brain54:Bush boy. She is speaking as a lawmaker and not a woman. |
DesChyko:It depends on your idea of "fair chance". Even if they won't let you prove it in court, you can throw the evidence into the public domain. And don't talk about being gagged, if you are bold enough to make specific allegation about a person in public, you shouldn't be too timid to release the accompanying evidence to the public too. No need hiding such evidence if indeed the aim of the expose is to sanitize the system. |
Useless Iranian agent. If a Nigerian were to setup a subsersive movement in Iran, such person will be executed promptly but this idiot is allowed to roam freely threatening societal peace. The army is wrong in going after the brainwashed members who don't know any better. This man should be the one being remembered after a death sentence and not his gullible followers. |
This people don't get it. Farotimi wasn't the first to claim that the Nigeria judiciary is corrupt. In fact, I don't think you can find a single Nigeria that would claim otherwise. But Dele is not on trial for stating that the Nigerian judiciary is corrupt but for assuming that the opponent he lost a case to must have bribed judges. He even went further by stating the names of the alleged bribe givers and receivers even though he has zero evidence other than the fact that he lost a land legal tussle. |
Interesting. So fighting a defamer now makes someone a narcissist. Until we begin to mention names and point accusing fingers at specific people, the issues will remain intractableDon't let this author deceive you. She has been writing articles for years and have never specifically mentioned a name or point accusing fingers at people. Before you mention names and point fingers, make sure you are absolutely sure of what you are saying and there is evidence to back it up. Otherwise, you will find yourself in a very deep mess that no social media noise can dig you from. |
MossadAgent:Why are you hyperventilating? Is Assad your family member? |
hmm |
plaetton:I haven't read this kind of bunkum in a long while ![]() You see if you report a theft. Yes, you are the aggrieved but when the thief is apprehended, it is not a case between you and the thief. It is the Nigerian police vs the thief. In fact, you are not needed anymore if there are sufficient independent evidence of the theft to back the prosecution. If you later found out that it was your friend who did it. You will have a hard time saving your friend from prison if the police are especially interested in the case. I don't blame you though, being exposed to the internet echo chambers make many of you assume full knowledge of what you know little about. Also, the fact that Nigerian factor often get criminals illegally discharged may have Repeat this three time. This is not a civil case between 2 parties. It is a criminal defamation case between the Nigerian police and Dele Farotimi. Next time you are in your brainwashing echo chambers take note of the fact. As to the Ekiti influence. Even if Dele is convicted over there, he will have a chance to appeal the judgment outside of Ekiti where he can present the evidence he allegedly possess. |
gabbytabby:I don't get you. This isn't a case of saints vs sinners. It is a case of a plaintiff vs a liar. Yes, when you make serious and specific accusations without evidence, it is simply a lie. |
Ikpunekenwa:Because Dele violated federal law against criminal defamation. |
sreamsense:Nope. It is not power that make those people convert to worshipping the Jesus idol. It is brainwashing and use of social influence coupled with the fact that the worshippers were never organized , many times at logger heads and mostly illiterates. Ogun lakaaye and sango could not harm true followers of Christ as many converts from idol worshippers to Jesus followers burnt their idols to ashes and threw many into rivers and run to Jesus for protection.Nope, as I said, that is the result of brainwashing not power. If it is just about power, Northern Nigeria should be mostly christians by now but it isn't because the British missionaries stood no chance against an organized, united and literate religion. |
Another incompetent charge and bail lawyer. Dele is not being charged for saying Afe has excessive influence over the police and judiciary. He is being charged for claiming that Afe bribed specific judges in a specific case at a specific time. Even if his story is true, it is entirely irrelevant to Dele's case. As to those who would angry for calling the lawyer, charge and bail. Going by his own narration, he is shamelessly incompetent and a bad lawyer to the woman. No smart lawyer will give up because somebody uses police influence. At most, police influence are temporary succor when a good lawyer is involved. A smart and competent lawyer would have gotten justice for his client by going on the offensive. The first thing to do is to get an injunction barring the police from ever arresting the wife while the custody case is on. The second one which he missed is seeking a contempt of court proceeding against the husband for failing to show up for a court summon. In fact, that would have been a good way to proof how irresponsible the man is as a person. The third is to get temporary custody of the children for the woman while the case is on. There is no way husband can convince the courts that he can take care of three children while working in a university when he couldn't even attend a mandatory court session because of the same work. But the lawyer caved immediately a name was dropped for him and chose to blame the "system" instead. SMH |
plaetton:Chai, so many ignorant posts. The case is between the Federal Nigerian police vs Dele and not Ekiti state government vs Dele Rotimi. What you call a misdemeanor actually carries up to 2 years imprisonment. The complainant can in addition can sue for damages if he so wishes after the criminal case is concluded, conviction or no conviction. Even if there is a law in Ekiti that states that publishers of libelous article should be rewarded with money, such a hypothetical law won't save Dele from federal crime prosecution. Don't let those online deceive you. |
Agunesinjaweola:If you believe in "justice" not jungle or mob justice, then you must also believe in evidence. Dele has no shred of evidence other than his fictional narrative prowess. Or should we just pack all the elites into a house and set it on fire to ensure "justice"? |
LegendHero:Nope. It wasn't #700 that was the parallel rate. The dollar was around #400 officially. Yes, one of those Emefiele's friend built a $20 billion dollar refinery using exchange rate that is practically non-existent according to you. Whatever exchange rate used in running the government's budget is the official regardless of what black market says. I hope you haven't forgotten when the Naira fell from 1800 to 900 after the Binance/crypto noise? You remembered how you and Onanuga celebrated the geniuses who allegedly solved the problem? Well, it was short-lived as predicted then as this phase would turn out too. There are very few ways to permanently strengthen the Naira and it does not include threatening speculators every three months. |
smallsmall:Don't be clever by half. If I say Nigerian politicians embezzle public funds. That's too broad a statement to apply to anyone. In fact, only a fool would sue for such statement. But If I claim that politician ABC of Lagos stole 1 billion Naira that is meant to feed the poor for the month of January and invest the money in properties, that is a specific allegation. If it is true, then that is alarming and deserves investigation. However, if I have no evidence or it is a lie, then that is pure defamation and deserve any legal repercussion the target choose to follow. Dele didn't just say Nigerian judiciary system is corrupt. He claimed Afe bribed specifically named judges to secure favorable judgment. It would have been great if he had evidence, but he doesn't, he merely concoct the story because he lost a case while defending some land grabbers against Afe law firm. |
Atiku will hand over the 2027 mandate to Tinubu on a platter of gold by splitting opposition votes once again. Because age is not on his side, he wants to contest in 2027 by all means. SMH |
huptin:Liars have no courage just self-delusion. |
psucc:What many don't understand is that it is not a civil suit. It is "criminal defamation", so police involvement was the only logical move. Dele was merely playing to the gallery with the arrest video. There was a bench warrant against him because he refused to honor the police and court's invitation claiming that he lives in Lagos and cannot be tried in Ekiti. And he is a lawyer that should know better. In fact, he can be charged in US or China since his medium of defamation, Amazon, is a global platform. |
veraponpo:None of what you listed have been done. None. I don't blame you though, like many, you were deceived by spurious headlines. |
BigkokoRep:Another one. What happened to you 25 percent in Abuja guaranteed plan? What happened to your illegal rendition of Kanu cries? There are only 2 ways for a mob to win, either being on the right side of the law or starting and winning a war. Unless you are prepared to do the latter, since he is on the wrong side of the law, for Dele, he is legally a goner. Noise and cries won't change anything. As for reputation. There are three reputations people who can afford a lawyer considers, the law firm's competence, track record and relationship with judges. Even in your imaginary saner clime, that's how lawyers are hired, not the number of insults you have hurled at judges. So, you see the case will actually boost Afe's legal practice' reputation and rank to people that can afford him. |
psucc:The "renown" legal practitioner is speaking for himself. When you accuse a person of stealing $10,000 from house "A" for example. It doesn't matter if they have stolen 1 million dollars from house B some years back. If you cannot prove the allegation of $10000 stolen from house "A", you are goner either through civil liability or criminal prosecution. Many of you think the complainant must be a100% saint in all areas of their life, otherwise, there is no defamation. You are so wrong that I can't even describe it. When it comes to the issue of law, common sense and selective morality won't save you. |
Firstcitizen:The failed Libya states is where many of your contemporaries are rushing to either settle down or move onward to Europe. An average Libyan is four times richer than a Nigerian per capita basis. Yes, it is controlled by factions but there are no bandits kidnapping hundreds of Libyans per operation. Moreover, with the fall of Assad, there is a chance for Libya to attain unity since Putin's puppet, Haftar will be weakened in the long run. |
Focusmind:Nope. Refugees from Libya aren't flooding Europe. So, don't expect any mass exodus of Syrians. In fact, many will return home. |
Princedapace:Did you miss the part where Russia has the largest nukes in the world and missiles to deliver them? Putin and Gadaffi issue are wide apart(external vs internal issue) if you understand geopolitics. Let us even assume they are similar why would NATO invade a nuclear armed state when their is nothing to be gained by such invasion and risk the lives of millions? If Gadaffi had nukes and missiles, he will still be alive and kicking. |
IgOga:The question is whether the barbarians can match Assad killing figures(more than 500K). I would wait till the dust settles and see who won the internal power struggle before condemning the rebels. |
BiafranPatriot:You sound dull. Is it ESN that can't protect itself from Fulani attacks that anybody will call to help Don't take my word for it, ask your brothers on ground the havoc the herdsmen are wrecking that doesn't make the news. |
If only Hamas did not carry out Oct. 7 attack, Hezbollah did not join in the fray and Russia did not invade Ukraine. Assad will still be standing. See how three uncoordinated event led to a few days victory for a 14 years long civil war. |
This must be fake news. Putin never backs down. |
BluntCrazeMan:Why do you guys always skip section 299 of the constitution? I don't think there is anything more explicit and need no interpretation. Let me help you with an excerpt: "The provisions of this Constitution shall apply to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja as if it were one of the States of the Federation." It doesn't matter if there are a billion ands in the constitution, each "AND" is subject to interpretation based on context and the overall spirit of the law. Even going by your logic of "equality", every and you listed actually treated all states equally. There is no plae where Abuja was entitled to three appointments as a special state while other state are given one. I understand how laymen can be confused on the issue of law, what is even more painful is SANs with no integrity making spurious podcast and granting interviews to further mislead their listeners. |
UK police don't normally carry guns. Those that do are only called on special occassions. So the so-called investigation will turn up nothing. |
