However, when a so called 'fellow compatriot'....a 'fellow black' treats me with the same level of hate and contempt as the white coloniser (if not worse), on what basis then do you expect me to be hankering for 'independence' so i can live with this oppressor alone, with no third party to help limit his excesses?

[b] Igbos have been murdered in their millions by the Fulani ran federal gov't; we have been targeted in the north more times than i care to remember when these fellow compatriots northerners feel the need to vent their anger on some 'pesky infidel'; we've been cheated (whether by omission or commission) and ganged up against when it comes to picking the president or head of state of Nigeria (no Igbo has ruled Nigeria since Ironsi, while ethnic groups like the Fulani have had more than their fairshare and are poised to have another go in 2023); Alaigbo has been balkanised and reduced to about 2/3 of it's size just so we don't get to benefit from the natural resources God in his infinite wisdom has blessed us with....our own blood have been encouraged, bribed and even cajoled to abandon their Igbo heritage for the same reason; Alaigbo has been cheated in the distribution of resources, contracts and development.....a disproportionate amount of said resources and efforts is directed towards Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, Kano and Zaria, and this is turn has left our youth and job seekers to emigrate to these places to look for jobs and to earn a living....with the attendant insults that go with it; Ndigbo have been prevented from exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right to vote and be voted for in any part of 'one Nigeria' they so choose...and a recent example of this is what happened in Lagos recently when a god father that believes Lagos belongs to him and his ethnicity sponsored thugs to go and scatter the voting process in Igbo dominated areas of the city; Igbo businesses have been and are being frustrated out of pure hate and bigotry (a recent example of this is the trade fair debacle in Lagos), while others from the 'anointed' ethnic groups are giving all sorts or support and waivers, and in some cases encouraged to monopolise certain sectors; Igbo children are given higher/harder conditions to meet for entry into gov't schools, all because they are said to be brighter than others (as if that's now a crime instead of something that should be celebrated and encouraged); there are some arms of gov't, federal owned institutions and parastatals whose headship is reserved mainly for the 'anointed' ethnic groups, and you hardly see a Igbo man or woman heading them (you know no Igbo man has ever been minster of the FCT?); and i could go on and on! My saying that the Brits should have stayed a little while longer before leaving to assist all regions/ethnicities settle in...this in no way implies that i feel colonialism is better than self-rule. But when self-rule is of the kind Ndigbo have faced in 'one Nigeria'...that has led to bloodshed and the decimation of our fortunes, i think i'll take the Brits oppression over that of the local one any day!

If the British truely left, they wouldn’t have massively intervened in the civil war which biafrans were winning in the initial stages of the war.

They only left on paper.

People have to watch some historical documentaries to realize that it was America that forced them to let go of their colonies. If it wasn’t that they could have stay and continued their full blown exploitation.

They took raw materials free of charge from us to the UK for 80 years. That’s probably over 200 billion of dollars in today’s money.

The infrastructure they built was mostly for themselves and exporting raw materials.

Well, it's not like i'm 'glorifying colonial rule' as you put it. Just being pragmatic about the whole thing....choosing the lesser of two evils, and weighing the situation of Ndigbo during colonial rule vis-a-vis what we have today in a purportedly 'independent and democratic' Nigeria. What i'm saying is that i'd rather the British stayed till at least the 80s to help save us from ourselves, than leave on 1st oct' 1960 and hand a fractured and divided Nigeria (b'cos that's exactly what Nigeria was, no matter how we try to gloss over it) over to a bunch of bickering, insecure, bigoted and ill-prepared so called 'founding-fathers' and 'heroes past'!

It's just the greedy leaders we had during independence who wanted to take over the privileges and material benefits from the white man that they had been watching and envying for decades! Some were genuinely able and had the burning desire to manage the affairs of the newly emergent nation, but they were overwhelmed and outnumbered by the greedy, tribalistic and visionless ones. Not to mention the fact that Nigeria was starting the journey of independence with a huge handicap of schisms, antagonisms and mistrust between its component units.

Personally, i wish the British had stayed to at least the 80s, to help save us from ourselves.....or alternatively, broken up Nigeria so we could all go our separate ways on 1st oct' 1960.
