shotster, I have one that if it doesn't beat yours, it at least ranks up there with it: http://unionnewsng.com/index.aspx Note the headline references 2007 I know of a few others that haven't been updated since march or april but wanted to stick with Union as it matched this day the closest |
smart, site looks cool as hell!! Way to go!!! I liked ths part particularly: Index of /web |
LOL, What I find interesting is that when I just visited the celestial forum site, one of the google ads said, "Christian Masturbation". No kidding! Gotta love it!! ![]() |
nwabunnia I think the guy pretty much has let us know that he prefers a one-on-one training. It might have been easy for you but everyone can't be you now, can they ![]() If the guy wanted to learn on his own he probably would have asked for resources. Rather, he said he wants a tutor and moreover, unlike some who would want it done for free, he is willing to pay. I for one am a person who learns better with one-on-one *human* contact. No offense to you but, I hate it when people say, "go to a wiki" or "read on your own" or "it is easy" cos again, it maybe for you but is sure isn't for me or in this case, designguru ![]() |
Well, no more responses so let me state how I took care of the problem: As I said, the form covered half the form fields. After trying everything, it hit me that I could take advantage of a CSS property via javascript: visibility: visible/hidden. Short digression: For those who don't know, visibility: visible/hidden and display: block do pretty much the same thing. The difference is that whereas the former preserves the space of "disappearing" elements, the latter removes it altogether, causing the remaining elements to "rise to the top" to take up the space. So I ran a javascript loop through the form elements and stopped the loop at the form element just below the botom of the flash movie. Then for each of those, I did "visibility: hidden". This was triggered when I did on onclick of the link that ushered in the flash movie. Something like this: for(i=0; i<=formfields.length;i++) {by the way, I also changed the text of the link from the original "click to open" to "click to close". then wen you click the "close", i have another onclick function that reverses the visibility of the form fields to "visible". That's how i did it. Though it was a year ago, if anyone, given my constraints at the time, has a better way, do share so I and others can use it on future projects. If you have any questions as well, post them here. Thanks |
@hanen sigh . . . na wa for u sef |
smartsoft, u funny o ![]() Layout to me is good. Here are my 2 cents (I use nothing but Firefox by the way): 1) *All* your links are "jumping". By that I mean, when I hover over any link, including navigation, the page moves. 2) No form validation: clicking submit, I get "thanks for submitting". NO errors thrown whatsoever 3) Rather than do this: <p class="small"><span class="small">a. Opportunitiesyou should do this: <ol>4) Consider adding margins to your light blue headers. In my opinion, the text inside them are hugging the background too tightly. 5) The photo gallery page is broken in firefox. Always test your code on at least FF and IE. 6) I visit FAQ and get 40 questions. First, I think thatz too many. Secondly, they are not clickable and I don't get to see any answers to those questions. 7) I think the header is cluttered with 2 logos (to me the gigantic "pinnacle" is a logo as it appears on all pages. In fact the gigantic "pinnacle" is so large that it took me at least 5 mins. before I discovered the other smaller to the top left). |
When u reply, there should be an "attach" field. Consider attaching, rather than inserting instead. |
Okay, I have read this thing again but I am still not getting it. It's like the poster just copied and pasted an article he/she read halfway through it or perhaps they intended posting it somewhere else but made the mistake of doing so here. I have even tilted my head to the right then to the left, e still no dey settle. I am still scratching my head. Perhaps someone inhaled an extra cubic foot of exhaust fumes on the way to work today? ![]() |
a ha! I knew I shd hv had breakfast this morning. I didnt catch the "learning" part. Sorry about. All I see is the header. Perhaps he should modify that. Once again, sorry about that. I just have this problem of not being able to bite my lip and sit back when I see crappy posts. |
you still hvnt convinced me wealth2al. You need to prove it here with a code snippet. At first it was HTML. Now it is HTML languages. Are you even aware that the L in HTML stands for Language? You surely can develop (I prefer this term to design but i digress) a site without java but you can't without HTML. Sure you can ignore the BODY, TITLE or even HEAD tags and the page will come up okay, not that I would advise it. But when it comes to layout, you will need HTML. So, though I know I am 10000% right, I stand corrected if you can prove us wrong with a code snippet. We await. |
might b nice for starters to paste what the rejected project was first. it might b it is still good but you had no substance in it. so post what you had before. that will help us know what you did wrong and how better to help. |

hanen, if you follow the link I pasted above, you will see why. The very form for collecting information for would-be students doesn't work. To be honest, I didn't even notice the "take" until after I saw the mysql error. take back what I said? in this case, NO. Sorry. If you want to teach (or take, or whatever) someone, at least practice what you preach. |
kemawilly, I wanted to say that too but i decided to hold back my fingers as I couldn't be as diplomatic as you are ![]() I put myself in the shoes of someone willing to help. I looked at the form. Then I started estimating how long it would take to do it. I came up with 2 options: 1) Just give him the validation for the form as is OR 2) Tidy up the form UI-wise, and add special validation for email, phone numbers, etc. Obviously #2 would be longer than #1 but either way, N5000 would not even be enough. I take pride in what I do because I put in my all. Why? Because it is not just about today. I want someone to come in a year from now and ask, "who did this?" and hopefully they are led to me. Also, I don't want a situation where some coder comes in after me and says, "yawatide's code sucks!" |
are you sure about that? https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-180046.0.html and don't you mean "teach" not "take"? |
I never have and never will. As we used to say about those who polluted the air in secondary school - only those who pollute the air are those who perceive the odor ![]() |
and why carrying the cross for them, i also can't remember any part of my post where i said i knew it allI wonder where I have heard this before. ![]() |
woah! It didn't require a lecture now ![]() Based on some of what you said above, I guess talktohenr wouldn't fall into the (paraphrasing) "go to your church/mosque and pick 100 people who rnt regular internet users". Sure, some people need to b inspired. You could have equally inspired them by providing a link (as I have done in the past on similar issues. In fact, once on here, I provided a link to a youtube video on zuckerberg ) to a site where they could read it for themselves. For all we know (not saying you fall into this category), you could be adding/subtracting information which could mislead the very person you are trying to convince. Thatz all.Sorry for any misunderstanding. I am not here to put sand in your garri. I am only suggesting a better way to market your product. |
uspry1, I don't quite understand where you are coming from but I have read the article. Though it makes sense, it didn't apply to my situation. More clarification: The form already existed as HTML on the site I was working on. The flash movie was sent over by a third party who had paid for advertising on the site. In essence, we were not about to rework our HTML form (responsible for 80% of our revenue at the time) for a flash movie that would last just for a few weeks. Also, this probably doesn't mean anything, but the site was in JSP. Even More Clarification: This isn't a recent problem. It is something I had to deal with in april 2007. The solution is already out there so I am not posting this seeking a solution. I am only posting to share a solution that I think was pretty slick for what I was trying to accomplish. I am trying to get us to think outside of the box. Again, good answer but not quite what I am looking for. I feel it's getting close though ![]() |
Nice answer and that is exactly what I did when I first encountered the problem. Guess what? I forget which but it worked in one browser but not the other so I had to go back to the chopping board. I am afraid I will have to strike down this answer. Good answer though. Again, it's the first thing I did though it didn't work cross-browser. To clarify: When the flash movie zooms into view (by means of a trigger which was clicking on a link on the page), it covers half the form, leaving the other half below it visible. This doesn't necessarily change the equation or drop any hints. Just an FYI. More answers please. This first one definitely got the ball rolling in the right direction. |
Speaking as a developer, I guess with all of you saying #3, it really reaffirms that I am a developer and not a designer. When I look at #3, I see a kid jumping over a logo. In other words, it looks tacky to me for a consultancy to have such a logo. Now, if they are serving kids, different story. If it's for a serious company, I think they deserve something solid. Then again, I am not a designer so what do I know? NOTE: This post isn't meant to break any glasses. I am just thinking out loud, albeit publicly ![]() |
Your first post did it all. I didn't need to hear (for the umpteenth time) the story of Zuckerberg and ppl like him. It's boring already and to my dismay (and maybe that of others), it appears, generally speaking, many nigerians (note: I am not referring to you specifically and am saying *generally speaking*) use those experiences to justify why they are doing something a certain way, without understanding the context and without being original in their own thinking. CONCLUSION: I understood you the first time. The other post was just fluff, IMHO. |
since she has decided to spit in the air and face it, so be itNow thatz just plain nasty. I take it you have done it before and know firsthand how it feels (and tastes) Remember: http://www.truthhurt.com/ ![]() |
Just state your selling points man. No need regurgitating the stories of facebook, google et al ![]() |
From a usability standpoint, marquees and blinks are not the best way to go about it. To be honest, such movements make me dizzy and interestingly, I just read an article that says such movements can trigger seizures in 5% of the US web surfing population, who happen to be epileptic). Why must you use a marquee? Just curious. If you want your labels to stand out, consider bolding them, using STRONG tags (although the CSS styling of "font-weight" is preferred). If you want to notify the user of a field he/she didn't complete, then you can consider a javascript popup alerting them to that effect in addition to backend valdation, where you could change the color of the labels to red so they know, with a message at the top of the page, where they went wrong. Finally, put a red asterisk by labels with required fields. Any other questions, let us know. Thanks. |
yeah Mustay, I must confess, I rarely meet a fight where I resist the urge to at least put in one blow - gbosa! I will endeavor to change for the benefit of this board. Thanks for the compliments by the way. And how does someone with 8,000+ posts say that he is learning from someone will far, far less? ![]() I did post a few hours ago a "Letz Learn Something" thread. See if you can answer it. I don't claim to hv all answers but I hv encountered the problem and I came up with a solution. I will give the others at least a day to say something before i jump in. Perhaps, my solution isn't as efficient but I won't know unless others comment. Thanks once again. |
he he kehers The fact of the matter is that you CAN NOT develop a web page without HTML. Think about it - as long as there are HTML tags and BODY tags and TITLE tags, etc, his assertion fails by contradiction. It's just a lame attempt to get you to click so that he can make money off of google ad impressions and/or hoping that you buy his product(s) You should be able to spot this from a mile away ![]() |
It's been a while. I figured I restart it in light of *some people* saying all I do is criticize. Actually, this is more in form of a question: I have a page. Page has a form with fields. I also have a flash movie that, based on certain actions, flies onto screen and over the form. Problem? Form fields bleed through the flash movie. Solution? I don't want the form fields to bleed through the flash movie. It doesn't look professional at all. This is where you come in. I await your responses. |
