hv u tried adbrite? |
Wetin concern bird (job construction company advert) with toothbrush (webmaster board)? |
Based on attachment, the header is 83KB, more or less. Considering you are in Nigeria, I would think about optimizing it more: reduce the height in half for one. That alone will save you some KBs. You will still convey the same message. Use text to describe the school (or whatever it is). That should do it. Good luck! |
To me, the issue isn't 10K or 100K, it is how much net profit you get from it. At 160:1, 10K is roughly $63. If I were to do something for you, even a website in 1 hr (not likely), that would mean I made $63 per hour. In this case, I wouldn't mind the 10K. However, if I am going to design something for you, make corrections you have, code the site and worse still hook it up to a database, then boiz will not be smiling now. 10K no go even reach d sweat wey I go sweat sake of say light no dey make I take on fan. |

I think there is one owned by our very own remoranger. search NL for remoranger and website directory and you are bound to find it |
Woman nko? 411 access requiredI guess you are still a newbie wen it comes to women. "That thing" refers to the "thing" that women have and use it to confuse men. get it now? ![]() |
Mehn, i will show you a site i did with 10k shortly - for a GF I did this one for 10k - www.lasumsa.org - i did frontend, backend and all that - it is a drupal siteAs they say, there are 2 things that will certainly bring down a man: money and "that thing" ![]() |
Again it depends on specs and requirements. Do you mind being more specific? I can not risk giving you a 10K quote for a potentially 100K website. . .and vice versa ![]() |
1) Isn't the yemlat guy here on NL? 2) I will make a N10K bet with anyone on here that the site was done for N10K ![]() |
^^ Is it possible that OP has subscribed to a forum or mailing list or twitter feed that provides him with this info? #justSaying Be that as it may, IMHO this bring up a bigger and perhaps more important question - why are there so many Nigerian sites in general subject to hacking? Is it the web host? This is why I would advocate for an office of the webmaster (at federal and state, and if possible, local levels as well) that would among others, unify all government websites and website infrastructure. This would among others ensure uniformity, security and consistency. Right now, it seems as if the right hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. We definitely need a robust online strategy, that's for sure. |
they do actually? Based on what? Documentation to support your claim please |
^^ No they don't. We are pretty much saying the same thing, albeit in different ways. Authority site = Relevant site. My general point being that google shouldn't favor any one site as far as organic search goes. All sites, within a given category, should be given the same treatment and not say, change its algorithm simply because someone says it has "falsehoods". |
depends on the features, who will be performing maintenance, etc |
a few days ago, it was "facebook has grown 100% in Nigeria". Now it is twitter. When will it be, "Nigeria has the highest employment rate in the world"? #justSaying |
Frosti: Wikipedia is also full of misinformation but that doesn't stop it from being #1 when you are doing research-type searches. Search engines rank pages based on relevance and not accuracy. Furthermore, search engines will rank websites that are research-oriented (as far as organic search goes) higher than commercial sites. Research even bears this out as most people will not click on the results in the sponsored section. Finally, google doesn't need to tweak its algorithm for w3schools - Google and Youtube (owned by google) are the #1 and #2 most used search engines (yes, youtube is a search engine, albeit for video) in the world. Also, I recently read somewhere that the #1 most searched word on yahoo.com is "google" - go figure! I also read that google owns at least 60% of the search market. If you find that a site isn't as good as you want, you have 3 choices: either stop visiting it, come up with you own that is more accurate, or visit another site that you think is more relevant. |
1) please define "modern browser" 2) Not all browsers will allow you to hid address bars for security reasons. |
Interesting observation: So I proceed to do what I do best during a review: check for proper front end validation of the contact form. I go to the form, enter a bad email address (d@d) and enter characters for numbers in phone number field and hit submit. I get the "thanks for contacting us" page. But here is where it gets interesting: To the right of tht "thank you" message, there is a "email is not valid" text. So now, I am wondering whether or not the email got sent. I mean, if the email is bad, why tell me "thank you" and at the same time tell me my email address isn't valid. Wonders shall never end, even in 2012 ![]() |
Na so google for find that link, close am too. You should know that NL ranks very high in the search engines ![]() |
1) Just like i tell ppl not to conclude on a bible passage, based on one chapter and verse, you are not to trust everything one source says. You should try multiple sources and "trust but verify" as Reagan would say. 2) As "bad" as it may be, it isn't all that bad, if at all. I often go there for a quick reference |
My bad. Didn't see the bolded portions initially. Besides, I should have taken a cue from the image that you attached, which is actually one image. Carry go, he he ![]() |
Another (perhaps better) way to skin the cat: Rather than import/use 2 images, you could save a few bytes by using a sprite and positioning it appropriately when you hover by using CSS's background-position property ![]() |
1) Home page: reduce the height of that header to what it is on this page: http://www.greenexchanger.greenmousetech.com/meet_the_ceo.html Remember, those with little monitors will most likely see just the header, which doesn't give enough encouragement to scroll down. Consequently, there is a height differential on this page: http://www.greenexchanger.greenmousetech.com/liberty_reserve.html - make the heights (globally) consistent) 2) Connect with us: Move that to the top of the page and use actual icons, to entice people to click on them 3) http://www.greenexchanger.greenmousetech.com/images/advert.jpg - image is 36KB. Can't you make it any smaller? Most of that stuff could be done with css/text. Remember, not all of naija has fast bandwidth and I assume they are your target audience 4) Testimonies are flying by extremely fast. I would imagine you want people to actually read them. Reading them might be the difference b/w losing business or earning $1m for the owner of the site. 5) Contact form: phone number and email fields are not validating properly 6) The following pages don't exist: terms and conditions & privacy 7) Code a) Maybe, again for bandwidth and page download reasons, link to the google jquery repository, as opposed to storing it on your site. That alone saves you at least 55KB, which you could use elsewhere b) Semantic code: You should only have 1 H1 per page. This is the main header. After that, use H2, H3, etc. Remember, you can always style your headers using CSS. Search engines will bless the site for using semantic code 8 ) Sign in form in header of home page doesn't appear to be working. Also, the "send" button in firefox is touching the "not a member" module. |
Naija! Consumer bar none. What does an increase of 100% do for us? Oh yeah, I know - it adds more value to a company whose owner's race could care less about us. This in turn means more dollars to facebook, at our expense. Where are the Nigerian (original) inventors? Where are the (original) entrepreneurs? Seriously, we need to get rid of our consumerist spirit |
Though I don't know much about html5, I do know that it has the ability to store website content such that it still functions while offline and then detects when the site is back online and "continues" from there. Are you sure this isn't what they are doing, as in employing this html5 feature? |
It won't be a bad idea to familiarize yourself with jQuery, a javascript library that has lots of license-free slideshows and photo galleries |
so i am thinking you do like google analytics where each client has an acct number. You pass this as part of your script call and check for that first. If the keys don't match, you immediately either tell them they are not authorized to view or show a blank page. Another option to either use solo or in conjunction with the above might be to obfuscate your code. Of course, everything is pretty much reverse engineerable but i doubt that many people will bother going that far. |
Seriously? now why did you do that?He he, I guess somebody won't be winning the 2012 Poster of the Year award for this board ![]() |
unfortunately you wont fins any help here.at least not publicly ![]() |
IMHO, a website that offers basic online services so that they don't have to stand in queues or deal with, "oga, ur file don loss o" |
Methinks that with a well-designed database, the search/retrieve would be the best way to go. It seems based on explanation that the storing in a file approach adds another (unnecessary) layer of processing, especially if the data set gets very large. Just my humble opinion. |
greenmouse, riddle me this please: I assume you have your favorite eating joint that you go to, at least once every 2 weeks. If this is so (and I know it is so, so don't deny ), each time you go to get your favorite dish, does the owner of the joint reduce the price of the food for you, on account of you being a return customer? If no, why are you applying the same concept to websites? Or are you saying that they are not on the same level, concept-wise?Folks, We really need to learn how to give our line of work the respect it deserves. Charity begins at home. If we don't love and respect what we do, who will? ![]() |
