guru, nice to see you too. |
robola: Again, speaking from a total newbie perspective, I encountered this permalink problem as well. In my case, I was creating the permalinks and clicking "view (to preview the page)" without actually updating (saving) the page. In my case, it made sense as I guess if you don't update the the page, the entry isn't recorded in the database, which means the page doesn't actually exist. Try this, if not already and let us know how it goes. otentic: good for you. Notepad is the king of fallbacks. Based on experience, I wouldn't suggest frontpage. I don't know Kompozer. As mentioned earlier, you can get free by asking someone to lend you their copy. As far as free from say, Adobe website, I seriously doubt that. |
otentic, of course he is pulling your legs ![]() |
Unless you can get with someone willing to loan you your CD, you might be SOL. As far as alternatives, I am glad you ask because DW isn't everything and a bag of chips. There are other alternatives, some of which may be free. For example: Notepad+, homesite, text pad to name a few. Of course when all else fails, you can always use what comes from on your (windows) laptop: notepad. In fact, if you are learning web design/dev newly, I would actually suggest you go with notepad first as it is bare bones and will force you to learn. I wouldn't too much rely on WYSIWYGs as you may be in a situation where you don't have one and you are stuck (like now). |
It's all relative bro. You can't see my face and so you don't know my state of mind. You can't take all posts the way you see it. That is why when I respond to a post, it is full of "probably", "most likely" or words to that effect. Perception they say is reality. Looking at your post on January 6, I am sure the unbiased poster would draw certain conclusions. |
otentnic: No, it is not. With DW, you are coding from scratch (design, logic and content). With WP, you are dealing with an app that separates design, logic and content) such that the lay person just has to deal with the content. . .The way it should be. Just like when you drive a car, you don't care about the inner working of the car to make it crank, likewise, all the average users needs to know is how to add content. Of course, you shouldn't use a bomb to fix the leak in your roof. WP (and other content management systems (CMS)) aren't efficient for all sites. For instance, if the site you want to work on will be modified at most once a month and the client would rather you make the changes (and of course is willing to pay for the maintenance), use an editor like DW. On the other hand, if you are dealing with a site like an online newspaper, with many authors and that will be updated daily, a CMS is the way to go. Of course, you could code such by hand but why do so when there are tons of open source apps out there? Make sense? Make I go baff ![]() |
Personally, I could care less if you had the best portfolio on earth, blessed by the pope himself at the holy see. If your attitude is negative, it's a turn off for me. This is where I am coming from. Again, everyone's s**t stinks. |
Haven't you posted this on another thread. Abi na strike dey cause you to see double? |
Ymodulus: 1) Still learning WP. First step is learning what it is about and how to set it up. I only used ogboju to customize my first one (basically, I modified the twentyeleven template ). Next step is to learn how to create my own themes so for now, sorry but I know nothing of wp-query.2) Saharareporters: Again I am new to WP, but I don't think it is WP-based. I do know for a fact though that the former version of Sahara was joomla, based on URLs on the site. |
Subsidized means "at a reduced rate". Free means no money at all. Which is it? |
My bad, though again, I insist, that you should only modify code that you understand. My point is that assuming it worked before you got it and added your own lines, it should have worked again. If it were me (and I assume you did this), I would have used the original code as is, and ensured that it worked, then added my own lines one at a time. This would have allowed me narrow down my error much quicker. If you aren't getting any errors, back out your changes, ensure the original code works. If it does, add your own code one at a time. I noticed your IF statement assumes a positive outcome. What if it doesn't? You need to add an ELSE statement for the negative outcome. Finally, unless I am missing something, your MAILTO is referencing $headers though I don't see it in your code. |
he he, you are probably getting hit by folks in India who will be sending you emails about SEO. You are also probably going to get hit by folks in Russia trying to hack into your account. |
What do you mean by, "it didnt seem to work"? What error(s) did you get? What does the screen look like? While you gather those answers, you might want to replace POST with REQUEST, for security reasons. Also, in the future, try reading up on what you want to do, then modify the example given, as opposed to going straight to modifying something you found. That way, you understand what the code is doing and can better troubleshoot in the event of problems. Good luck! |
I must confess that I just started learning WP for the first time in my life 3 weeks ago. For some reason, I never felt like learning it because I felt I would put in all this work and clients wouldn't appreciate it and pay me for it. It's pretty cool. In fact, cooler than Joomla. I don't know why I didn't learn it earlier. I just put up my first ever customized WP blog, 2 days ago. I am still learning it though and chances are that once I think I have figured it out, I will be using it primarily to develop sites. |
I am a born-again website developer. . . .Interesting! How do you define that? one who codes with security and efficiency in mind? ![]() |
you should also disable all your adsense and adverts for 7 days as well, so that my fast can go down very well. Now we are talking!Pigs will first grow wings and hell will first freeze before the above happens ![]() |
E resemble something wey you fit do now ![]() On a serious note, I am willing to go out on a limb and say that 99% of the photos on that home page aren't that of the actual women. Any wagers? ![]() |
who is a "core web-designer"? Furthermore, if you aren't: 1) Why didn't you disclose this upfront, rather than wait for a seemingly negative review? 2) Why do you want us to review something that you are implying could have been better? Aren't you basically trashing your own product? |
The combined result of indiscipline on the part of the developers and the web hosts. This shows right here that we are subject not only to physical attacks but cyber attacks as well. Cronyism - a crime against Nigerians. |
. . .and what do you hope to accomplish? The (govt) workers who are going on strike will most likely get their salaries paid upon return. You are in the private sector. How will you make ends meet? |
1) Get rid of background image in content sections as it makes it hard to read the text 2) Get rid of "check email" link in ur nav bar, unless you are saying all website visitors have an email address. Put it in the footer. 3) Get rid of animation on all pages except for home page - it is distracting. 4) Sitemap page: "Welcome - real insurance" is posted 2ce 5) Contact us page: a) error page is not consistent with layout of entire site b) "send mail" button is only 40% visible |
dhtml, There is expensive and then there is exorbitant. I think yours falls into the latter category, for services offered ![]() |
In as much as I salute the effort, I ask now, as I have asked for years, why we can't come up with anything original ourselves and have the rest of the world copy from us? What are the odds that if someone in the US didn't come up with "Occupy Wall Street" that we would have been using the same name today? |
geniusng, As commendable as your gesture might be, I think you should steer OP in the direction of actually learning to code it himself. 3rd party is good but what do you give up in terms of flexibility and control and perhaps the most important thing of all, adding to OP's skill set? |
To go bank, Na you been wan suffer head now, he he. |
Yep, capitalism at its best. For starters, if you are using a gen to enable you work at night, the fuel for that gen has doubled in price. Besides, your cost of living has just been slashed in half as everyone around you has increased their prices. Why shouldn't you? |
cueniche, here is what I meant: You said (which is commendable): Anyway, it is nice knowing that there is a closely knit community of Nigerian creatives around, Hola! After you said (not commendable): . . .I doubt if you lads have the clout to corroborate your blag.So it's like you eat your cake and want to have it too. It isn't about what you said and can't stand by. After all, if you couldn't stand by it, you wouldn't have written it. All I am saying (and you don't have to take it) is if you like the community, leave it at that. That's the bottom line. Don't mess up a good thing here. As for your abilities, don't blow your trumpet. Let your work (as it has, so far) speak for itself. Don't forget, your s**t stinks too. Happy new year. |
cueniche, Nice portfolio. Warning though: You don't s**t where you sleep ![]() |
Oh, come on man! There are others far better than I am, namely: dhtml, slyr0x and a boatload of others, too many to mention ![]() |
Hmm, I guess SM has changed cos the last time I used it (around 6 years or so ago), i had to dump it in favor of GA because the stats weren't as detailed as GA's and the stats weren't as "real time" either. I guess I will give it another shot. |
Though I have not used sitemeter, I will say, go with what works best for you. I personally would jump out and say google is best, by virtue of it being google but I also do understand that not all screwdrivers are star heads. By the same token, you can use a flat head screwdriver on a screw with a star head - You use what best meets the needs of the situation you are in at any given time. good luck! |
Come on man! Isn't a database in essence a flat file? ![]() The advantage of the database, among others, is that things would be more modular, easier to search and depending on how you go about your code, more secure. |
