Crime › Re: Nigerians Blame Banks For Negligence As Robbers Visit Homes With POS Machines by Xisnin(m): 11:31am On Apr 22, 2020 |
bigtt76: It would be a bit difficult because the POS does not initiate network connection before confirming your pin and so no way for the bank to know.
It is only after the pin has been confirmed that the POS makes a network call first to the POS service provider for transaction validation. They then post the request to their 'middleman' bank (acquirer bank) who now contacts the card scheme owners (Mastercard/Visa or Verve) to debit card owner. The card scheme operator then contacts your bank to pass on the debit. I don't know how POS transaction works but it will be a security nightmare for a POS to confirm pin without network authorization. I was thinking from the angle of general computer authorization security technologies which I believe was adapted to POS terminals. Imagine I collected a new card today and took it to an old POS stand. How would the machine "know" the correct pin without being told by my bank(network communication)? Perhaps, the process you describe applies to magnetic stripe cards which have been largely phased out in Nigeria? |

LegoxMetahuman: according to the post which i doubt you guys read
they dont transfer, they only use the pos to confirm your pin is correct, then take your atm card away and withdraw as much as they can before morning when bank will have time to block your card. It doesn't matter. The bank can still trace the POS used for pin confirmation. |

BlackSpanner: Welcome to the Nigerian corona virus premier league with so much inconsistencies.
How can Lagos with no single case on Monday suddenly have 59 on Tuesday. Does that mean no test was carried out on Monday.
The Benue index case has been running for about a month now.
Enugu said it discharged it's 2 cases and Akwa Ibom 3 cases last week but the NCDC league table says otherwise.
Kano has maintained it's grip on the top 4 position.
Last week the NCDC boss said all States will surely have this corona virus cases.
Great people, I need your thoughts on all these. No need to pretend. Just stick with the popular naive assumption: It is scam! |

apart from that watch how some self made inferior ass lickers will praise this move while if it was done in naija they will criticize it like there is no tomorrow. That means you haven't been paying attention. Forget Hollyhood's hype and the "testimonies" given by lucky immigrant, the US probably house the dumbest people on planet earth per capita. Their saving grace is that the dumb were relegated to the backbench since the founding of the country and the smart immigration policy of attracting talents from around the world. It should be noted that wrong/improper use, however, can INCREASE the risk of becoming infected. So it's improper users follow all the instructions. Improper use applies to doctors caring for Covid-19 patients and not the general populace. Cover your face from the nose down and you are good to go. |

amaniro: OK that too. But until then Africa will keep being regarded as "Third world". I was talking to somebody one day, I was asking him what will our politicians loose if they fix Nigeria? The same road we all drive on. The same electricity we use.. What will happen to them if they fix this damn country for our own benefit? The answer to the bold is probably a lot of money. Your submission presupposes that the average politician actually knows what they are doing aside sharing money, hiring thugs and buying voters. What many are doing now is window dressing and snapping pictures. We need a 30 years development masterplan and not some patchwork being currently executed. But the first step is to get rid of the unqualified politicians |

salford1: I believe there is a technology shift going on. Almost all European counties have set a date to ban petrol and diesel fired cars. Norway has a set date of 2025..
For vehicles, battery powered cars seems to be gaining rapid momentum as can be seen by Mercedes, ford, hyundai, VW etc all getting on board. I live in a city of 16,000 people and several charging stations have been installed. There is a technology shift but how far will it go? In reality, only rich European countries are interested. Some others of course tag along due to the EU's threat or largesse. For power stations in Europe, before 2020, they will all likely be on green energy. In North America, natural gas seems to be the alternative now pending when green energies eventually picks up.[/quote]The bold is a pipe dream and will be one for decades. Unless of course, green energy is redefined to include products from extractive industries. Moreover, retooling an entire infrastructure to green methods cannot be achieved quickly. Natural gas may be better but it is not really green energy. Very few power companies (maybe 1 or 2) in North America are still romancing the idea of nuclear, but this has not really being going down well with the public. Infact, several European countries are phasing out nuclear power. Lots of nuclear power plant decommissioning jobs in Europe. The bold is the main reason why crude oil will last for much longer. A fear-based policy usually doesn't turn out well in the long run. Dollar for dollar, no other energy source can match crude safe for nuclear ppwer. The so-called green energy is not yet profitable on industrial scale, most are surviving on government subsidies. This green hysteria is limited to western and part of southern Europe. The politicians are enjoying living in the bubble because of Economic stability. What will happen if there is a problem? Expect a reactionary shift in power and mindset if that happens. No one could predict Covid-19 one years ago, so you can never tell. I work for a power company outside the country and all our coal plants are getting shut by latest 2030. The replacement are the currently operating hydro, wind and geothermal. Natural gas plant and more wind farms are being built as I type this comment. I agree. But coal has been dying even before the current boost in electric cars. Natural gas is not really green energy. It seems the green advocates are given up before even starting as the propaganda cannot live up to reality. I expect that only new wind and solar plants will be built but it seems natural gas is becoming the real savior. Airline and plastic manufacturers might be the only people that would be relying on petrol or diesel, and who knows what fuel cells are being researched for airplanes too. The truth is that electric cars are not a new invention. They are more than a century old. Many people seem to confuse invention with the economy. Tesla as majestic as it looks is still being heavily subsidized by the government. Africans love to copy but not to the point of economic suicide. So, electric cars will not thrive here for obvious reasons. The same thing will apply to other countries whose economy depends on crude oil or are poor. Conveniently, these countries have the largest population share. Also, there will be more economic pressure on many countries in the near future if the green adoption continues. The populace is going to look for who to blame and the green politicians will be scapegoats. The US, for example, will suffer catastrophic economic and job losses if it tries to copy western Europe. I am waiting to see a politician promise to spend billions of dollars just to make many people jobless. At the end of the day, politics and economy Trumps ideals. |
Politics › Re: Is Racism Against Blacks Because The World Thinks Africa Is A Lost Continent? by Xisnin(m): 4:29pm On Apr 20, 2020 |
amaniro: Good post. But the profound solution to stop racism is developing Africa. If Africa becomes like china, I bet you they won't look down on us. Is because Africa keeps regressing into underdevelopment hence why the whites look Down on us as inferior. Africa needs to fix their continent and stay at home. Then at least, we'll be accorded some respect. Africa should develop for its own sake and not for external validation. Almost everyone who discusses the development in Africa always references respect which is irrelevant to most people. Self-esteem and confidence should always come from within. |
