DollyParton1: My bad... Not stereotyping dear. Just speaking from experience, like 95% of people I know who are not ijebu in any way but married to an Ijebu, have serious issues with their MIL.
By badass I meant, the two subgroups with very strong personalities. A lot of women have issues with their mother in laws it cuts across race, nationalities, tribe , ethnicity so it is not even an Ijebu problem So we have very strong personalities, that's quite interesting. DollyParton1: Lol... the bolded is indisputable. One thing ijebu is good at is making money at all cost. Heck, those folks dont joke with their money. Thats why people fall out with them mostly, Ijebus don't know family or friends when it comes to making money. . we make money but not at all costs, we wouldn't do just anything to make money it has to be legit Yeah we do not joke with our money its hard-earned and we are good managers (8 nobody ever says this part ) Like shymexx said its basically old money put into proper use . I also think the beef comes with the fact that Ijebus do things with class, they actually like to show off their wealth, their parties are always different Ojude oba is a testimony to that fact. My mums half sisters are always dressed to the teeth every year for the festival , just sheer display of opulence ( really dont support that though) the amount those people spend on clothes is alarming I just wonder atimes. The thoroughbred horses for the festival , the last time I went to Ijebu ode for that stuff should be 12 years now. i still replay the horse riding I viewed in my mind. I have peeps that never miss a year. Sirshymexx knows more about the ojude oba ish @ 2nd bolded statement hmm I just don't know where you guys get all this conspiracy theories from Dolly I was thinking you would say the one I heard sometime back like Ijebus are too fetish (juju things). If you marry their daughter her mum would be the one controlling the marriage . And I would always ask what is the basis of all these, I would agree with shymex that the hate folklore has been passed down from generations . . You would actually see parents say "do not have anything to do with an Ijebu person" hehehe. A friend of mine (from ondo) was linked with an Ijebu chick ( who he ended up liking so much) and the only problem to seal the deal was she is an Ijebu no other fault ooo. The guy had to confess to me personally that he had never had any problems with any of the Ijebus he had met. There are bad people amidst Ijebus I agree, there are also good people. The same for other tribes/ ethnic groups. |

DollyParton1: Please let me know when you find answers to the bolded part. It seems nobody likes Ijebu except the ijebus. lol.... Ekiti people does not like anyone that is not ekiti, but they got it extra for the ijebus and I think its because Ijebu and Ekiti are the two badass subgroups of the Yoruba tribe, hence why they don't see eye to eye. But have you met an a pure Ijebu mother in law whose daughter in law is not an Ijebu? Shiit it is scary. Badass ? None of my male cousins married Ijebu not even half ijebu, Their wives are from kwara, oyo and akwaibom. And yes their mother is a pure ijebu woman. No stereotypes dear. 3 of my female cousins married ijebu and its majorly because they are used to Ijebu ode they grww up there. others married from egba, ondo(ijaw speaking part). I have like 8 female cousins that married outside of the Ijebu kingdom. |

DollyParton1: Its a general belief that the ijebus are two-faced of all the Yoruba subgroups. Most of the association or interaction of an egba woman/man with an ijebu man/woman, does not go well like 80% of the time. Dolly parton Not two faced, but most times I wonder what the beef is with ijebus. Especially the Ondos/Ekiti, the hatred is something else. Not really someone that loves stereotypes but I have realized that if we can have a liberal mind we would see beyond those stereotypes. The day I mentioned i was Ijebu at a place I was working the comments I heared was so hilarious and they have built these in their minds.Let me not even talk about them although some were hurtful. |

SirShymexx: Lmao. You won't cross me if you continue to keep it real. I just don't like sheisty, fake, phony, shifty, and two-faced folks. Lol @Ijebuness - I don't even know what being "Ijebu" is like in the real sense of it, apart from my natural affinity for hustling and getting money. I just ride with Ijebu all the time cos I'm one - I might ask yetseyi to show me how to be a proper Ijebu dn, with pure Ijebuness.
The bolded is real Ijebuness Seriously though i do not think I have met any one who is as passionate about his ijebu heritage as you are. At time I wonder whats with shymex and the Ijebu dynasty, the passion alone shows you are a proper Ijebu don. SirShymexx: The craziness comes with the territory - that's a South London thing, and I'm a product of my environment and my experience. That's how we g-check disrespectful folks cos respect is a necessity, and majority of the folks on here don't know how to talk to people. And I gotta let 'em have it depending on my mood. SirShymexx: Lol. I just don't like discussing religion with religious folks with linear thought process (not you) cos to them, everything that isn't about their religion has to be the devil. Hence I said, "I don't want to get in trouble."
Err, I don't know I'll call "faith and hope" as being "real" since both are based on abstract things and in religion, they're dependent on the supernatural. They're like dreams. However, I don't have problems with folks who base their existence on both. I just have a problem with folks who exploit folks and peddle them as a "gift" and those who make both the basis for relations - and the thought process that whoever disagrees with them has to be of the devil.
The planet is too big for everyone to be one time...outlook will always vary. Hence even within Christianity, there are different denominations...with different approaches. Then you've got the tree where Christianity branched out from (Abrahamic religions) also divided into three: Christianity, Islam, and Judaism. And there were so many religions way before Christianity started out about 2000years ago...just as there are so many religions today. Most folks from the far east ideology (Japan, China, India etc.) aren't even Christians.
Religion was created for moral guidance, brother/nation(hood), and spirituality. But God dwells in us all...even without religion. I think Jesus answered that in Luke 17:20-21, when he was speaking to the Pharisees.
Luke 17:20-21:
20 Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; 21 nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”
^^^I believe that's self-explanatory, Sis.
Regardless, I admire the fact that you're religious since it works for you, but humanity is bigger than religion. And that's what I think folks (especially black people) need to be more cognizant of. Religion shouldn't define us - our heart should. Alright then |

She subtly insulted me indirectly and I was wondering what the problem was. Mind you she's also a christian but I guess she saw me as an 'extreme ' christian. For days I was shocked at the outburst. Said the short story above to make you aware that 'religious' people are also being judged unnecessarily, some make it a habit of always referring to what you claim to believe in even when the matter of discourse is quite far apart from your religious status. I hope you would re-visit your views stated in the first part of the 2nd paragraph in the nearest future. That aside I am always careful with the word 'religious' because I know one can be religious without even having a relationship with God which the 3 religions you listed are all about. |
Family › Re: Happy Valentine From Me To All by yetseyi(f): 5:30pm On Feb 16, 2015 |
SirShymexx: You're going to get me in trouble for this lol. Let me just say I don't have any problem whatsoever with religious folks...as long as it works for them, and they don't get judgemental based on that premise. I was raised in it, with a family still deeply rooted in it - save for my brother and I. And though, I seldom speak about it - I've got a perfect understanding of everything. Even Islam as well to an extent lol.
Life is all about growth. And as we grow mentally (especially those with high cognitive reasoning), with urge for a full understanding of everything happening around us. We tend to ask questions - and discern things for what they're. I basically just got to a stage where I understood religion for what it's for - moral guidance and spirituality to fill a vacuum that exist in our hearts. Then as I got older and became a black man, and a representation of who I'm and how the world sees me - I went deeper.
I looked at the black Churches vis-a-vis our communities. And we have got so many of them. However, rather than add value to these communities where their members are from, all they do exploit folks - in exchange for faith and hope, without giving anything back in return. We've heard this message of faith and hope for like 500 years now, how come nothing has changed? How about start giving back to these communities, and stop selling folks a dream? Even the traditional Churches have done a lot and they still do a lot. How come our own Churches aren't doing that? I went to Catholic and Anglican schools - the legacy of traditional Churches.
Then when you look at the image as well...you just have to ask questions cos whoever controls the image, controls the mind. And we've got images in all these religions that don't represent us - yet we question why we're the most effed up race of people. Folks just attach too much to religion and make it more complex than it's. You don't need religion to have a relationship with God, cos if you believe in the most high, he's omnipresent inside you. All you've to do is find a way that works for you, to speak to him.
OP, we're just keeping ya thread alive in the spirit of St. Valentine. You wont get into any trouble bro Well the message of faith and hope is still real bro. Anyway I understand that theres a lot of exploitation going on in the church but then there are still churches doing the right things. "You dont need religion to get to God " hmm It depends on how you define religion though. I guess i will still talk more on this if permitted |

However, whenever I go to Church for any activity - the old me always come out. Or whenever I'm at my parent's house. I know all the worship/praise songs, and whatever they do in there.
Lmao@ these folks worship "likes" and they always want people to fit into their vacuous and illogical thought process. I'm not that guy - I just wanna chat shiit and keep it moving. But if anyone says something I deem logical without ad hominems, then I can stress my brain and debate the person.
The sane and logical folks used to be in the politics, foreign, and culture sections (my old playgrounds) back in the day, but they all left.

And where I'm from, you gotta handle ya business like Flavour Flav's clock - esp. where there are no rules. I just handle my business and smack them with that George Foreman right hand, or Mayweather's left hook - that's the PeckNizzy way. I am quite interested in the 1st paragraph any particular reason why you left? Thats if you care to share. There are still some sane threads in family section and about 3 sane threads I know in religion section (all these threads are discussion threads anyway) I have also seen about 1or 2 in foreign. Then there are some handles that have earned my respect. okay then. I know some peeps can be so troublesome though. I hope the OP of this thread wont be vexed. |
Family › Re: Happy Valentine From Me To All by yetseyi(f): 6:07pm On Feb 15, 2015 |
SirShymexx: Lol. You did allude to a few things on there that gave you up. I'm from a proper devout Christian family, and just by observing people...I can't tell who they're without the need to ask them.
Bwahaha...I'm just crazy like that (Jk Jk Jk) - just messing about. Basically, I just keep it real, based on whatever energy I receive. And I've never been the type to let folks define me, nor try to fit in anywhere- especially in a virtual world where every handle on this platform, is based on whatever character they want. So, e-bullying isn't something I'll condone...since I know no one on here would be brave enough to chat shiit to my face lol. Coupled with the fact that I neither care about "likes" nor a fan-base...I just wanna mess around and keep it moving. That's how we get down in the belly of the beast, and it's a different civilisation and outlook to life.
Anyway, if you want to read anything cerebral from, whereby I would've to stress my brain a bit - you've to sieve through a lot. Or be on the look-out for any thread where I'm having a discourse with folks on that level. Most of the folks who populate this forum can barely read and comprehend the simplest things. So, being logical all the time is pointless...since whatever you say would go over their heads. The cerebral depth is shallow...and dumbing it down while smacking a few ar.ses is definitely a better approach. And with that, I do get banter out of it, and laugh hysterically.
Don't worry, whenever I see you online, I shall raise the bar. But when you're not there - it's time to get brolic and give 'em the Old Skool PeckNarm. Really, I didn't observe that, hmm proper Christian home now that's interesting. Loool at neither care about likes nor fan base. Now this third paragraph really got me laughing hard and this is the reason I hardly comment on some threads. There are very very sane threads and posters though where there's depth in the discourse, and you can get something beneficial but they are quite few. Just be yourself bro and take it easy on troublesome folks and dont go looking for trouble too |

Christianity Etc › Re: Are All Wordly Songs WrongTo Listen To? by yetseyi(f): 6:35am On Feb 15, 2015 |
You called them 'worldly 'for a reason. If its worldy then its not good as a christain.
I am someone that loves good quality music but then as a christain i need to filter what i hear.
Ask yourself these questions whenever you are listening to any of those songs.
1. Is it edifying 2. Is it glorifying God 3. Does it have any positive impact on your spiritual life, does it increase your faith. 4. How about the lyrics, is it what a child of God should listen to, is it in line with the word of God. 5. Does the music stir up your faith or does it increase the tendency to have lustful thoughts. 6. The videos of the musicals what do they depict?
Now note that even some of the so called christain music are not really christain, not even biblical at all. You even need to have a discerning spirit to know a true christain song.
The church has been infiltrated slowly with worldy music and if you are not careful you find out you are not praising God.
Most of those music depict sex, sex and sex, naked ladies, more sex and pollute your mind.
I know its almost impossible not to listen to those music by mistake because they are everywhere but condition your mind not to.
Have a good collection of Godly christain music. You can never go wrong with hymns and I also recommend Don moen's collections. (just felt I should add this part and you can almost never go wrong with hymns)
Also do not be tempted to filter out the one you think is good or bad out of the pool of songs. As long as it is worldly it is bad.
So EOOJ all worldly songs are bad. |
