mrvitalis:You still don't get it. Check my pervious post. I said without the number of incidents compared with population, you cannot make a claim that a region that a region is safer than another. I don't want to go into the complexity of deriving representative data from smaller sample. Now, let us both agree that the NBS has the raw data including the total number of incidents. Do you have access to such data? If no, why is the fact that the data exists relevant to the discussion since it was not made public? Unless you have the data, please share if you do. The NBS publicly released result is useless for determining the safety or lack of it of the various regions. I see that you didn't even bother to acknowledge that you were wrong about deriving total from average. |
“Former President Buhari is personally not the owner of the said plot of land, which is allocated in the name of a ‘Muhammadu Buhari Foundation.Since Buhari is not the owner, why is Garba telling us whether it was acquired legally or illegally? It is not today that politicians use fronts to acquire dubious properties, Garba likely to be the one. A large section of Abuja lands were illegally allocated to political cronies who didn't pay a dime while an ordinary Nigerians is billed tens of millions for the same land. On this, Wike is doing a great job. You either pay up or lose the land to Wike. |
mrvitalis:I see where your confusion comes from. It is common with laymen trying to simplify statistics. Total amount spent and average amount spent was released. Note the word in bold. You have no idea how much a random person from the sample actually paid. I shouldn't be doing this but here is how it works in case of other readers. For instance, a rich chief could have paid 100 million Naira for his release, while a farmer paid 1 million after contribution from family members. Their average is 50.5 million. The funny thing, none of them paid anything close to the average. If the average salary of a company worker is 100K, it doesn't mean all the workers earn 100K each. No. Some workers could be earning 1 million while others 20K per month. That should be clear enough. So you cannot use average and total to get the original number of samples(kidnap incidents in this case). We have not brushed the fact that the reported "Total" itself is a sample of the actual numbers since not every victim will make a report. So u can use this two to calculate number of incident per capita? ....No, you can't as I explained above. Didn't you do word problem in secondary school?Even your secondary teacher, even if they had a college degree is likely the inferential statistics here. It may be confusing finding out that the stats interpretation you surely think you knew from secondary school is actually garbage. Don't beat yourself up, even PhDs do struggle with statistics. Again do you understand what the above meansStop embarrassing yourself with this nonsensical questions. It would have made sense if you know what you are talking about but just like the "average person", you have absolutely no idea. |
mrvitalis:I understand much better than you can imagine. Here is a fact. Average amount paid per incident has nothing to do with a region's safety. Logically explain if you disagree. I doubt any of the victims will feel safer by learning that other regions pay higher. The only measure of safety is number of incidents per capita which was never released. Again, if you disagree with this, explain your reasoning. |
Don't start what you can't finish. I assure the other sides have more colorfully distasteful but factual banners that they can print. The only issue is that the writer will claim "blasphemy" should everybody decide to tow the Lagos mosque line. Yes, the Lagos mosque banner is actually a blasphemy to the other side's faith. |
Crowdboom:Yes, they can. The governor pocket his with nobody complaining. |
South east did not reduce kidnapping. Kidnapping is actually on the rise. Neither is it the safest region. The infographic posted by the OP say no such thing. Even if we assume the raw numbers are lower. Like others, the OP doesn't understand how safety is measured. It is measured per capita, that is population, and not by raw numbers. A city of 1 million with 10 murders is definitely safer than one of 500K residents with 6 murders even though the latter has lower numbers. |
Topman7:No, it has nothing to do with state police. Lagos governors and many other states have been doing this for decades now. Lagos has its own "state" police different from the FG's. |
Only Wike can save him from such condition. But it seems they have no serious political relationship. |
Mindlog:It doesn't really matter. He is hoping that the legal fight will take very long to resolve and before then he could have achieved his aim. What many don't understand is that the AGF's statement carries no weight, it cannot reverse the decision the governor already made. The worst the FG can do is to restrict the Local government allocations which I doubt they will do until the issue is resolved. As long as the stupid trap game continues, some governors will always violate the rule. A governor will refuse to conduct elections for first 3 years, when elections is approaching, they will conduct one so that should they or their anointed lose, the chairmen could help them fight future political battles. See Fubara vs Wike case. A real solution will involve constitutional amendments so that local elections is conducted by INEC at every fix interval like the governorship, no caretaker chairman or exco nonsense. If INEC can't be drafted in, then no allocations should be given to any state where there are no elected chairmen. |
Adblg0610:You must think we are kids. They were all removed constitutionally, assuming you understand what that means. In short, it is impossible to unconstitutionally remove a state governor. Just like the president only a coup can remove a governor unconstitutionally. |
@OP You are very confused. Each society solves its own problems with the resources it has and not hypotheticals. Unless a country wins a natural lottery based on resources and a complementary low population, development is always gradual not spontaneous. At some point, the open gutters will be covered too. |
Bede2u:Ecowas doesn't need to meet any targets whatsoever to have a unified currency. If all the members agree today, we can have the ECO currency tomorrow. This is a basic knowledge for any informed person, let alone an economist. As bad as naira is currently valued, it is still way higher than Indonesian rupee despite Indonesia being a larger and more stable economy. Here is pre-economics 101. You see a person earning 1 million Naira per month has the option to spend 50K per month or upgrade to 500K per month, but a person earning 30K per month have no option to upgrade above 30K without significant and crushing borrowing. That is the case with strong vs weak economics and who has the capacity to devalue or revalue at will. Our naira was stronger than the dollar in 1980, then IMF suggested we start devaluing it because it's value was inflated. Question, why didn't imf suggest to the British to devalue the nigerian pound when the British were incharge, considering that our economy in 1980 was way larger than our economy under British rule. Our Naira can be stronger than the dollar today should the government be ready to do it. quote] I see a few people quoting me to tell me China deliberately devalues its currency. Well that is exactly the point of my post. That currency valuation is more politics than economics. Do you get it now?[/quote]No. It is you who don't get it. Currency valuation is 100% economics, the fact that a country does opposite of what another did based on economic power or lack thereof doesn't imply politics. There is no omnipotent god of economics that dictates how a nations currency should be valued, don't confuse IMF advise for order. IMF is a bank and it always advise, countries, which are mostly ignored unless for those in financial problems and desperately need to borrow. Moreover, economics is not a real science, a country can run it however it likes as long as it is satisfied with the results. Suppose you reduce the price of your goods in order to sell more than your competitors, are you playing politics or are you making an economic decision? By your logic, a person who buys a Tecno because they can't afford iPhone is playing politics. While a person who can afford iPhone but chooses Google Pixel must be playing politics too. The only way your submission makes sense is if the meaning of the word "politics" has changed. |
ThunderfireNLMO:Kindly detail how the judges were bribed. The amount, time, the giver and the recipient of the bribes. Remember, this is not a beer parlor were anything goes. I am waiting. |

emmabest2000:Nonsense. Nigerians have owned crypto even before Trump could dream of it. |
alanto:See this one. Do you even consider yourself yourself to be a black person? I have seen some of your posts here and they are filled with biles against other "blacks" that you now feel need defending against "whites". An ignoramus suggests that Nigeria rejects foreign investment and I responded. Instead of you to logically explain why such rejection would be great for Nigeria you resort to cheap emotional rants. If you are still waiting for some compensation for losing some wars centuries ago, you will wait forever. It is even more improbable now that the "globalist" liberal philosophy which promoted such idea is dying rapidly in the west. Dont bother replying unless you want to engage with facts and logic, not sentiments. |
obailala:Philosophy here we go. Even on individual level, a person has the right to cut off another person from their resources even when a third party is involved. There is no right to other nations's resources or influence. Even marxists aren't that extreme on international level. Why should a sovereign country have the right to even sanction other sovereign countries, to the point of bullying other sovereign independent countries into comforming to the rules they set?It is not bullying. Azman air/Nigeria should have gone to buy planes from Russia or China using Yuan or Naira and then deliver them to Iran. You can't go and buy a European made plane, sign the necessary contracts prohibiting its sales to particular countries and then turn around to claim bullying when caught secretly violating your contract. That no one thinks there's a flaw in this system, that is the basis of my confusion which I talked about in my earlier comment. What "system" are you talking about? Unless you can logically articulate why country A should have a right to whatever they want from country B whenever they want it, yes, that is your position when taken to a logical conclusion, then the "system" is just. If you don't want to do business with an entity for example, it is wrong for a third-party to be fronting for such entity. |
Most likely an inside job from KGB. Using homemade bombs that can't be traced to anybody. |
BigDawsNet:To do what exactly? Please answer with facts and logic and not sentiments. |
Chid2:Again, the job of a lawyer is to defend their client. If a lawyer refuses a job due to "morality", that is a personal decision and not a professional one. It is not for you to decide what is an injustice, that is the job of the court. Where it is up to you, you have mob rule or jungle justice. Mind you, same Olanipekun saved the Governor Abba of Kano after Ganduje have perfected a judicial ambush of an election the APC lost. The job of the court is not to sanction your personal political preferences. If you cannot present your evidence in court, then you are totally. You should blame your principal for hiring an outclassed lawyer. Before you retort with "corruption" as usual, where was the corruption when the same lawyer was winning other top cases? He was simply out of his league or confused. It was shameful seeing semi-literates social influencer directing court cases. It was as if the lawyers were taking instruction from media noises instead of using their experience to pursue the case. If your principal had hired Wole, even if he loses, he would have lost with dignity and at least prove some wrongdoing even if not enough to overturn the result. Imagine your candidate's lawyers not being able to prove that the result of even one local government was manipulated. We expected them to state with conviction that their clients won by X number of votes after correcting for "rigging" but they never did that. Instead, they were busy running after charade of 25% in FCT, the legality of Tinubu's candidacy etc when we all know the court will never overturn a presidential results due to technicalities. Even baby lawyers know that such technicalities is best used to defend ones current position and not to overturn the status quo. |
Quintessence44:What a load of crap. Those foreign leaders didn't come to Nigeria to beg for investment from Nigeria. No, they want to bring their own money. Fortunately, no Nigerian president will be foolish as to reject foreign investment, sentiments or no sentiments. Interestingly, it is people like you that will get her elected. The more publicity she gets, negative or positive, the greater her political profile. It is the same strategy used by Trump. |
obiekunie01:He did his job as a lawyer to defend his client. That is what lawyers do even if the client is a killer or armed robber. It is not his job to help your side win their case. Blame your lawyer and not the opponent's. |
Okay. |
obailala:Because Nigeria does not own a plane! Azman air bought a plane from a country which has sanctioned Iran and then delivered the plane to Iran, essentially Azman air has turn itself into a smuggling business. Azman lied in its purchase contract. In short, it is illegal to help Iran facilitate any deal that involve the US dollar or Euro. Now, Azman air is essentially a dead airline because it will never be allowed to buy western Aircraft or spare parts again. Now, how does this concern Nigeria? If Azman air is culpable and the authority does nothing about it, it could be assumed that the Nigerian state secretly backs such deal and thus all our airlines could become target of various sanctions which will be very bad for our growing airline industry in terms of aircraft or parts procurement. Personally, I think Iran should be on Nigeria's blacklist for backing subversive movement like Zakzaky's and smuggling arms to non-state actors in Nigeria. |
DesChyko:I again, you have shown total lack of decorum. Police do not abduct, they arrest. It is even more inappropriate to claim a person who refused three court summons was abducted by the constitutionally created police force. I notice many of you guys love to throw words around like abduct, kidnap or even invade when law enforcement agencies are doing their legally assigned job. No, while such emotive deception might convince largely illiterate, it doesn't work on well-informed people. I certainly won't expect unreasonable abduction to be thrown into the mixYou seems to be confuse here. Who hired who? Your hero was arrested for making unsubstantiated allegations in a book. I suppose there is a reasonable form of abduction? There is a Federal High Court in Lagos if the IG needed to sue ![]() Now, I see where the problem lies. You have zero idea of how the legal system works. IG did not sue because the IG is not even a party in the book. The police charged Dele for a crime in a court with jurisdiction same as they do a thief or a kidnapper. The suspect don't get to choose their preferred court as long as their is jurisdiction. |
cryptmod:A critique deals with true state of things and not imaginations. His remarks about the judiciary, and the individuals involved, are based on actual events and public records. The purpose was not to attack any individual but to bring attention to systemic issues that have real-world consequences. Many fictions are based on actual events and public records. But they are still fictions. |
gibekure:You have not read the book, I am certain of it. If I am wrong, present your unbiased review. Just like many Nigerians, when you hear the word "corrupt", you throw away rational thinking and assume a war mode. |
Topman7:Americans voted "happily" for a convicted felon, rapist and a fraudster. Most people who voted for him know that is who he is but they don't care because they think the other side don't care about immigration and they don't want "establishment". In fact, the more unstable he looks and acts, the more his supporters love him. The old west of civil behaviors from politicians is largely dead and gone. In fact, I won't be surprised if internal polls are suggesting that she increase her attack tempo on Nigerians and you guys are simply helping her political career by attacking her in response. After all, Trump won his first time by by ceaselessly attacking Mexicans. Currently, a more extremist party is gaining ground rapidly in the UK and you think Kemi's character will matter when many voters think the future of the country is at stake? |
Warn them. Social media is not beer parlor where you can say whatever you want. Granted, if you are a nobody, there is likely to be zero consequence to whatever you say. But if you are unlucky and your allegations go viral, then only evidence can save you. |
VBCampaign:The evidence doesn't exist. Mind you, there is what is considered an admissible evidence in any country with civil judiciary. Hearsay like: I heard from Mr. B that Mr. A did it is not an evidence unless you can get Mr. A to give credible testimony on your behalf. Dele has won many cases for his clients under the same "criminal judiciary". I am wondering how he won and how much he must have paid in bribe to get such favorable judgments. Interestingly, he never talked about those instances where he won. Only when he loses does he conclude that his opponents must have bribed judges. |
